Ten Reasons why Kill on Sight is 'Realistic'

    1) Supplies are literally flowing out of the empty air in Day Z 2) Nobody's "bitten" in Day Z, and you don't have to use medical supplies on others' injuries if you don't want to. 4) Is just a rephrasing of 3 or 5 5) The same inherent motivation as 3; you're afraid because you don't know if you can trust. 6) The only disease in Day Z is an obvious one that immediately manifests symptoms, and it can't infect you if your body temperature isn't in the tank 7) Really, the same thing as 3 and 5. Out of your mind with fear is still afraid. 8) You, personally, shoot every single person on sight because "bandit packs happen"? That doesn't make much sense. 9) This is just sexist bullshit. I'm not touching it. 10) Shooting someone doesn't "deny the area". It kills them. The area is still just as vulnerable, it's still just as easy for someone to sneak in while you sleep or just by going somewhere you aren't looking, and now you've advertised your presence and probably pissed off zombies. So none of these arguments work for Day Z, because Day Z isn't realistic. It's a game. This brings up the question of why you're posting this in the Day Z Discussion forum instead of Off Topic, but waving that aside, this is still a crappy argument. These points suck for Day Z because Day Z isn't realistic, and they suck for real life because in real life, humans are psychologically limited beings with a strong negative reaction to any murder they can't completely justify, and often even to those. Trained soldiers walk away with PTSD that can affect them for the rest of their lives, and they have social support from their fellows and their organization. A very small percentage of humans have neurological disorders that allow them to transgress this basic moral compass with significantly less psychological shock, but they're generally not running their mouths on internet forums about how THEY would TOTALLY kill everyone they saw in a zombie apocalypse. Plus, lets face it, if you shot everyone you met OP, you'd die in your sleep about a week in to the apocalypse, if you were lucky enough to get that far. Not the general universal you, the specific ad-hominem you who is actually making this thread.
  2. So true. I really thought people who frequently use the internet would be better educated by this point. Then again, I thought a lot of things that time and the internet proved wrong.

    Debug Plains

You want to ask if there's a way to come back to life after being murdered? Or are you just looking for a way to supernaturally abduct all of your items from someone who killed you? If you want your items back, either try to track down and murder the guy who killed you, or start looting for replacements.

    NW Airfield

This is pointless because it's a meaningless story about a boring (and, by the way, stupid) activity that a thousand other players have also probably done this week. If we got a forum post every time a newb died, we'd never get to discuss anything.

    Car Binding System Discussion

I'll take "no" for 200 dollars, Bob!
  6. We know. Rocket knows. Everyone knows. Complaining more isn't going to do anything. We already know.

    Why bash Eve-Online players?

You do realize that since this is an Alpha test, having large quantities of exploit savvy players searching for ways to break your game is a desirable thing, right?
  8. Or, you know, people are taking your things.

    I have a question

How about you wait? Just don't play the game like DCing is a tactical option. Stuck in a corner with no possible place you can go? Then don't go anywhere. Out of bullets and no way to fight zombies? Then don't fight zombies. Just play the game, have fun, and wind up dying every once and a while; it's part of the experience.
  10. I walked up to it, mousewheeled down to the save tent option, and selected it. If your saved tent vanishes after a server restart, restart the server again and it will pop back up.
  11. This is a good thread, but I just have to nitpick the title. Exponential growth can be depressingly slow as much as excitingly quick.

Couple of questions regarding the mod

You don't "de-spawn" loot by logging in. I'm sick of hearing people say this; I lived in a house on the coast for a week once, and I logged in to loot in my home all the time, sometimes even right under my feet. What you in fact do is fail to spawn any additional loot on spawn, so if nobody has triggered loot to spawn there (or the person who did looted it dry), there will be nothing there. If loot de-spawned on join, people wouldn't be repeatedly hopping the NWAF Barracks, would they?

12000 blood - what unit is that?

It's an imaginary unit equal to ((total amount of blood in a healthy human - blood level a healthy human dies)/12000).
  14. They can be found anywhere. They're a generic residential loot spawn with a very low chance.
  15. Server Administrators tend to be linked to Server Owners, who can reset servers whenever they feel like. Good find, OP. This is something that needs to be brought into the public eye.

    Freeside Trading Co.

I keep getting the Simple Machines Forum view; is there a way to switch to a view that includes graphics and spacing?

    DMR Kills (Short Range)

You shot a bunch of motionless survivors at a distance so low you probably didn't even need to scope. What does this show? Also your name is unoriginal and makes you look prepubescent.

    Will server swapping be removed?

It's really not an issue actually.. Look at Eve Online. It's one single persistent world/universe. Just takes a lot of servers linked or something.. I honestly don't know how its done but they do it XD So you want to take 90,000+ players and cram them into a single map the size of Cheranus, and your solution to the inevitable horrifying unending overcrowded bloodbath that will instantaneously erupt is "linking servers or something". Did you not read the part where he says this only works for EVE because it spans galaxies, or did you just decide to pretend it wasn't an issue?

    Zombie aggro; ninja patched?

Don't like aggro? Be more careful. I'm sneaking through populated towns with no issues.

Emissions - forces players indoors every few hours

What's to stop people from just logging when the blast comes? This sort of sudden artificial impetus doesn't seem in-keeping with Day Z's style.

    "Hey, I know you!"

Was a great idea when I first read it, and is still a great idea now.
  23. If you can copy the folder from one local copy of ArmA II to another, does that mean you can run the high quality textures without purchasing the content?
