This past Saturday, twelve to fifteen members of Shadow of Humanity spontaneously decided to take over Chernogorsk, clear it of all zombie and PVP threats, and set up a safe haven for friendlies. This is what happened. The following video includes acts of humanitarian aid, successful groupings with randoms, a mini-tent city in the heart of Cherno, lots of inappropriate conversation, some friendly fire, copious amounts of loading screens, and several bandit murders... and, though not really a professional operation this time, is a decently good example of what ~{SoH}~ is about. PLEASE click on the video to head to our YouTube channel and watch in glorious fullscreen 720p. Like, favorite, and subscribe! Expect more in the future. ~{SoH}~ Shifley

Not a public one. :P

Haha, that's great. Using an L85, I once managed to stalk someone from a considerable distance all the way to his camp. After he ran off a few minutes later, I dropped a CCO in his tent and left a note on the map letting him know who the gift was from (the note not ON his camp obviously).
-
Now you just need an L85 in your backpack so you can see all those other aholes camping in their ghillies. And a rangefinder to get an exact distance for your shot. And yeah, I know the SVD has a built-in manual rangefinder, but that's not designed for prone targets (though I'm pretty sure it's possible). Oh, and a sidearm might be nice to have. lol Also, you're missing three tools (toolbox, military flashlight, and entrenching tool). You need to dream bigger, mate. :D You do realize all but two of the sniper rifles will not kill in one shot (besides a headshot).

It's aight.

How long have you held down a town for?
sh1f replied to baconforce's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Not sure of exact hours, but it was from early evening, all night until early morning. Our reasoning was a little different however. We were locking it down to HELP people, not kill them. -
Gonna bump this one final time.
-
Shameless bump.
-
Actually, both of you are talking about a different SoH. That is the server of [soH]. We are ~{SoH}~, Shadow of Humanity. :P
-
Come on, but you still gotta be careful. We only do this once in a while. Lots of PKers on our sever and we're not big enough yet to have a constant presence. We're getting there though.

Bump.

Well, our server MOTD when you join says that we are a friendly group, and if you look at 34:31, you can see we put map makers on Cherno that say "New Players, lots of free loot in Cherno", "~{SoH}~ Do not fire on the living!", and "Friendly in Cherno". We're trying to build a reputation on our server so that regulars will know who we are. But if you assume we're bandits and engage us without provocation, that's your problem and we won't hesitate to return fire. That is Teamspeak3 overlay. The name that lights up shows who's talking. Unforunately, I haven't figured out how to make the box bigger yet so you only see half the list. :P

Our server is Seattle 123. Which group are you talking about? The guys in the fire station at the end? If you watch enough of the video you will see that they killed one of us. There's no surrender after that. We don't KOS.

Two Bandits Infiltrated ~{SoH}~ Then killed some Recuits
sh1f replied to DayzBandito's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Funny, I don't know any of the names in this. I guess maybe all these were people recruited just yesterday? You didn't really "infiltrate" us. We're an open group at the moment. And fully aware that we're gonna get goobers like you. We will persevere. Still, thanks for the publicity. :) -
You Fus Ro Da'd him off the roof. "I'm going after this guy... Gordon Freeman style." <3

Why are people calling zombies zeds?
sh1f replied to joevella.ns@gmail.com's topic in New Player Discussion
It's so we can say "Zed's dead, baby. Zed's dead." -
Sweet! So when is the 1.7.1.2 hotfix coming out to fix 1.7.1.1? *trollface* j/k Thought I wouldn't get to play any DayZ for a day or two, but wow... Kudos.
-
Haven't played due to reports of zombie overspawning, zombies still seeing and hitting through walls, and low FPS concerns.

Yep, it's underrated IMO. I carry my M107 during long distance travel, and then whip the silenced MP5 out from my backpack for towns. Can move in, take out any zombles in the way with a simple headshot, loot quickly without ever having to crawl or worrying about aggro, and get out before anyone ever realizes you're in the area. And if you do get in a gun battle, no zombie aggro doesn't hurt. Gonna be even better in the new patch with increased zombie damage.

Times that you lost some good loot on you.
sh1f replied to Nex (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yep, this is why I start every new life with a suicide sprint through all the nearby good buildings to get as much good shit as possible before heading north. Well, lost an MP5SD and M9SD to a bug before. Was out of ammo and running into the barracks to take shelter from zombies. Someone had barricaded the entrance with barbed wire. Broke my legs from clipping on the door while trying to get over the wire... and was then beat to death by a zombie through the wall. 1.7.1 can't get here fast enough. :P Then there was the time I lost my hunting rifle, alice pack, and all the tools (including GPS and NVG) to friendly fire. There were eight of us vs 1 fricken' zombie. BAM! Instant death and my body just disappeared. Currently, I'm afraid to log back in for fear of losing my M107 and Coyote Elite. :P -
The Best Loot You Have Ever Found
sh1f replied to kyleeffect@yahoo.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
In one place? Coyote Elite Backpack, MP5SD (+3 mags), M9SD (+2 mags), and Sandbags at Stary. A good Samaritan had actually left the MP5SD and M9SD out in the middle of the camp with piles of random loot. The other stuff had spawned in the tents. And then there's the time I found a Heli Crash with an M107, M240, Bizon, and a box of literally a hundred Stanag and Stanag SD magazines. In one of my first DayZ sessions, I found an M4A3 CCO at Balota, but I had no idea it was actually that rare and was promptly killed for it by a supposed friendly. -
Friendlies only - Anti Bandit group + TeamSpeak3 + Website. (Closed For Now)

Hey, sh1f (aka Casper) here, 27-year-old mic-possessing Atlantan. Let's weed out some bandit trash. Sent you a PM. -
Something that would go a ways in reducing banditry without having to massively overhaul the gameplay would be to add close name detection. Make it delayed a second upon mouseover to represent the player attempting to recognize the other. You could add a scrollwheel command that then makes the name stay visible for the current session, so a group could easier recognize each other. Give the killed player a "Killed by" message (but no "Player died" message for the killer). Then, people would actually have to start worrying a little about their reputation. Hell, if they're too aggressive or killed the wrong people, they could end up being hunted, even cross-server, always uneasy. Survivors could actually recognize each other and you'd see a lot more grouping up amongst regular pubbers.

If I just spawned, I don't even sneak through towns. Worrying about not aggroing zombies just slows you down and keeps you in the danger zone longer. I use an approach i call "free running". I just sprint (and crouch-run where appropriate) from important building to important building and kite any zombles I pick up. Once indoors, I turn around and head-pop 'em (toooo easy and Makarov ammo in this game is like grains of sand on the beach). Usually I'll only have picked up maybe four or five depending on how long I had to run and whether I worried about minimizing aggro by crouch-running where appropriate and staying off loud hard surfaces. I quickly loot the area (for instance, supermarket takes maybe a minute max) and move on to the next building before other players can respond to the sound. I've found this is the fastest way to gear up in the beginning. My favorite route is in Elektro: West Firehouse -> Church -> Hospital -> School House -> Offices -> Bistro -> Market -> North Firehouse -> "North" (if I have at least a compass and upgraded backpack) Obviously my situational awareness is not able to be at max using this tactic, but if I do come across another player, I'm usually moving too quick for them to hit me if they do open fire. Of course, this is helped by the fact I generally only play on Veteran servers. This tactic SHOULDN'T work. Zombies are currently a non-issue. Only time I worry about zombies is if I get into a PVP situation near a deer stand out in the middle of nowhere.
