Rocket said : Cannibalism will be eventually part of the game
jaginun replied to gamer222's topic in General Discussion
Yes, it's gonna be quite lulzy, especially with the handcuff system, and I'm just counting down the days till I see someone with the name 'Sawney Bean' or 'Sweeney Todd' -
I think we can assume that the zombies took the country by suprise, and they didn't have a chance to fight back, and ran instead, 'abandoning' it like you've said. Don't treat it as if there has been a zombie 'invasion', but instead a change in management. I prefer the idea that there hasn't been some all out zombie war, or amazing struggle for life, but a quiet death of society. It's rather more dignified than some blockbuster zombie movie style invasion. It's like the T.S Elliot Poem. This is the way the world ends This is the way the world ends This is the way the world ends Not with a bang but with a whimper

I was arguing that it WASN'T military grade, and thus it shouldn't have expansive targeting or ranging systems. That's why I want the mil-dots, because it would mean it's hard to use, as mil-dots take practise, with the later military grade scopes being easier to use etc. EDIT: Looked back at the thread, I assume you were talking to me but not sure :S. Just ignore if you weren't.

I believe they are bringing in some kind of gun bag, like the pistol holster. Of course, it would provide less protection than this, but it would be easier to carry.
-
Please use the search function, and the answer is after they have put in most of the guns, armour, food and equipment they want most likely. So you're looking at mid-late 2014,

I agree that this should have mil-dots, perhaps instead of zeroing. I assume the scope is to be an early game long range mod, which means it should be hard to use, which includes making people either guess with it, or use the mil-dots if they think they can. Later military grade LRS's can have zeroing and easier mil-dot schemes (Like the dragunov scope).

101/02 are 5.56, but 03 and 04 are 7.62. Not saying they should all go in the game, but they are pretty identicle to that Finn weapon except it's got more chance of appearing realistically. Ya aren't gonna find many Finn mercenaries in this ex-soviet wasteland.

I think that what skills your character has should be limited to what skills the player has. Piloting a chopper ain't easy, and if you learn how to do it, good on you! Not many players can navigate at night just by use of the stars, but if you can, then brilliant! I've mentioned this before, but with the amount of zombies around, chances are you're gonna be fit enough to run for a good while anyway, so having certain characters with better stamina would be obselete. The game is complicated enough so that it is a question of whether the player knows how to do something, and not the character, which I think is good.

So this would be like, a rare AK, just with a new texture job? I would be up for advocating one of the later Kilashnikov models in as very late game equipment (AK -101/02/03/04?), but this doesn't seem like a big step up from the AK, apart from the increased adaptibility.

Batteries and some electronics thoughts.
jaginun replied to Land Squid's topic in General Discussion
Batteries: Yeah, I like this idea. It's complicated, but not amazingly so, and adds some more difficulty to the game without being artificial or unrealistic. GPS: I like the addition of realism, but it seems a little difficult to predict and use for such a small item. Perhaps instead, you have to pick up new software for the GPS, in order to use GPS in say, the west, or north east area of the map. Yes, it would be unrealistic, but a little less hassle than having to work out orbital patterns. And to add a touch of realism, once the satelites are in orbit, they don't tend to change position unless they have their velocity changed, so it would be more a question of them being unorientated. NVG: Yep, I like this idea. Make these massive contraptions on your face actually act like machines on your face, and not ski-goggles, with prisine NVG's having the FoV of 45 degrees or so, with badly damaged NVG's barely having 5 degrees or so, as well as the tops and bottoms obscured. The only problem I can see is how this will work with customisable FoVs. It could stay the same for everyone but it would mean people with large FoV's to start with would have large black areas of their screen. -
Ideas for dayz: SAFE ZONES and ROAMING HORDES
jaginun replied to J3D1M1NDTR1CK5's topic in General Discussion
They tried safezones with infamous game you have all probably heard of that was trying to get on the DayZ bandwagon. It didn't go so well, and there's a reason it's gone down in videogame history. I wouldn't argue that the blame is to place on that decision, but It hardly helped, and if those dev's did it, then DayZ should stay away. -
Will melee be improved to be more realistic?
jaginun replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
Actually, you can keep them stunlocked if you aim for the head, however the bad hitboxes combined with the aforementioned server lag and general clunkyness of the game means it's not the easiest thing to do. -
Yeah, the main hive should be an even playing field for all, anyone with any game effecting custom settings should be put on a private hive, with the public one for one strict ruleset.

Red chain frequency goes up as internet connectivity goes down. Check you're not downloading, and make sure your drivers for any network adapters you have are up to date (Problem for me). And of course, make sure you're in a local server.

Game as support / medic / hero... It's quite sad
jaginun replied to TimM1983's topic in General Discussion
Despite what I argue, I tend to be a charitable and collectivist person, but I do say that in a situation of extreme and severe disaster such as DayZ, people revert to a very selfish mindset, despite what they've been brought up on. Of course, it would have to be a disaster of unequalible measures, but the survivors of which would have to have a individualist leaning prior to the event in order to make it this far and be one of the last left alive. -
Why do people think there would be more civilian weapons than military?
jaginun replied to captainvette2112's topic in General Discussion
I think there is a conflict between people arguing the average amount of weapons should be based on either the amount of military buildup for such a small area or the average based on similar Ex-USSR countries. For gameplay purposes, I hope it's the latter, but I do understand where people arguing for the former are coming from. -
From what I've seen, people are not nearly as aggressive as with DayZ Mod, which is suprising seeing as, like you say, there isn't much content. From here on in, it should get even friendlier, unless there is a change in player attitude (Unfortunately likely).

Game as support / medic / hero... It's quite sad
jaginun replied to TimM1983's topic in General Discussion
You're misconstruing my point, the people helping were surviving well themselves, and the survivors of the natural disasters had nothing they needed or posed any threat. And I'm pretty sure a survival instinct isn't about killing everything you see, it's about getting the upperhand, whether that means killing for it or not. -
[Vid] Realy anoying graphics bug someone please help!
jaginun replied to desryachri's topic in General Discussion
I have the same issue with some buildings, and I'm not sure what causes it or what the fix is, but I would like to know. -
They'll probably bring in a lot more mods for weapons, so this won't be the only semi-auto universal gun. And 'a mix of m14 and dmr', assuming you mean the DMR from the DayZ mod, the M14 IS the DMR. One gun, just different body and scope.

jaginun replied to TimM1983's topic in General Discussion
Don't forget though that these people will stay in those places for 6 months, after which they fly back to their comfy homes and get to hear people praise their charity. People can be selfless when their safe, but your primal instincts kick in when it's them or you. Yeah, being cooperative would be the logical option, but people wouldn't think logically. For example, if you planned your zombie escape plan, it would probably accept the fact that your loved ones might get bitten or lost, and you would have to soldier on. But in an actual situation, you would choose the illogical option to save (or try to save) them, we all would. It's not our minds doing the thinking, it's our genetics. -
Whatever you do, don't let them go to the toilet. We know how that ends.

Best settings to improve FPS for radeon 6850.
jaginun replied to chewythefirst's topic in General Discussion
I own a 6870 (Upgrading to a 7870 within days) and I would make sure to turn things like Terrain and Cloud quality down, as most of the time you don't want sharp clouds, and terrain is obscured by the foliage anyway. Set the video memory to 1024MB and turn off Vsync. Apart from that, just use Catalyst to overclock it if you can take the extra heat, and make sure you up your CPU as well. I know how bad it can look, and I'm afraid your gonna have to deal with it until some hardware update comes to reduce the strain on the GPU. -
Will melee be improved to be more realistic?
jaginun replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
While I would love a better and cleaner melee system, but I think the engine is the limiting factor here. Implementing your suggestions might make it a bit deeper, but it would still be the lagfest it is at the moment. If I had one suggestion to help things, it would be to just increase the melee range a bit. -
From what I've experienced, the spawning isn't unusual. I've spawned as far north as Novy Sobor before. And the death, it's possible he was hitting you all along, but the server lagged out and only just resynced. He probably punched you to death and ran away in that time. I've had that before, when I was looting and suddenly I was unconcious and a man appeared out of nowhere with an axe, hacking away at me.
