If you spawn off the map in an open, empty field, then just keep switching servers until you spawn correctly. If you spawn off the map but there's a bunch of trees around (debug forrest), then run southeast and you will eventually run into Kamenka. Took me about 20 mins last time it happened to me. Always log out with at least 2 or 3 food and drinks, because you never know...

My friend bought a computer just for DayZ. He had a laptop, that couldn't run Arma2, and wanted another laptop to replace it, so that he could play DayZ and sell the other laptop. I did some research, and since he wanted to spend as little as possible, I found an Acer laptop on Amazon for $419 that I thought would work. AMD A6 CPU and 6520G iGPU. Runs Arma2/DayZ on Medium settings pretty well. I haven't overclocked it for him yet, but there's videos on YouTube of that laptop with a decent overclock running BF3 on Ultra settings quite nicely. So, for around $400 you could run it fine. Maybe a little more/less if you're looking for a desktop, since you'd also need the monitor and peripherals. -
Manually-placed markers would be nice, yeah. Don't know since I don't use the in-game map that often. But yeah I guess you can't do anything like that so that there's more of an incentive to find the GPS.

Opinion on server hoppers? (JUSTICE)
dph314 replied to hunter2123's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=9657 That is my proposed solution. I think it would work beautifully. There's no way to fix it completely with ZERO inconvenience to people that follow the rules. But I think my idea will cause the least amount of grief to people that play the right way, and at the same time making server-hopping a thing of the past. Once servers are on the Arma3 engine, have less lag, and DayZ is running the final version and more reliable version, this should be implemented. Small inconvenience to me is fine as far as I'm concerned if it eliminated all the server-hopping to get loot and cheap kills. -
Fuckin cocksucker just got me with this spawning in the air crap. I hope Rocket can get enough intel on who's doing this shit to toss some bans out.

20 words or less: Super-Low Humanity Detection
dph314 replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Does NO ONE realize this is a game? It can be realistic as possible, but it is still a game either way and needs to draw the line between realism and playability SOMEWHERE. There's going to be things that don't completely sync-up with real life, but for the game's sake need to be that way. Everyone needs to consider playability and balance before they scream "realism is all that matters!". -
20 words or less: Super-Low Humanity Detection

YES Whether this is a perfect idea or not, at least it's a step in the right direction. And I DO think that this 'humanity level' that will be implemented for this new mechanic should definitely carry over from life to life. The whole point of this mechanic is to offer some type of consequences right? What's the point if someone can run around ruining everyone's day for a week and then just die and have their humanity reset? They know they can "switch" and be good at any time (by dying), so this doesn't really make people think before killing as much as it should. Now, if the consequences were permanent, as in carying over from life to life, then people would REALLY have to live with their actions. I think that's the way to go. -
Rocket-> THE BIGGEST PROBLEM IN THIS AMAZING GAME...FIXED!
dph314 replied to dph314's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
That could work too. And yeah trying server after server until you're relatively close to the Airfield would eventually give you a shorter hike there, but you would still have to enter the Airfield like every other player, as opposed to being able to spawn into a hangar or the Control Tower. So, this would be a good solution regardless I think. -
Looking better and better. Read through all 57 pages of this thread. My anticipation is at the boiling point :)

Some servers I join don't allow me to select the Side-Channel. I'll cycle through the channels, and there'll be Global, Vehicle, and Direct Channels, but no Side. The wierd thing is, I see other people using Side-Channel, but I can't. Also, when I will try to talk to people on the Global-Channel, no one seems to be able to see it. Anyone had this problem before? How come some servers are like this for me, but Side-Channel, and chat in general for that matter, seems to be working fine for everyone else?

should there be regular resets on characters
dph314 replied to vanilladragon's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think my idea would combat server-hopping much better, and not punish those that don't. Everyone has a 'primary' server, the one that they last logged into and out of. You spawn in that same spot when going back to your primary server, but when you switch servers, you are spawned randomly (not in a town or near another player). That way people can pick up where they left off on their primary server, and also switch servers if they want but not be able to spawn in 20 NW Airfields in 20 minutes. Small inconvenience to people switching servers once in a while, but completely solves the server-hopping problem. No more farming, no more popping up behind people during a firefight. And best of all, this will not punish anyone NEARLY as bad as a monthly game-wide reset. -
True. But it might do the exact opposite of what your saying, and make people just shoot on sight even more often, since with more zombies, people REALLY wouldn't want to go into towns unless they have to. So the solution? Kill more players out in the woods where they're safe from a hoard of zombies that they don't have enough ammo to take on.

Rocket-> THE BIGGEST PROBLEM IN THIS AMAZING GAME...FIXED!

Once servers are more reliable (in the final version), then you will just have to pick one if you want to spawn in the same spot, that's how it would work. Everyone says its supposed to be realistic. Everyone screams at people that make suggestions about making things easier for survivors because "in a real zombie apocolypse it WOULD be this brutal, deal with it". Well, having to play during the night is something you would have to do in a realistic game. I think that this is something that people would be willing to deal with if it prevents server hopping. The system that kicks you if you log in too many times won't work, since all it takes is one time to spawn in someone's safe-zone. Servers will get more reliable, so lag shouldn't be a problem too often, or for too long. And if you don't like playing in the night time, then you would just be out of luck, unless you pick a server that is daytime when you play most, or you just deal with a random spawn, simple as that. Dealing with a random spawn once in a while is a damn fair trade as far as I'm concerned to stop all the server-hopping and disconnecting. It would be a deterrant to people who do it habitually, but tolerable for people who only have to switch servers once in a while. I think it would work without being much of an inconvenience. -
First there's "we need more zombies" comments, and now we need less vehicles? I have yet to run into a vehicle, probably because clans keep hoarding them. Like my post a few posts up, more zombies will either equal 1.) crawling way too much which makes the game too slow and boring, or 2.) you're dead everytime you go into a town since there's no melee attack and you aren't going to be carrying 100 bullets on you every time you need to go into a town for food. And vehicles, though I've never had one, are a fun aspect of the game I'm assuming. Why have less of them? They're already practically non-existant as it is.

I think the island that someone mentioned is a great idea. I think once server-hopping is taken care of, the island will be a great place. Or, isn't there a rather thin peninsula along the coast? Like the place almost looks like an island, but when you get close enough there's a thin strip of land going out to it? I haven't been down south in a while so I forgot. But it would be easy to defend. And if this gets up and running before server-hopping is taken care of, then we can just have a lot of guards on the island, so that anyone would be stupid to even try it since they're guarenteed to die, even if they take one or maybe two people down with them. Slightly off topic, but I think a great idea nonetheless, is something that I'm going to post in the suggestion area. A solution for server-hoppers that I think will be fair and work like a charm. Idea---when someone logs into a server for the first time and spawns for the first time, that becomes they're 'primary' server for the time-being. When they log out, and then later log back in, they spawn right in the same spot like things work now. But, when they want to switch servers (log into one other than their 'primary'), they spawn at a random spawn point anywhere out in the wilderness anywhere on the map (that way you don't spawn on the coast near new players when you have good loot you've spent time collecting, and you also don't spawn in a town that is probably inhabited by another player). That server they logged into then becomes their 'primary', where they can log out and spawn where they left off, and the same random-wilderness spawn occurs everytime someone decides to 'switch' from their primary server. THIS SOLVES SERVER-HOPPING and allows awesome ideas like this trading-post to happen :) -
Looking to join one as well. The thread about setting up the Trading Post - http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=9239 - sounds incredibly interesting and I am definitely going to be a part of it once it gets up and running.

Do you understand what you're saying about the zombies? There needs to be 5 times more and 10 times more and all this other stuff, yet...How do you plan on killing them? Two things will happen with 5X more zombies: 1.) Crawling EVERYWHERE making the game incredibly slow and boring, 2.) Dying every single time you need to go into town for food, every single time, since where do you plan on getting all this ammo to kill 100 zombies? How often do you have 100 bullets on you for every can of food you wanna go in and get? And with either of the two outcomes above, one thing is GUARENTEED- the game gets less fun. Whether it gets incredibly slow and boring or incredibly difficult to the point where it's frustrating/impossible, one thing is certain- it gets less fun. I know SOMETHING should be done, but I just don't think a million more zombies is the answer.
