  1. I prefer servers that have 15 to 20 people on. As large as the map is it seems very crowded with > 25 people. Just my opinion I've found that the Chenarus loot areas need balancing. Especially with the coastal spawning and suicides the overcrowding is very pronounced in choke points like Cherno and Electro. Another advantage of medium pop servers is that you have a fighting chance of keeping your investment in gear and vehicles. That being said I’ve played on US 3480. I highly recommend the experience and the challenge that you get being a fresh spawn on a full server. It’s very hostile and very dangerous but it’s a different kind of rush.

    Ah great that's really good to hear. It took me a while to get it working myself. Now you have to put in some nasty Sarge AI to make things interesting. :) Well maybe not.

    Ah cool at least everyone can connect (except you). That's a start. I think your assessment is correct your character instance in the database is corrupt. The game is trying to insert into the profile table incorrectly thinking your unique id and name is not there. Warning not tested and with limited knowledge: A possible correction would be to delete the current row representing you in the profile table. However there might be other tables that reference the row you are about to delete. If it does it won't allow you to delete it. If the database prevents it (foreign key constraint) then you will have to delete the row(s) from the other tables referencing the row in the profile table first. This will all likely remove your current character out of the database and what ever gear you had. Note make sure you only delete your guy and be very sure when you do it. Another less drastic option would be to change your name and log in. I doubt this will work but it won't be game busting. Cheers, Geryon

    Okay I'm going out on a limb here but is the server and your client versions matching? Maybe refresh both of them? I assume the Overwatch server is based off of the latest? Edit: Is this a fresh install? Meaning other then you there are no one else who have logged in. There is not history of other players and their gear?

    Do you have the semicolon after the line: #include "AH.sqf"? It should look like this: #include "AH.sqf"; Also put it at as the last line. If not try this at the last line. execVM "\z\addons\dayz_server\init\AH.sqf";

    Oh by the way if you repackaged the server file with the antihack script commented out are you able to authenticate? Maybe it's a corrupt pbo? Another obvious question is the script location and the path the same?

    Ah okay Beck. Your assessment on the client mission file is correct if you are running Overwatch. I'm not familiar with the antihack you are using and the Overwatch servers I've setup I haven't used any antihacks. I would raise a service ticket or if you haven't already ask on the developer's forum. By the way the official Overwatch servers use a version specifically implemented by Blur (well last time I checked). Sorry I can't be more help.

    Is it the free one from Blur or another one from opendayz? If it isn't a current one you might be exposed with the latest scripts. You also pay a price that your battleeye filters will be reduce. If you are willing to live with this it is a pretty effective antihack. My guess why you are getting authentication issues is the following: You need to comment out the line the following line in init.sqf in the client mission file. //#include "\z\addons\dayz_code\system\REsec.sqf" The anti remote execution script thinks everyone entering is attempting to do a remote execution. It's a compromise and you pay a price by losing resec.sqf. Protection wise I think it is even between what battleeye currently does. The advantage is that you essentially get an admin console and some other functionality. However I must caution that you have to be on top of your admins. Great powers comes great responsibilities. I would recommend that admins do not play on the server, it's simply too much temptation. Cheers, Geryon

    Idea for KoS

    They do but I also think the Chenarus map makes it easy for them too. Everyone spawns off the coast. Most people go to Cherno or Electro. Thus the map naturally creates high value areas for KOSing. If spawns were completely random over more of the map and areas for loot were distributed more equally we eliminate these high value KOS areas. Makes for the shits and giggles KOS more tedious. Eventually some of them lose interest because hanging on top of a hospital in Electro is not nearly as gratifying.

    I agree with this. I think they are too far apart as well. Also agree with your comment on AK74. It's too neutered. There is a reason why most typical combat engagements modern armies would choose an assault rifle over a turn of the century infantry rifle.
  13. Let’s assume reducing the KOS mentality is desired. If so I think the only way to achieve it is to make it so difficult to do. I would also think most of the serial killers could care less about skills. I don't think it would stop them from changing their ways. For some players killing is all they care about even without care to their own death. Their only purpose of the game is to shoot any breathing person. If we feel this behavior is not authentic then the behavior should be removed or not gratifying enough. · We could simply create safe zones (maybe not but I'm bringing it up) for fresh spawns · We could create more random spawns and not just on the coast and have a game mechanic to discourage spawn suicides. This will eliminate high value areas for douchery. Right now the gratification is too easy and quick (Just stay in Cherno or Electro or just run up and down the coast). If the likelihood of gratification is too hard most of these players will move on to something else. · Make the map larger. Again less possibility of the KOS douchery since gratification would be too hard to get. Not saying any of these would eliminate KOS douchery. I would think KOS from a pure immersion perspective (chance encounters, rivals, bandits, etc...) will remain but there would be less of the KOS douchery, thus just maybe getting a nice mix of danger and cooperation. By the way I still like the madness in the cities. My suggestion here does not mean I support reducing KOS. I'm simply providing another perspective of on how KOS might be reduced.

    Where do we stop at the realism? With out any high level medical attention even wounds that are not instant death would be fatal. Add the fact that psychology and physical fitness will be severely reduced fire fights would be extremely dangerous. Basically almost any serious injury would be fatal. It would also mean self-bandaging would be very difficult. What about the recovery time after being shot? You will be bed ridden for months. Do you have enough food to sleep in a tent for months? Let's see, you log in you can't move, you can only drink that coke through a straw. Continue this for months. How fun would that be? We can also go as far as to prevent people from running high level cross country with 4 Ural tires in their back pack with full webbing plus a DMR and 4 clips. They'll have to move at walking speed rolling one wheel at a time. It would be realistic but it would filter out a lot of the casual gamers. Well at least they got the morphine right. My wife is a nurse and she confirms it does mend broken legs. ;) Let's strive for the 'authentic' experience and game balance.
  16. In world where there are limited resources any other player immediately becomes your competitor or burden on you. Thus killing someone even unarmed becomes justified. This is because that person though not a threat at the moment is another strain on what you consider your resources (not necessarily true with the game mechanics but let's say if this was real). Also while breathing that person can become a threat in the future so the option to remove that person now is a very viable play. That's why on chance encounters I don't have a problem with players choosing the KOS option because it continues to setback that person's ability to prosper and survive. I'm not saying there won't be cooperation and communities but even on private servers people still tend to KOS outside of their group. It will always be us vs them. Thus I think the notion we should create game mechanics to discourage KOS is unrealistic. If our world became the shit I'm pretty confident it will be dog eat dog. Sure there will be rare altruistic moments but for most of us we won't be able to afford being nice and good. Everybody will be on the same side, their own. Can't remember the documentary I watch but it simulated what would happen if US had a pandemic. It predicted that it would cause mass anarchy and cities would be very dangerous. It would be ruled by sociopaths, psychotics and people who have become feral. Though not an entirely accurate representation hill campers and bandits running around the city shooting fresh spawns with a double barrel simulates the madness cities would be. I like the way it is. Almost everyone in dayz will not be your friend. They do not want you to be their equal. Thus cherish the moments when you do find a kindred spirit that you can bond with. Since IMO these will be rare moments in a real world of chaos.

    Lone wolf tips?

    Cautious aggression. Look to kill when you have the advantage. Retreat when you don't have or lose the advantage. If you don't have eyes on your opponent(s) you are at a distinct disadvantage when solo. When there are multiple opponents don't fire until you've established an easy way to kill them all quickly i.e. don't give up your position. When being shot at note the direction that it came from. If there are multiple shots swivel and look for muzzle smoke or flashes to identify location while moving. Never stay in Electro or Cherno unless you are a fresh spawn and the risk reward is positive or you are looking to get some action. Sneaking is generally a bad idea since it makes you an easier target compared to running. Typically only do it when you feel confident that your line of sight is blocked both vertically and horizontally. Swivel your head constantly and look to the tree lines to see if people are camping in known hot spots. Become a carnivore, carry lots of meat in your bag. :) I'm sure there is more.

    Servers to play on as starter

    Agree with Frytek, play on a public hive server and don't server hop. The longer you play on it the more likely other regulars will know you. You'll then establish a community connection. Some will be friendly and others your rivals. Public hive is the way to go to master the environment and harshness of Chernarus. If at one point it becomes easy I would then consider branching out into other mods of mods. As Frytek mentions the other mods are PVP based with most players being hostile.

    cheat/hack?

    Humans are very fragile. We often we forget that in our modern cushy lives. Dayz is simply reminding you that you can die in many innocuous ways. Well that's what I tell myself when I walk over the docks and it throws me in the air and kills me. Hey look at the bright side, in real life if I ran 10 km at the pace I do in Dayz I would throw up my lungs and heart and be dead. It's a fair trade-off.

  24. Watch a bit of it but lost interest when comments about how many viewers and "oh I love you guys". Bottom line celebrity games is a novelty. I would be more interested in watching a legitimate open tournament with a cash entry and mini-tournaments for free entries. The celebrities can enter but they can also enter other players by sponsoring them. That way they'll have a larger reach in their exposure. Maybe the early rounds a youtuber can edit it make condensed segments. As the player pool gets reduced and we reach the final rounds we can live stream. My interest would be in seeing fresh faces, hopefully high quality play and seeing who was the best and luckiest team at that tournament. It would also validate the celebrities skill levels if they go far or win. We could also see a new star being born. :)
