I found it silly as well, however IIRC it was an attempt to balance things after the increase in infected zeds and the rarity of anti-biotics. I always thought it would have been easier to add more anit-biotic spawn locations and or raise the frequency of their percentage, but who am I? And if you find that silly, you may not be a big fan of the SA...the whole shoes wearing out thing???

Epoch is definitely not DayZ, however I do find it very enjoyable. I like the crafting and base building...planning a strategy for days and weeks in advance. And perhaps some players do this in Vanilla, but I never did. My DayZ strategy was always fluid and changed with the hour The server I play on does have two god mode traders, however the others including two roaming trader caravans are feral! Our bases are anything but indestructible! Safes yes, building...oh no. We have another Epoch server on the tavi map that has no safe zones and the individual traders are spread about the map, with wandering ai that have been tweaked, they can be a challenge. Epoch is not for everyone...it's not for me all of the time, I have to go back to vanilla to get my stalk back, you can get lazy with easy weapon access and I find a few days of vanilla puts my sneaky right. It is a great role playing possibility, heroes are pitted against bandits, clan against clan and admin events that are highly entertaining, Like I said, not for everyone, but damn fun for a change or a while.

I'd like to see a guy dump 100 rounds from an M9 down a guys throat without having to reload!

I thought of this the other night on my drive home from work while I was checking out the moon over Lake Superior and wondered if any of the true time servers follow the actual moon phases??? Is it even possible? LOL or do they already do so and i haven't noticed?

Don't drop items while on a raised platform, second story room or on a roof...many things disappear this way. However even the ground isn't safe, like Bludy said, drink a soda and put your gear on the empty can.

I feel for you man as I'm in the same boat. I live out in the sticks waiting for broad band to reach me, and until then I play while tethered to my phone so you learn to play on what servers you can. It helps to play official serverrs, that way there is usually one where you can get a decent ping and have your gear follow you.

Have any of you become infected from water that you got from a pump or well? I haven't so far, but with the scarcity of anti-biotics lately I've become leery of any water source.

Another issue with multiple characters is that a player would be able to set up at all the choice sniper spots and choose which one to log into. he could be at Cherno, the hill above the power plant in Electro, an escape route outside Balota, stary or NWAF then watch or listen to side chat and move to where the action is. Not much different then a telleporting script/hack...No Bueno

Like Vicco said "DayZ does not like plans" I took a full month, stole or repaired six vehicles, looted like a maniac and filled them with weapons, ammo and provisions then scouted for the heli bandits that had been oppressing everyone on the server. I found their camp, recruited player for the raid and when I logged in to gather everyone and start the raid..all the vehicle were gone! Poof! I am confident that it was not OP because I had removed one wheel from each vehicle and stashed them in two separate tents...the tents and wheels were still there. the only admin is the server owner and in my opinion,a fair and honest guy, so I guessed glitch. Sour taste in my mouth...you bet. Did I stop playing, yes, for a few days and I've not spent much time on that server, however I attribute that to finding Musty. Bottom line...that's the breaks.

Mercules...I did the same thing only accidentally...On the East side of Elektro running from a horde that like you I should have never aggroed I ducked between houses and damn bear ran into a player looting a body! I didn't slow down and took off up the hill and watched as he attempted to win a running gun battle with the zeds. After they cleared I went down and finished his interrupted looting and then found his body about five minutes later having bled out on a catwalk in an industrial building. Not a great score but...I was alive.

There are hundreds if not thousands of servers with pistol+ gear load outs. I f you hover over the servers in DayZ Commander you will often get an idea of what sort of load out the server provides. Look for "custom load out" and almost all servers that say "max vehicles" "extra buildings" "24 hour day" will have some sort of beyond vanilla load out.
