We need an emergency suicide button. My respawn button is disabled so I just cant play anymore. I will try logging in and out of servers as suggested but I just want to die, or get a teleport. I posted a bug report: https://dev-heaven.net/issues/73512 Edit: Managed to server hop until a zombie was close enough to aggro. Maybe there should be a please kill me thread stickied though.

Don't forget that in some cases, for example going unconscious while bleeding from loss of blood, and from dehydration etc. You would never wake up. I see the unconscious feature as a multiplayer feature - if you have friends around then it is not the same as death, but if you don't then it is and respawn is the solution. To me this is realistic and immersive and I support any feature that promotes cooperation. Having said that a little bit more UI feedback would be good. Oh and ed_rush: you can rip your shirt into rags and use them.
-
Anyone else noticed how if you click respawn while unconscious, and then it says "are you sure?" and you click 'no', you respawn?
-
There are a lot of merging and people going "Please search before you post" and similar. I would just like to point out that I searched for the word 'unconscious' and I got 0 results. The reason for that is that THE TITLE OF THIS TOPIC IS SPELLED WRONG AND DOESN'T SHOW UP ON A SEARCH. This is the official topic on this subject... Yes it is stickied, so I found it pretty quickly but if anyone really wants people to search for topics on the forum A MOD OR THE ORIGINAL POSTER HAS TO FIX THE NAME. Also I noticed that the topic has a tag with the correct spelling. Why do tags not appear in the search when you directly type them in?

SixLauncher seizing internet connection
dunkhan replied to mist4fun's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
So to clarify, a solution that doesn't involve clicking cancel every time: On the Six updater settings menu (grey cog tab top left) you have the following options that can fix this issue: 'Max concurrent server info connections' This one is the main one, some older/cheaper modems only handle a limited number of connections, mine for example can handle 64. This means that if six updater is set to it's default value (60) no other application can establish a connection through the modem. Setting this to 10 or 20 should solve the issue, but it will mean your server list updates really really slowly. 'Server list auto refresh' This one refreshes all the servers, if you set this to 60 you should get internet outages for a few minutes every hour, instead of every ten minutes as is the default. If neither of these works for you then you do not have the same problem as me. -
I know the fireplace can be a bit unreliable in this respect, but I have been dancing around this fire with meat in my inventory for ages and I can't get it to show up. Occasionally it will pop up on the menu for a millisecond while I am moving but never long enough to select. Does anyone have any tips on how to work around this ie. fire placement, specific angle/distance to stand. I am almost dead and I have raw meat and a fire... so frustrating.

I was just walking through the forest north west of Bor and I dropped dead. At least one other person in the server in the server also dropped dead in the same circumstances at the same moment (see screenshot). I do not have a hackers name so I don't know if I can provide enough information to catch him/her. Server: DE 3359 Time: 17:05 gmt Date: 27/01/13 I was well armed and equipped and had just pulled myself out of being almost dead by finding a hatchet so I could cook some meat. My character has been alive for over six months (real time obviously not in game) and I am rather annoyed. Screenshot:

Any chance of a character roll back?
dunkhan replied to dunkhan's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Didn't think so. Is this information at least enough to investigate? Secondly, is it true what people say about official hive being full of hackers and private being the only way to avoid them? -
Thanks for asking the neccesary questions, but it was none of those things. I wandered for a while trying different spots and was eventually able to cook my meat. Having the fire on as level ground as possible was probably a factor. Also the cook option never showed when the context menu was open, instead I had to mouse over the fire until it simply appeared on my cursor. When this happened I could open the context menu and it was there too. The problem was earlier I was circling the fire with the context menu open so I never got it at all. Anyway it doesn't matter now as I managed to cook my meat, ate it all and then dropped dead 30 seconds later for no reason. Got to love those hackers. I hadn't died in many months...

I am playing on the official hive now. I didn't choose the private hive I am playing with a group that plays there. Yes it sucks, next time they all die at the same time I will suggest a change but I think they know the admins or something. Anyway the problem I am currently having is on official.
-
On a private hive server earlier today the fuel can was also glitching. It would fail to pick up the can and then after 10 attempts it would try and pick up 10 cans at once. In one case it managed to pick up all 10 into 6 inventory slots, meaning when i unloaded them into the car I was able to put 10 cans in the boot out of only two showing in my inventory. I didn't think this was a related issue however as the server appeared to be running outdated code and there were other glitches as well, I assumed caused by server lag. This was repeatable however and didn't happen to anyone else that i know of.

The ONLY Realistic Way to Prevent Deathmatching: Make DayZ a Living Hell
dunkhan replied to Time Glitch's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I already posted a list of suggestions for making this game harder with exactly this in mind. You can search my posts for the full description but the main things were to make it harder inland where the good weapons spawn, and leave it relatively easy on the coast where the players spawn. This means casual players can still handle. Also lowering the level of loot that spawns in deer stands would be good. The airfield and old cathedral should be swarming with so many z's that you need a team of well armed guys and a vehicle to even hope to loot there. Currently I can spawn on the beach with nothing and be back in cherno/elektro with an assault rifle inside two hours for some pvp action. Also there is really nothing else to do when you have good gear. I am a survivalist/rp player in most games like this and love to cooperate, but in days sitting in the forest with a backpack full of cow meat staring at a tree while holding a dmr and a hand grenade is not survivalism, it is a desktop background. I might as well play something else as survival is no challenge at all. -
Date/Time:1 hour before post date/time (around midnight UTC, monday 28th may) What happened: Bugged clothing item stuck in backpack, moving it causes crash Where you were: In the supermarket in zelenogorsk What you were doing: Scavenging with a friend *Current installed version: 1.6.0.1 *Server(s) you were on: dallas 23 *Timeline of events before/after error: We looted the supermarket about an hour earlier, and went off to scavenge elsewhere. We then realised that we should have taken all the makarov ammo we had left behind so we went back. I found a camo clothing that was not there the first time we were there. I already had one so I told my friend to grab it. He couldn't see it on the ground at all. So I picked it up for him and put it in his pack. Now he has it in his pack but if he tries to move it out of his pack he crashes. This situation persisted over restarting the client and logging back in. I was unable to see it in his bag after he logged back in. Unable to test repeatability or hypothesise likely causes/solutions. It is likely that the issue was a bug in the code that happened server side, and resulted in some kind of save corruption. I guess my speculation isn't helping here. The affected player is named 'Rappy' and is likely the only player using that name. I do not know his player ID but I could probably get it tomorrow if it is needed.

I originally thought that coloured dots on the player skin was the best way' date=' but given that what is being discussed here is not the standard name tag system built in to arma, there doesn't seem to be any reason it can't just be made to only work when you have direct line of sight, and a distance limit goes without saying. The devs will have to work out wether modifiying a player texture locally or displaying floating text is more technically difficult to implement but I have no fear that rocket will put any form of this feature in the game that would disturb stealth. For me it is absolute priority number one. I don't know how much you have tried extended interaction with strangers in this game but this would change it from stupid and pointless to merely difficult and stressful. Also it may be worth considering whether we want identification information to be deleted when you die. I am in two minds about this but I believe it would be more in line with the general philosophy of the game if it did.
-
If someone is shot within 10 seconds of bleeding to death, the shooter should get the kill. That is all.
-
I was not aware of that. Still I assume they are planned to be, for the leaderboard, so the suggestion will be relevant. I also wanted to see if the guy I shot was a bandit or not, I would have apologised if he wasn't. I guess sitting on a rooftop in chernogorsk with a scoped weapon is a pretty clear indication of banditry, but I was doing the same thing so you can't be sure.

Your point is valid pocket, but I searched two hospitals top to bottom before I came to the forum searching for this thread, i also searched supermarkets, apartments and various other buildings. It is not exactly intuitive when you have sifted through 40 or 50 doses each of morphine, vicodin, adrenaline, and miracle blood that doesn't need refrigeration and works for all blood types to think 'hey well maybe only one in 5 hospitals carry antibiotics'. Also it is not the flu, as antibiotics don't work on the flu. It must be some kind of bacterial pneumonia or something similar.

I have experimented with actually doing this in game and the following points are relevant in my opinion: It is not about zombie spawning. Unless zombies become a much larger threat in the future having to fight them off in a player guarded settlement is not a big deal. Some concept of them spawning on the outskirts would be nice but the whole zombie spawning thing is not all that important. Infrastructure building would enable this in a nice sandboxy way, as suggested above. Being able to repair and transport generators and attache lights to them for example. Fences are already in but the don't stop z's. Tents and vehicles already fullfill many of the storage and transport requirements so not a lot of major changes needed. Any suggestion that involves extensive scripting, specific locations, npcs or similar is misguided. There are major obstacles to cooperation that must be overcome first. I have listed them elsewhere but basically the main ones are server stability, character recognition and communication. Fixes are in the works for some of these and I believe the devs are aware that these are issues. This should be kept small so it doesn't dominate gameplay. We don't want a situation where every town is owned by some group and the whole game is about politics and alliances. That would also be a great game but it is rebuilding society after an apocalypse not apocalypse survival. A system like this could work but it would have to require huge amounts of time, effort and manpower to get going, and it would have to be able to fall apart very easily. Such settlements should be very rare.

Can someone explain to me why this thread has 5 pages of "great idea man" and when I suggested this a few days ago I got one single reply that said 'I dont like it' without specifying why. Sigh, guess I just suck at writing threads that people agree with. This will make the game work, and failure to implement something like this will prevent it ever working. Recognition is the foundation of all social interaction.

I want to play as an old man, an ugly one if possible. I am tired of the standard ruggedly handsome early 30's blond caucasian male. Especially in so called role playing games. I want to be a fat pimply computer nerd, or a disgusting hag cat lady. Yeah sorry I digress, arma is an fps and doesn't have character customisation. Still big thumbs up to females being represented as something other than prostitutes.

Thank you for your prompt response and fix. Six updater is a great program and we are all very appreciative of your work. -
Frame rate taking a nosedive today
dunkhan replied to AstroZombie's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Quick question, are you using six updater? The newest version seems to have a memory leak. -
Lost several hours of gameplay?
dunkhan replied to concerned mom's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Ok I just lost everything I have, the server never saved me. It was a US server with the name roleplay in the title. I spawned in kamenka, and went up the coast collecting survival supplies. Once I had what I needed I headed inland and eventually made it all the way to the nw airfield. Once there I decided I needed to be on a lower ping server (I live in europe) so I quit and joined one. The whole process took me several hours. When I logged in to the european server I was at kamenka again with a makarov in my hand. My guess is that the server I was on was not an official one and was not connected to the database. This really pisses me off, they should at least mark it as such or write something in the motd. Edit: Actually I think it rolled me back even further than I first thought. I was in kamenka, then got killed in balota, then respawned somewhere on the east coast, then went on my huge mission. After balota I changed servers so my theory about the server being bad is probably wrong. -
Six Launcher - Easy Install/Update, Find/Join DayZ servers, worldwide network
dunkhan replied to sickboy's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Just a warning, I had the six launcher (not the updater, the dayz launcher) running all day today. I just leave it open so it is faster to launch dayz. I started having major lag issues and it spread to everything on my machine. I checked the task manager and the launcher was using 1.6gig of memory and slowly counting up. Anyone know where to post a bug report? -
Please forgive me if all these ideas have been posted already, there are like 1000 threads here. I like to think this post has some new information and perspectives to offer but if it doesn't I will totally understand if the moderators want to move/merge/delete/lock it. I have been trying to set up some stranger group cooperation framework, obviously sandbox player based as intended. There are a number of major obstacles to this. I realise that many of these cannot simply be fixed as they are vastly technical and/or come under the scope of the engine and not the mod. Nevertheless for completeness I am listing them all. Player appearance: All players look pretty much the same, if I can't recognise my freinds and distinguish them from my enemies I can't build any kind of community. Some servers have name tags on mouse over but this sucks as well because it negates hiding and cover and generally ruins immersion. My proposed solution would be giving players the ability to attach large coloured dots to other players. You could only see dots you yourself had placed and not those placed by others. So I could tag all my friends in blue and anyone who tries to kill me with red and then I can recognise instantly who is who. There are many other possible solutions. Server stability: This one is pretty self explanatory. I posted in my thread in the survivor HQ 'I will be on server ' Then had to edit it again and again as the servers encountered their various issues. My post ended up looking like this "Edit: NY2 was having major lag problems so I moved to virginia2, which then went offline so then I went to virginia 4, and after a while had to move to seattle." Communication: In an ideal world direct chat would be sufficient. A lot of people don't have microphones, a lot of people don't have the beta patch, a lot of people are too shy, a lot of people just don't want to communicate. If someone comes up to me, how can I work out if they are heading over to my outpost as advertised to cooperate with me, or are just wandering around. I got shot for the contents of my backpack the other day, while at the same moment I was trying to tell the guy about the cool stuff in my bag and how he should just help himself if he wants it. Those are the big three. It is all very well to call this game a sandbox experiment to see how people will act, but in a world where you can't recognise others, you cant communicate with them, and you can't rely on the stability of reality... well that experiment is a bit redundant.
