Interesting and informative guide, OP. This answers many questions I've had about the loot spawn mechanics, and gives hard numbers to distances I had only approximated in theory. I don't plan to use this much, but I do find it fascinating. Thanks for posting. -

DayZDB has weapon damage info and other extra data, but DayZMap has the ability to search loot tables for items. I use the former for most of my map needs and the latter when I'm trying to track down something specific. -

Thanks for posting. It's great to see rocket's stances on some of these questions. Especially like the part about underground bases; I've wanted to see long, dark underground tunnels in Day Z for a while now ^.^ -
According to the info on DayZ DB, which seems to be ripped directly from the game code, the weapons which three-shot zombies are listed as doing 5 damage while the weapons that one-shot them are listed as doing 9. Does anyone know enough about how weapon damage is calculated to shed some light on this discrepancy or debunk these numbers if incorrect? I've been trying to figure out some of the finer points of Day Z damage mechanics for quite a while now.

Hatchet is overpowered but necessary

Hatchets are crazy OP outside of PvP, and they're crazy OP all the time if you roll with a group. Soon, rocket will implement persistent ammo counts, forcing players to manage their ammunition use carefully and making every zombie fight a costly one. Unless they have a hatchet, then they're laughing their infinite ammo count all the way to the supermarket. It's as silent as a rare SD gun with rare SD ammo, a one-hit kill on zombies (unlike those SD guns), more common than a Lee Enfield, and its only downside is that you need to be relatively close (not even that close, really) to use it. I have snipers on overwatch and an M1911 in my belt for other players. The hatchet does everything I need in a weapon for no cost at all. As for what we'd do without it, probably the same thing I did before I found how crazy it was: sneak a bunch or lose zombies in buildings. -

Excellent post OP; your English is better than the majority of the threads I have read on these forums, and your capacity to adequately explain yourself in it is something we rarely witness here. I agree that this is an issue that needs to be addressed. I don't think these issues only pertain to realism though; I feel they are applicable directly to the ability of Day Z to provide opportunities for emergent gameplay. I don't know how these problems could be appropriately addressed, and I don't believe your tentative suggestions of reduced stamina or difficulty aiming will solve the issue in a fitting way; I do, however, have a clear awareness of what needs to be done and why. That's a good start. Sigging over current link. -
Packed and squished tents reappearing on server restart

Bumping this topic instead of creating a new thread. I've been trying to set up a tent in a nice secluded grove on NY14. When I logged back in the next day, every single place I had set up my tent and subsequently packed it again due to poor positioning now had a tent in it. All tents belonged to me, and the lack of ways to permanently remove this massive tent cluster pretty much blew any chance of setting up a discrete camp in that part of the map. Would like to see an option to "delete tent", even if only available to the owner of the tent, implemented if a solution turns out to be time-consuming. -
I can't believe he couldn't catch you; it should be a simple matter of cutting the corners off of your turns to close that distance in minute at most.

Sniping and female characters

Female characters are naturally more trustworthy than male ones, because they can't wear Ghillie Suits. Picking female means you don't plan to spend a lot of time camped out in a bush with a sniper rifle, and that's a step up in my book. -
I had an issue running this above 30fps three builds ago, and I had my settings turned down with a GTX 560 ti and 3.2 GHz i7 chugging away. I don't think any laptop is going to cut this. Not any reasonable one, anyway.

Swapping weapons from backpack?

I don't really know what the right way to swap weapons is; I've had trouble with both ways. If there's a corpse or loot pile around, I'd probably try to use that. -
The only person you have to justify your gameplay to is yourself. That and Battleye.
