Thanks Massios, for clarifying the inventory logs. Again, I'd rather an admin wasn't able to see what kind of items I am carrying but as you said, it's not available in real time, and would take at least some minor efforts on the Admin's part to get. On the one hand, you can use that type of data to identify a hacker. On the other I would prefer that my items be visible only to Battleye or a Dev, but I guess it's a tradeoff that I'm willing to live with. This game is likely to require many compromises, this is probably among the least of them. I'll make you a deal. If you ever see me skulking about on your server at around the same time your camp gets raided, just promise me you won't look in my backpack to see if I have any of your stuff and I'll call us square :P

Can someone put the latest Beta version up for download?
SystemiK replied to Shard (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I only get the password prompt when their server is getting slammed with requests. Keep trying and one time you won't get the prompt for password. -
Direct chat needs fixed screw bear traps.

Well playZ, there are certainly many ways to skin a cat.....your idea has some significant hurdles to overcome, but it could be a workable option. I suggest you get started immediately and keep us updated if at all possible. :D -
I had no idea admins had this amount of access to contents of player inventories. Not sure how I feel about that. I'd much rather something like BE keep an eye on my current gear than an actual person who may (or may not) misuse that information. Massios, could you please elaborate? Are you able to check a players current inventory at any time? (I'm not planning to get bitchy about it, this is just news to me and wanted a better understanding on the info you (as an admin) can access about a players gear. Does this extend to tents / vehicles as well?

You might wanna have a chat with some of the folks over at BIS. They are the people responsible for the functionality of direct chat. The DayZ team are not involved with this aspect of the game. -

Those sound like hacked items right there. No I just happened to turn around toward the way I came (as I often do) and caught a flash of a name in a tree behind me and when I looked back to the tree there was another name. They were obscured, behind a tree I'd just walked past moments before. I dunno, gee must have followed me away from Balota hangars. Couple bursts into the tree and they were dead. I killed two people who I had never even laid eyes on alive. I just shot a bit below their nametags and they magically died. That was pretty much the day I started playing on no nametags servers. If you like em that's fine, I just don't think enough people realize how silly they are in the context of this game. If gritty and "authentic" is what the dev's are admittedly going for, nametags do not fit the bill. -
Sorry, I didnt mean at all suggest they were not compatible, but you said in the OP that if you lost track of your zombie kills it would be davastating. All I was suggesting is that with a robust stat tracking system (which is currently being implemented) you will never lose track of those kills, and a myriad of other stats about your individual lives, as well as your overall life time as a DayZ participant. Possibly I have read too much into the dev's words but it seems to be something that they are putting quite a bit of effort and resources into. The amount of data they have already must be staggering. I expect that while in such early development they will keep much of the data under wraps. Later, once they've sussed out system they want to use and development is further along, they could tie that information into an API for third party applications to disseminate (Ander has already suggested that a future API is a possibilty at some point). Anyhow, back to your idea. I think it has some teeth in it. It's the first time I've heard a suggestion involving a game economy that didn't make me cringe. I'm not 100%, but I'm definitely interested to see where this idea goes...

It's a server side setting, not client side.

Just a chance in hell here. Have him try running in 3rd person view. I had a buddy who had this problem and for some reason he could keep up while in 3rd person (though others have tried this with no luck at all). Later I gave him an old 4870 and he has been running fine ever since...

It's not though. I killed two players who I never even SAW. Just two floating names in a tree behind me, blam blam at the branches and nobody was stalking me anymore. I'm not arguing that all servers should be veteran, just that nametags should be abolished from the game at some point (if it's after the end of BETA I can live with that) but they really have no place in a game that is trying so hard to sell itself as "authentic". -
lol, registered just to gloat? Was it everything you hoped it'd be?
-
Given the amount of effort they seem to be putting into stat generation, I'd imagine they will be tracking such things like that closely, "possibly" even with API support given a post I saw from Ander recently. Not a bad idea though...

Hey friend. This " . " is a period, and this " , " is a comma. I have way more of them than I'll ever be able to use so I figured I should give some to you. .............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, There, that oughtta fix you up for a bit :D

LOL! I was trying to get that screenshot earlier but my stat window jumped from 666,582 straight to 666,876. Was going to title it, FUCK THIS GAME! It gone to hell...

Patience is not a virtue in DayZ
SystemiK replied to Benlandia's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Odd, my lifespan has increased dramatically since I began playing only on Veteran servers...must be because I'm not running around the map with a giant green billboard / nametag / rangefinder floating magically above my head which announces to anyone looking near my direction "HAI.....I'm over here! Behind the rock. No, not that rock, THIS rock right here.....\o/.....\o/.....can you see me NOW"? I wonder if that has anything to do with it..... -

Lol, who the hell really plays on name tag enabled servers anyway? Nothing screams KILL ME like a green billboard (with built in rangefinder) floating above your head... -
Sorry, dunno about that, but I'm interested to know which build they are recommending. Are you referring to a particular beta build or just the hive files?

One more tip I forgot to add. Sometimes you cannot pick up a pack you find. The solution to this is to lmove ALL the items laying around it, away from it. The items close to it is sometimes bug out the pack, and you won't get the option to pick up the pack while they are close to it.

The servers I've seen listed with prices ranged from $40 to $80 / month but none of those were at 60 slots. You can find a lot more info if you do some searching in the server section of this forum. Sorry, I don't have much more info than that.
-
Absolutely. I would recommend you check out Villayer. Always been happy playing on the servers they host.
-
Well I'd like to think that the game is just a little bit better off without you. Thanks for leaving. Really. We all appreciate it very much.

If you are serious about hiding your tent in a tree, be prepared to try several dozen times. Imagine you are trying to find the exact pixel to place it on....sucks but patience is rewarded.

Is there any way to see what server you last was on
SystemiK replied to b00m666's topic in New Player Discussion
You can also use the i key to display the server name while you are still in it in case you forgot the name when you joined. (there are a few servers that this will not work on, most do) -
As long as you are the owner of the tent AND STILL HAVE NOT DIED SINCE PLACING IT you can pack it up and take it. Also, be aware, occasionally the server will fail to spawn your tent after a reboot. Generally, the tent will be back again after the next server reboot.

Deer stands can be found on the maps you can find online, such as http://dayzmap.info/ , or http://dayzdb.com/map#4.069.072 , they are marked as little huts on stilts and are scattered around in the mountain areas (usually overlooking a field). There are around 75 of them. If you click on one of them on either map it will popup a list of items you are likely to find there and their spawn percentage.
