It's not scumbag. It's a d-day simulator. When bambis make it past the coast, it will feel great to have survived a tough challenge. There's that rush: " I'm in, where am I...who cares...just get the hell out of here and then worry about it"

I want zombie dogs now. And poisonous snakes. -
Not now but after alpha is considered 'finished.' It's still not so great news, nobody should try to sugarcoat it, but it's not the end of the world either.
-
If you have skill, you shouldn't have any ruined gear unless there's a bug.
-
Kill someone and you get all his gear. That's also called surviving. People don't kill for points. They just want your can of beans. The survival aspect sets up the pvp. If it rains, you can't just hide outside in the woods. You have to go find shelter...but someone may be there ready to shoot you. You need stuff so you look for loot. But someone may be there to shoot you.

There is a challenge in building a real fire or butchering an animal or tying knots, etc but the problem is, there's no skill involved when you try to do it in game. It's just click and wait. Whereas if you wanted to shoot, you actually have to aim and make your shots count.

It's whatever you and everyone else wants it to be.

Why am I shooting the ground while prone?

It could be a bug but check this picture (dslyecxi) If the bore line is not clear (such as a mound or a branch), you won't hit the target even though your line of sight to target is clear because the lines are at different heights. You can see this in action http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEV56yd8gn0 around 43 minutes -
That means dayz's doing its job like it's supposed to. You'll be back :)

Which mod... You can play DayZ mod on quite a few maps

Concretely: what differs the pro from the noob?

You can follow the road but don't be seen on the road. Everyone watches the roads. Be off to the side...hopefully next to the road there are trees or you are behind defilade (such as in a long ditch). Usually the first thing you want to do is find the highest spot possible and walk along the side of it. Don't be on the very top of the hill but be a few meters below the crest. You should always be looking for all possible cover, near and far. The cover that is near you should be potential places to run towards if you are under fire. Cover that is far away from you may be possible places for bad guys to shoot you from. By focusing on cover, you will cut down on the scanning you'll have to do. -
DayZ will be over when there really is a zombie apocalypse and we'll have to worry about being killed for a real can of beans.

Rocket standing down from Dayz by end of year
haviv[3rdid] replied to Hetstaine's topic in General Discussion
I don't trust rocket to actually finish the game. For sure, there will never be a DayZ 2. And no, even if he stays until it is 'beta' doesn't mean that it will be complete. You can call anything you want 'beta.' That's why I feel the future of dayZ rests with community mods for ArmA. -
It's very easy to ruin dayZ though because it is not a kid's game. It can very easily turn into a PvE mmo with balancing mechanics and health packs. There are lots of people who are clamoring for that which is why there are lots of pve mmo's with balancing mechanics and health packs. DayZ is different because it's hard. You can say you're friendly and you'll get kos for being such a naive fool. That's the whole point!

Rocket standing down from Dayz by end of year
haviv[3rdid] replied to Hetstaine's topic in General Discussion
I don't trust the team. No, not after ArmA3 where lots of promises were made and the game was released even though it was incomplete. Lots of people paid for arma3 alpha and beta hoping that the 'final' release would actually be finished. If BIS had a better track record then it would be easier to trust them for dayz. -
See, what I would do is not actually kill him but tell my friend exactly where this guy was so that he could take a shot and I would act as if I tried to defend him. Even give him some of his gear back. That way he'd still trust me even if I kept setting him up over and over again.
-
It shouldn't be that you are clean shaven for 2 weeks and all of a sudden you're now part of Duck Dynasty. It needs to grow in gradually. Ah, see how this makes everything more complicated? oh and if you find a razor, you'd have to be able to shave.
-
It's not as if he has some special out of the ordinary perception. Anyone can see that there are problems in DayZ. They just want it to be completed and not end up like ArmA3, which was considered to be a final release even though it is still not finished. Relying on the mod community to finish the job may work for ArmA3 but not for standalone.

In DayZ: we're tough! We can take on zombies and bandits and drink infected blood for breakfast! In DayZ forums: oh noes! What will we ever do without Dean Hall. *cries* -
Calm the hell down about Dean allready....
haviv[3rdid] replied to crazykage's topic in General Discussion
No, you see that's where the problem lies. That's why they are concerned about Dean either leaving or continues to stay but just isn't motivated about working with DayZ/Bohemia anymore (most likely scenario). They fear it won't become anything in the future. If people want to pay for an alpha then they'd better like how it is now because there is no guarantee that there will ever be a final version. Otherwise don't buy it and if it doesn't come as what you hoped for, you didn't lose anything. -
