Hacker in Server US128 Be aware
hivemind (DayZ) replied to Bruce (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Yeah, we faced this hacker as well, me and my friend. My friend hit him at least 3 times in the chest and i hit him for certain with 5 SVD Camo shots in the chest. Did not die. The entire server was slayed a bit after that. I lost a range finder, nightvision, SVD Camo, Mod 0, all available tools, meat, blood bags morphine. I cant tell you how long it took me to get all that... New day... new grind... -
Heh, i didn't really think it would be confused for the game :D But it was eerie being out there cause it reminded me so much about the game.

So i was out in the forest looking for some chanterelles a couple of days ago when this big storm cloud comes in and darkens everything. I stumble upon a deer stand and suddelny it feels like zombies should come any second over the hill...

Anti server hop system suggestion
hivemind (DayZ) replied to hivemind (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Well I see that you may think that. I was more going for weeding out posts without any basis for saying that the system can be gamed or that legitimate users could get locked out. If you have any specific points to make I'll certainly debate your rebuttal. Just to head further off the rails; I was in before you said "inb4 user posts something ... tries to disqualify any rebuttals with "inb4"". Irrefutably a logic error. -
Rocket wrote in the latest patch thread that he was considering a system against server hopping but had a hard time knowing when to punish. This system does not adress that. It could however be run for a while in the background and collecting data until there is a clearer picture. The system would: * Keep a scoring scheme on log outs. * Multiple log outs lowers your scoring(higher ping means less impact, ideal would be to measure packet loss). * Multiple log outs with invetory changes should even further lower the score(Looting from tents and vechicles should be less impactful) It should look for consitent behaviour. * A single incident with someones internet connection where, as an example, 5 disconnects within 15 minutes shouldnt noticibly alter the scoring. * Having a high score(reputation) should would generally mean less alteration of the score * Server admins could cast a single one time vote(or possible on a weeks timeout) for a player. When concensus is met across many admins there could be concequences. Without really knowing under which limitations the mod and engine operate under i guess its a fairly complex and taxing system. Slow to kick in even. At the very least its my 2 cents and a rough outling of a system that could work. Also none of the scoring rules should be known (I guess the admin voting one would be the only one). inb4 system can be gamed inb4 legitimate users will be caught

DayZ Maintenance ~ Should be functional again
hivemind (DayZ) replied to Vipeax's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Imagine how happy the troll(s) must be over the destruction and outcry you all are writing about. Do something else meanwhile. Don't give them the satisfaction. And by the way, it's an alpha you aren't entitled to anything from the devs. We are here as testers when the system works and when it does'nt work. -
Helicopter crash sites
hivemind (DayZ) replied to thebluefish92's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I know i spotted one just outside of zelnogorsk. Im not certain enough where, so i just say generally close to zelnogorsk. Just so someone can check and confirm. From an engine standpoint they probably can't be 100% random. I guess there are enough designated spawn points to make them appear at least somewhat random. -
[DayZMod] Do you have an API?

Nice troll attempt. Could you please keep the thread constructive? -
FEEDBACK: Humanity - heartbeart.
hivemind (DayZ) replied to hivemind (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
You won't hear your own heartbeat. And the problems i describe is when you play in groups with other people that have the heartbeat. I understand that the hearbeat was implemented as a subtle way of telling bandits apart from survivors. I just want to say that when there are groups of bandits this is really not subtle at all, it breaks immersion and it also breaks my ability to focus on the game and have fun. Its that distracting -
It will absolutely drive you crazy to be in a group of 2-3 people having the heartbeat. I found it to be a cool feature at first. But its annoying as hell in the long run when you have to listen to it. Especially if you have someone that has 7-8 murders (Most in self defense even, long fight in cherno), its no longer a heart beat its a drum. Please revise.

What should our next competition be?
hivemind (DayZ) replied to mattlightfoot's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Best feature to implement in the game. Winner gets the feature implemented. -
There is no game without PvP. There is nothing there. You would loose interest in the game so fast. Kill zombies? How long before you have so much ammo and gear and tents with stuff that no amount of zombies matter? There is no one to take your gear, raid your tents or reset your progress. The game is frustrating, unforgiving and punishing. Thats why its fun.
