Players need an Incentive to value their life above gear
97ADU Doug posted a topic in General Discussion
I have just read a very accurate thread right now that I believe is the number 1 problem with dayz at this present time: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/178830-players-are-more-attached-to-loot-then-keeping-character-alive/ The above thread is essentially pointing out that players value their gear above their characters life. I was just going to respond to the thread linked above, but decided that I could get this point across more effectively with my own thread. As someone pointed out, there is no reward for having a character alive for such a long time. As much as I don't really feel RPG elements belong in dayz, I still believe that dayz could benefit by giving players an incentive to keep their week old player alive, other than being able to keep their fully modded m4. To put this simply, in dayz's current state, if a player is held up in the bush, and said player is fully geared, you will find it futile to even attempt to force them to surrender, because getting robbed of all your gear, and getting shot in the head have the same consequences. It all ends up with you, and no gear. Thus why Dayz is such a death match at the moment. So there are 2 options here. 1 - Make player death more punishing, or 2 - Reward players for keeping their toon alive. I personally prefer the 2nd option, as I don't really see a way to punish players any more then perma death. However, I think that simple things such as adding a fitness system, a greater immune system to disease over time etc. Nothing to give that player a game breaking advantage over other newer players, but just enough to make it more convenient. Iv heard this is already implemented, but perhaps add a system where the player does not need as much food/drink as the days go by? Thoughts? -
Players need an Incentive to value their life above gear
97ADU Doug replied to 97ADU Doug's topic in General Discussion
Yes, so that way players will have an incentive to be conservative with their life, whilst NOT turning dayz into an RPG where veteran toons rule over all. -
The day that the modding community get the opportunity to ruin this game will be a sad day for me. Tonnes of vehicles, self blood bag, spawn with weapons etc. plz no.

Hello all, its been a while. Anyway, i thought that after a few months of playing other mods and other games, i'd jump back into vanilla dayz, had a look at the 1.8 patch notes and noticed alot of annoying issues fixed. Eating in vehicles, changing to pilot seat in the chopper etc. However, despite all these welcome changes, there is one addition which I believe has destroyed what made dayz so unique. The new military loot spawns. So I load into cherno, start moving through town and pick up an enfield. Usually i'd be pretty happy to find an enfeild with ammo in cherno on a decent pop server. I then decide to check the fire station. Found an M14 with 3 mags. I mean, what? An m14..... in cherno? A 7.62 cal rifle? A weapon that deals the highest damage per shot in the game? Equal to that of all snipers and some LMG's? In cherno? What? So i did some digging and looked at the dayz db. I then discovered that fire stations are now equivalent to barracks at NWAF. Great. So now there really is no reason to leave the coast. No reason to risk a trip to the hotspots on the map, I mean why bother when you can reach endgame without leaving cherno? So I played around a bit with the m14, going berserker etc. Every single person I came across was armed with high tier mill loot. No winnie's or enfields. Bambi's with starter backpacks with M4's. All varying in make, from a normal m4a1, to an A3 or SD. With the occasional DMR from a rooftop. why? Did people get sick of having to go north to get good gear? Were people whining on here about guns being too hard to find? Iv been out of the loop for a while, Im not QQing here, or screaming at the devs or anything. I just want someone to tell me why they've done this. Am i the only one here that thinks this has broken what dayz used to be?

Now I just need to wait for the servers I frequent to update. Preferably the ones with the least mods possible.

Dear Rocket and his team, no private hives, please.
97ADU Doug replied to Dekkymane's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Pretty much agree with this entire thread. Would just like to input however, private hives were excellent before people began modding them. I would very much like to see a way in which private hives exist in SA, but are however unable to be modded in any way. (Another thing i disliked about public hive was the server hopping/ghosting which to be fair is one thing private hives were able to solve to a certain extent). -
Fantastic :D

Well the hot fix is out and i must confess I haven't had a chance to inspect the new fire station loot system. Anyone want to report what its like now? post patch.

Will the release of the single player game signal the death of the modding community?
97ADU Doug replied to piffaroni's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
As salamander Ander said, dayz the mod has turned into a death match due to people modding the game. For example, servers with 2 million vehicles 24/7 day with extra barracks in every town etc. I hope SA will never be open to modding so we can never see what has happened to the mod happen to SA. If you like what the mod has become, then continue to play the mod. Please don't whine about the SA and how you have been: EDIT: I have no idea why the text above is highlighted in white.^^ If you want that experience play the mod, because thats not what Dayz is about. -
Each to their own.

Responsibility and shame: A intellectual observation of the hill camper
97ADU Doug replied to Cap'n (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You can't really be surprised that their is an increasingly high amount of hill snipers these days. Iv been playing dayz since april 2012. Iv done it all, and I can honestly say that the part I enjoy the most is exploring and the thrill of looting military hotspots for those juicy weapons. I like nothing more than setting out from cherno with my enfield/winnie, setting out for an adventure. But really, that aspect of the game is pointless today. Lets set aside the 1.8 update adding high tier mill grade weapons in fire stations (which hopefully will be fixed soon). Lets look instead at the servers people play on these days. Im sure as you scroll through dayz commander you will see a bunch of empty servers, then you come across the server with 20-40 people on it, if you took time to read the description this is what they all say: Dayz Chernarus 2 million+ vehicles and choppers+extra barracks in every town+24/7 day, spawn with makarov. Now does that sound like a survival experience to you? No. Because its not. Dayz has changed, the majority of the community enjoy these servers. These servers where there is no reason to leave the coast. All the gear can be found right there in cherno. So what do people do when they reach endgame in 5 minutes? Camp the nearest building/hill. A few months ago, these servers were around. However the classic survival vanilla servers still had people on them too. Such as AvA gaming and the balota buddies whitelist (those servers <3 in my heart forever haha). However the majority consisted of these modded 24/7 day extra barracks servers. Now, whenever i wanted to get some sniping practice, or just wanted a quick death match, id join these modded servers (such as BHR clans server). And yes id camp the hill/building with a DMR i found in the first 5 minutes. Because why the hell would I do anything else on a server like that? Clearly when the admins set 6 barracks per town, and made it day all the time with vehicles under every street lamp and so many choppers it was difficult to see any sky, they didn't expect people do venture up north, make a camp and have a night time barbie after a successful loot of nwaf. Why would you go to nwaf, when there's more loot in cherno? Im straying of point here, what Im trying to say, is the hill sniper is everyone. Because there are no classic servers left anymore. These as i liked to call them back in the day "feral" servers are all thats left. So, players like me just sit back and wait for the SA. Occasionally when there's nothing to do, ill jump onto one of these servers and have a death match in cherno/elektro, whether I'm sniping people from a hill, or cutting them down with my axe. Just to keep my skills sharp And thats why I camp the hill, not because i like seeing people rage, or I'm new and don't want to risk my gear, but because thats all there is to do now. I don't have to work for my gear, so I have no fear of losing it. The survival servers are gone. if you log onto a dayz server today with the intention of not death matching I'm afraid the sad truth is your kidding yourself. PS: if anyone can find me a complete vanilla server with a player base of at least 20, I would love you. TL;DR All servers are edited, 24/7 day, spawn with gun, 2 million vehicles and choppers 6 barracks per town= no classic dayz gameplay. Camping hill/death matching is the only thing left. -
I never claimed to know for certain what the AK was zeroed to as default, and yes, it is about preference, you can pick up ak's if you want to, but in terms of caliber accuracy and kick back, the m14 is superior, besides, you are yet to explain the part of your argument that has you hitting a player at 300m 7-8 times with an AK before they can hit you once with the 7.62. (EDIT: as the person above me has pointed out) I was trying to have a civil friendly discussion with you on here but after reading this in the radio chatter section where you made a post that says: "Is it wrong to hate every Dayz team memeber" I can see you really couldn't care less about this discussion, your either really very stupid, or a troll. Or both. Im just surprised to took a thread like that for me to realise. If you have nothing positive to add and you not going to do it in a mature way, don't post anything at all. Thank you.
-
Really AK's are zeroed to 300 by default? According to the arma 2 wiki, zeroing is set default to be either and/or between 200-300, are you sure the AK is 300? source please. The Kobra has an amazing sight yes, but there is a significantly higher chance of finding the normal rubbish AK variant. Assuming your correct and the AK is set to a default 300m, there is now way in hell, that an AK would hit "dead centre" at 300m. The fact that you can't even be bothered to respond to the latter parts of my previous post shows your either don't really care about this thread, or, you can't refute it. Regardless of which one of those explanations it is, you should probably stop posting on this thread if you going to deliberately take away from the discussion by posting immature statements such as "just leave" when someone disagrees with you in a friendly discussion. (and btw why should I leave? looking through previous pages just about everyone disagrees with you. You would be the only one left) TL;)DR (just for you) M14 > than AK even with cobra sight.

Double post, ignore.

Im sorry, but I disagree with you. Ak-74 from 300 meters away is absolutely no problem for some mediocre sniper with a DMR. Here are the reasons why. Reason number 1, bullet drop. AK-74 has no zeroing, therefore to hit a target at over 300 meters you need to aim above them, and because of the abysmal Ak sight, that means obscuring them from view as you aim above them. Making it very difficult to get a precise shot into them. Number 2, The Ak only deals 2700 damage at close range. I dont have the exact statistics with me, but at 300 meters id estimate that any shot that does hit them, will probably do the damage of that of a pistol, and assuming you could hit every shot, they would have plenty of time to move, thus making it even harder to get a shot on, it also gives them plenty of time to draw a nice bead on you and take the shot. At 300 meters DMR shot will knock out most of the time, and even if it doesn't, the follow up shot, will finish it anyway. 3rdly, AK 74 is inaccurate as hell, no matter how good you are, that is never going to change. Anyway moral of the story is, If i had a DMR and someone started shooting at me with an AK from 300 meteres or more, i would basically see it as nothing more than "im over here shoot me please". Same thing with the m14, more damage, less bullet drop, more stopping power at range than a primitive AK. A DMR only has to hit you once for the fight to be over. Your going to have to hit them at least 7-8 times. At 300 meters, a DMR would save pretty much anyone.
-
I dont mind that their adding more military spawns, its just that guns such as the m14 should never spawn so close to the coast as frequently as they do after this patch. Same deal with guns like the m4.
-
Dont worry I will be, but days and weeks, sounds a bit optimistic.
-
I didn't even mind when this game has 50 cal's. As long as people actually had to work for them, head up north find heli crashes or barracks etc. Weapons like m14's, M4's and mk mods should exists in dayz, they should however be earned, and not accessible to any bambi within 5 minutes of them spawning.

Ah i see you were referring to me with the arrogance remark, I apologize for my misinterpretation of you. I also apologize if I came across as arrogant, that was not the image i was looking to convey.
-
Im afraid I dont have a source atm to prove you wrong (EDIT: yes i do, see below), up until the last patch, fire-stations had a completely different loot table system, however, now after the latest 1.8 patch they have as many loot spawns as barracks. Also why the hell are you mentioning AU 46 weapons+? I Dont seem to remember mentioning AU46 weapons+ in my list of 3 servers? How do you mean arrogant? Are you saying you get arrogant and upset whenever anyone disagrees with you? Thats hardly a good reason to get upset my friend. Countless of the people in my clan have come across similar loot in fire stations as I have. EDIT: as taken from the patch notes * [NEW] - New Loot locations (Land_a_stationhouse, Land_HouseV2_04_interier, Land_Mil_Barracks_i, Land_SS_hangar)

I played on 3 AUS servers to confirm this change. ANZ1 DayzBonfire 1 AU46 survival (Balota buddies) I apologize for my hasty deduction.
-
The Chance to spawn them, yes they always did have the chance to spawn them. However, now, as iv said, they are basically barracks. So the chance of finding them is exponentially increased. Since then, iv found dozens of LMG's and m14's in fire stations. Along with up to atleast 3 m4's in each one. Do your research, you will find im right. but looking at the responces so far, it seems like my kind of dayz player is extinct.

Dayz was about exploring, surviving. Taking calculated risks by heading to hotspots. The thrill of trying to get in and out alive after managing to travel up there in the first place.setting up a base with vehicles and tents stuffed with precious loot found at all corners of the map. 20-30 min run is considered end game? hardly. Any experienced dayz player would tell you that 9 times out of ten going to places like stary would either get you killed, or get you some decent gear. Not all of it Yet your saying that its more risky to stay down south? What is there to lose down south? Beans? And I agree, it is harder to sruvive down south because, as iv said there is now as of 1.8, no reason to leave the coast. I played dayz to explore the huge map and survive it. Not to spend my entire time in cherno death matching. If i wanted to do that, i'd go play an arcade genre game.

Hello, as any of your who enjoy playing on the balota buddies origins server would know, their origins server is still running 1.7.1. The problem is that I have a group of friends who didn't play origins 1.7.1. So consequently they do not have that patch. As a result they can not play on this particular server. Now to the point. Does anyone have a link to download 1.7.1. And no, dayz commander removed the option to downgrade so don't bother giving that solution haha. Cheers.
