I've had this problem when not launching using the beta launcher that is found in the Steam/arma2oa folder. See the link just above this post. As I understand it, if you launch with the steam launcher you will not be running the game in beta mode (the game simply sees the beta as a mod, and steam launches the game without the beta mod) This will all be greatly simplified once the arma2 beta gets released as a final version (soon?) and is patched into the game via steam. -

From reading a lot of the suggestions here on the suggestion forum, I think ponies is what people are after....horses are big and mean but ponies, they are cute and gentle. Maybe some purple ones. And what about those ponies with the horn coming out of their face? I hear those are amazin'

What version are you using, this was removed in one of the recent patches.

Side chat was never intended to be included in the game. It was only there until direct chat was fixed in the Arma 2 beta patch. You guys can go round and round on this all you like, but rocket doesnt want it. How many times are you gonna debate this?

Hehe, wait till everyone realizes that direct chat aggros the zombies......there is gonna be a shitstorm. I do miss being able to help others figure out the game controls etc in side chat but the level of immersion is definitely better with it gone. -
One of the most memorable experiences I have had in DayZ ended up with me crawling for over an hour down out of the hills to a coast town with a broken leg and 1100 blood. In order to survive I needed to loot a knife, hatchet and matches so that I could crawl back up into the hills and try to find an animal to kill and cook. Once that was accomplished I had morophine waiting for me a few valleys over in my tent. It was so hard to see where the zombies were and being prone did not help but I managed to find the knife and hatchet after searching a few buildings. Matches were what had me worried, they are difficult to find even under the best of circumstances. Unfortunately, I was eaten alive by a pack of zombies while still searching for the matches...I was able to take a few of them out with my pistol but from there it was just a blur of shapes rushing in at me. I can't even find words to describe how intense that whole experience was, it was unlike anything I have ever experienced in any other game. I guess I could have just hit respawn or came on the forum and bitched about how we need to change the blood mechanic but I would have missed an amazing experiment in determination. That was nearly a month ago and nothing I've done since has even come close to matching the adrenaline rush of finding that knife and hatchet when I'd needed it so badly. I would be surprised if I ever have such a rush of pure survival instinct again in this or any other game. If some of the people in this thread get their way, it's almost certain I won't because the hand holding fairy will float down from the sky, magically regenerate my blood, heal my broken bones and give me a sweet sweet angel kiss on the forehead. I don't want this game watered down. I want it to be brutal and intense and unforgiving. Fuck this regenerating blood bullshit! I won't have it.

Just as a reference, I read earlier today that it took BIS a year to create the Chernaurus map (it's claimed that every single tree was placed by hand). Not saying it "couldnt" be doubled, but the scope of what you are asking is enormous...using maps which already exist would be a MUCH simpler option.

I would assume the server would allow one character per player per map. But even though Rocket has said he COULD easily add new maps, he has not ever said he intends to. So until then, I would not lose any sleep over it.

Rocket has stated that it would take around an hour to convert an existing Arma 2 map over to the DayZ mod. I would not expect that anytime soon though.

Rocket said awhile back that the coastal spawns were necessary due to an engine limitation of some kind. Sorry, I don't recall the specifics but that is why it's set up how it is.
