It's called 'join a clan.' That's how civilizations developed. People formed clans with people they could trust (usually family) and went to war with other clans. They didn't walk around looking for randoms calling out "Friendly???" If you didn't form a clan then you better have awesome skills because it is hard to survive solo.

Plus the fact that it's fun!

Are people playing DayZ like CoD/BF because..
haviv[3rdid] replied to Never's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Maybe you need to learn how to avoid snipers. Understand terrain. Don't run in straight lines. And always run thinking that someone can kill you at any time if you're not careful. -
hmm but we can even have Predator in ArmA2 http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=12695

Poll: DayZ or The War Z?

How can a game that doesn't exist yet claim it has fewer bugs? Show me, don't tell me. -
Every kill in DayZ is fair

So they are noobs. But they will get target practice from it and become better players in the end while everyone else is running around for hours and they will not know how to shoot when they have to. -

I think there should be mil stuff lying around (after all, there are military bases and zombies) but the weapons should be Russian and none of the fancy Navy seal stuff. -
Why should I be playing this mod furthermore..

Be Genghis Khan and lead a band of men to conquer and control the entire island. -
There's Ireland for ArmA2 and it looks awesome http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=16435

Solo is supposed to be hard. That's why people decided to band together and came up with civilization. On the other hand, they didn't do that by walking to randoms and shouting "Friendly???" People only banded together with people they already knew such as friends and extended family and went to war against other tribes.

Dayz Standalone, Do arma 2 players need to pay again?
haviv[3rdid] replied to PC. (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It seems contradictory at first glance. But when you get ArmA3, you get the capability for someone to create a mod that may be more amazing than dayZ. But if you get dayZ standalone, that's all you get. No mods so if it sucks then you're stuck. -
Post food you would like to see in DayZ

Wolves, bears, anything dangerous to hunt for food. -
Why are people getting satisfied over killing people with nothing on them ?
haviv[3rdid] replied to MrTamarian's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's just a game. Don't take it too seriously and maybe you'll have fun getting him back. It's like you never soaked someone with a water gun or threw snowballs when you were a kid. -
Zombies? What zombies? This is pure PvP.

This is DayZ. This is YOUR story. Understand this, please. -
About time ArmA2 had good pvp instead of co-op, co-op, co-op and some people want to take that away.

The Bandit Dilemma: An Inner Look at the Economics and Psychology of Banditry and the Inevitable Collapse of Day Z
haviv[3rdid] replied to Chiefmon's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The problem is that death in the game isn't taken too seriously. Just respawn and play again! But if you knew that if you make a dumb mistake, you won't be able to play for, say 30 minutes, you probably wouldn't make that dumb mistake because you'd really fear for your 'life'. (Of course, this should only apply to people who have played for quite a while) I've played games in ArmA2 where being killed meant you were out for the rest of the night and once you go through that, you become extra careful and nervous. -
Incentive not to kill other players, limited loot.

1% are those who bought ArmA2 just to play ArmA2 (i.e. real military types) -

You'd expect a zombie apoc would result in lots of crazy people and most players seem like they want to assume that role. Most of the nice people would be killed by the crazy psychopaths and it is time for the tough, badass hero to take a stand and KILL the bloody bastards. But the game itself shouldn't take a stand. -
What about someone from Colorado with bachelor's degree in neuroscience?

Pvp, PvE, DM and so forth...........

hmm this map has been out since 2009. Many people know where every single shrub is on this map. And if you are new to ArmA2, you can catch up by loading up the map in editor and come up with your own risk free training scenarios. -
Here's why I'm against melee. If you want to shoot then you need to aim and hit the right spot for a kill. You need to practice to get good. But if you want melee you just face the guy and press a button? No skill whatsoever! Now, if you had to slash and parry with something like a wii controller, then I would be for it.

PC World "ArmA II DayZ Mod Has Me Rethinking Games"
haviv[3rdid] posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
http://www.pcworld.com/article/258765/arma_ii_dayz_mod_has_me_rethinking_games.html From the article: "Hardcore military shooters aren’t really my thing. I enjoy a challenge in games, but I don’t get the love for spending an hour crawling through the hills looking for an enemy sniper, only to get shot and end up doing it all over again. That isn’t something that I find enjoyable. That’s the main reason that I was skeptical when I heard all the hype surrounding the Arma II mod, DayZ. Despite my disdain for the style of play, I found myself engrossed in the nothingness surrounding me. Just hearing about DayZ isn’t going to get you excited for it. In fact, it’ll probably turn you off. It doesn’t sound fun and there’s really nothing that exciting that you can gather from the description. It just sounds like another hardcore PC mod that only hardcore PC players can enjoy. As it turns out, that’s the furthest from the truth. ..." -
