  1. I'd take out the possibility to self administer any medical items. I'd keep all weapons and items currently available I'd enhance blood level to 20k

What do youy do if you see a player

To be honest, I don't have any fixed plan. Depending on where I am, who I am with and what impression I have of the other player I'll either shoot immediately or try to make contact from cover. Sometimes I get shot at, sometimes I die, sometimes players just walk past without ever noticing me watching them. In the beginnings of the mod, when unexpectedly encountering other players in the wild In general I used to get lots of "Deer looking in headlights" situations where no one makes a move and both decide to part ways, now unfortunately this awkward situation with the tingly feeling is gone and its either shoot or be shot. Its too bad there is no better way to communicate or show your intentions than through the somewhat unreliable and limited directional voice chat.
  3. In the very beginning I've used a loot map to better find those pesky hunting stands, because in the normal game they've never been more than decoration. Now I find it pretty easy to get around, once you've got your bearings right. The buildings that are enter able in any smaller town are very easily identifiable after a while, from then on all you need to know is where you are and what your next goal is.

    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2.4

Lots of people seem to forget that this mod does not have the same infrastructure beneath it like an MMOG. The mod mimics some features of an MMO, like saving character data and basic itemization. This is why there are many issues that seem to be lacking, but are in fact to be expected as long as DayZ is just a mod for a normal multiplayer game. ARMA 2 lacks the architecture underneath that many MMOGs have. Neither the server, nor the client are capable of many basic things that most MMOGs are founded upon. I believe Rocket is trying his best to implement as many features as possible, but as long as DayZ is "just" a mod, some basics can not change. No one doubts the movability of the base game and DayZ as well as many other prior mods have proven this. Imho some basic borders of what can be done have already been reached, especially regarding security, scalability and persistence. Maybe some models of houses can be swapped or new items / stats be introduced, but after that the possibilities what can currently be done have been exhausted. Nevertheless I think finding out what basically works in an experimental mod environment is the best route to redoing it as a standalone game in the future, which I am very much looking forward to.

    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2.4

As usual looking forward to any progression or experiments made. Now if just all the official servers would be up to date with the current versions of the mod and ARMA 2 beta, that might make it easier to actually test any improvements. Too bad there is no way to weed out the No-Battleye / No-Hive servers in the server browser. Thats the ARMA 2 inventory management system for you. Think of your equipment as a loadout, not stuff you can shuffle around in different backpacks like in WoW.

Experiment: Hero of Canton's used car give away!

More like King of the Hill - I like this thing you are doing. In Industry Speak I think this is what is called emergent gameplay.

    You want a currency system?

Hey there would you like to trade? I have 70 bottlecaps and need a <You are dead>.

    Golden weapons?

Lets get this thing done the DayZ style if at all. To get a golden gun you first would have to find a sieve, then you would have to sieve through tons of water at lakes until you get about 60 gold nuggets. You would need to smelter these gold nuggets for about 4 hours over a campfire. Each part of the gun would need to have its own mold that you create by gathering loose bricks out of random buildings, crusihng them and making plaster to form the mold. The molds would need to dry in the sun and be collected when it rains. Once everything is in place you can cast the liquid gold into the molds, after 30 m inutes waiting for it to cool off, you can then take the parts and assemble them into a golden gun. Unfortunately gold is a really bad material for a firearm and you can only shoot one golden bullet, that you would also need to create beforehand. TLDR; Nope.

Great deathmatch / team deathmatch mod !

It isn't deathmatch if there is no match of some kind going on. OP please understand the difference between open world PvP and deathmatch. Can't stand to hear people using this term for something they can't wrap their heads around.

    DayZ Arma 2

Yah well obviously DayZ is a mod for ARMA, mods usually don't get a rating or get the same rating as the base game.

    DayZ Arma 2

A bit OT but last time I checked ARMA II was rated 18+ ?
  12. A buddy of mine just fell down dead, I was standing next to him and didn't hear any gunshot, maybe some hacked in silenced super rifle who knows. I don't care any more if I die by glitches, hackers or bandits its all the same to me and in the end it doesn't rally matter. You are dead.

    Killing zombies unarmed!

Yepp, this is a well known way to get rid of infected, you're not the first to figure that out.
  14. Yes. They will need to pay for the standalone, just like anyone else will have to pay for the standalone game if they want to play it.
  15. Look he just bought ARMA 2 for DayZ, not for the missions and tutorials that are part of the base game. Stop suggesting such smart things right now, mkay? :-D
  16. Lukio (DayZ)

    Removal of all gear.

I'm for a character wipe once it comes to rebalancing or introducing new items / spawns etc. At one point the playing field needs to be levelled just to weed out the tons of hacked in weapons, duped items and massive hoarding by hackers. Else wise it will be difficult to have decent statistics and visible effects of any changes.
  17. No one cares about the exact name of the pistol or if its clips, rounds or magazine. It shoots infected and other players, that's all that counts. Cool down you Gunspergers!

I heard that before, team work was possible

That was quite a while ago, now the general attitude is just shoot or be shot. Real cooperation is only possible with friends you have on voice comm. Too many people playing DayZ are over-challenged with the idea of communicating and cooperating. A large amount of players probably are used to only take action where there is an incentive / reward to do so, so as long as people can brag about equipment they grabbed from other players or how many kills they have this mentality will take very long to fade out.

    Bigfoot Easter Egg?

Green mountain has many secrets and they are not meant to be shared.
  20. The whole thing is a downwards spiral. For every player who gets shot randomly, you get another KoS / Twitch shooter. The only thing that can currently fix this is the players itself. I just walked past a dude 2 days ago, just said "Hi" and quickly moved on. The character was frozen as probably was the player at his screen. Unfortunately this whole thing is a psychological issue. No one counts how often they did not get killed, everyone just remembers being killed. I do not know how this can be changed, even though I do enjoy the uncertainty factor you get when you happen upon another player. To quote Walter Anderson:“We're never so vulnerable than when we trust someone - but paradoxically, if we cannot trust, neither can we find love or joy”.

Seasons & a possible solution to deathmatching

What about just rotating seasons every 3 months, looking at how there already is a system for that, makes more sense with the whole real time day / night cycle and also has more variations than just one endless season. Like this everyone gets something out of it and it also gives more long term goals (e.g preparing for winter/summer. Nov-Dec-Jan = Winter Feb-Mar-Apr = Spring Mai-Jun-Jul=Summer Aug-Sep-Okt=Fall

    Killing Noobs

The whole "being killed constantly" is largely exaggerated. Mostly its people just running around into the hotspots without any idea what they are doing. Since I've been playing DayZ (1.5.6 I think) I got killed only twice by another player. The game isn't deathmatch, but currently its also not safe to trust any other players except you can be certain they won't harm you or do not have the means to harm you.
  23. So on the weekend and yesterday evening I was finally able to play 1.7.2.3 for more than just one hour. My opinion: - Infected are really good now, they always Aggro when I'd expect them to, if I want to I can sneak up behind them for a kill, but only if I am careful - Loosing infected when running around without weapon works fine, distracting still works but not as efficiently as in 1.7.1.5 (maybe just subjective) - Item spawns seem to be ok, it seems that the Alice pack spawns much more frequently - Did not have the pleasure of finding / being trapped in a bear trap so don't know how they are done - the vision of only about 1000m is really low sometimes, it seems to be an ARMA 2 issue, but when using a scope or binocs your vision should actually be extended by at least 500m. - The visibility / audability changes with rain and fog are really nice and seem to work well with the new zombies - My two buddies and me who play together had serious FPS drops when going into larger towns or cities. For example in Zelenogorsk my usual 50-60 FPS dropped to 4 FPS after a while (10 minutes ca.). There were not infected visible in the town. Not sure what triggered this - it seems regularly logging in / out is a necessity. - Gamma can again be adjusted to let people see perfectly during nighttime (not good imo) - Bone breaking incidents have really been reduced and are now as infrequent as they used to be with version prior to 1.7, which is fine - Security issues remain at large, this needs to go away - Servers that are outdated or running hacked up versions to allow banned players still are being listed by Gamespy
  24. If you want fun, go play a different game. Using hacks will not even the playing field because you are playing way out of bounds.
  25. Well I'm not pissed at that specifically, I'm pissed at each server using a different beta version of Arma 2 and a different version of DayZ PLUS having completely different settings like name tags, map markers etc.. Its a old problem with ARMA 2 servers and mods being completely fragmented and every server host changing server variables to his liking, no matter if it is beneficial or not. Currently not even the naming conventions are being followed correctly, so although I get 1000+ server listed, only 50% of them are accessible and out of these 15% actually are running the official, current versions and don't have any awkward settings. On top of that I'm seeing many servers listed that obviously exist for players that have been banned, why is a riddle to me. So I do agree that people hosting their own server are paying for it to run and should have some leeway in how they want it to run (settings like GMT, 3DP and CH) - but at least keep your server up to date and accessible. Last time I checked there were some 1.7.2.1, 1.7.15, 1.7.1 servers floating around with the occasional 1.6.2 or sth. like that, not to mention almost every third server having a different ARMA 2 beta version installed.
