Yes you are right, all Arma 2 beta patches are backwards compatible, this makes it much easier for BIS to release incremental updates to the beta.

You are a GOD among men. Thank you for that quote! (not to be a dick, but that's a winner...)

Will server swapping be removed?
SystemiK replied to DevilDog (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yes. A very powerful server architecture such as EVE has, can do amazing things when it comes to player count online together in a gameworld. Dayz on the other hand has some limitations. Primarily, that it is limited by landmass. Chenaurus is a massive landmass for 50 people to play on. It's even a large landmass for 250 people to play on, but it's an impossibly small landmass for 25,000 people to play on, do you see the difference? It's not a matter of server capacity how many people can play together, it's a matter of engine limitations on how big it can be vs. how many clients. Can you FIT 25,000 players on chernaurus and have something worth playing? No. Can you even manage 25,000 players on the Arma2 engine? Hell no. Well, then you need many servers "instancing" the game world within a HIVE to give us an illusion of a seamless and persistant gameworld. You don't have the luxury in a landmass based game of providing a MASSIVE gameworld, you can only provide a landmass as big as your engine is capable of providing. I think the arma 2 engine has proven itself to be very capable of providing massive terrains, but it can never provide the kind of space a single non instanced Dayz world would require. It was never designed to operate on that scale. There are ways to offer an illusion such as instances within a common world but in my experience they are the antithesis to sandbox gameplay. The solution for this may well exist, but the server structure of EVE is not the answer. Super Computing on a residential level on the other hand.... Kolchak obviously has a very good understanding of this, you should re-read his post... -
Sorry, Boneboys, I'm not well versed in the ways of the arma2 engine. When you say "mission maker" can I assume you are talking about Rocket, and not the server admins?
-
You forget one thing... we spare time modders are already there for a long time (years) in the series. None of us is getting paid for making a mod like rocket. If you guys want to have features in DayZ' date=' he is the one to ask for and the one who has to make them, not anybody else. And our fans would be upset if we suddenly add zombies/infected/or whatever it is stuff to ACE or would put effort into it (even if we MilSim fans are currently a minority in the series). Xeno [/quote'] Fair enough. I was being a bit of an ass earlier and I apologize.

Too hard to find sniper rifles WOW

That was a pretty awful attempt at forum trollololing.....bring your A game next time. -
Six updater isnt exactly user friendly.... You can also update them yourself which.....heh....isn't exactly user friendly either. Hopefully the Arma 2 beta patch will reach final soon. The beta patch seems to be more confusing for people than the actual dayZ patches. Once arma 2 beta reaches final I would expect that Steam will auto patch everyone up to the same version and then we will only have the dayz updates to deal with.
-
Of course, Boneboys, I didn't mean to suggest not updating at all. Just that if you updated your beta patch yesterday and a new beta pops today that only changes mortar fire ranges, you probably can take a pass that one. Incidentally, Ive been searching for a tenative beta release date. Have you ever heard mention from BIS of an intended release date for the beta, or is it just one of those "done when its done" situations?

New Maps/The Army of the Czech Republic and DayZ...
SystemiK replied to wasrad's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Actually there is not that much work to be done. He has said here on the fourms, and also in the PC Gamer interview quoted below that setting up [an existing arma 2] map for Dayz would take about an hour. -
-
Also, look at the changelog next to the beta download. Many times they update the beta patch with a newer version that has changes which have nothing at all to do with DayZ. Stuff like this: [94206] Fixed: Disabled channels can be bypassed in briefing screen (https://dev-heaven.net/issues/33906) No need to update to beta version [94206] just for this one fix which has nothing to do with DayZ. Save yourself the hassle for nothing.

Yes, this keeps being suggested. First of all his framerates are fine. Furthermore, as I have already said, with over 330,000 unique players there should easily be tens of thousands of people playing DayZ with poor framerates on low spec machines, laptops, etc. Where are all the bug reports from these tens of thousands of people who play with low framerates every day? There are only a handful. Logic suggests that framerate is not the issue here, and then how do you account for the people who are playing on high spec rigs who are also reporting this problem? Edit: I have also been searching through the BIS Arma 2 forums, and have not found any mention of this problem being discussed. Whatever it is, it seems specific to DayZ.

I kind of expect this to happen in the future at some point given the amount of exploits going on but then again, the ability to join other servers is a huge design feature of the mod and is partly responsible for it's popularity. The one reservation I have about being locked to a single server is what happens when a server you have a character on suddenly is taken down? I've already lost fully stocked tents on two servers when the admin decided he could no longer afford them. With servers tied to players, I would have been stuck in limbo with a character which I could no longer log in. -

You do run at different speeds depending on weapon Chief. That's not what this is about however. We have been trying to sort this out for nearly two months now. Trust me when I say that we have taken all of the various movement penalties and stances into account.
-
Nope, he lives a few blocks from me and we both have the same ISP and 30meg connections. We always compare ping when we get ingame and on the servers we play usually are within the 30 - 60 range. He generally has a slightly better ping than me.
-
CMK: No his movement speed is consistantly slower than mine when we move with the same posture. When we compared our crawling speeds, the difference was much less pronounced, I would estimate he was crawling at about 85% of my crawl speed. Think about this. If you make a run from the coast all the way to NWA, your buddy with this problem would only be a bit over halfway there. This really sucks for those people. One other strange thing is that when I watch him run, his animation looks like one of those people who do that weird '"speedwalking" exercise thing. Looks very strange to watch him run. He has told me a few times that right when he starts to run it feels like he is running normally and then within a couple of seconds his speed bogs down. I've pretty much given up on finding a solution. The only thing I can really do at this point is to try and get any kind of attention from the devs. TheJuhoker: Be sure and have him submit a bug report, that's probably the best chance he has of ever getting this looked into.
-
There is a very rare bug which is affecting only a small number of players. People with this bug have reported having a slower run speed since the very first time playing the game, and respawning or even a complete reinstall does not fix it. As near as we can tell, this issue seems to be permanent for anyone that has it. A buddy of mine has this run speed bug. We have tried everything possible to find a fix but nothing has worked. We've done a fair amount of testing and I would estimate that his all out sprinting speed is only about 60% of mine. When we travel together I am forced to crouch run while he does a full sprint just to help even out our run speeds. Even then, I still crouch run faster than his full sprint. There have been a handful of posts from others reporting the same issue but since it's not very common it is unlikely to get much attention from the devs. One thing I would like to point out (since someone always suggests that this is due to the person having a low FPS) is that there are thousands of people, probably even tens of thousands of people, playing DayZ on low spec machines, laptops etc. If this bug were related to FPS there would be a HUGE number of corresponding bug reports. There are not. Furthermore, I have seen posts from two people who had this bug that reported playing on high spec machines. This does not seem to be pc spec related. Bad_Mojo mentioned ping. I can't speak for others with the bug, but my buddy and I have very comparable pings anytime we have compared them in game. EDIT We have just discovered that when he plays in first person view, he has the movement speed bug. As soon as he switches his view to 3rd person he can run at the same speed as me. [see post 42 in this thread for more info] EDIT

Just be aware that if you choose to wait, you are likely going to be waiting a year or more...

You didnt mention nametags setting. What is your position on this? I simply refuse to play on servers which enable nametags but VERY few servers include this info in the server name. "Hello. My name is ____________" "I am currently XXX distance from the barrel of your gun." "I know you can't actually see me, I'm over here behind the rock. No not THAT rock, this one over here \o/" It's completely ridiculous to have nametags in a setting such as DayZ. Actually, it's really the only setting that I care about being disabled, I can take or leave the others however they are. EDIT: Great idea for your server by the way.....
