  1. I agree, it is wrong and I hope it is blacklisted. But can you imagine playing DayZ with no fear of other players? What would be the point?

The issue isn't so much about the accounts being deleted, it's about the compromised security which resulted in the accounts being deleted. Forum members shouldn't HAVE to do a forum search to find out that there was a security issue which lead to a deletion of forum accounts. This information should be plainly displayed on the front page of DayZMod.com (or in the news section of the website) so that anyone, logged in or not, would be notified of the issue. What really happened was something like this: Our house was robbed while we were away. The police arrived without our knowledge, changed the locks, made sure the criminals were taken care of and then posted a notice about the incident back at the police station explaining what happened. Eventually we arrive home to find out our key no longer works. Then, after getting a new key made, we become aware that the house was robbed by talking to our neighbors. Eventually we find out a notice was posted at the police station that explained it all. And we are left wondering why the police didn't contact us directly or at least post a notice on our front door about the incident.

Not all of us log in every day, and considering the amount of traffic and new threads created each day (and the fact that even multi-page threads will drop off the first page within minutes), it's not exactly apparent that threads are missing. You are viewing this from the perspective of a Forum Mod. It's your 'job' to recognize oddities with the forum. The rest of us are viewing this as just another player. That fact that so many threads were started about missing accounts helps prove the fact that the announcements section is really not presented very well. I slowed the frequency of my announcement section visits because a majority of the threads in there are targeted towards server admins and not the players. On top of that, it's already been stated in previous posts in this thread, that the titles of the threads in announcements are not very indicative of the info held within. Here we have several forum community members trying to explain there is a weak point in how things are handled when important announcements are made, and yet none of the forum mods seems to want to agree that a change might be needed. I hope this isn't an ego issue, because a lot of the upheaval resulting from the recent forum hack could have been eliminated had there been proper and direct communication. And, once again I have to really point out that there still is no mention of the issue anywhere on the dayzmod.com website (seriously, I keep mentioning this and I get no answer). Why is it not at least in the news section?

    Unofficial DayZ Teamspeak Server

I'm also not able to connect. I just get a simple message "Failed to connect to server". I tried with and without the port info. All of my other TS sessions work fine.

Really the forum mods need to start putting dates or something in the announcement section. There are tons of sticky'd posts there, how do I know which one is brand new? Also, the title of the announcement should be very VERY clear, such as "Forum Was Hacked: Read Here for more Info - Friday, June 8th" Instead, you chose the title "Forum / Security Notice - They trollinnnn". If I was in the mood to read about forums, security and possibly some 'troll'n' thread then I'd have clicked on the one you created. If I was in the mood to learn that the forum was hacked last Friday, then I'd be surely clicking on the title I suggested above. As it was, I had no clue the forums were hacked until I randomly ran across a thread complaining about xyz that had a link back to the announcement thread. Also, why is this information STILL NOT ON THE FRONT PAGE of dayzmod.com? It's not even on the news section.

Average run time Cherno - Stary Sobor

Coincidentally, I just made this trip for the first time (Elektro to Stary). The only thing I found in Stary was an enfield with ammo, nothing else. I wasn't sure what to expect going there. Is there a specific building I should be looting in Stary? I left Stary and ran across another town. I had to shoot a zombie with the enfield, but nothing else got alerted. But then, a 2nd time I had to shoot the enfield and the entire freaking town came after me (over 30 zombies). Is the enfield bugged or what? I had two completely different reactions from the zombies when shooting it. It seems its either no zombies hear it or ALL the zombies hear it.

    About the Security Issues

With great power comes great responsibility. Rocket created a monster of a mod and as a result now has a lot of power over tens of thousands of eager gamers and some of their personal info. When something gets hacked that has potentially 100k+ members, it's important to treat it pretty freaking serious like. I don't see how Tonic believed he could just "email everyone and warn them about the hack" when he already rolled back and removed tens of thousands of forum accounts. Who's he going to email? Also, unless you dig around for the info, the fact that the Db/forum was hacked and people's username/passwords may have been compromised is not readily apparent. Shouldn't there be something about it on the front page of www.dayzmod.com to at least give people a heads up about why their accounts are gone and to maybe warn them to change any passwords on other sites that might coincide with what they used here?
  8. Tonic, you mentioned sending out a mass email alerting the forum users that security breach happened and people's email/passwords were taken. Considering you had to roll back to a DB backup from May 22nd (I believe), how is anyone going to receive a mass email? There were tens of thousands of people who signed up between then and now, all of which have lost their forum accounts entirely and none of which will be receiving any email alerts. I'm really curious how this is going to be handled.
  9. Well, because personal information was stolen. Also, I believe there's a law requiring the website owner to alert all members when their info is stolen.
  10. I only found out by chance, before realizing my account was gone. There's an announcement somewhere talking about someone who hacked the forums and got not only everyone's unsernames/passwords (of course the passwords were encrypted, although still possible to decypher them), they also got all the admin usernames/logins for all of the DayZ hosted servers. Tonic's solution was to send out a mass email to everyone explaining what happened. Except, as I mentioned before, how are all the effected people going to get that email when their accounts no longer exist?

    Has DAYZ now peaked ?

How can an unreleased Alpha Mod 'peak' ? Ask that question again in about a year or so, after it's been fully released (in whatever fashion they plan on releasing it).

    Hi im new.

At bare minimum you need Arma 2 Free version AND Operation Arrowhead (paid addon). Rocket, the developer of DayZ Mod is also a developer for Arma 2 and Arma 3 (and possibly more games that I'm not aware of). I'd consider him a professional developer. :)
