Episode 33, "Running with the Medic Clan" http://db.tt/TOd6DyVf
-
You know, my drawing style isn't that great. I mean, there's all sorts of problems with proportion, line thickness, anatomy... but I figure, what the hell... If it gets a decent story across then so be it. I've seen stick-person comics that are really great because the story/humor/drama is great. If you want to do a comic, then I say "give it a try" - it's not like there's anything to lose. The nice thing about these online forums is that you can have some quick feedback for your work, and it gets to a lot of eyeballs easily.

I think Nooby will accompany "G" on some DayZ Medic Clan adventures. Did GOOOgle perform as a competent medic in-game? Did he trade assistance for goods/loot? Stay tuned...

Episode 32, "Getting Infected" http://db.tt/1DQL6lo4 Note: I didn't know the guy, I'm not the guy, and I hope folks aren't put off. But the fact is, he's part of the DayZ culture.

First day back at the office, so I'll be a little late in posting the next episode. But that's the fun of it, you never really know when the next one will show up. (cough cough)

I'm going to try hiding inside a cow carcass tomorrow. There's a dairy farm nearby and I can make one of those nail/barbedwire bats in a jiffy! Photos to follow!

How about cow carcasses? Perhaps more illumination...in "Empire Strikes Back" Luke Skywalker was "inserted" into a smelly tauntaun by Han Solo to save his life (more for warmth than for hiding) - so in DayZ perhaps if you're in open country, and a horde is coming your way (or PVP survivors) you can kill and gut a cow and hide within its gross, disgusting, blood and gut swollen interior. Movable Furniture: What about being able to MOVE some of the furniture inside those buildings, at least within the same room. Perhaps you can push a bed or wardrobe up against an open doorway (eventually enough zombies could get through, but you could delay their chasing you IF there were a 2nd exit. All Car Trunks Enterable: All car trunks should allow for people to hide inside. There's a red volkswagon YouTube video going around where a player gets into the trunk and basically Direct Chats the unknowing drivers into rages.

Returned from New York with a NASTY sunburn (I'll never learn) - but... dual-wielded weapons would be a deliciously nice modification (and the acronym DWW sounds fun as well). I wanted this one to be just a complete butcher's shop with Nooby going in and slaughtering his way through the bandit base. The Black Widow is too alluring to kill off cheaply, so she had to get away. The use of Sniper Sam for the Humvee distraction seemed to work well as a surprise, the premise being that S.S. was dying anyway and he might as well be useful before re-spawning. Nooby gets smarter as he continues to live in a single life-span - but upon re-spawn, he'll revert to "semi-beginner" because he's essentially new to the DayZ world and also ill equipped.

How do i apply nails/barbed wire to baseball bats?
JeffDetroit replied to slomms's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Until the crafting system has been implemented for 1.7.7.x I guess you'll have to make do with crafting a real-life Nail-CatWire-Bat. Then purchase a few watermelons and have at it! Nothing like smashing a few melons to relieve any Mod-Update delays... -
EXCELLENT! I really like your sense of composition, and your characters have a very unique look. Glad you're using/enjoying those drawing/comic panel apps, they really free you up to experiment with text and layout. Can't wait to see more. Jeff

Does Ver. 1.7.7.7 Finally Allow me to Wear my jeans in Gangsta Style?
JeffDetroit posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've heard this patch: -allows players to wear their pants low so they can show their underwear in gangsta-style -lets player turn their baseball cap 90% (so the bill faces left or right) -includes "bedazzler" for accessorizing weapons with sparkles -has "Snuggies" (the blanket with sleeves) as found clothing -SUVs with spinners, and hydraulics for "dancing cars" -pink axes for the ladies -megaSharks in the ocean -there is a new Mime zombie, its non-aggro animation has it "stuck in a glass box" -new junk loot includes piles of Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors" CD's -toilet plungers melee weapons -the International Hotel now has even more floors you still can't access! -pet hamsters (zombie kill'n hamsters) -unicycles AND tandem bikes -All canned food requires a can opener (which are rare loot) -the Gaz includes an Eject Side Passenger option for "shits and giggles" -chicken juggling (maximum is 8) -Mountain Dew consumed at midnight, at Green Mountain instantly transforms your skin into "Fat guy in a little coat" -
Yes, I've been weighing whether or not I've selected an appropriate title for the series, and while initially, yes, it was fun to see a true beginner grasp blindly through his new zombie apocalypse, I also felt that he'd have to smarten up in some aspects to allow him to explore being a "noob" in other, more sophisticated areas, like negotiations, or playing with the subtle (and not so subtle) variations in the change logs. So, Nooby will always have a learner aspect to him. The changeover to 1.7.7 (and Standalone) will no doubt bring plenty of trial and error for our friend.

Thick Bear: I'd love to see your work, as would others from the forum. Why not draw up a few panels and post them here? We could all use some fresh ideas! I found myself posting my first Nooby McNoob a month ago and already we're at episode 28. Things mature quickly when you do what you enjoy.

I and Many other Demand Change!
JeffDetroit replied to Aporis's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The best weapons for zombie killing are the quiet weapons (melee) because a gunshot only attracts more zombies (and other players who may be KoS as well). The axe, machete, crowbar and baseball bat also never run out of ammunition, the perfect weapon against the zeds. We know all of this... So what are all of the dozens of other weapons for? Many of them are long range guns that can kill well outside of the "zombie spawning radius". Their purpose is to kill other players, because nobody sits on a hilltop snipeing zeds (especially at 500 meters when they're not even triggered to spawn. Okay, so we know that as well. Well, then if you limited the number of guns that spawn in as loot, and perhaps increase the numbers and variety of melee weapons (to make it interesting) - then you'd have a new system in place where players would (if they chose to be KoS players) have to be up close and take more of a personal chance against another player with their "multiple hit necessary" melee weapon. That increased personal risk would force players to be more courteous to their fellow survivors. But, of course, there's no limit to powerful guns in the game, so you can forget that idea. Another twist would be to limit the amount of ammunition that spawns in. That would force the KoS gun-crazy players to only want to target OTHER gun wielding players (for their ammo!) and leave the axe holding players alone as "unworthy" to waste bullets upon. If you were walking around a zombie apocalypse with ONLY 6 bullets, I'm pretty sure you'd think twice about casually shooting other players. We've arrived at the psychological point of this longwinded reply: "Why would players opt for killing on sight over cooperative play?" I honestly think that in this world of texting and indirect, anonymous interactions, that many of the younger players are simpky not experienced with simulated in-game "face-to-face" cooperative gameplay. It is both awkward and scary for those players to communicate, albeit remotely, with other players. Negotiations for them are easier with a trigger, than with words. It'd be interesting to see how a server of "older" players interacts as compared with one of much younger players.- 48 replies

Good analysis. You're right, the black widow's bandit base would have multiple defenders, and Nooby definitely will need back-up.

Does FrostyHD even NEED to log on to DayZ at all to collect viewers for her Twitch stream? She could just re-direct her webcam and just sit there.

Episode 27, "Seeking Daisy" http://db.tt/v6zGE1p4 Question: Should Nooby try to team up? Or go this mission solo?

Joining A Server With DayZ Commander
JeffDetroit replied to Rekli's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Lucky! You're in the Atlantis map. -
Great ideas! The developers should shift ALL of their programmers to this very important modification.
-
I like to delay early adoption for DayZ Version "upgrades" until a few weeks after folks "review" it for me with their complaints/praises. Seems the stronger, deadlier zeds have not just returned the game to a higher level of difficulty (folks were complaining about the zombies being too easy to outrun, hide from, avoid) but have perhaps crossed a threshold where increased difficultly makes it an entirely different game! Not a bad game, just a different one. If your concentration is now on zombie avoidance instead of PvP interaction, perhaps this is what the game devs intended all along, to make it a game about zombies and less about killing other players. I always felt it strange when watching players (YouTube) treating zombies as more of a harmless nuisance than the actual threat. So, yes, if you're simulating zombie survival, the game looks like it has returned to the right track.
