    1.8.1 thoughts?

    I'm glad it's hard. I'm glad the mod is trying to remain true to the survival aspect. I'm glad the mod did not go via the least shitty option, a la Olive Garden restaurant (quote from, "Shit my dad says"). Without it being hard it becomes another unimportant irrelevant watered down (place monster here) shooter. Keep refining the game mechanics and please avoid cream filled empty calories like deploy "little bird" with scrap metal, string and a tool box (yes I know you guys won't do that). :-)

    DayZ Mod 1.8.1

    After several days hosting 1.8.1 Public Vanilla unaltered: Lots of people dying. Most of them due to zombies. I think the reason why most of the people who complain about it's difficulty is due to the other mod of mod or the SA. Zombies in these are a non factor. Even with this mod I remember back in the day when you could firefight in a city get hit a few times and think nothing of it. Now it's very difficult to fight in the cities. Not impossible but something you need to think about. Which goes to my suggestion. Is there anyway to have zombies go after people hanging on top of roofs of buildings like the hospital? In many respects it's an oasis. In my mind someone foolish enough to sit up there should be stuck in a death trap if he/she bring aggro on themselves. Power lines make the hill camping a little more difficult. Is there anyway to add something in Electro's sniper hill like the what's already in the counter sniping hill? Apologies if my vernacular is confusing. Also I realize you guys are working on some server fps optimizations but for completeness on my feedback it's for me the number one concern. To close great update. It's brought back a lot of veterans from years past back to the mod. It's also brought players completely new to it. Best comments I've heard on side chat: "Why don't I spawn with a map"? "You always spawn with a map"? "Oh I can't punch the zombies"? "Halp"! "These zombies run like Kenyans"! Cheers, Geryon

    Okay then maybe we just have a list of servers connecting to the hive. At least we have a list of servers that connect to hive in one location. Call it collective promoting. Maybe we get a side effect of peer pressure compliance to the developer's vision (i.e. no modifications beyond anti-hack alternatives and silentspy changes).

    I would think we keep track of all servers that connects to the hive. I didn't realize you could alter the content? I do dislike the garbage and wrecks on the map, it can be troublesome for some clients and makes civilian cars limiting since they have to go cross country or risk wrecking on a garbage pile. Is that the sort of modifications people are doing? If not NVM about content change.
  5. Cheers Sellout. I took it down for a long time due to the lack of players. A lot of that had to do with a flood of new games coming out late last year. I'll always have a sweet spot for the mod and I'll keep it going as long as I have the dedicated box running. I regret turning it off the mod for several months. With the positive news on 1.8.1 coming out I have renewed hope. I know it will not likely be a high population server but it doesn't matter. It will remain to allow the curious, noobs or veterans who want some of that nostalgia to play in.
  6. Sorry for the troubles but our hosting provider had issues and US 434 was down for several days. It is up and running now. Your vehicles and bases should still all be there unless some dirty bandit or opportunistic thief took your stuff. :-) Cheers, Geryon

We want players to loot/sell/buy into to the traders. This will keep items rare and encourage players to look for materials instead of buying. This is a world still recovering and thus there are no Walmarts in this world. Environment is dangerous We all know zombies are not the primary threat in Dayz. To make the world more dangerous we’ve placed in very tough AI. We have four types. o Static mission AI o Dynamic mission AI o Dynamic roaming AI o Roaming Armored SUVs with 4 AI passengers These AI will flank, will use suppression as a tactic and are downright aggressive. Most encountered will have M2 machine guns for support and some carry RPG7s to counter players running them over. Be prepared to die more often than typical servers to the environment. If you want a challenge with the environment our server is for you. Encourage collaboration The static mission AI is very tough. We rotate the mission every so often to freshen things up. The purpose of this type of mission is to make it so tough you will need help from other survivors to complete. The reward for succeeding is really good loot. Remove or alleviate Epoch quirks Let’s face it Dayz Epoch can be a grind. We’ve included the following features to make the game go a little easier. The server isn’t hard core and we never intend it to be. Most people have a finite time to play and during that time we want people to have their heart pumping. We feel these help in making their time enjoyable. o Self-blood bag o Auto refuel/repair/reload o Deploy Bike o Domes o Extra Vehicles o No plot poles and no decay Server Performance We constantly via script cleanup locked vehicles with no keys and remove structures left over by inactive players. These are done via script. We are not a high population server but as the population grows we’ll throttle the AI in relation to the active player size so that performance remains high. PVP We encourage PVP because the world is dangerous. Be smart about where you base and travel. Precious items at the traders will only be replaced infrequently.   14. US 434 server will be closing by end of the month. Unless there is an upswing of players our resources we'll be moving over to other offerings. Server closes as of Feb 28th, 2014 @ midnight. If you need to move gear to another server take this time to do so. It's been a great run but like all good things it comes to an end. We are still hosting Dayz Epoch but at this time not vanilla dayzmod. Best of luck folks.

  17. It is a PVP server however most of the regulars will not go out of their way to kill new players who haven't established themselves. Unless it is in self defence so if you announce yourself as starting out they'll leave you alone until you've got gear, bases and stashes setup. Usually no more than 7 days. Come check us out. You'll figure out quickly who the regulars are. They are helpful to new players (not in gear) but simply familiarizing players to server rules and specific aspects of the servers. It's Epoch so we encourage building and have safety measures to prevent rampant griefing however we encourage PVP. Dying and setbacks due to player on player engagements are an important part of what makes Dayz so addictive. If you are cool with that come join us.     Bandits are NOT ruining DayZ

    First off combat in the mod and game are fun. It's what keeps me coming back to it month after month. However as a survival game and mod it's horribly deficient. The mod and and the standalone are too easy to survive. Thus you don't need to be a bandit to survive. Most people bandit or KOS simply because they've beaten the survival aspect of the game and there is simply nothing else to do. I've seen a lot of players come and go. Many I've chatted via TS, some I've played with. Almost to a fault every player learns to survive, cooperates and are considered friendly. Then once survival is easy they start hoarding and gathering vehicles. Once that gets old it's fly over Cherno and Electro and shoot anything that moves. Then it becomes who has the lower humanity. I would suggest server hopping is removed, have finite items in each sever and control introduction of perishables so that everything is scarce. The problem in the game is that no matter how rare an item is there still is an infinite amount of them. Vehicles in vanilla is a perfect example of rare finite items that are always in contention (worth stealing and worth fighting for). Stealing one is true banditry since you can't acquire one by loot spawning an area or server hopping. People will die trying to keep the vehicle since it is so valuable.
  20. There is US 434 and US 3533. Both of these servers have been around for a long time. I'm the admin of US 434 and it's on a dedicated box and we'll continue to host as long as Razor supports the mod with further updates. We also host a couple of Epoch servers but I understand if this isn't your bag. Different strokes for different folks. Cheers, Geryon
  21. We've added WickedAI. Much thanks to 'Markk311' for making this wonderful mod. We've also added an static AI strong hold at Devil's Castle which requires collaborative group of survivors to take. As always server is builder and noob friendly.
