A fix for those who have FPS issues and or Mouse lag
SystemiK replied to Syntax323's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm pretty sure that arma used to not properly detect CPU count, and that one of the patches along the way has corrected this. One of the devs said so in an interview about dayz recently. I dont think that step is necessary. -

Anytime you spawn on the northeast coast, consider yourself very lucky. I'm certain you will have plenty of chances to spawn near Cherno or Electro... -
Constructive PvP suggestions (bandit point of view)
SystemiK replied to Torothin's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There are a finite number of zombies which can spawn due to engine/server/client limitations. As the mod is optimized this number will only grow but those limitations are why the zeds work the way they presently do. I can think of a number of reasons why global chat could be desireable, talking smack is not among them... -

I keep seeing people talking as if Arma 3's "all buildings enterable" is going to solve some kind of fundamental problem with loot distribution. It will definitely add more options for the game designer to make things interesting, but let's be realistic here, you are not going to see loot in EVERY building in that situation. There would simply be way too many loot spawns. What I think you are much more likely to see is a lot of buildings which have no loot at all inside them (or even worse, nothing but trash loot in most of them). Think about it. If we could magically add an interior space and a loot spawn or two to EVERY building in the current map, you would have a MASSIVE amount of loot drops added and it would completely unbalance the game as it is now. On the other hand, you could spread the current amount of loot among every building on Chernaurus, but now that loot is spread far and wide with a shit ton of spots you have to hit to find anything at all (and I'll admit, this might actually be cool) we would definitely have to test it to really know how it would actually play. Do we really WANT to have to hit every single room in every single building? Do we want this many loot spawns at all? On the other hand, I'm all for interior space in every building, that will be amazing. I just think people should spend a bit more time thinking through the implications of adding loot drops to EVERY building in the game as keeps being suggested. Having all buildings enterable should not equal loot at every building. It's too much loot and will either kill the current scarcity mechanic, or simply water it down with massive amounts of garbage loot (which is yet another consideration....how many loot locations can the engine handle)? surely there are limitations. The best answer that I can come up with is to give every building a POTENTIAL to spawn loot. As it is now, we know exactly where the loot should be, just not what will be there. Perhaps, in the arma 3 scenario, there are still roughly the same number of loot spawns, but they move randomly to other buildings, so you never actually know where the loot is going to be. It would definitely make every loot run unique, but would this become tedious? Thats a LOT of buildings to search.... I'm curious how some of you would like to see this work if DayZ ends up being ported into Arma 3?

The easiest and most fair way to solve disconnecting problem

Also be aware that from time to time your tent will fail to spawn. This does not mean it's gone, just that you will have to wait for the server to restart before it will come back again.

I have read that placing a backpack full of items into a tent will destroy any items which were in the backpack. Have not tested this for myself.
-
That last statement is false (at least as of patch 1.7). Tents do not currently disappear after you die, however you do lose your ability to pack up the tent and move it.

[1.7.1.5 and before] Character slower than anyone else.

A friend of mine has this bug. We have spent weeks trying to isolate the cause of it and last night we discovered that he only has this movement speed bug when playing in 1st person view. Once he switches to 3rd person view, he can run normally. Could you test this for yourself and report whether it works for you as well? Female character is extremely SLOW.
SystemiK replied to Kimiko (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I believe we have found a workaround for this movement speed bug. If you have the bug, it seems that playing in 3rd person will allow you to sprint normally, i.e. keep up with other players. We made a major discovery in testing tonight. We generally play on Veteran servers because my buddy cant stand having 3rd person view on and I can't stand having nametags on. We ended up logging to a 3rd person enabled server though and I suggested that since we had never compared our run speeds with him in 3rd person, that we should compare. Once he switched to 3rd person view he was immediately able to run at the same speed as me (actually it was just a shade slower, perhaps 5% less) and this was the first time he has ever been able to stay with me in a full sprint in the nearly two months since we have been playing DayZ. Previously, when he was running in 1st person view we estimated that he was sprinting at roughly 65% of my sprint speed. If you are experiencing this bug, PLEASE get with a friend and test this theory both running alongside your friend in 1st person (for reference) and then again running in 3rd person view. For testing purposes, make sure you are both either unarmed or at least carrying the same class of weapon i.e. primary / secondary. Also ensure that you are both using the same posture and movement speed. If this bug can be isolated and reproduced, we are well on our way to finding a solution for this movement speed bug. Please be sure to post your results. This link is a similar thread on the same topic: My Friend Runs Slower Than Me?: http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=24249 -
Thanks, but that is not the issure here Uglyboy, The movement speed bug is a consistently slower movement speed (very slow) in all stances, and not a curve where the player gradually slows down from exhaustion. As I mentioned above, we discovered last night that if he uses 3rd person view when running, that his movement speed bug is no longer present. For some reason, the bug only happens to him when in first person view.

i persoanlly would love to see third person removed entirely
SystemiK replied to A.Jones's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
A friend and I have spent the last 8 weeks trying to figure out why he can only sprint at about 65% of my sprint speed (and no, I don't need anyone to educate me about all the movement penalties for stance / weapons etc). What we found last night is that when he plays in 1st person view he has this speed bug. When he plays in 3rd person, he can run same as me. A lot of other people have also reported the same problem with run speed. Thank fucking god, we can finally travel together again..... For this reason, I do not endorse removing 3rd person. It is a server option for a reason. -
Starting fires: so easy a cavema--Nah.
SystemiK replied to FoxKeegan's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well the problem, as usual, is that people are expecting realism to make the game right. Yet the reason matches are rare is that they are tied into the blood mechanic and it needs artificial constraints to ensure that it is somewhat balanced. Blood bags are the group mechanic for replenishing blood, and matches (along with knife and hatchet) are the equivalent blood replenishing mechanic for solo players. Blood bags are only found in a select few places on the map, and likewise, matches spawns are also very limited. Matches are rare for a reason. Think of it as a safeguard making sure that life does not get too easy. Otherwise all we have left is to run around shooting each other... -

Starting with no wep is Awesome. Just need to be balanced...

DayZ is a lot of living and a lot of dying, dying seems to have a special place in DayZ. Not every life turns out to have been a life worth living, but every once in a while you are dealt with a perfect hand and the game takes you on an amazing and wild ride. Too many people play this game and expect every life they play to be an awesome experience. That's just not the kind of mod we have here. It strives to deal you a shitty hand and see what you can make of it. This does not always end well for the player. It's a dog eat dog world and sometimes we get eaten... Lately, I have found the most enjoyable part of the game for me is after I have fucked up and made a serious mistake. Maybe I've got 3000 blood and cant see for shit, maybe I'm a 30 minute crawl from the nearest village, maybe I don't have a chance in hell of surviving if I don't find a knife & some matches so I can crawl off to find a cow and then crawl to back to my tent for morophine. Surviving can get a bit dull after awhile, but surviving against impossible odds, well that can be pretty sweet. Just last night, I entered a house and 3 zeds jumped me from inside. I came out with 3200 blood and decided that I would trek south to cherno. Vision was fucked, it was dark, didnt even think I'd make it there and then BAM! Found a tent in the cherno apts. Well, "do or die trying" just became "NOT A FUCKING OPTION". I had one can of beans and now I had a REAL goal. Get my ass north to a place I had scouted out for a camp. Getting there was a nightmare with bad vision and the darkeness and all but I made it. Got my camp secured, and shortly afterwards, I died of starvation. I don't play this game with an expectation that every time I play the game will be an enjoyable experience. It's just not that kind of game. I PLAY it because I know that every once in awhile something truly amazing will happen to me. TL;DR Blah blah blah -
I thought Haswell was their 22nm and Broadwell is the 14nm currently in R&D.

 Yeah. That's gotta be it. Game over folks, move along.....

Very well. His avg FPS is high 30, with very infrequent dips below. The game data resides on a Western Digital Caviar Black. Perhaps you wouldn't mind defining "protypical processor'' for us? That certainly sounds interesting...

Will server swapping be removed?
SystemiK replied to DevilDog (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I can imagine shards being another 4 or 5 islands, set around Chernaurus. A boat mechanic, perhaps a rare rowboat spawn, could allow the player a chance to leave the island. This could be suggested as a simple cut scene in order to keep it simple. I'm not really sure what the limitations are as far as having more than 1 map on a server. Obviously that would be preferable, but if this is not possible, it could be done less elegantly by placing the new maps on certain servers but it would be quite immersion breaking to have to switch servers in order to appear on the new island. I could see it working like this. A new map is released. Players can't just go there at will, it takes a rare event / item (rowboat etc., maybe you find the keys to a boat off the coast as a rare loot item) in order for this to occur. This allows a more organic migration onto the new island as players are randomly given the chance to leave chernaurus. Once on the new island it would be pretty much business as usual. Chernaurus players would have a sort of end game goal to seek however. Over time the new island would become populated to an extent similar to Chernaurus previously, and at some point in the future a new island is released. Same mechanic. Pretty rough, not very seamless. Though it would provide some flair, some new options, a choice about leaving for unkown territory, something to work toward. I would like the idea of slowly introducing 4 or 5 well chosen island maps over the course of 8 or 9 months. It really comes down to whether or not a single server can simultaneously host more than one map. If it comes down to dedicated servers per map the mechanic becomes very unweildy. I know Rocket is thinking something along these lines when he has spoken of expanding the map. It will be very interesting to see what he comes up with. -
Question for Arma 2 vets. RE: Beta Release Date
SystemiK posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've been watching for any word on when the current Arma 2 beta patch might be completed but have never seen any mention of this. Have BIS ever stated publicly when they "hope" to have a release candidate?
