This topic is my attempt to create a better dayz community with my understanding of the currents issues in this dysfunctional family (so yeah, I can be wrong). I personally think that we are really close to achieve something great, a game that reunite thousands of people around the same goal; having fun in their free time with the game they loved. But yeah, I also think that everyone and their grandma have their own idea of what "dayz is" which is really different from one person to another and create a lot of tension and frustration. We all know what will happen soon enough: private servers. If you think that you know "what the majority want or how dayz should be" private server are often there to prove you wrong. If we don't come up with an idea, most of them will play on private server which is not the best scenario in my opinion. In my opinion, there are 3 main way to play dayz, but of course each person can choice how they wanna play at each logon no matter what they were playing in the last session. 1) the friendly survivor: running around, avoiding people, running when bullets are flying, sometime going berserk and kill someone for an adrenaline rush, etc. Usually do not kos. 2) the player hunter: looking for good sniping spot, ambush the unwary, fighting to the last, torturing the poor soul and sometime going "friendly" for the lol or to feel free. Usually kos. 3) the helpful player: looking for other player to play with, usually talk to unarmed player to propose some help, scout the coastal city to ambush bandit, protect the survivors from zombies, escort players to nice looting location. Usually only kos heavy armed suspicious player. Of course, everyone can do whatever they want, so, there are a lot more that 3 type of players but I think that this is mostly accurate. There are no rules, that the core of dayz (that and the zombies, the main enemies faction). But I think that one faction is missing, the one that can bring the community together, lets call it "the untrained weakened lucky civilian that still breath here and there on chernarus". I think that a civilian faction would increase the fun of this game for all the players, no matter if you are a lone unpredictable survivor, a kos player hunter, a bandit looking for some interaction or even an hero. The main idea is that this faction is to create a lot more interaction in the game, a way to bring the kos players and the friendly together. Stay with me, here how it could work: When you create a char, you have the option to choice this faction, a warning message popup and explain you that this faction is mostly for interaction, you char will be limited, weaker and will be no match for the other hardened survivor. The civilian cannot equip any military weapons The civilian cannot equip any backpack If the civilian shot at any player, he will miss the 3 first time If the civilian keep shot at a player, the gun will jam and only another survivor can repair it by equip it The civilian can be shot at but instead of hurting him, your gun will jam for 10 sec and you will receive a message reminding you that this kind of player want some interaction and cannot fight back, be a bandit, rob him, steal 50% of is blood, there are no skill involve since he cant fight back, be nice and fair (maybe an rp message, whatever, something nice). The civilian will them receive a message telling him that he perceive danger (meaning, if he was a survivor, he will be dead already) The kos player can then choose to kill this player any way, which is not nice, limit the interaction, but still legal. (Maybe kicking the player for 30min after 2 civil murder but.. I don't think that it will be popular) The civilian do full dmg on zeds but cant shoot right after 300-600m It can be something different, but you got the idea (for example, it can be that civilian only do 5% dmg on other survivor because of crappy shooting, gun malfunction, etc). Dayz will then have a lot more interaction, a lot more unlucky civilian will be abused and robed and there will be civilian fighting zeds in every corner.. Civilian can be used to bait another survivor or an hero, be creative ;). I think that the immersion would be greatly increased and everyone will still have the chance to play how they want to play. Maybe your idea is better than mine, but i think that the solution is somewhere around this one. Another playable faction that is there to create a nice immersion mixed with the zombies, a faction that can be "safely played" for those who dislike pvp and "safely abused" for the bandits who want to play the bad guy but don't want to expose them self when they know that they can simply kos. Even the hardcore kos player may want to just wander around as a civilian and his shotgun sometime.

Since the update (for my experience): no more loot in cars no more loot in military tents no more loot in some model of sheds still no loot in the deer stands now we have loot in the 2 story barn for mosin: shipwreck and schools for long range scope: barracks and control tower for nearly everything else: these garages that usually are 3 or more side by side (there are a LOT of them in Chapaevsk, north east of balota)

I like this new feature, it add a lot to the game, but I'm pretty sure that this is not working as intended right now. Me and some friends cumulated roundly 20 "clean kill" to fully test the feature (among other things) and to come to the conclusion that far too many items are ruined without being hit. For example, I killed a player with a .357 in the head and another bullet when he was on the ground and another player with three 5.56 in the head. Nearly all the equipment was ruined except his cap and his glasses. We all know that dayz is in alpha, that not the point. My question is: Is that intended this way or will it be worked in the future to only damage what should really be damaged depending of the situation?

Constructive feedback: 3PP pvp video are not worth watching. If its a pvp video, it must be in first person. Imho.

When there will be more than 30 different weapons, we will have an hard time to find enough ammo for the right gun. Samething for foods when they will diversify the residential loots and add a ton of cars/heli/plane parts in the industrials zones. Foods and the right type of ammo will then be rarer, just wait for it. -
I think that when there will be more civilian weapons, there will be also less servers hopping. Most of the players that end up at the military building dont even have a weapons, so they servers hop if they are unlucky. When you already have a weapons, you just move somewhere else.

You can try to find a good map on the web and make sure that you both spawn near the coast. After that, use the map to locate you and your brother (you may need to walk a bit on the road to find something), after 10-20min you should be together since the spawns are all between elektro and berezino for now. -
Why does every person with a gun shoot on sight?

Long story short, a guy was once a friendly dude, he got shoot on sight multiple time and then start to kos too. In his rampage, he kos some friendly who in their turn become berserk... They finally kill some other friendly who also lost their cool, and so on. The humans in this game are rabit and there are no turning back. -
And some other just happen to have friends and sometimes group for the sole reason that most of them are online.

It happen to me once too, i pulled out my firefighter axe and killed one of them (I had an m4). Some need to learn their lessons.. and some voice are really annoying. Aka if you want to rob someone, have at least one weapon and make sure to use a manly voice.. or a sweet polite gentle women voice. ^^

My honest suggestion is to stop playing dayz if you care that much about your stuff, really. These situations will happen again, and sometime people will just one shot you from 1000m, you will never see it coming and it will not be a bug.

I once fought 5 zeds nearly at the same time but that it, the town was now empty. But yeah, its seems that there are something like 10-12 zeds in each of the 2 new towns north of balota.

Yeah, that was not ok (in my opinion). But in the other hand, a fresh spawn in Stary is suspicious at the first place.. even if he got the "lucky" spawn of Novy he should be aware that most of the people there are heavily armed. And since he asked the way to Cherno.. well, after some explanations he may have asked you directly to send him back there. ^^

I never killed a fresh spawn that didn't carry any weapons. That can be risky, but i choose to accept that risk. Killing what look like an unarmed player is not ok in my opinion, you basically choose to play on easy mode, which do not produce good video and do not demonstrate a good sportsmanship in regards of the other players. 1) first person view 100% of the time (first pp server if you want a fair fight) 2) do not kill any fresh spawn (players who do not carry any weapon) 3) talk to those who carry a melee weapon (something like: drop it or get killed) 4) sneak upon those who carry a firearm and execute them (if this is was you want) 5) or even better, announce yourself to armed players and then start the fighting (stay behind cover obviously) That can produce videos worth watching. In my opinion.

Yeah, do not trust anyone. If you are the friendly type but no not want to be killed at each encounter, shoot first if another armed player spot you at the open. If you are the one that sneak upon them, talk if you wish but stay covered until its clear. I shoot on sight when i have no cover and the one that face me is armed but usually i announce myself and keep my cover. Most of the time they will combatlog or try to sneak on me without talking.. which for me is an hostile action and I end up firing at them any way. But its still nice from time to time to help some unpredictable players who look like unarmed.

If we can burn it or at least burn what is inside, ok. :) I think that the main idea must be: nothing is safe, anyone can steal it from you with the right common tools. Which defeat the purpose of a "safe storage", but i don't like the idea of a safe storage. Just my personal opinion. -

I agree, if you want to play the easy mode in dayz, just kos. If you want to play the hard mode, announce yourself first and see what happen, you will need a lot more skills to survive your encounters. Of course this is not all black and white, there are other way to play that involve many skills even if the goal is to kos. But in my opinion, if you kos what look like an unarmed player, do not deny it, you are playing on easy mode and are avoiding these situations that will really test your skills in battle. -
Computer+internet+google= less map in the world. Chernarus was not spared. But yeah, map are really rare actually even if we know where to find them. Adding more maps in the world can be great.

Ruined ammo, canned foods, drinks and clothing.

For now, a zombie can only ruin your helmet and your glasses if they hit you. If that a player that kill you (no matter the weapon used), everything will be ruined except the helmet and the glasses. I can only suppose that the "ruined" system is not working properly and will be fixed in time. Maybe a lot of ruined items are not really ruined and only have the tags. -
Up to 100k desync on nearly every server!!!

I do not have this kind of issues on any of the can/us servers since the last update but yeah.. if your issues are really servers side, the best course of action is to wait until a fix.
