Is this the "Naked Skin" mod? Where all of the survivors and zombies don't have any clothes?

Keybindings for Track IR and Left-Handed Players
JeffDetroit posted a topic in New Player Discussion
Left-Handed? (mouse in left hand) and Use Track IR? I've been playing around with the key-bindings and found a combination that works (for me): All of the Number-Pad keys have been re-keybound for movement with my right hand: *-Gear 7-Roll Left 8-Walk 9-Roll-Right 4-Strafe Left 5-Back 6-Strafe Right 1-Prone 2-Crouch 3-Stand 0-Walk/run Toggle Enter-1st/3rd Person toggle Space-Bar = Recenters the Track-IR (which constantly is used) I'm "almost" tempted to make clip-art labels for the Map; Binoculars; Switch Guns; Toggle Weapons keys... -
Keybindings for Track IR and Left-Handed Players
JeffDetroit replied to JeffDetroit's topic in New Player Discussion
Update: I made the keyboard labels (using clipart) and they came out great! Now my keyboard has a clearly defined set of keys depicting all the many things you can do in DayZ. I'd post the .pdf, but I'm not sure if anyone would care for it. -
Why DayZ will fail as a standalone game
JeffDetroit replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Shall we distill this to a basic truth? The Standalone will take however long it takes to be "perfect" without regard to any/all of our opinions/gripes/warnings/threats. It is a "product" of a company that has been "field tested" by us. We all know that when it is finally released we will all be trying/playing it to see how the game has changed (for better or worse). If the game becomes better in the end, as a result of all of this waiting (heck, we are still playing the game while waiting, it isn't as if they shut down all the servers!) then we will have a fresher and more intense experience. For the "older" game players (like me) I remember waiting for things to load on a 300 baud dial-up modem! You would actually see the text "filling in" on the monitor! Waiting for a game to load was normal. So today, if we have to wait 15 minutes for the server we feel it is unacceptable. Ironically, the very nature of thus game is about learning to patiently and gradually survive. -
Dude, 15-20 FPS?! It must look as if you are playing a form of "Zombie Frogger" ! First thing you should do is see what else is possibly running on your computer that may be eating up your processing speed. If you can shut/temporarily shut those off while you're playing, that'll help. Then, you might want to think about getting more RAM or a better graphics card. But if you're on a budget (as most people are) then I'd try playing on someone else's computer just to see/feel the difference in game play. Nothing makes you want to upgrade your technology faster than when you witness/experience the improvement first hand. (an expensive prospect!) Though, I'm sure a passable gaming worthy computer, home assembled, is doable for most of us.

solving rockets "there not zombies" problem and other suggestions
JeffDetroit replied to dakenho's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Good points. I always felt that, in the traditional sense of "zombies" and to make the game more "zombie apocalypse" relevant, the zombies should: 1) always require a headshot to be "immobilized"; 2) turn the survivor into an AI zombie upon a "bite or scratch". The game is about survival and the stakes should feel very high. But after playing the game enough, the zombies presently seem more of a pest than a threat. But if a survivor knew that a "zombie strike" - even one, meant inevitable "zombification" - then that would definitely make even the most seasoned players a bit more hesitant to go on "speed looting sprees" and bring the game back to its core: zombies. The overwhelming PvP would be less "shoot on sight" because of the greater threat of a zombie bite/scratch. Zombies also should not always be audible. If you weren't always "tipped off" by a zombie moan/growl in the area, then the fright/threat level automatically would rise. So, basically turning off some of the zombie moans, and making a zombie strike "fatal" would really bring this game back to it's core intention: Zombie Survival. -
DayZ Novel promotion - What Prizes Would You Want To Win?
JeffDetroit replied to chernojourno's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Grand prize, a personal "in the field" Cherno Journo interview with gifted load-out and vehicles to use for the day. Or how about your own personalized "skin" perhaps of your actual face to use on selected skin-friendly servers. This way, you can avoid having to mail out physical items. -
After re-keybinding movement to the Number-Pad (which makes plenty of sense) I was considering a different mouse to use (but all of the "gaming" mice are made for holding in the right hand (to press the teeny-thumb buttons)) - and are shaped for the right hand. I'll stick to the symmetical Logitech mouse which doesn't play favorites (Logitech MX Anywhere mouse) and call it a day. Don't even talk to me about the characters holding the weapons "right handed" - I'll just have to suspend my disbelief a little more.

http://flic.kr/p/ecnV3G I think a treadmill linked with the DayZ survivor would make for a very realistic game...

I'm a lefty and I am using Track IR 5 and a Logitech MX Anywhere mouse. The Track IR is of course for all my "free-look" head movements, and the 3 buttons on the Logitech Mouse are programmed for "Reload, Gear and Vault" The Track IR (which is fantastic by the way - check out the video for Track IR Amra/DayZ on You Tube) makes all of the keys on the "number pad" available for me to use for character movement. 8=Walk; 5=Back; 4/6=Strafe Left/Right; 7/9=Roll Left/Right; 1/2/3=Prone/Crouch/Stand; 0=Walk/Run toggle; Enter(numpad)=1st/3rd Person For a lefty, the numberpad has a very clear layout, plus the keys aren't staggered like others that use IJKL or other combos. The Logitech MX Anywhere mouse has a center button (below the scroll wheel) which is great for "V" vault; and the scroll-wheel itself has a side-to-side movement as 2 buttons. Push the wheel to the left and it clicks the "G" Gear key; Push to the right and it clicks the "R" Reload key. Sure, there's some mice that have 6-20 programmable buttons on them - but I think it gets a tad confusing beyond a few (on the mouse) - and besides, those are set up for right handed people! The Track IR 5 rocks! It is so natural to just turn your head and look around in the game. And the looking is incremental, not just left/right/up/down - it moves as your head moves. Really neat. Now all I need are footpedals for "Eat Beans" and "Fart" and I'll be all set.

Give a reason to play on night servers?
JeffDetroit replied to 97ADU Doug's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I prefer the night games when I want to increase the terror level. There is something very eerie about stumbling around in the dark, newly spawned with absolutely nothing in your gear, hearing a moaning zombie, and not sure if you are going to walk right into it. Taking away that terror by turning up the gamma, or using night vision glasses robs you of that element of terror. If you're changing the "physical world" of the game then are you really playing the game? For me, this is survival, and if you're in the dark with a flashlight, well, then you have to weigh your chances of using a flashlight and drawing fire from other survivors against being able to navigate (and loot) effectively. The daylight game gives you the other side of DayZ, where you're sneaking around both zombies and players who can better see you. To each their own choice, but I like the horror effect of the game. Yesterday I was playing a night game before work and I spawned on the coast near Cherno with only a flashlight. There were others on the server so I decided to light up the flashlight and if some jerk wanted to shoot me down so be it. Well, it turned out that the flashlight worked as a survivor beacon and soon I had a buddy to go looting with. Holding the flashlight without a primary weapon on your shoulder shows folks that you're a new spawn and no threat (and no loot). It was a good session. -

Where do you think is the best hidden place to set a tent?
JeffDetroit replied to Absmoke's topic in New Player Discussion
I haven't really acquired enough gear to make storage in a tent necessary, but I did find that walking into the deep water at Topolka Dam puts you in a "hidden" dry area for tent pitching. I like the advice someone gave earlier about putting a "throw away vehicle" near their real tent/heli spot so the looters are satisfied with what they think is the only loot and go away. I can see how folks could pitch a tent "under the water" at Topolka Dam, put in a few tin cans to make it look like it's been looted (good loot taken, cans left) while the motherlode tent of goodness is hidden up river a ways. -

RTorbs: "Toilet roll in your pockets..." You know, if you throw the toilet roll hard enough at the zombie's head, it is a one shot kill!

DayZ - TrackIR 5 demonstration/Instructional tutorial
JeffDetroit replied to guyver1's topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
Ordered the Track IR 5 with Pro after seeing a couple of videos of folks using it. The incremental real-time head movement synced viewing is a no-brainer for added realism in the DayZ game. Ultimately you'd be on a holo-deck (ala' Star Trek) so why not get as close to it as you can by incorporating head-movement with... head movement! As a left handed player, I also welcome freeing up some of the extra keys to be pressed - re-binding the keypad at the right for movement (as it is no longer needed for head turning!) For additional realism, I let meat rot in my garage for a couple of weeks and then set it on my lap while playing. The smell gives me the "zombie scent" realism.
