Only being able to see horizon line items and outlines while a full moon out is not realistic. No moon? Yeah it's going to be pretty dark, but with stars you will be able to see like you said above. I could not see my hands in the darkness last night with a full moon. I'll see if I can tweak any kinds of settings like you say, but it still seems unnaturally dark, as a "game balance mechanic".

Yeah. I just got off after having to deal with the new night time after having been away from DayZ for an extended period. It is basically unplayable unless you use a light source, which only makes you a target. With a FULL MOON and quarter cloud cover, there was no visibility at ground level. None. I could see about 3 feet in front of me on an open airfield. That's not challenging. It's enforced artificial restraints that make night time completely untenable. I really don't like server hopping, and would prefer to play on a server regularly to build up a base and such. But night time? I will never play during night in it's current state. Aside from the game balance, it's extremely eye fatiguing and give me a headache in it's current implementation.

Currently getting kicked by BattleEye from every server I join. Might this be related to the update this morning/last night? If so, when can we see a resolution to allow us to join servers?

I am loving the patch so far. It's back to the tense survival game I loved when DayZ first came out. After a couple days playing sporadically, I'm kitted out decently. I have a Ghillie suit, Coyote backpack, M16/203, map/matches/knife/axe/light. My pack and inventory are full, since I found a crashed Huey with a 5.56 box and 2 antibiotics. I then found another 2 antibiotics in a lone shack spawn in the middle of field. I got out of the cities as fast as I could after the first couple lives. Ran up coast, went through Berezhino, and then went inland. Zombies are harder to lose, but not impossible. If you break LOS and then move to prone or crouch and move slowly, you can lose some of them. Pine Trees and large bushes will also break them off you, although not as easy as before. If I get a zed on me, I will move to a pine tree, and crouch or prone under it. Then move to other side, crouch, and move in a crouch run to another bush or tree and around it. This will usually lose the Zed on me. You can also just move under a tree, and wait a while for the Zed to lose aggro and move off on it's own. I have been hit by the FPS issues, random slide show events where my meager FPS drops into the single digits. I wish I could find an entrenching tool and one more sandbag, I'd love to try out one of the new caches. Anyways, thumbs up for me. I'm loving this patch. PS.. when looking for loot... look EVERYWHERE now. Move into an area, then go outside the perimeter and come back. I've had loot not spawn unless I did this. Loot will spawn on house steps and stoops where none did in previous patches.

Thank you SO SO much for this patch
ski2060 replied to PimpinSmurf's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I came back to vanilla to find my 300+ day old toon gone, with all his gear. So I started from scratch. Took me about 3 hours and 4 lives to figure out how to avoid Zeds, what I needed to do to stay alive, and where to go. In that time I helped a couple other players, avoided PvP because I couldn't take the risk of attracting zombies, had a great time even though I had crap gear, and spent some time exploring, trying to find the new Infected Camps. I like the game now. It's harder. I'm in the camp that enjoys a Survival game, not a sandbox PvP with moving targets in the form of Zombies. -
IMO, you shouldn't be able to walk up on a Hospital and get everything you need. You should have to scramble to find supplies. As to the glitches... LOTS of servers have borked up their new file installs. Then, the mission generator for the servers was messed up and had to be fixed. Teething pains just like every other patch. This stuff will work out. Like the OP has noted, it's a different game and you can't just run and gun all over the map now.

Very interesting. I can't wait to try out these new mechanics. As for the infection lasting forever, I think they're trying to fix it. Besides, it's a virulent plague that turns people into the walking dead, or near enough. That is a nasty bug!

I sent an invite for skype R4Z0R49. I'd love to help test out the new patch. I've just been getting back into DayZ after being away a while.

Admins : Start policing your shit.
ski2060 replied to tandwan's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
You need to be very careful. The Admin on the server I play on most of the time is now being warned to stop his efforts to root out hackers or else our server will be shut down. We have been suffering ongoing massive hacking for 2+ weeks, with the server being unplayable. So when he started temp-banning people and then going through the logs to double check everything, they complained on the server forum. Now we have DayZ staff and our hoster pissing down our admin's back and threatening blacklisting if we don't just let people on and suffer through the hacking. This mod is a great idea, but the server control scheme is pure crap. -
Standalone: Why be excited about Arma 3 engine?
ski2060 replied to Flambo (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think he's asking what improvements does the ARMA 3 engine bring to the table. Does it get rid of a lot of the current engine bugs? Does the inventory system not suck? Is it easy to inject scripts into multiplayer games just like the ARMA 2 MP engine. How is AI improved to make pathing not stupid? These are the kind of things he's asking about. What improvements other than visual are being made between the two Game Engines? -
Experiencing desync related issues for the most part. Having items appear in pack after having been dropped. Some shots not registering for several seconds on Zeds. Main issue is FPS related. I've experienced a drop of 15-20 FPS with the 1.7.2.3 update, BETA 94876. Previous to this patch I was getting 50-55 FPS with vid settings on low-med with Res at 1920x1080. Win7 64 i7-920 HD5770 1GB GDDR5 8GB RAM.

PSA: Do not wear alternative clothing in 1.7.2.0!
ski2060 replied to Legacy (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
So are alternative clothing going to stay in? I could swear I read in a post by Rocket that he intended to take them out in this patch since they where rather hacked into the code by him in the first place. -
1.7.2 Opinion thread. All your opinions, good and bad, go here.

Maybe that was referring to bear traps? Other weapons would be cool also. -

ski2060 replied to stephen.p.farrer@gmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Spawned in Debug area (not forest). 11:30 PM CST 7/1/02 Inventory completely wiped. No backpack, no items anywhere on person. Player: [AR15]ski2060 ID: 2416064 -
Is the L85A2 spawning in game? Now that chopper crashes are back to working, are these rare weapons popping up at all? They are listed on the DayZ Wiki, and I'd love to know if they are a valid weapon in game.

Battle-Eye may not be recognizing the new beta patch yet. I've had that happen to me. Takes a day or so for it to work again after updating.
