  1. Generally, I'm pretty opposed to PvP if it can be comfortably avoided. I have fun killing players who are a threat, but I generally don't like killing someone out of vague distrust or because I want his stuff... Unless I'm playing Origins. I started playing yesterday with three friends, and we all spawned in Byelov (it's on Taviana). After killing a confirmed bandit, the server restarted and became day time. The AI helicopters started strafing the town and all hell broke loose as I was hit by the M240 and lost all my blood without dying. We managed to avoid most of the choppers but then realized there were several other players in the town. Long story short, I killed four players with my enfield and a grenade. Only two of them were unavoidable. Killed one for his truck and killed the other who had hidden away in a building. This is a big deviation from my standard gameplay. I'm not sure if it's the lack of supplies in Origins, especially early on, or just because it was a new environment and I was trying to control it, not having a firm grasp on what is relatively "safe" in Taviana. Still, it was a huge difference and it's a bit strange to me. Anyone else have similar experiences?

US 3533 Cheater Report / Ban List

I witnessed a player (a bandit with an AS50) combat log after I shot him with an enfield, but I don't have any evidence. The quit took place at roughly 12:40 AM on May 7, 2013. I know you can't do anything about this because A) I didn't record/screen capture and B) I don't even know his name, but is there some way to know who it was?

    DayZ performance/Arma question?

Most of my lag comes from my GPU being outdated and underpowered. Not sure about CPU usage. You can definitely play at low settings, though, fairly sure (that was an oxymoron).

    DayZ performance/Arma question?

I have comparable graphical settings, minus a stronger (quad core 2.93) CPU. I play on medium-high settings at 720p.
  7. Hi, first post here. I'm by no means a bambi (where did that name come from?); I've had the game since late February. Since then I've rented a private server and have been playing with friends where we just build bases and scavenge constantly. Very occasionally I go on public servers to get the tension of potential PvP. The thing is, my PvP experience is extremely low. I fought and lost a half-assed fight against a sniper on sniper hill by Elektro, and I shot a sniper sitting on a roof at NWA. I didn't learn much from either of these as the NWA guy was unaware of my presence, and I was stupidly tricked into thinking the sniper at Elektro was reloading (so I stood still to try to hit him with an AK at roughly 150m; not that hard but a bad idea against a guy with a DMR). So I'm really pretty inexperienced when it comes to PvP. I don't have friends who I consistently play with, so I mainly work on avoidance and only engaging when someone's a clear danger. What are some other important things do I need to know/take into consideration? I've done some reading, but I feel like my situation's a bit different from most players new to PvP (as I'm not new to the game itself or how things work). Thanks in advance.
  8. While I have fun being a loner, it's also extremely advantageous to be in a group of players with similar aims/interests. Obviously, walking up to players and asking if they want to come along and totally not shoot me in the back of the head is not the best way to find a group, and I don't have a group of (skilled and consistently playing) friends to play with me. So obviously I'm drawn to the Recruitment forum... but looking at them, I am afraid I'll get no response, or get a couple of noncommittals who I'll play with for a little while and then never play with again. So I guess, to assuage my fears, have the more experienced players among the DayZ forumgoers had any good success with the recruitment forum? Any tips for my recruitment thread, if I make one?

    New player questions

On the sound issue, if you use headphones when you play, don't mess with the plug. For me at least, plugging in/unplugging headphones after the game has started up makes it have no sound. Mess with the headphones before and after you play, not during. I'm not sure if this is what you're doing, but just in case...

Not a new player, but almost no PvP

See, I'm sort of in this boat, but I'd like to RP more. At the same time, death can happen so easily that I just look at things practically.

    Finally done with solo running

18, in LA, I'm ready to dedicate time to playing, not too quick to anger or anything, and can usually play at the same times as you can. My skype is mstrchief95 (don't judge, I made it when I was eleven) if you're interested.

I wish I could say I RP as hard as it sounds like you do, but my imagination's kind of gone when it comes to this. I'm not saying I don't respect the people who RP, or I laugh at them, but the part of my respect that keeps me from being a douche is different from yours, if only slightly: What I really respect is the time and care that goes into a life, and I don't like taking that away on sight. It's a practical point of view that an RPG player and an FPS player should be able to respect, though the latter obviously often doesn't.

    first kill on dayz

brb, wall of text story-time. So I joined a server that I’ve played on before, starting with some camo clothing, medical supplies, a revolver, and an SA-58P (my favorite non-rare rifle). I started running, heading towards a blank X on the server map. I was rewarded with a motorcycle, which I then tookthrough the countryside, first going to Stary Sobor for an M9, and then finding a hiding place for the cycle in the trees. Well, I kind of hit a tree in that search and now the motorcycle couldn’t go faster than 25 KM an hour, and it couldn’t climb any slopes. So I ditched the motorcycle, set up a tent I’d found, and with a clearer inventory, headed for the Northwest Airfield. As soon as I got there, there were signs of habitation. Stacks with only the most useless stuff left behind, a backpack - I was very cautious. I go to the first barracks and am immediately rewarded with an M107; first time at a barracks on a public server and I get the second-deadliest weapon in the game. I then headed to the firehouse, and suddenly heard sniper fire; a DMR. All but one of the zombies that had followed me in my haste to check the firehouse suddenly turned around and went right into it. I killed the zombie following me with a silenced round and immediately headed into the firehouse, ready for confrontation. I entered and saw a huge line of zombies walking up the stairs. I heard more rounds being fired and came to the conclusion that this poor bastard was cornered. But as time went on, and more and more zombies went up the steps, I realized he was firing intermittently. Something wasn’t right. After several minutes, I decided to walk out the back of the firehouse. I look up top and realized my mistake; the sniper was on top of the firehouse. Not the top floor, but the roof of its tower where zombies couldn’t go. He was just picking off zombies for fun. Now, at this point, I’m not sure what quite motivated me to decide to kill him. I could weakly excuse myself with the fact that his gun could make me pass out with a single hit anywhere on my body, but I know that’s weak. I could also say I wanted his weapon, as it bridged the gap between my SA-58 and the M107, but he wasn’t an imminent threat. In retrospect… I just wanted to kill a player. So I backed up a little more and finally made visual contact, seeing his head and backpack above the edge of the roof. I took aim, made sure my sight was zeroed, and time slowed down. I’m sure it was only a few seconds, but if felt like I was looking at him for a full minute before I pulled the trigger. At first, I thought he dove on the ground after I missed, but then I saw the blood spurting from the roof, and realized I’d made a headshot. After a few seconds, the blood stopped and I heard the sound of flies buzzing around his body, the console saying “Foust was killed”. I climb up the ladder and take a look at his body. He had roughly 10 DMR mags after I killed him (which doesn’t account for the several dozen rounds he’d fired prior to my shot), which made for at least 200 rounds of ammunition; this guy was just set up on that roof. I felt guilty, but still snatched his DMR and all the ammo I could hold for it. I booked it out of the airfield, got lost in the forest trying to find my camp for about an hour, and then finally got to my tent, packed it all my loot up, and left the server. I’m left with several emotions. I have satisfaction, as I’ve never killed anyone in DayZ before. I have remorse, as this guy was not a threat, and had likely worked for several hours to get that weapon and all the ammo for it. And I have a greedy happiness, knowing I now have two sniper rifles… but for what use?

??? Every server I've been on, the regen from eating is instantaneous.

Not a new player, but almost no PvP

I guess by those definitions, I'm an FPSRPG guy. I'm practical and have fun fighting, but I try to not be awful to people if I can avoid it. After playing on a few private servers (where I'm not at risk to lose my three awesome weapons and tent), I've sort of developed a system for PvP. In low priority areas, I either avoid people completely or try to talk first, unless I'm very sure they're going to try to kill me. In higher priority areas (barracks, helo crashes), it's kill on sight unless I absolutely know they won't come across me.

    Some questions !D:

    1. You can use mil-dots on a sniper, which takes some practice. You can also eyeball it. For a cheap way to do it, you can go on your map and shift-click on your target's location (if he's standing still) to make a nav-point on him, giving you how many meters away he is from you. If you're lucky, you can also find a rangefinder, which is essentially a pair of binoculars that gives you an exact location at whatever you're looking at. 2. If I'm understanding what you're asking, loot respawns when a loot spawn (an individual location where a pile of loot can spawn) is empty, and a certain amount of time has passed. I'm not sure on the exact time, or if there is, though. 3. Eating food gives you blood, but unless it's cooked meat, not very much. Canned food gives you 200 blood, pistachios/trail mix give you 100, raw meat gives you around the same (but don't eat it because you can get sick), and cooked meat ranges from 400 to 1200 blood, depending on the animal it comes from. 4. Elektro has a hill behind the power plant which is a common sniper spot. I don't like to go to Cherno, so I'm not much help there. 5. There are no tanks or heavy vehicles by default, unless you count the heavily armored (and unbelievably rare) MI-8 helicopter.

    SA DAYZ : Shopping Mall

Valid point, but you never know. They could have modernized cities as well. A lot is possible with the standalone.

Not a new player, but almost no PvP

Alternate points taken. I've played some Arma II custom missions with some DayZ players, and it definitely helped me with checking my surroundings in urban areas/assaulting defending a place with active defenders, though of course, like you said, we weren't as careful as we would be in DayZ, and we had weapons that were somewhat rare (though we tried to stay away from anything that wasn't in the game at all or extremely rare).

    SA DAYZ : Shopping Mall

While this is true, also consider they could be making the cities more expansive, and therefore have more reason to have a large mall. Nothing for sure, but still, it's not out of the realm of possibility.

    Gun twitching

This is half true. You hold breath if you HOLD the RMB. Clicking it doesn't do anything but aim down the sight. So to be extra steady, you click RMB and then click it in again and hold it to hold your breath. Just clicking RMB will make you aim down your sight. There's no need to change the controls.

Not a new player, but almost no PvP

Well, I got the sig working. Thanks, guys. Understood on the sneaking, and let me make clear that I'm not searching for PvP, just looking for tips for the occasions when it's probable. I've mainly kept away from the cities and such when I've got enough supplies and am just trying to find a safe place to put the M107 and DMR I found at NWA... Though sometimes I feel like going to the sniper hill by Elektro power station to dole out some preemptive justice on prospective bandits would be fun. Edit: Wasteland? Seen videos, seems pretty cool but pretty intense. Didn't think of it as a training tool, though. Good idea.

Well, it's a rotator, so that might be part of the problem... But the resolutions are both 600x120.
