As a new player, This mod is so difficult its un-playable.
RJLupin2 replied to HamHamm's topic in New Player Discussion
Because it takes Bandit's focus off of killing everyone they see and on surviving. Normal every day people also wouldn't be walking around in the Zed apocalypse with some sort of protection and food and water. And yet right now' date=' you spawn with no protection, no food and water, yet somehow have medical supplies. Pretty unrealistic if you ask me. [/quote'] Yes, I know how you feel already (I've seen many of your posts around the forums already). I agree that there should be some form of weapon available, but not having one is fun. Really, it is. Try being slow and cautious. Fantastic. I feel like melee weapons probably aren't possible. -

Perhaps the solution to this would be to have 'Beginner' servers. Anyone agree? I love this patch so much, but all I see is people hating on it. If it hasn't been said already, this is supposed to be a simulation, more or less. Normal everyday people don't have a pistol lying around, and most likely wouldn't in a Zed Apocalypse. My solution to the current difficulty is people should just keep playing it to get better. Stealth would be a MUST in a Zed Apoc. and you wouldn't realistically be able to run through a town anyway. Because it takes Bandit's focus off of killing everyone they see and on surviving. -

70% of my survivor interaction has been shoot me on sight. The other %30 is mixed with you leave me alone and I leave you alone, and me shooting them. I remember pretty recently there was a guy in Mogilevka when I connected. I heard him shooting and sat in a bush for a while, but later decided I should investigate even though it was obvious he had some powerful firepower and all I had was a Makarov. I shadowed around the buildings, checking the typical loot spots, keeping an eye out. I eventually decided he'd probably left, so I started looting myself (of course, keeping my guard up and eyes peeled). Hit one building, nothing. Hit another, nothing. Hit a third, a zombie followed me in, I was forced to fire. After I fired, I knew the survivor probably heard the shot if he was still nearby, so I stuck to the windows to peer outside. Before I could even say, "Is anyone in Cherno? :D" he appeared, coming to investigate. I quickly went to Direct Communication so I could ask if friendly, but I got no response. I kept asking and got no response. So I ran around to get behind his path. I don't think he saw me then. He turned a corner, I turned the same corner... he was gone. Wat. Saw him down the road, chased him, he was gone again. Wat. Then I just assumed he got the hell out of there and that he had seen me. I was confused, but I figured he was probably not someone to be trifled with (Silenced M4A1), so I let him pass. Then I had to shoot again. Shit, he'd have definitely heard that. Knowing he'd come, I prepared a little this time and went to the top of a flight of stairs so I could have the jump on anyone who heard those shots and came to investigate. *pit-pat* Footsteps. I see him out the window, he hasn't seen me yet. I pull up my Makarov and took aim in case he saw me up the stairs. I didn't want to start anything if I didn't need to. He started to walk away... Phew. *pit-pat* He walks back into view ("dammit!"). He looks at all the zombies on the floor, then looks up at me. He starts moving around, like he's taking aim. Little did he know I already had my aim. *bam* He falls over in one shot to the head. He left the game, but I make out his name. I wasn't sure if he was a bandit or not. He never took a shot at me, and I didn't take a shot at him (until I felt like I didn't have a choice), so I felt bad looting his body. I decided I'd see if his Arma II name was the same as his Steam name. Sure enough it was. We talked for a minute to confirm he was who I thought he was, then I apologized for killing him and asked if he would have killed me. He then told me that his movement right before I shot was him trying to salute. I felt so bad. Anyway, this above is why I love this game. I know a lot of people aren't happy with the rampant banditing, and to be honest I'm not either, but this is a different scenario, imo. This is what player interaction SHOULD be like. Anyway, wall of various texts over. -
Rocket I love you: Going out of bounds - exploit or acceptable?

Rocket I love you: Going out of bounds - exploit or acceptable?
RJLupin2 replied to Publik's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
As has already been pointed out to you, people taking all the vehicles and leaving them x amount out of bounds is unfair. I haven't a single car in my entire 20+ hours of playing this game. In fact, I've only seen a bike, and I'm pretty sure someone had ridden to where I found it. The problem is the mentality, in my honest opinion. The action doesn't really bother me, and I honestly feel like it could provide very interesting moments, but people should try to understand how they could be potentially exploiting. What I think it really comes down to is what Rocket thinks on this subject. -

All I can think of after reading this thread is how annoyed I get at people who use unintentionally broken weapons in FPSs just because they can. Like the Frag rounds in Battlefield 3; they were broken, everyone knew it, everyone knew they were going to be patched away, everyone knew they were overpowered and game-breaking... yet people still used them because it's legal within the game's rules. It's kind of a "I have no reason to stop so why should I? Damn the other players" kind of attitude, in my opinion. All of that said, I have no strong opinion on this. I think it's an interesting feature to have wastelands above and to the right of the map, I just wish it wasn't so easily exploitable. -
Personally, a one-time purchase would be my favored method, along with Kickstarter as the... well.. kickstarter. My second preferred would be Free To Play with buyable items, but I really worry about how that could go. What might be cool is having many buyable survivor skins; if everyone looks different, that'd add a whole new level of realism. Either way, I think a lot of thought to ensure the core gameplay isn't changed much would be in order (obviously). All of that said, if I had one request, Rocket, it's that you continue to use an engine that old/low-end PCs can handle (entry level GPUs, low processors, etc.). I won't be able to play Arma III's DayZ for this precise reason.

Opinion on server hoppers? (JUSTICE)

Meh. It's not like they'll last long anyway. It becomes a problem when that's the only way they play, imo. -
20 words or less: Super-Low Humanity Detection
RJLupin2 replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've posted my ideas on this in three different threads today, so I'm going to try to refrain from doing it again. I think this is definitely worth a try, and is probably a good short term fix (maybe a long term fix if all goes well), but I think ultimately something painful is going to have to happen at death so everyone values the "life" they have before running into a crowd of survivors with a Makarov a popping off shots for the lulz, then dying and respawning just to do it again. Something that stings. -

YES Worth a try. Not the method I'd prefer. The change should try to incentivize players to be more cautious and not put themselves at risk as much. -
gtx 570, but only 15-20 fps. What to do?

^Thanks, Tyralion, I wouldn't have figured that out myself! It seems to be running a few frames smoother now that I've fixed the line. -
Bandit/Survivor Morphing to be removed
RJLupin2 replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Perhaps, but I think it'd be worth a trial run to see the effects anyway. I can honestly see both sides, I just feel there's no real way (in my creatively limited mind) to make it realistic if there isn't some sort of strong penalty for death. It's the driving force behind literally almost every thing we do, after all. -
Bandit/Survivor Morphing to be removed
RJLupin2 replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I mentioned this idea in another thread, and I'd like to bring it up here, but first I want to ask if it's been said before (which I'm sure it has.) The idea in question is what if there were a penalty for dying that would keep people from getting themselves in positions where all they do is murder/bandit? In reality, death is, as far as we know, final. If we all had unlimited lives in reality, what would prevent someone from killing as many people as they can before being offed themselves just to respawn a few minutes later and do it all over again? Morality? Nah. I think a heavy penalty for death in general would really separate the trolls from the real bandits. EDIT: Lol, and I think this idea is actually actively being discussed above. Ignore this post in that case. -
gtx 570, but only 15-20 fps. What to do?
RJLupin2 replied to Vincents's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I have a Geforce GT 520m, i5-2430m (I believe it's a dualcore, shoot me if I know), 6GBs Ram.. is 15-20 fps to be expected even with the above modifications to the .bat? I wasn't expecting much from my setup, but Arma single player runs at at least 30 fps on low settings. Also, if I should be getting more, is there a way to tell if I've correctly applied the above fix? It didn't seem to make a dent. -
Why? If you make death more of an inconvenience, there'll be less bandits. Simple. Death in real life, as far as we know, is permanent. If you were in an actual apocalypse, you wouldn't run at three people and try to kill them just because you want to make them rage. You would most likely be killed, and you can't respawn from that. That's not how things work. To eliminate the blatant advantages the bandits have and make it more realistic, I think this would be a wise feature to implement. Maybe it could just be a server option, but I have a feeling anyone who enjoys being able to meet other survivors would use it.

I think the best way to remedy the problem OP is having is to have more severe consequences for death. If you die, you can't play on the same server for an hour, maybe even a day, and you can't play DayZ at all for ten minutes. Thoughts? Counterarguments?
