Why not: Church bells could aggro Zeds?

I'd prefer if the bells to sound off randomly maybe because of a wind gust, its odd that everything mechanical and electrical doesn't work any more but the motors turning the church bells work. Positive on bells attracting zombies though, just not by the hour but randomly -
People have different keyboard configurations, for me its RightAlt for direct voice comm, so actually it really is best to check your keyboard config. I think Default was CAPSLOCK. Calling someone that basically gave you an answer to your question a dipshit just because you are too lazy to look it up really isn't beneficial.

Military infected sometimes (very rarely) have it on them as well. You can usually find them around hunting stands and military installations.

Thanks for the report, very interesting and generally positive. I especially like the idea of providing frameworks for players to do things instead of forcing mechanisms on them. Edit: Maybe this stuff could be added to the "The word of Rocket" thread. -

I like the ideas with being able to forage, what I especially like though is the part where it says "decreases hunger/thirst" currently you can can just drink something and you hunger thirst are completely gone. -
Try adding some disadvantages to each class you suggested, generally I like the idea of different specializations - because in the typical apocalypse setting specializations play a big role. There needs to be balance somewhere, or else everyone will just pick the soldier. For example: A soldier wouldn't be able to give a blood transfusion, fix a car, gut an animal. A doctor wouldn't be able to use automatic rifles, fix a car or use a map/compass for orienteering. A civilian should be a jack of all trades, able to do anything but not especially useful. Etc. etc.

If ARMA 2 had some decent inventory system, I'd be all for it. With what we currently have, this just will lead to other issues. -

This is completely unnecessary. There are enough hatchets & crowbars near every starting location, within 10 minutes of your spawn you should be able to find at least one of these.

To everyone complaining about not enough guns, no starter weapons etc. : Your wit is the the best weapon to survive. Without it you will die. A lot.

TBH ARMA 2 is currently the only engine viable for DayZ. Unfortunately, it still has many problems, the usability and inventory system is shit. It tries to be close to realism about combat but on the other hand utterly fails at things like collision detection and basic physics.

You possibly didn't make the right choice depending on what review or news was the basis for your decision. Maybe chose your source of information more wisely. There are tons of up-to-date instructional videos on Youtube, just do a search for DayZ guides / tips etc. Remember the mod is in alpha, so some things may change in the future, but its a long haul. Infected in general will become less and less of a threat the longer you play and understand how they work.

Just to clarify - did you not see any loot at all or just no hatchets? Usually they can be found aplenty in barns & industrial buildings (metal sheds, warehouses etc.). The closer you get to the coast, the higher the chances that players spawning in from the coast already scavenged the buildings.

Zexis, don't buy ARMA 2 just for DayZ. Buy ARMA 2 CO for ARMA2 CO & DayZ. I've seen and heard of many people buying the game "just for this awesome r0xxor mod" and then they are disappointed, sad faced and going back to their other favourite game that they played beforehand. I think you are going the right way in testing out ARMA 2 Free version, just to get the right feel for the mechanics. The alpha of this mod clearly is in the very beginning and there still are many holes to fill and things to improve. The current version 1.7.1.5 is sitting quite well with most everyone and the outlook of the soon to be version 1.7.2 is good as well. 1.7.2 will bring a major foundation overhaul and probably will facilitate implementing new features. Personally I'd go with the Steam version if you already are using Steam or go with the retail CD if you somehow are afraid of Steam or generally like the physical media, elsewise there is no difference. -

Currently everyone is on the same side/in the same group. The only grouping you get is by having your buddies on Mumble, Teamspeak, Skype or whatever external voice comm suits you. This is something that may change in the far future of this mod, as its still in alpha testing.

Bohemia Interactive has a quite long tradition of letting their customers participate in testing the different build cycles between versions. These are the beta versions, even if the game itself is technically out of beta. Its a beta of the next update to come, namely 1.61. BIS has fixed several issues that are geared towards this mod (but ofc beneftis the game and other mods as well), this is why using the beta version is mandatory for this mod.

Lets do some fact finding here instead of the ldumb trolling: On a fine day in Chernarus, LieutenantDan was walking through the middle of Vybor, someone drove up to him in an UAZ, asking if he was friendly on directional, drove off and then decided to shoot him. Did you reply? It doesn't seem so (by your report). Were you a possible threat? Yes Did you get killed? Yes Every player is deemed a potential threat by many and if you don't respond to directional or do not cooperate, then you will get shot. Also grats on wandering around in the open just south of NWAF, the sociopath honeypot. The only person you should be mad of is yourself.

Now why would the crows only choose to fly around the bandits? Oh right because the crows indicate when someone is a meanie who shoots others. Nope - this is just another bandit skin but with feathers. -
