The weapon analysis is greatly appreciated. Nicly detailed as well. As the ACOG is my prefered weapon, I had already known that its damage wasn't all that great at the longer ranges, but I didn't relise it was that demineshed. If rocket implements weapon reliability into SA, I think you will also find many people going to the AK's. As I was military and consistently while on the firing range you would have JAMs left and right of you. The weapon needs a certain amount of lubrication, to much and you get bolt overrides, that is where it tries to feed to rounds at once. That or you would get a round that would fail to load by not enough lubrication. Then the other common jam was after about a hundred rounds you would have so much carbon iin the bolt area from the gas system, that the weapon just wouldn't cycle. My Basic training weapon, jammed so royaly, that I was tought the emergency relase of the charging handle. I couldn't pull it back so i gave it to the drill seargeant, he couldn't pull it back, and so he than put it on the ground and then jumped on the charging handle to dislodge the bolt that was jamed forward. After this I learned how to keep the weapon preperly oiled. After a combat load, which is six 30 round mags, you have to field strip it and clean it, reoiling it. Oh, and what ever you do, don't put the wapon on the ground in a hurry, you get any sand in that bitch and you are going to be spending a few minutes cleaning it.

More sandbox Pvp then survival?
[email protected] replied to Evilsausage's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Lately the community has been more CoD orientated. I am now seeing posts where CoD Kiddies bash the DayZ players for wanting more survival/realisim in the game. I would get an adreniline rush when it was a new moon, I couldn't see shit, and I spent the first hour of the night looking for a building that even had a chem light in it to use. Then when found some, I would be hopeing it was a red one. Then popping that sucker off and getting another adreniline rush going. "I hope some mother fucker isn't across the street and decides to use the red glowing thing as target practice. That or thinking I just turned on a homing device for every one with NVGs in the area. -
I still think instanced bases is the worst thing you could do to Dayz.
[email protected] replied to scaramoosh's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I am all for a base system. Barricading a building sounds fun. Though in DayZ, buildings are rather limited, the sheer amount of players who come through a server, basicly makes having such a building pointless, every one and their uncle will find it with in five hours. I play DayZ for the survival aspect. Not the CoD style of load up, run through the buildng and shoot any thing that is moving. Even if this were real life, i would never set up in a house in a city. And if I did do something that stupid, I would definantly have a dog to warn me of something amiss while I was sleeping in my shelter. As it already is, having a tent is a liability. There are a few good places on the map where you have to be right up on the tent to find it. But any one who has played DayZ for a good minute knows where those locations are. And last I was aware of, hackers liked to use their map hack and TP to all the tents on the map. I want something I know I can work on as a project, With out logging out to only come back and find it raided. There are still a large number of players who work to make the internet bill. Not every one who plays games lives in their mothers basement while mommy pays the bills. That or have a few million sitting in the bank and live off the intrest. -
what map for my server!!! please help
[email protected] replied to jfarrar's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I havn't been able to play for the last month, but if the hacking is still an issue. What helped us is having "Active Admins" in our server name. Of course, at this point, you realy do need to have active admins. And Admins you can trust. The host we used, had a player tracking map. That would leave lines on the map on where you had been, and where you were currently. You could click on thier name and see what gear they had as well. Excelent tool for finding your TPers or those who "might" be using ESP. Down side is that horrible admins will abuse this, using it to "find" other players, normaly to shoot them. One of our admins had access to the database and changed his health score 24,000 instead of the defualt 12,000. He said it was to help against hostile Players. That was BS. Admins are not special. As to why I said Admins "should" be friendly is becuase of the drama that comes from other players when an admin some how seems to be able to find players consistetly, and they are a bandit admin. Had this same problem as well with another admin. -
I think the Standalone will be fantastic, no matter what the other threads say.

There isn't a whole bunch of information out on SA. Sure there is stuff but not as much as I would like. But from what I get from it, is that the game plans to cater to the more survivalist minded players. Findiing ways to stay fed, watered, and in good health. As it stands now, many players of DayZ are in it for the PvP aspect. Only surviving by killing those who had already done the work to actuly surevive. Looting thier bodies for beans and soda before capping some one else. Already you see post of players complaining that they wont be able to use thier favorate weapon. Which shows that PvP is on the mind. Don't get me wrong. One thing I love most about the game, is that I have to constantly look over my shoulder in fear of getting shot for my beans. I leave carebear servers quickly becuase with out the feeling of being shot at any moment takes away something compelliing about the game. I think many of the players who don't like the direction of the game are feeling they wont be able to run around with a bad ass weapon CoD style. I am excited that the game has implemented weapons that can be modified to better cator to the players playing style. My playing style focuses more around the Current M16 ACOG. That mid range combat zone. One thing I hope to see is that an Endurence "meter" is added. Only said meter becuase I can't think of a correct term. But something that takes the amount of weight you are carring in gear into considerations as you move around. Movement speed and the distance at which you can move is also effected. It would force you to decide real fast if the largest backpack in the game is worth actuly carying. 45 pounds for body armor, 10ish pounds for a weapon. 10ish pounds for about 300 rounds (10 mags). And then a ruck that can weigh up to 120 pounds. I'll tell you now. Fuck you, I aint doing it. Sure, picking the shit up and looking pretty is easy. Try running with that for a few miles. Better yet, get down on the ground after moviing that far and then trying to get back up with that kind of weight. Any ways, I am excited to see what is implemented into the game. And I am looking forward to the more survivale orientated game play. My game play style would be more of a woodland survivore. One who has a territory that I know real well. Shooting from a well hidden place from range and moving with as light as load as possible. Every try putting cans of beans into a back pack and seeing how heavy it gets? I suggest your try it. Just be careful you might rip the shoulder straps from the bag on picking it up. -
Pffft, the tower is an alright place to do some sniping from. Especialy when a chopper flys by. Also you can find a UAZ there as well. Nothing special at all. No good loot iether. Also around the base on the outside, you will find player tents. Normaly flled with good stuff. I think some one started some BS story to keep his tent safe.

what map for my server!!! please help
[email protected] replied to jfarrar's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Back when I admined a server, we bounced around looking for players. I enjoyed the Taviana map the most, though, the most popular map is Cherno. Most people don't like down loading maps, and many players who are not in the united states have to pay for every MB they use. So many don't like to download maps. Also, the server owner said it would take him two days to download a map and he lived in Britan. There is nothing wrong with having friendly admins, just avoid being a carebear server. Many server owners like to have a custom load out of a side arm, a rifle, and ammo to go with it, along with a larger back pack. Avoid this as many players are looking for the challeng in the first place. We had a custom load out our selves. Added road flares, we belived that the risk level of using them in the first place was high enough that spawning in with them wouldn't be a benifit of atuly having them. We then took the backpack away as well. This forced you to manage your priorities to actuly survive. Making even that starter backpack a tresure when you came upon it. We tried a number of scripts, one that I had a lot of fun with was the ability to use the V22, and the large helicopter to pick up vehicles and move them to other places. This was had a lot of issues and we eentualy had to pull it. It kept kicking players for teleporting, or spawining in a vehicle when ever they dropped it. Some times it worked with out any issues. The other script that many on the server liked was the script that even counted movment as being in combat. This prevented players from running into a city with a train of zombies and then logging out and logging back in to reset the zombies. Of course on our server, combat logging was a bannable offence. We even upped how many zombies would spawn per person, but this started to take our server to a more hard core community and we started to loose players. So we tried to keep things balanced while still trying to lean to making it tough at the same time. -

Any one with a hatchet or even a Lee Ienfield realy is not a bambi. Many players prefer the Lee for thier weapon of choice for hunting other players. I stopped being a hero, I no longer go out of my way to help people, and many players out thier bait you with. "Help me, I have a broken leg and can't see, I need blood. I am at (grid coords)" Only to show up and find out you have four bandits aiming at you from a safe locations and no guy at the grid location. It works, I fell for it a few times. So now, I just look at it as, "That guy is SOL, every bandit on the map is headed there, or its already a bait tactic. Going bandit was never my cup of tea, being a hero was. Though, as they say about those people who want to be a hero. "Those who try to be a hero end up dead." I look at this game as what would happen in real life if shit realy hit the fan. If I run into some one out there though, I will follow them and judge them up before aproaching. I like to play with others, going solo sucks after a while. But other times you find that one "kid", you all know them. They iether wont stop talking in direct when you are in the middle of a hot zone, or the one who sucks so bad, but keeps begging you for help in side chat after meeting them once. I avoid the coast as much as possible as the coast realy is just a killing field. Only going down here if I want to hook up with a friend, or I am looking for a challenge in surviving. -

All though I am a friendly. I play the game expecting to be shot. When I went out of my way to be a hero, I would end up getting shot in the back from fresh spawns as soon as they picked up a weapon. At that point, all my nice gear was thiers. So I stopped being a hero and just surviving. Also Youtube is full of videos of players who find a "friendly" as a bambi and then shoot them in the back the first chance they get. This whole getting shot thing is what I like. I like to know at any moment I screwed up some where and got complacent. Unfortinatly, most of my deaths were hacker related. Iether from them using ESP and TPing around. Also, many fresh spawns are those who just got killed in a gun fight. So you don't know if they were the bandit or the victom. And with a large number of players who have the Hero skin only to shoot you on site becuase of a false sence of security. It has happend to me on many occasions. "Oh Hi, nice to see another hero out there." BANG. "You fell for it idiot, now I'm going to give you a blood bag and then kill you." Is what one said to me as I laid on the ground knocked out. It is very hard to trust people, and fresh spawns are no exception. And if you are in electro or cherno as a fresh spawn or not, you are just asking to be killed. -
I used to admin a server for a good amount on "months". The owner of the server decided to go private hive with it. I was all for the plan. We were doing the Taviana Map at the time, and the members of the server stayed with us after we moved from public Cherno. During a 2 hour block, we were implementing a number of scripts into the Code. At the time of the this story, we had just activated the code to allow the V22's and the mi8s to lift cars. We were trying to get the code to work with the 130s as well but never could. Any ways, we had told people don't plan any thing to big during this time as we will be doing server resets. The server owner and I were in a seporate TS channel at the time, so we were discussing what changes we were trying to make and if they were working. As both his character and mine were at the airfield on the west island with a 130 and a HMMVE. I was watching the player location map on my second screen when the server owner had put a message up to all in red text saying the server would be shut down in a few minutes. At this point I informed the owner that one of our server locals had just jumped into a bi plane, according to the tracking map at least. So we both had agreed to wait to restart it once he landed. At this point, I typed up a message, which looked identical to the server restart message. The server host we were using would give you a 60 second warning before it actuly reset, when you pressed the reset button. So now, the message looked like it was a lagit message and that you had 60 seconds or you were SOL. At this point, the owner of the server and I switched channels so we could talk to the rest of the server players in the teamspeak. As soon as we did we heard. "sliped my mind they were still updating code, and I'm already air born over the ocean... ****" So during this "minute" of shut down window, he had punched the throttle to full and was doing the best he could to land it on a run way. When he did finaly get it on the ground, cussing the entire time on TS, he was like "YES I MADE IT, I AM STILL ALIVE... Sure its a broken leg as I jumped out while it was still moving fast on the ground but I'm still alive." At that point, I started playing the infamus Troll Music over TS. Every one, including the guy I just trolled busted out in laughter.

What is your favorite/best snipe (or kill in general)?
[email protected] replied to intensity's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I never was mutch of a Bandit. I prefered to survive or go hero. Though, months as a hero had tought me enough on how to take out other players. You learn realy fast that playing a hero, you should never go with your best gear on you. When you do that to help another player. Normaly they will say "Thanks for the help" Then shoot you for your sweet gear. I used to camp the NW air field with a M16 ACOG. Being as I wasn't about murdering players I went there to shoot at server hoppers. You know, those players who get all the cool loot from one server, then switch servers and loot the same place on the map on a fresh sever. The place I would sit at the airfield was 650 meters out from the Firestation and the tower was close enough to not need much of an adjustment. Using an ACOG, you had to aim even murther down the line from the indicated 600 meter mark. Normaly I just shot at players and watched them log out. Most didn't want a confrontation. Every once and a while I would get a player who wanted thier revenge. As I was using an ACOG, a head shot from 300 meters away is pretty easy. I only resorted to that if they were hunting me down. I didn't survive all the time, as Ghosting was a real issue. The guy would log out, I would think I was safe and wouldn't move from my spot, then they would log in behind me and shoot me. Any ways, my favorate sniper shot was with the ACOG from that same spot into the fire tower. Since I had done that for months I had leanred the weapons ranging and time for leading a target at that range for those particular buildings. I was sitting with another player one day and just BSing as I was watching for server hoppers. He had his Binos out and watching the area as well. He didn't have a sniper rifle and I had told him I could do some nice shots with a ACOG. Some time later, a server hopper had logged in at the top of the ACT, did his looting and then moved his way to the fire tower. Being as I was trying to show off with the ACOG, my professed favorate weapon, and my reason for not carring a second sniper rifle around in my bag. I wanted to show him something. The Target had moved up the three floors quickly and was being realy smart not to stay in one spot to long. At this point I figured the player had been doing this for a long time. So lined up my shot for the 2nd floor window, right at the stairs hald way mark. I watched the player drop from the 4th floor down the stairs to the 3rd floor, then from the 3rd floor down to the 2nd floor. He was wantiing out of the tower, he didn't even break his pace. I pulled the trigger timing it just as he started down the stairs. Half way down the stairs the players falls over and the kill message comes up. Head shot from 650 meters with a ACOG. The guy who watched me do it at that point spent the rest of the week making me seem better then I was to the rest of the server locals. -
Admin Trolling
[email protected] replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Riding in something when the server resets is a risky thing. When you log back in, you will be on the ground. This creats some exploits, but besides that. If the car hasn't moved and you log back in, you will be under the car when you log back in. Broken limbs, being knocked out and bleeding. Or if you are traveling the vehicle and be who knows where you out in the middle of no where. In this story, they guy was already 5k out at sea. If the server would have reset, he would have had to swing 5k, at 2 kmp. If you do the math, that is 2.5 hours of swimming. Death by thirst/hunger/freezing. When he was over land he still had a risk of being shut off and then logging in ontop of a building that has no way off of it when he went over one of the largest cities in the game. When a server reset happans, you never want to be in a vehicle at that time. Sure, the guy could have ejected, as soon as he got over land, but at that time, he was to worried about getting on the ground to think about ejecting. -
I was an admin for a server for a good amount of time. We had switched over to the taviana map and at the time there were a totale of three admins on. I have this thing where I would iether help people or hide in a corner and just watch the reconing map or try to prempt hackers. But with the three admins on, I would go into "Bandit Mode" Like this, the entire play style of server changed. People would stop being stupid and actuly think as they moved around the map. Another Admin buddy of mine wanted to come with me. The other one was pulling full duty as I shut down the other monitor and I could just play the game. Like this, we dropped Every thing we had on us in a tent we had and then ran out from there, picking stuff up as we went. This was fun as I geared up along the way. Being as I knew the locations of vehicles we avoided them and did not included them in out looting. We had killed a few players at this point when we had made our way to an airport and there was a C-130. Being as I am a pretty good pilot and can land then, my buddy said lets go find a city to hit. So we took off and flew around at about 225 kh, nearly stall speed till we saw zombies in a city. I did one pass and let him air drop out. At this point I flew out over the ocean and gunned it to max speed, attempted to line up with the castle and then go into town but missed it on the small circle I did. So I had to do another pass. This time I made it but ejected just over the wall of the castle and then let the place do its own thing with no pilot. I landed safely and the weapon I was using was a CZ550 as my friend and picked up 240. From the distance, I scoped out the city and determined that our target was in the grociery store. My friend was coming from the south and I was coming from the west. 800 meters later and 200 meters from the window into the store I couldn't see the target but I could see the zombies. With my friend in position he asked for me to ome around from the north side and shoot at the building. We were hoping to get him to spook and do something stupid. During this realinment, I closed to with in 50 meters of the north wall of the store. At this point My friend and I both here a gun shot. Not sure what the player was shooting at, I took it as an oppertunity to shoot the building to spook him. At this point I then returned to my previous positon of 200 meters out so I could see into the store from the windows. We waited for a bit and the guy never came out but the zombies were there. What the guy was doing was low cralwing just below what I could see. He had moved to the corner of the store closes to the windows but alone the back wall from the entrance. The Zombies started to glitch attack him through the wall. He Got up and I shot him. This entire time my friend and I were like this was one wierd scenerio. A minute later we found out what was realy going on. The Other admin was telling the guy our positions and what we were doing. The guy had gotten so scared, he had fired off a shot on accident, giving his location away. Most would think this was messed up, I would agree, but it was so funny that we couldn't hold any thing against the admin. And the rest of the TS server had a blast listening to the ordeal. The Guy had freaked out so badly he at the end just commited suicide and wanted to get it over with instead of being hunted like a rat trapped in a maze. Also as a afterthought. There were three people in the city I was circling. But bcuase I circled so many times, they were getting out of dodge. The plane it self, landed 1.8 km from where I had ejected out of it, and had missed one guy who was running for his life in the woods by only 30 meters. According to both the reconing map and his own telling of the story. Oh so close to an epic kill. A little bit of splash damamge would have done the trick!

Insertion by C130
[email protected] replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No, just jumped out, and figured the plane would hit on the other side of the city. In hopes that players would run away from that impact into my direction. That plan didn't work as I circled to many times. But, still, almost took some one out with the plane. Totaly unexpected. Becuase of how close the plane hit, he said he spent ten minutes low cralwing looking over his shoulder thinking I was much closer to him. Thinking I had ejected right before it hit the ground. -
Best gun for player hunting
[email protected] replied to Mr Yoloswag's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
M16 ACOG Sure it is stanag so there isn't a one shot kill option. Well, with the scope option you can consistently do head shots with it up to 300m. With sites that are accurate up to 600m. If you get to within closer ranges, you can easily use it for close range combat. People don't recognize it as a "bandit" gun so manly friendlys wont shoot first if they see you with it, unlike a dedicated sniper rifle. You can use NVGs with this weapon. -
These facilities are just about every where in the world. And yet you don't see them in game. This would be a treasure trove when it comes to loot. I mean think about what "you" have sitting in storage. You know, those places that have like a 100 or more metal doors with locks on them to keep you out. What is in yours? Hmmm, I am a combat vet so I have my military gear in there. (My weapons are a little bit closer than the mini storage place.) Camoflaged uniforms, both BDU and ACU. Real Tree Hunting camo. Waterproof Socks. Boots, boots and boots. Balsitics helmet. Tactical Goggles Warm weather gear Tent Hatchet Blackhawk Tactical Backpack with built in hydration system. CamelPack Hydration system. (can never have enough water) My personaly owned Combat armor with plates. (not all soldiers were lucky to deploy with armor when the war first kicked off.) Gas Mask MOPP Gear (Clothing you were with the gas mask) A microwave... (oh right, need useful stuff.) Camping stove (would need to find fuel for it) Sleeping bag. (tents have very thin walls, who would have thunk it?) Battories Just to name off a short list of "stuff" stashed in storage. If Zombie appocolyps did happen, I would be a little screwed at the moment as the stuff is far away. But... the good thing is the facility is way out there with no houses around so there wouldn't be a lot of zombies to worry about. Just getting there and fighting with the other bandits would be a little bit of a pain, if the stuff wasn't already gone. Speaking of stuff, That backpack I listed would be a nice backpack to see in the game. Almost looks like the brittish pack but with side pouches and a camelpack straw hanging out the top. The advantage of the system is the convience of all that water. Down side is, when the 3 liter bladder is full, it eats up a little bit of the storage space. Any ways, after seeing the score of loot listed above, I think a mini storage facility would be nice. Sure, not every one has cool stuff in each storage unit, but come on, there are a 100+ units, 1 might pay off, mine would.
-
Just about any thing, like you just said Goggalor. I know my contract said no fuel or food items. Fuel becuase it blows up when it gets hot, I live in AZ. And food becuase of the mice. But I still had MREs in mine... finaly finished them off on the last hunting trip. I even have a portable genrator in my storage. I don't see that being used in game but its just to show stuff is in those things. The main reason why I had the list was to cut people off on saying people don't store that kind of stuff in storage sheds. Well, some people do, I have that stuff there. People talk about raiding wallmart or Cabellas. Pffft not me, I'm hitting up a storage facility.
-
I was going the bolt cutter route. I wouldn't be hideing any thing in a storage unit if zombies were around. I would rather be looting the place. What I was also trying to imply, is that such a facility could be a source for military gear, with out needed to hit up a military base. Of course, you make the drop rates realy small. Most of thiese facilities have one way in and one way out. And most are not even enclosed. So you clould basicly make it a death trap with snipers on a hill, or just bandits camping the entrance.
-
Mini Storage is just another storage facility. The mini is just a facility with small 5 feet by 5 feet rooms with a door that closses infront of it. You put a lock on it and rent the space. I have a small one, but if it got hit up, I would be out a lot. http://www.cubesmart.com/storage/mini-storage/ Link Added as a quick google search with a picture of such a unit. The point of the topic is adding a storage facility to the game. The stuff I listed was only an example of stuff I have stashed in mine. Dosn't mean that stuff is what I want in the game. I wanted to give a teaser as to what oppertunities would wait for some one if they raided a place. Though bolt cutters might be a good idea for getting into it but I don't want to make it complicated.
