Ya forgot bugs. I'm sorry I have to be the person to whine on about it, but it's an ALPHA. Lines of unstable code probably ruptured his internal organs for all I know.

Game as support / medic / hero... It's quite sad
jaginun replied to TimM1983's topic in General Discussion
Those damn japanese, always rewriting cranial instincts! Seriously though, I doubt it would change according to cultural teachings. I know we all expect the japanese guy to sacrifice himself for the protagonist in a movie (Predators anyone?) but it's called human nature for a reason, because we all share it. It might be a bit degrading for someone like that to do what must be done, but nothing would change in the long run. And on topic, it's a Z-Apoc/survival sim. The fact that the game is forcing players to act like that to a chartible person can only mean that it's meeting it's intended target of releasing people's survival instincts, can't it? You're one of the last alive, which must mean you are capable of at least some meagre selfishness, starving with nothing on you, scared for your life, and then you meet the OP with food and water and everything you need to survive. You're expected to share with him, giving up potential supplies to this person you've never met? Sorry to say, but in that situation the people still alive would likely wait until he's sleeping and bash his head in, if it meant you were gonna survive. -
Yeah, I approve of this idea a lot. I can imagine a player picking up a book that details how to find the north star, or set up a stove and cook. Rather than getting +5 to a skill, the player actually learns something. EDIT: Also, I would argue that the player can do these things before he has read a book. It shouldn't be degraded to 'find the book you need to transfuse blood' , but rather an ingame tutorial for players that havn't checked the wiki, or don't want to.

It's not just about learning the system, while that is one aspect, it's also about the actual difficulty in doing it. Like I've said, what if the person you're playing with has an incompatible bloodtype/rhesus factor? As far as I can see, there isn't any easy way of getting out of that. Blood transfusions were one of the only things that brought players together, and by complicating it you might drive people away. While realism is nice, we have to respect gameplay as well.

-Tape Recorders Seems like a nice late-development thing to add, but my main concern is about the server technicalities. This would probably include recording and saving the voice as a sound file, which might lag up the server considering it's a big change from just saving text files. Skills Eh, I've made posts on this before, too big of a project. - Handcuffs Yeah, I agree, I don't have much experience using them, but if what you say is true then it should be upped. - Bloodtypes Definitely, and not just make it easier to determine blood types, but also reduce the conflicts that might happen because of different blood types being transfused. It's gonna be a big pain to google the transfusion system every time you need one, only to find your only buddy is incompatible.

Nice to see there are still some good ol' fashioned humanists around. I assume you have ' Kill 'em all and let God sort 'em out!' embroidered onto your jacket?
-
No release date iirc, but I would expect them after the dev's have finished a semi-completed weapon and armour list in game, as well as fixing loot spawning issues.

One, slightly offtopic question I do have is. People that claim to hunt bandits, how exactly do you tell? There are no bandit masks in SA, and unless you run across a bandit in action (which must be pretty rare), you might as well be shooting at anyone with good gear.
-
While there are going to be new features in the full game, I think they would have made some announcement back in the development of the mod if they were planning to do anything like this. The same goes for NPC traders, bases, or anything else of that kind.

Not trying to start a cpu war, but it's generally accepted that AMD CPU's are inferior to Intel ones, and with the optimisation problems this game has it makes sense it doesn't run the best. The GPU's, on the otherhand, are equal to and cheaper than their Nvidia equivilents. (Warning: Poster owns a AMD CPU and is satisfied with it, for the love of god don't reply bashing me about it, I am not out to get people who own AMD hardware)
-
Yeah, development hasn't even started as far as I know, it's not gonna be for a good couple years.
-
I agree, both for the reason the OP stated, but also the fact that this Alpha places a lot of priority on bugtesting, and it makes sense for the players not to be stuck in a position where they can't try out the game. Too many people see this as the game being released early, when in actual fact it's a chance for reactions to the game development and to help bugtest (they have an entire other site set up for the sole reason of rooting out bugs)

Considering that getting the best gear isn't exactly a challenge at the moment, I go down to the coast and be a ne'erdowellian PvPer.

Suggestion for a better perma-death feeling
jaginun replied to St. Jimmy's topic in General Discussion
Like the other posters, I get your line of thinking, but it's flawed in the fact it would be a nightmare to team up with anyone you want to play with. A different idea would be leave the dying mechanics as they are, but make the higher level items in the game like military grade weapons, ammo for those weapons, military clothing and equipment incredibly rare, as well as have more of these item types (within reason, I disagree to machine guns and snipers like the DayZ mod) like perhaps another map type that specifically marks places of interest on the map etc, or a bottle that purifies any water put into it (A real thing, google is your friend). What would this solve? Firstly, you don't want to die with all that good gear on you, and it's not like you can horde it at base, it's near to impossible to find. Secondly, no one wants to risk getting in a firefight with a newbie who has nothing to lose when you are stocked with equipment. Also, just an afterthought, in reply to this. A large majority of guides to new players in DayZ tell them that the game is better with a friend, which is true, and I wouldn't doubt that a good portion (probably the majority) of the community play with friends from the start. This would mean there would be a population flux on the servers this not being applied to, while the servers with this addition would be barren. -
Why do people think there would be more civilian weapons than military?
jaginun replied to captainvette2112's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, while having a few mil-grade weapons would be nice for end game, I would like to see lot's of recreational guns, .22's and hunting/sports rifles, as well as a few handguns etc. What this would also acheive is to further reinforce the idea that using guns on zombies is a bad, bad idea, if the hunting rifles are anything like the enfield or the CZ, they would attract a lot of zombies, which would limit their useage to emergencies and PvP. -
AFAIK, the wipes are because of the constant updates. I'm fairly sure Rocket stated that wipes are gonna be happening every couple days with regular work on the game. While the situations that you have said that you have been wiped on might point to an actual bug, even if that wasn't affecting you, don't expect to keep a character for more than a week at best.

Eh, I would argue that normal aircraft have more of a place in Chenarus rather than the ULA. Sure, aeroplanes probably have more complex mechanics, but there would be a lot more prop craft like the AN-2 rather than these propelled gliders, as with real life. However, disregarding realism I do like the idea as they are an actual useable alternative to larger planes. These ones, as you say, could land in a field and take off again without worrying about runway space, and it wouldn't just be owned by the largest group on the server like with previous aircraft. While it's unrealistic, and as jSharp says, might not be the most manly of vehicles, I think the gameplay niche it fills beats the downsides. +1

Yeah, nice imagination but really this will not work at all. Firstly, anyone captured will either try to escape as soon as possible, like within 2 minutes, or just plain log off. No one will ever want to play being a slave for the sake of realism. Secondly, adding a whole new area of the map as well as NPC towns or traders is an entirely larger step, and it would be one of the largest features in the game. Thirdly, what use are slaves? Selling them to rich cannibals? I doubt anyone has a feudal society relying on serfs up and running yet. And finally, as people have mentioned, yes, currency. I could appriciate money if this was decades after this apocalypse, like Fallout, where there are survivors that agree to work together, but people in the Chenarus exclusion zone can't even work together, let alone set up a fiscal system, including counting inflation/deflation etc.

It's nice to see work is being done about increasing the server cap, but I have to say I will not be playing with that many players on. I already feel cramped with 25 other players on, 120+ would just end up with coastal boxing matches :)

I'll just add some specific tips I've found from playing Standalone, concerning tactics. - Unlike in the Mod, melee weapons aren't totally useless, and should be your sole zombie killing weapon. Keep your bullets for players. - If you aren't connecting your melee hits when swinging, try running into the zombies when you do it, but be careful, it might make you easier to be hit. - If you're being shot at, the worst thing you can do is get on the ground. This might seem like the opposite of what you should do, but with the clunky movement system in ArmA and ArmA related games, it means shooting a still target is way easier than one on the run, even if the still target has a small profile. - Obviously, don't trust anyone. But if you are talking to another survivor, ask him questions, specifically about his team/teammates. If he pauses before he answers, it's likely he's got a friend somewhere nearby. Politely end the conversation and move away, while using alt to keep an eye on him. After he is out of sight, change course dramatically to make sure you are not being followed. - Looting in cities should be quick and efficient. While a starving player may be compelled to crack a tin of sardines open on the spot, or to rearrange his inventory to sort out ammo from food, this is likely to end up attracting zombies or players. Get into the forest to start stuffing your face with native Slavic treats and to get OCD on your backpack. - When engaging in combat, remember that 19/20 of your bullets should be used to keep your enemy in cover, especially with automatic weapons. Fire in Semi Auto mode, with a bullet being fired every 0.6 seconds or there about, for about 3 seconds, and then move to a better location. He will be too scared to look for where you are lest his head get blown off, and you'll sneak up on him with a better position.

I think that the armoured and ungunned vehicles would be alright, although I think there has to be some balance to the increased bullet protection, perhaps an incredible fuel useage like real military vehicles compared to civilian models. What I don't like is large APC's or anything like that, limit it to Humvee's please.

I'm up for that, I think I've added you on steam. I've played the mod for about 2 years as well, and I have a lot of experience with the map, and I can help out with any server troubles you have if you need assistance at all.

Need Medical Assistance? We can help.
jaginun replied to Dr Wasteland MD's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hello. Me (Jaginun) and a friend (keats in game , cmccluskey on steam) are interested in being part of yourr organisation for , but unfortunatly I cannot add you on steam , as your friends list is full. We would like to talk to you , and arrange our terms , but we cannot do it through steam. Is there any way you can talk outside of steam? If you need information on this thread , here is some. We are both players , sort of experienced , that have reached the 'playability peak' ingame. I cannot say that we have been on the straight path during our time here , but we would like to turn that around , by putting our man power into something beneficial , such as protecting medics. We think your group is a very good thing , especially for an unscripted player-based organisation. I'm afraid that pure medical work is beyond us, the hippocratic oath is a lot of medical jargon to us, but we are availible for protection work , for gathering and looting work , and I am good for pilot and driver work. We will work for free , besides some loot shares (if any). We will most likely be on from 12:00 to 20:00 UTS/GMT, and we can play on any servers that we are needed on. -
A lot of good those blood bags did you.
jaginun replied to Blippy's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
A good amount of players do not only use blood bags when they have been shot , go unconcious and down to 4K blood and survive , but also for mediocre zombie attacks that they can get out of , ones that bring you down to 9 or 8K blood , so you don't have to run around with a desaturated screen for a period of time. -
The one and only Anti-PVP/PvP Discussion thread! Whine/discuss here!
jaginun replied to Legacy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
What is a solution to PvP? The message I got from reading that is removing PvP completely. And there are definatly groups that take the anti PvP idea into their own hands , just take a quick look at the Survivor HQ forum subsection.
