  1. Why is it that any time you say the zombie mechanics are a bit over done there has to be one or more writers that give you a lecture about attacking Rocket or DayZ? This game is an alpha - they WANT our input. If the current Zed parameters are annoying you or making the game lack enjoyment the DayZ management wants to know about it. So please stop lecturing everyone about Rocket this Rocket that...you would think he hands out prizes for best boot-licker or something. Remember - He WANTS the input.

    From an Eve-Online Player...

I totally disagree with that' date=' doing that would almost certainly mean a dumb down and that would be a disaster for this game. I recall one shootout I had, I could barely aim with the mouse my hands where shaking so much. What game, except perhaps eve gives that level of emotion. (Also an EVE player btw, only played it for the few months leading up to monoclegate) [/quote'] By larger audience I do not mean dumbing the game down to uselessness. The game needs to tend toward a true survivor type of environment. If it remains just another death match game with zombies it will not remain so popular. As long as the average life in the game is 32 minutes it will be hard to convince me that the game is more than a death match environment to most of the players. Besides; isn't BI in this to make money?

    Hatchet and Flashlight are tools

Why do you need a hatchet to gather wood anyway? I have been camping many times and never needed a hatchet to gather wood. It does fall to the ground naturally. Once again, a big deal is being made out of something in-game that in real life would be considered inconsequential. Free wood for all in the DayZ world!

    Getting knocked unconscious

I agree that the being knocked out thing is a bit much. The zombies are not ninjas and they are not even armed with bats or axes. How are they knocking people out so easily. The 9,000 blood points thing is just an arbitrary number that equates to hit points. If it actually represented blood it would re-up over time and the body would tend to stay at its normal blood level. Therefore, I think the arbitrary number of 5,000 is much more realistic for having unarmed, half dead zombies knock you out cold. At least it makes the game more fun and game deaths less "arbitrary".

    Please keep no-weapon spawns

Isn't the country where DayZ takes place supposed to be a communist totalitarian country? Wouldn't weapons, particularly shouldered rifles be illegal? Pistol's as well? I seem to recall hearing that the old U.S.S.R. allowed shot guns in rural areas but non-hunting weapons would be very restricted. This is the best reason that I have heard for not starting with some kind of weapon. The other good reason is that it makes restarting so onerous that people will be more willing to work together...I wish I thought that was true. Unfortunately, with the current level of zombie aggro, I think starting without a weapon just makes the game un-fun. We are playing the game to have fun aren't we? I reiterate; if zombies weren't so aggro and didn't spawn on top of loot points this might be more doable option. For now I think it just ruins the games play-ability.

A new 'incentive' to encourage cooperation

There are already massive benefits to teaming up in DayZ. Working in a group of even two people GREATLY increases your chances of survival. But, to be frank, players don't care. Or at least enough don't care and wish to play killers that the average player has to avoid EVERYONE that they do not know personally. Also, the fact that you can not be "regular" team mates in the game with someone else makes developing relationships pointless in the long term. This is due of course to the fact that when you die you are randomly restarted on the shore...your old team mate could be miles away. So the game both encourages and discourages team play all at the same time. Fixing the respawn thing so friends respawned together or closer to their old team mates would help. But what if one person in a group dies but the others are still alive...how do you fix that? Perhaps allow a group of player s to "declare" a base where they respawn? A place to defend? I am really not sure how to make it work.
  7. DayZ is supposed to be a post apocalyptic world where 99% of people have died. Frankly, there would be canned goods everywhere. Matches and knives would be common items as well. Hatchets less so but still common in rural areas. Even shotguns should be fairly easy to find. Pistols less so. Combat weapons extremely rare (of course, on an ARMA map military bases etc are more common than in real life) The things that should be extremely difficult to find would be DMR's and night vision goggles. Anything that required batteries would be difficult(watches, flashlights, etc). When is the last time you saw a wind up watch in real life. These things need to be thought out more carefully. As to water and water bottles...containers should be pretty common. But, would you want to drink the water out of your local pond near your home? If you did would you get sick? The world just had millions die! Must it be boiled to be safe? Think about that before you pop the top on a soda in game...it would probably be safer in actual fact. Another thing to consider...shouldn't food that has been cooked give a person better health points? Hot food has been a major item for humans for 10's of thousands of years. But fires are dangerous of course. Perhaps have someone who has eaten a good hot meal reup health points over time for some period. What about spoilage; especially of fresh or cooked meats? These items should be fairly plentiful but required to sustain life. I feel they pretty much were already. Just getting your health up 1000 pts is five cans of food. Acquiring food should be an in game nuisance...not the end all of raiding.

    From an Eve-Online Player...

DayZ is not a hard game if you play with no real interest in staying alive. Its a great death match game with zombies. The biggest difference DayZ has over other death match games is that you have to start over with each death...usually you just re spawn. In reference to Eve Online - it is a much harder game than DayZ. I will be quite disappointed if Rocket and BI are trying to imitate Eve in anyway. EVE has a very small player base due to many design decisions about how the game works. I hope they will try and make DayZ enjoyable to a much larger audience. (I won't go into Eve's flaws here...they are not the point)
  9. The game is currently broken in this area. I think Rocket was attempting to increase the danger from zombies and chose methods that just don't work. I am confident that most of the changes of the last few days will be removed after further evaluation. Basically, zombies should be pretty easy to avoid as long as you use patience and stealth. Placing them on loot points is a bit of a problem with the current aggro levels but otherwise I actually like that component. But a single shot shouldn't bring to much aggro...esp with a pistol. If you are inside a building aggro should be reduced as well. As to this idea that zombies should "hit" harder...why? They are basically unarmed; how are they causing massive injuries when unarmed? How do they knock survivors out with a single blow? Are they ninja zombies? This has happened to me five or six times and just seems silly to me. If you want them hitting that hard give them an axe or bat. The big danger of zombies should be the swarm...a death from a thousand blows.

    1.7.1.4 zombies irrelevant

This sounds like a stupid implementation of zombies to me. I am glad someone enjoys it.

    Do people even crawl?

Crawling is common and makes moving in towns possible. But you can still be aggro'd while crawling. It has happened to me twice. Both times by crouching/crawling zombies. You must still keep your distance while crawling. This comment is prior to the updates 1.7.1.1 through 4. Haven't played much since these updates.
  12. Yes I have not been able to test yet in the game since I am on a break. But it sounds good.

    Seriously what happened Rocket?

I agree that the original poster went a bit to far and became overly emotional. But this doesn't change the fact that the last few mods have come close to making the game unplayable. This is the message that was trying to be sent. This is the kind of message that rocket needs. Give them some time to evaluate it and make additional changes. If your completely frustrated like me, take a break for a week or a month; play something else. Then come back to evaluate the progress...put in your two cents again. With that said, I do feel that the current game design is somewhat disjointed. Are you attempting to make a survivor game or a PvP death match type of game. I would think that survival rates in minutes instead of hours indicates that the current game is more a PvP death match than a survival game.

    Zombies after patch 7.1.1.4

The game is quickly being made unplayable. Stealth has been basically removed. Zombies now sit ON TOP of loot drops forcing survivors to kill them to get at much of anything. THEN the final insanity...the removal of the survivor's weapon. I suggest ceasing playing DayZ until some sanity returns.
  15. With this modification the game DayZ has become a joke. I will cease playing forthwith. I am sure thousands of other players will do the same. This is supposed to be a "survivor" game. When you have the average lifespan of characters sitting at 30 minutes...that isn't what this is. But you are persisting in making the game more difficult to placate the strange demands of people who enjoy dying every thirty minutes. This is more of a death match game apparently. All you whacks out there can enjoy it. I will continue to view the forums to see if you return to some kind of sanity.
