I would be heavily appreciative if anyone had some tips to avoid rather running into people. But the big question here is, when I get into a pvp situation... How could I react that would better the outcome?

You could join the server I'm currently playing on with a friend (Private Hive), there is a huge team on here devoting most of their time to the elimination of any bandits on the server. Just last night we had a run in with a few bandits at Green Mt. hah, it was a hell of a battle. But they couldn't stand up to my buds M107 ;) I'll get the server info to you later today if you want!
