  1. Even with Gamebooster turning off services, my graphics card control set to maximum performance/minimum quality, and the in game graphics to their "very low" settings, Day Z runs for a few seconds, then slows into a speed that is literally "seconds per frame" instead of "frames per second". (Oddly, if I exit the program and then go back in, I get the "recieving" screen, and buy myself just a few more seconds of normal speed.) My computer's about 2 years old, not state of the art, but it's perfectly respectable, especially for a 2-3 year old game like ARMA. I've run Fallout 3 and Skyrim for dozens of hours at very high graphics settings, no problem. Here's my system- Alienware M17 laptop Intel Dual Core 2.6 GHz 4 Ghz DDR2 ram ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3870 x2 Here's what I've tried Reloading Arma II and OA Ensuring the latest beta patch is installed Running ARMA II OA "vanilla" (problem persists, it's not just a Day z thing) Defragging my hard drive re-verifying the file integrity with Steam using every startup parameter that seems like it might help. Currently, I've tried the following, in different combinations and all at once- -winxp, -maxmem=2047, -maxVRAM=2047, -CPUcount=2, -exthreads=2 I've cleaned out my computer's fan vents, etc. I know of no @#$! reason why my machine should not be able to run this program. But at this point, I've already spent so much time futzing with it, it's gonna hurt my pride if I can't get it working. Anyone out there have a suggestion?

Can't run Day Z, constantly freezing up

Could be, I guess. It definitely gets worse as I'm approaching zombies, buildings, etc. As for my graphics card, well, Sentinel might be on to something, because I HAVE played Day Z for hours at a time with no significant hiccups. Then, this last week, it's gone to Hell no matter what I do. Sure, my card is behind the curve, but like I said before, so is Arma II, and I can run graphics intensive stuff like Fallout NV and Skyrim on pretty high settings, no problem. Between "time to get a new gfx card" and "maybe the latest build is hosing me", I suspect the latter.

Can't run Day Z, constantly freezing up

I've tried those things, but thanks for throwing it out there. This is a desktop replacement laptop that I've been using for a couple of years. It's really quite good, I've rarely had reason to notice that it IS a laptop and not a desktop. I notice it when I'm carrying it through an airport, it weighs a freak'in ton... Anyway, yeah, I've been playing current, high end games with the graphics dialed up. If not at top notch, certainly respectable. I don't know of any reason why my machine should'nt be able to handle ARMA II.

Can't run Day Z, constantly freezing up

Very constructive, I'll get right on it. Anyone else?
  6. I see a lot of posts about low FPS, but what I'm talking about is the game dropping to- literally- "seconds per frame" Until a couple of days ago this was hit or miss, now it does it all the time. When I did have it running, I played it on normal graphics settings just fine. My computers a couple of years old, but has reasonable specs. I've tried the following, even the stuff I didn't think would help, just so I could say I did it (running V 1.7)- Verified cache in steam. Set all graphics settings as low as possible. Logged on to multiple servers. Downloaded the single player hack, and tried it that way. Restarted the computer. Run GameBooster. Defragged my hard drive. uninstalled and reinstalled the games. I feel like I'm doing a rain dance. If the problem clears, I have no way to know if it was anything I did, or just blind luck. I KNOW this is an alpha/work in progress, and I KNOW there are a lot of threads about low FPS. Does anyone know of a good fix or workarould for this problem?

Day Z all but frozen, unplayable

BL1P, thanks for the thorough reply. Believe it or not, I've actually done pretty much everything you recommend already. Bottom line is, getting this to work properly is hit and miss at best. I'm throwing in the towel. I've tried everything I can think of. Life's too short, there are other games to play. Maybe when this is in a more finished state I'll have another look.

Day Z all but frozen, unplayable

No, I'm using Steam versions. Fair question, but I haven't pirated since my Commodore 64 days, decades ago. Not sure what I'd need to do with my video card. It's an ATI Mobility model, not really cutting edge, but respectable. I just did a clean install of Arma II and OA, and I'm still having the problem on OA or Combined Ops, with NO Day Z content installed. Guess I'll go have a look on those forums and see what I can come up with. As for the -WinXP fix, I've got a list of the statements I can use and what they do, but I haven't gotten that far yet. I literally can't remember the last time I spent so much effort futzing with a game to get it to work.

Day Z all but frozen, unplayable

It was' date=' for a week or two. Arma 2 and Day Z both were playable. It turned into a "sometimes yes, sometimes no" thing, until a couple of days ago it became all the time. I don't have problems with things like Fallout or Skyrim, so I know my card's working. How do I ensure it's playing well with Arma? [hr']

Day Z all but frozen, unplayable

Alienware M17 Microsoft Windows 7 64 bit Intel Core2 Duo CPU T9500 @ 2.60GHz, 2600 Mhz, 2 Core BIOS Version/Date Intel W841.B14, 3/4/2009 Physical Memory 4.00 GB Available Physical Memory 2.68 GB Total Virtual Memory 7.99 GB Available Virtual Memory 6.25 GB Page File Space 3.99 GB Graphics card- ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3870 x2 This is a laptop that's a couple of years old. But it's a pretty beefy desktop replacement model. I was running this program pretty well for a week or two, with only occasional problems, so I don't think my hardware is to blame. But here are all (I think) the relevant specs.

    Unable to move

I've fixed the "deleted.chernarus" thing by reinstalling the dayz.rar files in the addon folder. Some things, like the beta patch and Steam "verifying files" procedure, seem to mess with the mod, not sure why.
