  1. I'm actually one who played quite a bit of BF3, but I love DayZ. Really, there's not a fair way to say what gamers will like and won't like without stereotyping based on the games they play.
  2. You. I like you. This is precisely what I want this game to be. Kudos.
  3. Protip: Those didn't spawn there. :D
  4. The problem is not that there aren't holy grail ideas, the problem is that the DayZ Dev team can't try every idea ever. Not only that, they're walking on eggshells so they don't piss off one of the two sides people are on. They don't want to explicitly nerf banditry, but at the same time, they don't want to explicitly buff non-bandits. I think they're currently feeling around for a more natural solution (if they feel they even need to find a solution) and are trying things out. I don't think they want another bandit skin which was a direct detraction.
  5. I honestly think they should just completely remove some of the really high tier weapons and equipment, including NVGs, assault rifles with any kind of scope or silencer, high tiered snipers, etc. Then make the lower tiered weapons spawn much, much less. There's no need to have such a huge variety of weapons, at least not in my opinion.
  6. Fixed that for you! (Seriously though, if you don't want a prepackaged response, don't give me one to start with. Maybe then some actual discussion can occur instead of the typical 'one side who hates these things vs the other side who hates the opposite' bullshit).
  7. I don't know. I'm slowly losing faith in the community of this game. I was playing on a server last night, I think it was US #500 [uTC -4], and it was night time. I was playing with a two other people. We all coordinated a place to meet, and, through a lot of trial and error, we finally all got there (after about 3 hours of hassle with Steam auto updating Arma and all) and started playing. After fifteen minutes of making our way slowly from the Cherno barn to the Cherno Firestation, we were slowly making our way to the grocery store nearby. We were in the middle of a field, when suddenly, we were all dropped by people in the dark. I'm thinking it was probably two guys, maybe three, based on how two of us were killed at almost the same time and one of us was in the dark. This was so fucking frustrating for us! We spent all that time trying to play and having it not work, then, when we finally do get it to work, we get killed off immediately. The worst part is, I'm pretty sure one, if not all of them had NVGs, which just pissed me off more because, what? You find NVGs then head to the shore to kill lower "level" players? That's so unfair and overpowered, and not to mention fucked up. That's like picking on someone smaller than you because the people at the same size are harder... I could be wrong about the NVG part, though, but they were apparently still shooting at one of my friends even in the pitch darkness, so who knows. I guess what really pisses me off about this is that we were completely vulnerable and we didn't even know they were there. Our vulnerability was so obvious that I was actually thinking that people might show mercy if they saw us, thinking "Heh, look at those guys over there. They're such easy targets. Hell, they all even have their flashlights out. What's the point?". But no, that's not what happened. They could have easily passed us by with the cover of night, but they chose the PVP route because that's what this community's become. OP, I love your suggestions and I think PvE is the one of the only ways to get people to not just shoot on sight. I also think if there were some form of incentive to not engage in combat and generally some form of self preservation, things might look up. That said, based on how many people think it's edgy to be a bandit and support banditry (I actually really love the bandits, just not the 12 year old mentality of "This is something that's exploitable so I'm going to exploit it whether you like it or not! Nah nah nah nah boo boo!"), I'm not sure these changes would go over well. Rocket and company, you've made a fantastic mod and experience, I honestly commend you guys for that, and I hope the mod continues to thrive, but... I'm just not sure how long this game will continue to keep my appeal with this constant state of unrealistic PvP (and yes, I said unrealistic, naysayers. Do you honestly think people would put themselves in danger of permanently losing the one life they have as much as the people who play this game do? Not a chance. There's a reason why you see stalemate scenarios in real life where people point guns at each other but no one actually shoots, and there's a reason why you'd never see that in DayZ; there's hardly any real fear of death, or even a real reason to fear it. You just come back and it's as simple and easy as that). I really hope you guys are able to find a workaround, and maybe implementing some of these ideas will help you get there. Good luck.

    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2

Rocket, what's the status on a Single Player version of DayZ? Personally, I just want it so I don't always have to deal with people. I feel like I'd be incredibly immersed in a world where I'd honest to god feel lonely.

    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2

Alright everyone, hear me out. Don't call me crazy, 'cause I know you want to. Rocket, would it be possible to reduce the likelihood of weapons and ammo being spawned (excluding crowbars and fireaxes)? I feel like it could detract from all the banditry, and really, how many weapons would you actually find in this kind of scenario? A problem that's initially pretty obvious to me, of course, is gun collectors; People who'll kill others for their weapon because it's better. I don't know, though, it might be worth a shot. Guns don't feel scarce enough for me, aside from the really, really good stuff. Anyway, looking forward to the potential performance boost. Hopefully I'll actually breach the 20 FPS threshold! :D
  11. I'm not sure Rocket entirely cares about the growth of DayZ, at least not to the extent where he would stop an update to realism because people say they'll leave. Also, it's not making people conform to how they want to play, it's making them conform to realism, which is what this mod is aiming for.
  12. Everyone cries realism until something unrealistic gets taken away. Sure.
  13. Was this in reply to me or weedmasta? If it was to me, I realize it's not perfect, but it's something that could be tried and tested.

    Pending Hotfix: Build 1.7.1.5

+1 Great idea. Oh god please no! This mod is about having the freedom to do what you want and what you think is necessary to survive. I don't want to be forced to team up. I get where you're coming from and I agree, but in real life, if you were surviving on your own, out in the wilderness, during a zed apocalypse... you'd get paranoid and hear things. If you have even just a single person with you, you'd be much less paranoid for pretty simple reasons. First and foremost, you'd be able to relay to a friend that you thought you heard something and see if they heard it to. That in itself I think would reduce paranoia a lot. Next, if you really did hear something, you know that your friend will have your back if you're in trouble, AKA not on your own to die alone. If done subtly, like the Bandit/Heartbeat thing, it could work. Don't dismiss it immediately.

Or maybe even hearing gunshots! That'd be so fucked! I like it.
  16. I think they're trying to make it as balanced as they can without unnaturally tipping the favor to one side. This is pretty clear when looking at the scenario with the Bandit skin. In my opinion, and I've said this several times now throughout this forum (but it's never been addressed so damn me for trying), the best incentive we have as living, breathing beings.. is death. If we could find some way to simulate death, or the annoyance of death snyway (aside from just losing loot), I think it'd deter players from all sides to just shoot on sight.. at least, if it were done correctly. My initial idea was, if you die, you can't play on the server your death occurred on for a certain amount of time (IE 24 hours), then on top of that, you can't play in any other server for.. I dunno, 20 minutes or something. I feel like that would really deter people from just banditing! Perhaps it'd just need to be tried out first, but really, death binds us all together, and without death, we'd be free to do almost anything and everything. Take that freedom away and you have some grasp of control.

    Pending Hotfix: Build 1.7.1.5

Is this patch still going to require more stealth in larger towns than 1.7 and below, or is it back to being able to crouch sprint through Cherno without caution? (This sound facetious, but I swear I'm not trying to be.) If it's more forgiving, but still more necessary than before, I'll really like that, but if it's just a revert, I'll be pretty sad. Some of the most intense scenarios I've ever had in this game have been crawling prone through Cherno with nothing but a revolver, rolling across roads. It felt so much more legit and I'd hate to see it go. EDIT: Just want to say thanks, Rocket. I've only been playing for a few weeks now, but I love the constant updates, even if there are some bugs. You rock (it).
  18. God dammit, it seems the general consensus is that no one likes the stealth. Fuck... I love it. It took me an hour to get from the docks of Cherno to the Military Hospital towards the back! I love that! In real life, you wouldn't be able to be as reckless in a city like Cherno as you could be in previous patches. The amount of Zombies and the amount of risks you'd take even taking a misstep would be enough incentive. I think what it's at now is good enough, or at the very least somewhere in between this patch and 1.7 is. Either way, it'll probably get nerfed, but what I'm really hoping for is zombie mechanic buffing to make stealth almost entirely necessary.
  19. No one, not even you, has the right to say people aren't allowed to voice their opinions. I'm offering my feedback on the direction that the game is headed. If my feedback isn't wanted, then so be it, but what you're saying is that I shouldn't be allowed to have this mod installed on my computer if my opinion is different than yours. That's the stupid thing I've heard regarding this whole ordeal. You hate to be that guy? There's a reason for that. And In regards to Rocket "trying it out", I am under the very clear impression that things are only supposed to become more like this in the future. I hardly ever see a post by him. The twitter feed is completely silent in regards to the backlash from the community regarding this patch. I have no reason to believe that the problems I have with the game will ever be fixed unless I make it known that I'm displeased, and provide the reasons why I'm displeased. I didn't say you're not allowed to speak your opinion. I'm sorry if that's how it came off. What I'm criticizing is how you say you're going to be "done with this game for good" if it doesn't go well for you, and the reason I criticize that is because it doesn't sound like you understand the alpha, beta and full release process. This game will change and evolve over time, and I'm sick of people acting like it won't if it doesn't change this second. Maybe you didn't really mean it when you said you'd leave "for good", but that's how you came off. About Rocket hardly posting, what I recommend you do is go to his forum profile and look at his recent posts. You can follow what he says easier and more frequently that way. I was reading it just a few minutes ago, and I saw this post: While I thank you for the idea of checking his forum page, what he's posted still doesn't quell my thoughts much. I still do not like the way the game is headed, and the only new thing I know is that he isn't listening to the community in this regard at all, and he's just going to do whatever he wants eventually. He has the right to do that, but that doesn't mean it's a good thing to do. And when I said "done" I meant for this patch, at least. I'll try the next patch, and maybe the one after that, but know I won't keep blind faith forever either. If things keep going South, I'll quit for good, because right now, in four hours of playing 1.7.1, I have not found a single gun. Some of this surely has to do with my skill level, but that needs to be taken into account. If new players hate your game, your going to have a hard time keeping a community. The biggest thing the devs need to keep in mind, is that this game REALLY sucks if you're not doing well. In Battlefield, I can go negative and still have fun. In Tribes, I can go negative and still have fun. In League of Legends, I can go negative and still have fun. In DayZ, if I get killed fifteen minutes after spawn, that is NEVER fun. With the way the system currently rewards players who are already ahead, this is a recipe for disaster, and I think this needs to be addressed in some way. Well, if you don't like it, obviously there's nothing I can do to change that. However, I think it's worth mentioning that DayZ is supposed to be a simulator, more or less, and fun isn't guaranteed. This game doesn't seem to be "marketed" towards people who can't handle that. I understand your frustration with how it's going, but keep an eye on it. It might turn into something pretty awesome.

  21. It shouldn't be anything that serious, really. Maybe a 24 hour timeout from that server, then 15-20 minutes timeout from the game in general? I think that'd be nice. Something to simulate death would hopefully keep the assholes at bay.

Hands up if the game is too Easy.

Did they severely nerf the Zed aggro? I was enjoying really having to be sneaky... is that not necessary anymore?
