  1. Well, the plus side to having a california based map is that it would be real hard to find a gun there, as they are heavily regulated.
  2. We need a "Leatherman" in the game. Could easily explain a lot of this. Especially when it come to getting through a fence. I own two of these, who wouldn't? http://www.leatherman.com/product/Wave Tools: Needlenose Pliers Regular Pliers Wire Cutters Hard-wire Cutters 420HC Knife 420HC Serrated Knife Saw Spring-action Scissors Wood/Metal File Diamond-coated File Large Bit Driver (II) Small Bit Driver Medium Screwdriver Ruler (8 inch/19 cm) Bottle Opener Can Opener Wire Stripper Features: One-hand Operable Features Stainless Steel All Locking Features Leather or Nylon Sheath Black Oxide Version Available 25-year Warranty BIT KIT: Phillips #1-2 and Screwdriver 3/16", Phillips Eyeglass Screwdriver and Flat Tip Measurements: 4 in | 10 cm (Closed) 8.5 oz | 241 g (Weight) 2.9 in | 7.37 cm (Blade Length)
  3. There has been a few times where I have had shoot outs at the NEAF. A number of times both parties died. Every time this has happened, the other player kept killing them selves till they got the Sol spawn point. Talk about some BS. Server admin ended up banning him (private hive) as that was a cheap way of guaranteeing getting to your stuff before the other guy did.
  4. NWAF you will find your server hoppers at. It is where some of the best gear is and once you did your rounds, go hit up another low pop server. Cherno and Electro are known for the ghosts though, that is perhaps the dirtiest exploit I know. Hacking sucks, but I would rather be script killed than ghosted.
  5. Well... They fixed the tent dupeing... The hackers are still around. Every one still ownes a .50 cal. Private hives are where many people go now to get away from the hackers.
  6. Being stripped of every thing is even worse then spawning on the coast. You wake up and find even your bandages are gone. Nothing. You are already hungry and thirty or pretty close to blinking. And now you have nothing left to even raid with. Further more, you don't even know if your robbers are still watching you. Waiting to rob you again after you get a few items to live. I would be so screwed if that happend to me. I do support the idea.
  7. Upon a fresh spawn, I get off the coast. Even if it is one km away from it. There are three places I run to first, all depends on proximity. Castle Rog, Pusta, or Zelenogorsk. As posted from before. I'm looking for survival items. Compass, matches, map, knife, hatchet, toolbox, backpack, and food. A weapon is nice but isn't needed as I'm pretty good with a hatchet and I don't have to worry about advertiting to the rest of the area I'm there. I avoid towns that have zombies in them as I'm avoiding players. Yes, I know its meta gaming but the fact is you know what it means. Normaly I stick to foot, but if I find a bycicle, its on. Ninja transport for the win. Good on and off road speeds. Not the best, but no fuel is needed and its almost silent. Easy to hide, but easy to damage at the same time. At this point, I'm ready to make a trip to Stary and then off to NWAF. Scouting out the entire time. Hitting up the known sniper points first then going in for my looting. Once I do start my looting run, I'm doing this as quickly as possible. Generaly I am looking for an ACOG, but that isn't happening so it is what ever is better then what I am using now. Prefering to stick with the M4/M16/G36 as I can use SD rounds in them. After that it is time to go looking for heli crashes. Heli crashes are for those oh so coveted NVGs. If I find a .50 cal that also gets added to the bag as I want to take it out of cirulation by destroying it or for use later on. At this point I'm stashing stuff away in a tent some where. Tenst are iffy and you can't get attachd to the stuff in them. As now, I'm looking for other tents in the north or other known tent hotspots on the map. Once I am board of this I will iether get a Heli repaired, as I like flying and have spent so many hours doing it, that landing on a hospital is now childs play in a huey. If I'm not out getting shot at as I fly, I will then pick up a sniper rifle and watch over the coast, elctro, cherno. Watching for bandit skins or taking out the agressor in a fight that does happen. That or even taking out a few zombies that are agroed on a player. They normaly freak out as they think they are getting shot at. I don't stay long after shooting though as I don't want to be "thanked" for helping them.
  8. I would not agree with this as well. One aspect that I like about DayZ is that once you are dead, thats it. Time to start all over. Also I have seen what happens to people when there is a shiney badge for doing X, Y amount of times. "Hey man, want to go and do X?" "No thanks, I'm killing Y so I can get the you killed X, Y amount of times badge. It dosn't give a bonus but its another badge on my counter." All though this would creat a bunch of zombie farmers which would be good. You go into a town where a guy is popping away at zombies. So you avoid his vacinity while he takes all the agro or you "Help" him. :D
  9. In the last interview from March, Rocket said they wouldn't even review to see if SA was ready for alpha release till June. I'm expecting a october to December release date for the game.
  10. DayZ is still considerd Alpha. Nothing can be done to bring your character back. And deaths will happen like this often. Its a known issue that the community is trying to fix but... there is only so much that can be done as the game used as the base for the Mod was never desienged to work this way.
  11. I don't know, I havn't played since the begining of April due to my video card givig up the ghoast. But, I was pretty sure the servers were hard coaded so that you couldn't see players futher then 1000 meters away. Not to mention the fog and all that. I used to watch people with the AS50 as soon as they made the 1001 meter mark from me they vanished off the screan. I'm claiming hacks.
  12. I used to shoot at Server hoppers at the NWAF. Good times, good times. Didn't kill most of them as I was using a M16 ACOG from 650 meters away. Most normaly combat logged. If I saw you run in from the woods or something I didn't do any thing. Server hoppers in my book didn't count for my don't KOS pollicy.
  13. When I started playing, it was with a group of two other friends. We had tried it for the first time and we had no idea where the fuck we were or how to find each other. After using real life land navigation techniques, we were all teamed up. Of course I had died a few time and so had they. Ohhh so thats what the high crawl is used for. This will take for ever, I wounder what the range is that they can see me as just crouching... oh crap run... oh man how do you loose thies things? AWWWW. Then as a group you could bump into a group of other players and 9 time out of 10, they wouldn't shoot you. Instead asking you if you knew the area. Or, where did you find that weapon at? You don't know the name? Well how do you get there? Okay Cool thanks man. Now... its oh shit other player, run for it... or shoot them first before they see you.

    Blood type

I don't know... If you were an O type, you would have a hard time finding blood. Then I could see people hunting down O types becuase of the universal donation thing.
  15. This is more inteded for SA, but it could apply to the current mod as well. Why is it that weapon damage is tied to the weapon being used and not the actual ballistics of the round? If we look at http://www.dayzdb.co...apon-comparison we can see that the both the AKs and the M4/16 maintian the same damage. Even though they are using compeltly diffrent sized rounds. Or we see a FN FAL doing twice as much damage as an AK, even though they use the same size bullet in the chamber? You see posts of complaing of certain guns being more powerful then other like the makorov, which does take a mag to kill some, or the .45 being to powerful. Why do we not use the actual ballistics of the round. ArmaII is a simulator, I would think the rounds were set up with ballistics in mind, if not, I think weapon damamge can be ajusted manualy in the coding. If we look at a ballistcs calculator. http://gundata.org/b...tic-calculator/ <--- free and easy to use. Doing a comparison between a 5.56 (.223) and a 7.62 (.308) using federal Full Metal Jackets, which are the standerd military rounds. We will see a graph that looks like this. A = .223 Remington, American Eagle (Federal) FMJ, 62gr B = .308 Winchester (7.62mm NATO), American Eagle (Federal) Full Metal Jacket Boat-Tail, 150gr Range Drop (inch) Velocity (fps) Energy Time (miliseconds) A B A B A B A B 0 -1.4941 -1.4936 3019 2820 1255 2648 0 0 100 0.0006 0.0075 2713 2598 1013 2248 105 111 200 -3.2501 -3.6576 2427 2387 811 1897 222 232 300 -12.4360 -13.4456 2158 2185 641 1590 353 363 400 -29.1322 -30.5401 1907 1993 501 1323 501 507 500 -55.4506 -56.4146 1676 1812 387 1093 669 665 600 -94.2269 -92.9111 1468 1643 297 899 860 839 This is just Balistics alone. The bullet that hits the target. As you can see, the 7.62 has twice the energy at 100 yards, and then tapers off. At its lowest point of 600 yards. The 7.62 still maintains more energy to its target then the 5.56 at around 150 yards. Then lets talk about weapon reliability. The AKs known for being inacurate, but extreamly reliable. Cleaning? What? Pffft if you want to clean it, run a shoe lace down the barrel. The M4/16, crazy accurate but this thing is prone to Jamming, freaking often. You need a full blon cleaning kit for this. Rods, brushes, cloths, oil. And when you are taking that bolt asembly apart, doint loos those peices, ya those ones that are only a fourth of an inch long that hold the whole thiing together but need to be cleaned other wise they are the key reason for the jam. As I was military and while on the range, consistently you would have JAMs from the soldiers left and right of you . The weapon needs a certain amount of lubrication, to much and you get bolt overrides, that is where it tries to feed to rounds at once. That or you would get a round that would fail to load by not enough lubrication, mainly the carbon from the gas system that was blown back into the chamber would cause this. Then the other common jam was after about a hundred rounds you would have so much carbon iin the bolt area from the gas system, that the weapon just wouldn't cycle. My Basic training weapon (M16A2), jammed so royaly, that I was tought the emergency relase of the charging handle. I couldn't pull it back so i gave it to the drill seargeant, he couldn't pull it back, and so he than put it on the ground leaned up agasint a tree upright and then jumped on the charging handle to dislodge the bolt that was jamed forward. After this I learned how to keep the weapon preperly oiled. After a combat load, which is six 30 round mags, you have to field strip it and clean it, reoiling it. Oh, and what ever you do, don't put the wapon on the ground in a hurry, you get any sand in that bitch and you are going to be spending a few minutes cleaning the sand out and putting a fresh coat of oil on. If given a choice of a AK or a M4/16, I would go AK. As a urban setting, you are not dealing with range and you can get over the accuracy details, but the reliablity, and punch it gives is all there. The .223 is a good urban round as well, but the weapon, M4/16 is so not worth the head ack of a Jam in the middle of a fire fight. If I were to use a .223 weapon, I would probubly go with a HK 416. In DayZ, I use the M16 ACOG as that weapon fits my play style. 100 to 400 yards. The weapon never jams in game, it gives me the ability to get accurat head shots, and it does the exact same damage as an AK. Though in SA, if all thiese things were taken into effect, I would be looking for a M14. It dosn't hold as many rounds as an AK. But it still uses the same round. While also having the reliablity like an AK. But being accurate as all hell.
  16. Got off the ladder in the factory on the ground floor, broke my legs, passed out, blead to death.
  17. Name plates? I never put much thought into it. But... I could see it working for those being over characters whom your own character as met before and any one else with no name. A form of identification as currently you spend your time going. "Billy is that you? Billy wait don't shoot" fuck man that wasn't Billy but he looked just like Billy. Ken Beans caught what I was saying about bandits camping the "exit" waiting for that group to come out with all that loot. I lone wolf and team. All depends on what I feel like doing. The last thing I want to do is spend a week playing with a group so that we can get to know each others play styles, then raiding a uber tough place to only be ganked after coming back out with all that cool gear. Don't get me wrong, bandits add spice to the game. But I want to at least use my gear for a few days before loosing it. Not Five minutes. As for being a CoD kiddy, I wouldn't know. Never played the game. Seemed to much like a game for couch potatoe soldiers where walking to the refrigorator for a refill on the soda was enough of a work out.
  18. I had to vote no. I have seen to many war injuries. When you see some one being rolled past you in a wheel barrel holding his intestants in his hands with the rest of his inerds in the barrel around him screaming in pain over each bump the thing went over or the brains of a crew chief splatterd all over the deck from when a spinning rotor struck his head and his body is there on the ground with the bottom half of his skull this attached to his neck or even... never mind, I'm not getting into the stories. I don't want that kind of detail that it brings up those kinds of memories when I am playing a game for entertainment. I am all about realisim. Hunting animals. Needing certain stuff to get others things going. Using the stars at night to find your way. But the point where peoples entrails are hanging out, I could do with out.
  19. I would disagree silverbullet. By having a system where you needed to team up to get the best gear, only promotes the behavior of being a bandit. It is easier for me to shoot you in the back to take that gear that you worked for. Now I'm running around with your gear that you spent days getting and all I had to do was shoot you for it. Awesome reward for the risk of being a new character. As a player, it is nice to see how fast people are getting killed. So Player X died is fine. The Player X killed by Player Y message is more of a admin friendly tool. As an admin when you start seeing names all being killed by one player, you can focus in on them. The meta gaming from it though tells you real fast who not to trust.
  20. Private Hive is the way to go. When I used to admin a public hive server, there wasn't realy much you could do. And to ban a suspected hacker was basicly an impossibility. You need abosulute poof. Which was realy hard to do with the bypassers out there. When our server went private, admins then were able to do a better job of enforcing. You need to find a server though that has trust worthy admins as some out there will use thier admin tools to hunt you down for stealing thier stuff or if they are just board.
  21. I would be happy with something along thies lines. The Round gets a base damage, then the weapon being used effects it in some way from its own characteristics. I want to actuly need to make a choice on what I am using, and not becuase of its looks or its coolness factor. The curent system (using the 5.56 and the 7.62 russian) of both using the same damage scale just dosn't cut it. I can understand wanting to survive a hit from a bullet, but make an actule diffrence in what you are using. Rocket has already said that there will not be a large veriety of weapons when the game first comes out. Just many attachments. Which means you will build the weapon to fit your play style. But lets say the weapon you want to make, isn't actuly best for that job? Do you stick with your favorate weapon, or do you switch over to what actuly works best?
  22. As gews has put it, different bullets have different profiles. A .223 (5.56) is considered a tumbling round. This is that once it enters the body, it back end starts to flip over its nose. Energy does play a role though in the ability to bust through a bone and keep going, instead of being stopped in its tracks. At distance the diminished energy get to the point where even a good thick shirt will stop the bullet and leaving you with a good bruise. One down fall behind the Tumbling round is at range, it starts to tumble on its own just from the pressure of the atmosphere, but this long range shooting. Even if Ballistics isn't used, I would like damage tied to the bullet, and not the gun. The weapon has its own characteristics that are a determining factor as well to determine what weapon you prefer to use.
  23. The entire point I was trying to make was that the rounds should be the determing factor of the damage, not the weapon used. The weapon was to be the reliability, accuracy factor. All though many of the replies are pointing out the diffrences in the sizes of the 7.62 NATO round, they have latched onto the whole balistics point. The link I had given was so that people could play around with the diffrent loads out there. As to what dayz247 said about with proper maintnance. I would agree with him. Afer having such a horrible jam, I took much better care of my weapon. Once every two weeks I would goto the armory and re-oil it and clean off any rust it had. While deployed, I cleaned it every night to make sure there wasn't any dust in the reciever area. I never had a jam after that. But when every one else around you was having jams left and right. You quickly come to realise the weapon needs a lot of care.
  24. I am more of a Ranger type player. Using a m16 ACOG as my weapon of choice. Not realy packing a sniper rifle as I need the space in my bag. Becuase of this, I take up residence of a 9 squar KM area centerd around 06 06 on the map. Plenty of cities to hit. Desent places to hide when you are not in a field, and close to military spawns and helicpters.
  25. I can see robery already being something that will happen more often in the Stand Alone with a few changes they have already made. The first thing that comes to mind is that your character will get passive skills. Like the mechanic skill for example as rocket has already hinted to. Who knows you might get a faster longer running distance as you run more. Any ways, your character will have passive skills that is gained only with time. Many players will want to keep what percs they have gained from surviving for a long time. Bandits will still exsist, but a number of them will think about the percs they have gained and if it is worth loosing those skills.
