This is exactly what popped into my head when I read the first post. I liked the ammo checking system on Red Orchestra. Sometimes I forgot how many shots I took at a guy and had to check my ammo and it worked really well with any gun. I would like a different animation as well, depending on what you're wearing and what stance you are in. If you have a helmet you can hit your magazine against it and estimate how many rounds you have left. If you don't have a helmet and you're crouching, hit the mag against your knee etc. etc. A numeric ammo counter is really stupid and has no place in a realistic surviving game such as DayZ, and I believe they have already thought of an ammo check feature for the standalone that fits in well with the minimal GUI they are talking about. Maybe they can enable a CoD-style counter (even Call of Duty doesn't show your ammo info on HC mode) in regular mode (nobody who plays DayZ for the sake of surviving in a hardcore environment and realism will select regular anyway).
