  1. KOS11 Wow...your an ill-educated bore who can't get out an intelligent thought out without name calling and spewing hate. Hell, you can't get an intelligent thought out at all. 1) I own guns myself and have used them...have you? Some how I think you may have raped or murdered someone. Seeing as how you sound like a sociopath. 2) I lived through Katrina myself. Not in New Orleans but not super far. My neighbors and I made sure anyone like you was sent packing. You are the one with stupid attitudes about what happened. In "reality" people would group up and kill people like you. It is just human nature to remove threats. However, in DayZ, reality is not in play, PK'rs are pretty much anonymous and death is not a permanent state. This allows people who enjoy killing to get their rocks off without getting sent to prison or executed. Maybe its even therapeutic in some way to kill in game. Do you feel better after murdering in game all evening? Has your rage decreased? Lets hope so. P.S. From your writing skills I think I can assure you that my education level is well above yours.
  2. I am glad to see some sanity in this thread. Human beings by their nature group up to overcome the environment. This has been shown to be true throughout history. There are exceptions and in any situation where there is no law evil things happen...but this does not change the fact that most people would be driven to find a group in which to exist. I am a historian and can not think of a situation where what the OP states is accurate. I am open to suggestions. First off... I have heard Katrina mentioned: This is Bullshit. The hurricane effected millions but the number of murderers was quite small. Most of what we saw on TV was HYPE for ratings (or political benefit). Katrina is not a valid example in any case because every one knew that the rule of law would return in a few days. The closest event I can think of was possibly behind the german lines in the U.S.S.R. after Barbarossa. Millions slaughtered, SS hunting down and killing almost anyone, food and meds short. No idea when they will be gone. People grouped up and fought back. (Even this is not a good match)
  3. All this whining from PK'rs is amusing. I don't understand how DC'ing helps once you have been shot anyway. You just die on another server. I suggest head shots to keep them from DC'ing on you. Killing them was the point wasn't it? :D As to timers...one minute is ridiculous. I would suggest 15 seconds. More than that will be an issue when looking for a day time server. If they fix the darkness issues then a longer timer would be ok.
  4. I agree he shouldn't be exploiting... but his bigger point is that matches/lighters should be much more common in the game. I probably have fifty matchboxes and 6 lighters here in my house and I don't even smoke. In a world where 99% of people are dead or infected what happened to all those fire sources? Just curious.
  5. This darkness thing is a real problem. Logged into a server the other night. It was PITCH black in the forest. No stars...nothing. I had just been in a night time ARMA2 game and was able to fight in the darkness. I set my video options to max and it was STILL pitch black. What is going on?

    PVP no Zombie servers

I agree! Its called Death match.

    Smell (need to bathe)

I know! Lets add clipping our nails to the game. Maybe you will get shot while clipping your toe nails. :D I think this is almost as bad as the defecating thread. This is just clutter...how about we "assume" that survivors wash them selves from time to time when not in game? Can they shit and piss at the same time? Wash hands?

    Making our own camps?

A good start to what you suggest is the ability to make a stash. This would tie survivors to a general area. Groups of players could place their stashes in the same general area. Perhaps a group of survivors could create a large stash that would be more persistent. Why we must be lucky enough to find a tent in order to save anything off the body makes little sense to me. Putting stuff in a hollow log or stump would be quite easy. Digging a hole with a number of implements would also be easy. Of course, this might cause lag issues if done to often. The next step up would be to create a lean-to or shack. All of these would be available for theft of course. This entire area will need to be explored to add definition to the later part of the game. Right now once you get well equipped there is nothing to do but PK.

    Changes to Zombie Aggro Mechanics

The search engine here is terrible.
  10. Where do people get the misconception that CHAOS broke out after Hurricane Katrina? The area struck by the storm had some 3 to 5 million residents depending on how the area is defined. The number of those who committed crimes; particularly murder; was in the hundreds at most. You people need to become more discerning media consumers...a lot of what you saw on TV was hype for ratings. In any case, the situation is not comparable. EVERYONE in the Katrina storm area knew that law and order would soon return. It might take awhile...but any brazen lawlessness would eventually be punished.
  11. Since when is shotgun shells gun specific? I own multiple shotguns (80 year old single shot; double barrel; pump) and have been using them for over 45 years. Shotgun ammo is pretty generic. 12 gauge is 12 gauge. I hold judgement on the military guns...I've never held one. Shotguns should be loaded one shell at a time. If this isn't workable in the ARMA model then at least make shells more generic in some fashion.

    Changes to Zombie Aggro Mechanics

Deviant is correct. What you suggest has pretty much been implemented. I use fire from cover and shoot and scoot all the time now. I have actually started killing them just to see how they react. It is an ALPHA after all.
  13. This can not be a serious suggestion. When I start having to shit and piss in a game I am moving on.

    Zombies should one hit kill

Hmmm. What is my definition of insanity? One hit kill zombies. How about we make nuclear weapons available? That would be fun...for a minute or two. Nice ARMA graphics...
  15. The blurriness brought on by low health is not improving as you return your health to normal. I raised my health from 4100 to 12000 removing the heartbeat and the loss of color but the blurriness did not go away. I left the server and reconnected and my vision returned to normal. This happened this morning, June 21, 2112 on US40 (I think). Equipment: I have a PC Core2 Quad Q9300 with a Nvidia GTX 550Ti. Thank you!
  16. I like the winchester as well. I had to drop it on my current character because I could never find more than two packs of ammo. They do seem more rare than they used to be. Shouldn't the other 12 gauge ammo be usable in the winchester? I have two shotguns in RL and interchange the ammo all the time.

    just shot my first person

If they have something you really need, a good pack or weapon consider killing them. If not I would just turn away. If you can't run without danger - then you have to kill them. The other day I was on the edge of some woods and saw a guy running towards me across the field. His name was "murderer" or something equivalent. I considered killing him with my AK just because of the name. Then I decided not too. I almost regret it. :-/

    I dislike the spawn system.

You have to be careful where you camp. Doing it in a building or other place where players tend to hang out is asking for it. If you do camp in such a place go into a small room or put your back to the wall. Basically your just taking a chance. The other day I spawned RIGHT behind a guy on the third floor of a building. I mean I was three feet away. I put my gun right up to his head and started to pull the trigger. But I turned and ran down the stairs instead. I felt using an exploit like that was beneath me. I wonder if he even realized I was there once I started moving...:)
  19. I am pretty sure that Rocket won't be able to do this...even though it would be great. The Arma engine isn't set up for it because it is built around simulating short term modern combats where the people enter combat with X full mags and can sometimes run to the ammo box to grab more mags. Reloading the mags is beyond the scope of the game. Maybe they will think of a way around this...we'll see. Another similar problem in the game as of 1.7.1.5 is all the different kinds of shotgun ammo. Isn't 12 gauge, 12 gauge? I have owned a number of shotguns in my life and all 12 gauge used any 12 gauge ammo...so why all the different kinds of shotgun ammo? These are very basic smooth bore weapons.

To Rocket & the “Hardcore” crowd

The original poster has a valid point. Numerous pages of attacks and name calling do not change that fact. I begin to wonder who the real whiners are here. Yes, there is a limit to the reality that can be put into a game about "zombies". But how does that justify breaking your leg from a 2 foot drop or from turning while prone in a door way; to name two examples. I think all players realize that the over all story here is not "realistic". But the mechanics need to be as realistic as possible. For example, what would the average person start with when leaving their house after a zombie pandemic? In the USA people would be armed to the teeth. I have two shotguns and two rifles here in my house...have been a gun owner since about eight years old. In a post communist police state guns would be rare. But frankly, who wouldn't have a bat or axe? Who wouldn't have matches, a knife, a flashlight, a decent amount of canned goods, a couple of sodas. Frankly, starting without any weapon at all seems a bit silly. Leaving the game a basic death-match experience will just turn DayZ into another run of the mill game. I don't want PK'ing outlawed. I want it made so that players can't be ganked by jerks(another word would be better) that should be known as jerks. If you want to be a killer there should be consequences. The best one is to let the players themselves deal with the issue. But mechanisms must be put in place to let others know who the Pk'rs are. The exact mechanics will have to be figured out through trial and error.
  21. Nalamin

    justify your actions

I agree that PK'ers are not playing the game in the way it was originally intended. This is supposed to be a survivor game; not a straight death-match game. Apparently these are people that get their rocks off ruining the game experience of other random, unknown, game players. You see them everywhere in other games, EVE, Left for Dead, and on and on. Unfortunately you can't get rid of them. What I suggest is make it possible to identify these people in some way so that they can be hunted and killed by other players. My group of friends would love that as a late game job to do(We need one). Skins seem to me to be to obvious. But I never did play with that mod. Came to DayZ to late. How about just having a button (Like "I" as in Arma) where you can see a list of how many Players a guy has killed. This would leave some ambiguity. If all 50 players have an average of five PC kills then their is no way to tell who is a killer. If one player has 80 kills...he is a Pk'r. In my short time in the game I have killed three times...all because I felt trapped or threatened. Usually I avoid contact if I can. I have also been killed myself three times. For this to work there would have to be some way of telling who is who when you look at them. Some servers have this turned off. To those who say this isn't realistic; you need to think about it. If someone has made numerous PK kills in a real world like this...rumors would begin to go around. People would begin to suspect. The more kills the more likely people will hear about the rumors. Once you have Pk'd enough EVERYONE will know or at least believe it. A simple listing causes the exact same progression. The big question about this is would your count restart when you do? I have to say it should, otherwise the longer you play the higher your count.

    Wasted time in the beginning

I suggest making the expert and hardcore servers start with no weapon. The others start as before with a Makarov or a melee weapon. Of course if people wanted they could start on a recruit level, get a weapon, the move to the expert server. If they want to, let them. This is a game after all.

    Stashes

I agree with this. Why do we need to find a rare item like a tent to stash a few items in a tree stump? I can see a limitation of one or two stashes to save on processor power and some chance that they be found and robbed. Also, they disappear when we die? or shortly after like a tent. (I have been playing the game for over 30 hours in game time and have never seen a tent)
