Persistent Container AKA Tents? coming next update
monolith1985 replied to punkvegita's topic in General Discussion
i watched sacriels stream on youtube last night, and he definitely said backpacks as persistent storage. but since there was 9 videos i couldnt tell you which one exactly, but i know it was early, just after the shootout when dean joined, and sacriel was still running around the same area as when dean joined the chat, but not the game. not exact info i know but il back up the other guy who did say backpacks aswell. personally though, id prefer a tent, or a stash buried in the ground (which is in the mod, or epoch) but i wonder if a person dies and the server restarts, will their just be a bag lying on the ground, or will it disappear with the body -

Character Customization: How far should they go?
monolith1985 replied to gemellus's topic in Suggestions
i think hair color, then a few extra faces, maybe a couple different options for eyes, nose, mouth etc, then add a few more hairstyles. as mentioned this is a low priority thing, but it is necessary, -
hope dean doesnt add more zombies (at least for a while)

running upstairs usually works, as they cant get up, also if you have nothing and get trapped, a punch to the head and vault over usually gives you enough distance to run away -
Latest Patches Discussion - What You Like & Hate - Predictions
monolith1985 replied to daniels's topic in General Discussion
some good points, but i dont wanna see different hives just yet, as in the mod that leads to people not caring about their character as much. as you said, i could be a nice guy 1 server, then just get a new character with all new gear for when i wanna run around cities deathmatching. It should stay as if I want to go deathmatching in the city, i take my only character and all my gear and just have to risk losing it for me, the biggest thing is more loot, then more zombies - that should lower server hopping, as people can find the stuff they want, and enough zombies that each new server is a threat as they would have to clear airfields etc each time before looting. then bases (at least camps, like the mod) so people can find home on a server, rather than just basing it on whats got the most/least players. And vehicles of course just to get around faster, plus it adds to the atmosphere, im sure many of us in the mod have heard a car and suddenly panicked as you try to figure out where the sound is coming from as for weapons, not a high priority as there is an ok selection so far, but seems everything is leaning more towards rifles, and I would rather see more close quarter weapons, like a new pistol, maybe an smg like an uzi or pdw, and a crossbow thats actually useful -
i also agree completely, one time i logged into a server and it turns out i had played on it before, as it said i was alive for over 100 days. It should be based on playing time only i used to take more interest in my survival time than any other stat on the debug, my best was a mere 5 days (of playing each day for hours) then i died because the heli pilot had trouble taking off and crashed, any other death, i wouldnt of been annoyed, but setting my highest survival time and counting just to die i did feel a sense of loss for that character now most private hives ive seen dont bother showing days survived, its all about how many people and zombies you kill, and knowing the exact amount of blood in your body so you know when to "self bloodbag" to make sure you dont fall lower than the pass out amount

yeah rocket mentioned that they have or plan to implement that items reduce damage, so if a bullet does 200 damage, and you have something in that slot that takes 150 heath to ruin, then the item will receive most of the damage, while your body receives very little time to fill your inventory with protector cases and ballistic helmets :D (...in theory)

it may stop you from shooting people, but that person is gonna shoot you regardless of whether or not they are friendly, and frankly, some people are just dicks who will shoot you no matter what you tell them such as me being a fresh spawn with just a fire extinguisher on my back, was in the same apartment with someone, he came down, i backed up and said i was friendly, he used that time to line a shot up on my head and kill me, saying "of course you are" so yeah, people will kill you no matter what, there isn't any fool proof method to KOS. Also my friend watched the guy looking around the window, then disappear, meaning he also somehow combat logged, so much for that being fixed Rocket's social experiment shows that when the world ends, only assholes will be left alive, until they all kill each other, and that will be what kills of man, not a zombie virus.

i played the mod on a pvp server tonight and managed 6 kills (plus assists) before dying, with an ak and m9sd most were at close combat too. its not hard once you are used to it if you prefer a controller for xpadder id recommend setting your bumper buttons as set selectors, what they do is when you hold that button you can have your controller buttons do a different key, for me on standalone i hold left bumper and then press the 4 d-pad buttons, back and start, and a,b,x,y for my 1 - 10 hotkeys. but id say set your movement keys up in dayz, so when you move the analog stick slightly you can move slower

at first i was like stupid idea, but as i read on im....undecided on one hand, adding shitting to the game sounds stupid, on the other hand, would be a nice way to deter combat loggers if their character stays in the server AND makes alot of embarassing noises that would attract the person he is hiding from.. And the poo on the ground would let you know where, incase he tries to ghost you. you just wait for him to return to the same spot and shoot him, leaving him face down in his own excrement, sounds very fitting for combat loggers and ghosters i just wanna note im not gonna take the guys pants after he dies, no matter how many pockets he has
-
id say id trust someone in canvas pants and a yellow raincoat, someone with such a bold fashion statement has to be a nice guy...
-
as someone who got timed out for the wrong reason...i still think the good outweighs the bad in this. i think they should expand on it, make exceptions to the rule, and once its all solid, increase to timer to 10 minutes or more

dont think you will get a refund, it does say early access and you will run into problems that could outright affect your ability to play the game are you playing stable or experimental? have you tried switching between the two? or try a hardcore server where you would have a different character and can see if the problem persists either way, make a constructive post on the bug tracker and the devs will examine the issue, maybe even help you solve it remember you are essentially a tester of the game, your feedback is important in making the game better, be the change you want to see in the world!

Clothing Pockets (Separate the inventory slots!)
monolith1985 replied to jaggardos's topic in Suggestions
i always thought the 4 slots in the jeans was for 4 pockets but yeah it does make sense, but i think it wouldnt be too practical, especially with some items fitting in slots horizontally and a few vertically. it would make the inventory system unnecessarily complex, and people would debate stuff like certain items being sized 2 big/small compared to other items, like a water bottle taking up the same room as 2 pens, and so on. i mean you can already store a kitchen knife in your jeans pocket and run around, which you wouldnt do in real life. but if the slots are just slots it could be like the picture above, where the weapon is stored in the pants, rather than in pockets, so it kinda works as a generalization personally though i would like to see it implemented into hardcore servers at least -
Detailed Report - Bigs fps drops, Extreme lag, Game Crash (After 0.34.115106 Update)
monolith1985 replied to stationmax's topic in General Discussion
good report, and good follow up of the affected parts i went on last night and started dropping flickering things, my problem was that it took so long to see flickers that i would have to drop stuff and exit the server because i was complete frozen, which resulted in me being timed out for server hopping. i think my assault vest was glitched too, and my med-pack, though it was hard to tell which items it was. maybe a pistol clip aswell but it was in the vest so again hard to tell. think im just gonna wait for a new patch with the issue fixed before i play again, as i lost quite abit of stuff already. 2nd time ever owning an m4 in SA, even though it had no ammo, but now looks silly (and i presume unusable) without the buttstock -
i agree on some points to an extent, but making everything almost non existent is kinda dumb. I mean there is meant to be thousands of zombies on the map, which would make a pretty sizeable population, therefore assuming most people didnt escape the infection, which means plenty would be left behind. even if theres supposedly looters between the infection and the time players would start, grabbing everything they can isnt grabbing everything, which is why you would find a grocery store with maybe a few cans here and there left, rather than a fully stocked shop also im sure the current spawn rates are configured so everyone can find something, as already its common to spawn, run to a town thats been emptied, run to next town and its empty, then starve to death although the game is trying to be a zombie survival sim, it does have to balance between realism and making the game enjoyable to play, i believe rocket said something similar at one point
-
i think taming a dog would be cool, but not wolfs and eagles and stuff think rocket may of mentioned liking the idea of a dog companion dont think the ai would be able to distinguish friendly, enemy, and unknown though. maybe more useful for killing zombies and hunting but i agree it should require alot of food to tame/maintain the dog

every time im playing standalone, usually for a while, the game just crashes, as in freezes up completely, forcing me to ctrl alt del and end it through the task manager Ive been monitoring this for a while, and it happens anywhere, but if im just starting the game, or playing after a crash, no matter where i am, cities, forests, small towns, it runs fine, but in these same places if i have been playing for a while, it will crash have never had this happen on the mod
-
lucky, its so annoying, especially since i cant tell what server i was in last ive tried tweaking the graphics, making them really high, and making them really low
-
they added weed in the aftermath mod, never got to use it though i think it could be useful as a mild painkiller, but if the environment doesnt suit growing then theres not much point putting it in

Why do I wrap vitamins around my arm?
monolith1985 replied to Lowbi's topic in New Player Discussion
as rocket called it, the "generic medical animation" but i agree they should make it like the water bottle opening animation -
yeah i remember rocket saying he would like to make a new map. even saying he would like something with a western feel. personally i prefer the non-western maps of dayz and arma, nobody needs another new york in a videogame

Had my first DayZ experiences yesterday
monolith1985 replied to jprime84's topic in New Player Discussion
depends on the people you run into, also best to avoid most people, unless they unarmed, and not in a group also sneak around and get yourself a decent weapon so you can deal with people if they arnt friendly, also a punch or 2 will knock anyone out -
i think maps should be abit more common, as finding the full thing can take time and makes exploring more fun when you know where you are going
-
while i agree there should be more clothes, i think its a low priority id prefer sorting the current clothing loot spawn to be changed, making stuff like payday masks and military clothing quite rare also i believe rocket mentioned something about clothes having extra properties such as reduced ballistic and shock damage, plus im sure the breathing mask and gas mask will have properties eventually personally i wanna see more civillian clothes, seeing someone in military gear should be like seeing someone in the mod in hero attire, very uncommon but not too rare
