RabidDiabetic: Tried it today, first turning on my MAPs to safeguard my character. But yes, I'd better check for flesh eating pals too

    Only Using the Hatchet

Some kind of an antique sword should "make the cut" - I mean, if we are talking about the zombie apocalypse, there would be all sorts of useable antique swords hanging on people's walls ready to be sharpened. I wouldn't go as far as Bruce Lee nunchucks, however, that is just plain silly.

    Only Using the Hatchet

I guess, in a looting situation, you can keep the hatchet out for quietly dispatching any zombies wandering into your building without alerting any players nearby by gunshots, and have a main gun in your pack for sticky situations. If one were good enough with the crossbow it'd serve dual purposes. Is the crossbow even available in the Arma2 editor for practicing?

    Only Using the Hatchet

Speaking of silent and deadly... No but really, that is good news about there being more melee weapons in the stand-alone. On that subject, I'd like there to be a whole assortment of farm tools, baseball bats, samurai swords, rolling pins, shovels, tire irons, folding chairs (yes, I typed folding chairs), and even prosthetic legs! The reason hatchets are so common is because there would be more readily available melee weapons than guns laying around, obviously. Maybe even a little melee weapon crafting too! You find nails and a baseball bat and with your toolbox you can make a "mace-ballbat"; some scrap metal and barbed wire can make a whip; a stone off the ground and some goat meat and you can make "kid rock"

    Oldest characters

Is it true that if your character lasts for 365 days the next time you log in to the server, any zombies that detect you that day sing you the "Happy Birthday" song?

    Start up problem!!

"you don't pay for shit" Sometimes paying $30 for legitimate software can help you avoid some headaches. You could be playing DayZ with some new friends instead of sitting on the outside. Choose wisely for your time.

    Start up problem!!

Try right clicking on Arma2, then "Run As Administrator" Then do the same for DayZ Commander. Good Luck!

    **Planet F8L** New Server US

Off tomorrow (Tuesday) - well kind of... delivering 3 dozen ducklings to various kindergarten classes for Denise. But afterwards... DayZ on F8L Planet time! Thinking of doing a 6 hour session!

  10. ...and wearing a used adult diaper!
  11. www.herobuilders.com (check out the urban action figures) they have customizable action figures, and one of the shirt choices is a hero plaid shirt. You can choose different clothes, glasses, etc then, when you're done you can file for bankruptcy at the final cost!

Would have joined in today, but I promised Denise we'd get a head start on the vegetable garden. This meant hauling bags of manure, peat, soil, mulch and stakes. Running for 40 minutes in DayZ is so much easier!
  13. For very controlled aerial mapping, I think using the Arma2 3-D editor would be another option. Then, you'd have to pop the screen capture into your Paint.net or Photoshop (I prefer the free Paint.net) and lay in a layer overlay of your "vehicle" movements (or would converting your cursor to a vehicle icon be better?

    A Topic of Thanks

Great story, glad I stuck with it. The suspense of you knowing you are going back to mercy kill your broken-legged friend coupled with the relief of the ghillie rescue is exactly the kind of surprise experience you can enjoy in this game at any time. I've had helicopter lifts and had folks "de-zed" me from a bunch of zombies, I've been bloodbagged by strangers and given food and ammo. The generosity of other players with their time and their gear makes this DayZ so worthwhile. My first intro to the game didn't go well, with me proning in a bush looking at a vehicle, and suddenly hearing a motorbike behind me, then KaPow! Dead.

Thanks mZLY! I knew there would be a solution out there. Sure beats Aborting out of game to check on config. stuff! Yeah, I'm an idiot!

Would it be totally irresponsible of me to suggest you just click "Yes" or "Continue"? Damn the viral torpedoes!

    My trouble with direct chat

As a more "mature" player on the DayZ server, (I'm 44) I sometimes feel the same way (awkward) for mumble/direct chat/voip and feeling like "the old fart" playing around the kids. But then I remember that we're all here to have safe fun and whatever we do for a living, or if we're still in school or college, it doesn't really matter. Sure, if this were us meeting up for lunch it'd possibly be weird (maybe even illegal!) but we use avatars and those avatars level the "strength" variable. Does experience give an edge? Perhaps, if a player were in the military and doing life or death strategy day to day in the Middle East - no doubt! But the raw mass amount of time a younger player who might not have to go to a 10-hour work day to "bring home the bacon" can dedicate to playing & learnin/perfecting the DayZ elements has obvious advantages that also cannot be ignored. I'd follow the cues of a thoughtfully experienced player, regardless of their age, everytime.
  19. "more bush in Chernarus..." For a moment, I thought it was a forum posting about putting together a dating service for DayZ players!

    ***PLANET F8L Scavenger Hunt Event***

Event was fun! I found a DMR and was actually sad that it wasn't the scavenger item: "Toilet Paper" Players were killing each other for their rolls of toilet paper! Looking forward to your next get-together.

    Salvation City f'd me over

Guess it is a good idea to have full levels all around before going to Salvation City. If you log out, on-Map, in the ocean, near Salvation City wonder if that works.

I want to review weapons for you.

    ***PLANET F8L Scavenger Hunt Event***

ME! This event looks like lots of action & fun!
  25. Funny you should mention it, because when I do scratch (my SCALP) while wearing my Track IR 5, my DayZ character scratches his head, WITH THE HATCHET! Took his head clear off!!
