So as the title suggests on dayz sometimes people dupe us, they earn our trust and they fuck us over....and sometimes as i found yesterday you dont respawn in the normal way, "thinking oh well...shit happens"....you spawn with nothing but a burning desire to hunt those bastards down and make them pay!! I have a story, but i'll write it when it runs its course, i wonder though...have any of you been driven to spend hours on dayz tracking someone down who wronged you, to finally get that revenge? I mean its a valid objective, a dynamic situation created by the game that gives you a little extra purpose, so any of you got a story to share?

I would like to add, that after last night i should advocate giving people a chance even more. Played on a full server that was essentially a kill zone but still random teamed up with various people and had a great time riding helis and buses and roaming the map and loot zones with a partner(s), was great! -
I used to use a hauppage HD PVR should of realised to you 'obv' dont. I was only asking man, no need to be so sharp.

First get a mic, makes a huge differance to face to face situations, you can quickly double tap in on and use your hands to control your guns then. If someone starts shooting you mid-type you have a tendacy to suffer a brain 'spaz out' as you try to hurridly cancel the text and move/shoot etc. which just adds to the fustration. I always have my comms on direct just in case. If you dont have a mic avoid contact with other hummies. However here this last bit and heed these words friend: Dont give up on other players, i too was burnt by others many times and no doubt will be in future however last night on a busy killzone of a server i had the best random night of fun yet on dayz where i random teamed up with other survivors, ended up riding in buses full (party bus!) choppers, and just having a good time. It was huge fun but even one of the friendly survivors turned rouge and tried to shoot us all and steal a chopper, tis part of the danger of the game, you just have to make yourself a lesser obvious target for such types. Just be smart about how you approach people and how you deal with them, dont be a victim.

what do you use to record pal?

I know where your coming from, but the reason they get the 'love' is because they do draw new players in and bring extra publicity to the game (from BI perspective) which makes them a good established platform to promote the SA. I myself made the desicion to get Dayz based of a well know (in the dayz community) bloggers vidoes and didnt regret it one bit, so thats essentially one future purchase of DayZ SA already via said video blogger. Thats BI's understandable angle and good luck to the youtubers who get the attention because some of them put alot into it, sure not everyone likes them getting attention or their videos or their voice or whatever but hey, live and let live, they arent doing the game any harm so whats the problem.

I should add that i agree with this, dont trust people outright but be open to friendship etc. You learn as you go what types are most liekly to shoot you in the back and again, the risk of it is part of the fun. -

Hello there! I am also a former xboxer and still ocassionally enjoy some xbox however making the jump to pc gaming is a good move, we gamers must broaden our horizons! I speak to you as a 3 week greenhorne but i'll share what i've picked up with some heavy playtime in those weeks. Yes its true you cant really trust anyone unless its someone you know and trust in RL. My first experience on this game with contact with another survivor was very good, he was friendly and helped me out big time. However that made me too trusting and i can tell you i have been killed many times since, often by kill on sight tactics but also and most frustratingly by people who have took the time to win my trust only to then shoot me in the back......the bastards! However it is part of what makes the game fun..... My advice would be to start of playing on low to mid population servers as it gives you the chance to learn the map and game without continually running into violent, blood thirsty bandits. dont get me wrong on low pop servers you can still get banditry but people either keep to themsleves more or are more friendly, either that or you just wont run into anyone much. Try to avoid the south coast killzones (particularly on busy servers) of Cherno, Eleckro until your armed as they are hotbeds of PvP and bandits target those areas as lots of fresh spawn noobs tend to head there and make good target practice for them and their shiny new sniper rifles. When you first spawn look to the bottom right of the screen as it will display the nearest town name and can help you work out where the hell you are. Head to barn buildings for decent starter level guns early on, safer than the firestations at said hotbeds of death. You can aquire other essentials at supermarkets such as the map, a better backpack, hunting knife etc. You want the gear to make yourself sustainable in the wild as early as possible, always think 2 meals and drinks ahead. Take a look at the wiki for lots of good starter info: http://www.dayzwiki.com/wiki/Main_Page and also why not study the map and loot/spawn areas: http://dayzdb.com/map#5.049.128 It will take a fair amount of playing experience to get a feel for this game but if you'll get there :) While i say avoid those towns of Electro and Cherno initially, if your on a low pop server you can try your luck in them and get to know the layout. But if you go into them gunless on a busy server i assure you that you will meet with a violent and messy end, they are deadly towns and again if your on a busy server avoid travelling along roads between towns. Theres so much more to it but the wiki, other player guides on the net, you tube videos and of course playing are going to be your best bets for getting to grips with it. Enjoy, its a game of experiences thats for sure! -

The only person who can manage your expactations is you.....and your clearly not very good at it. I think it would be a waste of time for them to try and appease people like you becuase all you do is whine, they dont have an obligation to spoon feed us updates. -

Also the wiki shows how much blood each weapon takes per shot and the usual shots to kill rating etc. I assume this is all accurate and worthy reading: http://www.dayzwiki.com/wiki/Weapons -
Comparison of DayZ Weapons For New Players

My favourite is the revolver as i think it looks cool, i like westerns and thus revolvers plus the ammo is plentiful and you can use the m1911 ammo too....and i got my first ever hummie kill with it! -
Im willing to bet he called you a hacker or script kiddie in side lol, nice revenge though, he clearly underestimated you.

hardly relevant, there will always be long awaited dissapointments. Most of the time the more time and care you put into something the better the results than when you rush to appease fans. The longer development curve gives more time for them to test things out and implement improvements or even new features. dont people have lives to get on with while they wait, or at least the mod? -
Crack i admire the effort, Im playing the long game to get some bastardo back myself right now, im under a different name as the one i had when he killed me. The guy is always trying to set people up, offering things, trying to sell them cars etc, i have to bite my tounge when he's in side doing it. I know he has a big camp with a lot of cars and gear and he mostly opperates alone although he had an accomplice the night he did me. I have a car now and i just drive around looking for this car i know he drives, one day i'll find him and either follow him back to his base or kill him right there.......either that or he'll kill me and i'll cry hard.

Will Snipers Be Removed Or At Least Tweaked In S.A?
nox81 replied to Pokerguy12's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Seriosuly? The OP is playing the realism card.....what about the errr zombies? I get what your trying to say about the sniper rifles, i think they should take them out of the game in the standalone bar say one or two that are very rare but no 50. cals etc. But if your going to go on about the ability to run with a gun on your back and aim etc. vs realism well then theres a lot more to take issue with than that, we should also have a bladder icon that dictates when we gotta take a shit and piss in the woods too, i mean imagine coming across a guy taking a shit in the woods and wasting him....that would be worth a screenshot surely?...plus there would then at least be a reason to carry toilet role around with you....cos no-one wants to see the 'dirty bum' meter rising to high! :) -
In the standalone wont zombies just roam? I heard they will follow the human trail and end up wherever hummies are but wont spawn in so much?
-
What would be really good is game specific injuries showing properly, such as bullet wounds where they were actually hit or wounds specific to being killed by a zombie. When i stumble across an abandoned car and two dead guys i like to play Mr inspector and try to work out what happened, were they ambushed, did zombies get them? Is the killer still near by? It would be cool if the bodies would give me a clue as to where they were shot and what with etc. That would be cool in my eyes, and when you inspect the body it would be cool if it said something like His name was 'whatever' he's been dead for 1 hour' etc....cos if it said 3 minutes you'd start panicking!

oh crashed helicopter, how you tease me with bad loot
nox81 replied to jdtherocker's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
THIS, i waited and then carefully, painsteakingly crawled and rolled between 5-6 zombies, got like 10 metres away from the heli and another 7 just magically appeared right next to the helli and started walking towards me....ffs. -
Sit back at the bandits camp fire, swig some soda, eat some freshly cooked beef and hear the story of my first ever hummie kill, cowardly or just...you decide. I stated of being friendly on this game, afraid even. My first encounter with a hummie as i posted on here was a good experience, he helped me out, showed me the ropes, took me on a supply run. He even took me to his camp, shared his gear with me and showed me his hidden ATV. From then on i had a rule, i would be like him, i'd help others too just like he did. A couple of nights later there i was helping a new player out and it felt good, but then things took a turn for the worse. I fell victim to the murderers and cut throats, whilst unarmed i was attacked several times, lost a few lives and and on one occasion some really good progress, i was duped by people claiming to be friendly only to shoot me in cold blood. So i started to stay away from big towns and people, i gathered some decent gear over a period of time, a couple of assualt rifles, a ghillie, i hunted for food, cooked it, filled my water at lakes as i travelled south to north via forrests, emerging into towns occasionally to make runs for food and ammo. Eventaully i wound up at devils Castle. It had been a long session and i figured i'd save log out at the top of the tower once i had gathered what ever was lying around of worth. On my way in i was forced to kill a couple of zombies, my m4a1 rounds rang out loud and i wondered then if anyone may have heard, but i hadnt seen another soul all session. I headed up to the top of the tower and found a revolver on my way up and some rounds, i switched it for the makarov i had and went to the top. Once there i surveyed the country side and noticed the distinctive rising smoke of a chopper crash. I imediatly scurryed up to the wall and pulled out my binocs.....and there she was an M107 laying right next to it. I could hardly contain my excitment, i'd never owned a high end sniper rifle and my backpacked AK-74 was low on ammo. So i took a moment to organise my backpack, drink up some soda and eat some pasta quickly. I pulled my newly aquired revolver to deal with any zeds and turned and made for the stairs.....as i turned to descend i was stopped dead in my tracks with shock and fear......another player was coming up on the flight leading to the one i was facing, he was side on to me with an axe in his hand, he was crouched and scurrying up quickly! In the absence of a mic trying to type for him to 'stop' was well beyond my panicked fingers, i quickly aimed down my revolver at him and in a panic i fired off 3-4 shots hitting him with 2-3 of them. I think he must have felt the panic as much as me as he turned and ran as fast as he could which just panicked me even more "what if he survives and hides and waits for me, what if he has a gun aswell and switches to it!" i gave chase firing wildly but missing which forced me to switch to my shouldred M4A1 as opposed to risking a reload of the revolver. Running down after him i found him a flight down prone on the floor and bleeding bad....i took aim with the M4 and fired two more shots.....he was dead. I huridly searched his body wondering if he had friends on their way up towards me, i quickly grabbed some bacon and a water bottle, before running out of there. My heart was still pounding as i crawled to the heli crash some 200m away from the castle when i saw a side chat message pop up from the murdered survivor which read something like this "ghillied bandit up at devils castle, be careful everyone" At that moment i switched from my ghillie to my camo clothes, slide up to the wreck, grabbed the sniper rifle and slipped away into the tree line and the approaching server darkness. The thought that i was being treated as something of a danger, a bandit was kinda exciting....i had killed out of fear for my life, fear of losing my gear and the chance to get a weapon i've never had, he may have been on his way up there to kill me, it looked that way at the time but in hindsight by the way he ran and the fact he was side on; im willing to bet getting shot shit him up as much as me seeing him approaching at the most unexpected moment having not seen another soul for ages. It was probably just a real unfortunate conincidence that we found ourselves together on that stairwell, a tense moment where you shoot first, ask questions later. An unfortunate crossing of paths (for him). I felt exhilarated, maybe it was wrong, had i had a mic i maybe would have quickly shouted 'get back' at him, but the relief i felt when i caught up with him and ended him and the chance of him killing me was satisfying. Sure he had only an axe visable, i didnt check his backpack and he had no sidearm but i wasnt taking any chances this time, i've been on the wrong end of encounters armed with nothing. He had alot of survival gear too.....strange that there was no gun. But i didnt care, i had taken my first life, i had escaped the scene, got my loot (the M107) and some bacon and water off him. I had also changed my gear to avoid arousing suspicion should anyone else see me folowing his message. I felt like a sneaky, cold blooded murderer, but i also felt justififed, its a brutal world in Dayz....and to his credit he didnt complain, he knew thats how it goes and warned the rest of the server of the danger. i'll say one thing though, few games have made my heart pump like that.....im mean killing a guy who was massivley out gunned should not make you feel so good! but it was the sense of having survived , when he ran i felt a surge of excitment, fear......when i saw him down and bleeding i felt i had power over him as i ended it.....in some ways im sorry for him, in others....im just glad im alive for a little bit longer. Maybe i could have bandaged him as he lay there, explained...wished him well and ran off? Is this the beggining of another cold bandit? we'll have to see.....theres still some friendly guy in there, wanting to team up with other survivors and go on supply runs and fight bandits.....but theres also some badit in there now, who equally wants to hunt unsuspecting survivors, track them like a predator waiting for that opportune moment, raid camps and get his hands on other peoples high end gear. So there it is, my first kill and it came in a most unexpected moment of fear and excitment, the beauty & brutality of DayZ. I dare say i'll be that bit calmer next time for the experience of this kill. There lies my victim as i leave the scene, note the blood dripping over the edge of the stairs....colour is washed out from blood loss.

Wasteland style objectives.....but done very differently
nox81 posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Not sure if this has ever been suggested in any shape or form but; I have an idea for the standalone or future versions of the mod (standalone in particular): Those of you familiar with the Arma mp mode wasteland will know that it flashes up periodic optional tasks which can serve to bring the players of a server together to fight/work with each other for a reward. In dayz such a system could be an interesting way of adding some colour to the gameplay but heres how i think it should be implemented: Only a few randomly or location/gear selected players are notified of the task - so only players with no firearms or people that are within a certain area of the map etc. depending on a criteria based on who the reward would be useful to. If in the standalone firearms are rare then this could be a good way or introducing a decent rare weapon every now and again or clothing etc. Objectives only appear every 2-4 hours (or whatever) so as to not dominate the normal games flow and style, it is simply a little flavour not something that happens every 15 mins or has every player on the server involved. Players can be notified of a 'rumour' or find a 'map' or some such clue/whisper that says something is at a certain location or happening somewhere, this can give players a reason to visit other areas of the map and coax forrest dwelling loot hoarders out into some tense search where interaction and conflict with other players is likely but only on a small scale. The reward would remain at the location for a pre-determined time or until found, if configured well the system could draw together certain types of players based on the criteria of the notification to implement some objective based teamwork (should there be numnerous itmes to share) or confilct (if only one). So imagine your only in possesion of low end gear and your cooking meat alone at your camp, your a lone wolf who avoids conflict type and you recive a notification 9witha bit of colour and back story) on screen or via your map screen that says there is a high powered assault rifle/item/vehicle a couple of clicks away in a remote location. You know that only yourself and a handful of other players have been notified of this. What would follow would be a tense journey to that area, perhaps at night where your on the watch for movement and other survivors knowing that your not likely to be alone at the location. Even if you got the item first you could potentially be spotted and chased from the location and tracked and hunted for the item, particularly if rare (think standalone there). I think if implemented well in the standalone it could offer opportunities for the tracking mechanics to be used or rare items to be fed in, it also offers a chance for some focused play fleetingly for players who might not normally engage in it or for a squad of guys to try and swoop on some 'booty' and snatch it up. Of course it might be argued this would encourage pvp but there could be all manner of options to spice it up, like lots of zombies at the location making gun fire problematic or if control is offered at server side admins could tailor it to the play style of their server; so a server with melee only weapons could make a pistol a sought after item and the scene of a mass melee scramble with zombies all around it! It might suit the stand alone more than the mod and is maybe worth a thought by the devs for future updates of the standalone when it comes out? Could be cool no? B) Just a thought. :) P.S. i know that there are ways players could exploit it to some degree, telling all their well armed clan buddies to come along etc. but that may or may not be a problem depending on the variables, it could even add to the fun. If there are multiple rewards or something a group can share it might promote teamwork. -

Well maybe instead of notifications you could find randomly placed things that contain information when your looting such as a hand written note in the boot of a car (as they are allowing cars to be looted in sa) or something similar, something more organic to the game and the way it works now? -

nox81 replied to jdtherocker's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So what are the tell tail signs visually of fresh crash? All the ones i have seen have been burning with smoke, does this change over time? Im pretty sure most of the ones i've been to have been partially looted before me but is there a way to know other than the loot itself such as the zombie count etc?
