What does maxframesahead settings actually do?

so should we set it to 3, instead of 1?

My thoughts on latest experimental build

havent tried everything myself but: 100 player server is just as smooth/unsmooth as 40-50 people server only tried dropping something once, lagged abit (i get bad frames anyway so could be that) lots of people everywhere, which is interesting, now just need to spread these people around the coast abit more so it isn't an east coast punch fest time acceleration seemed around 1-2 hours for a full cycle, abit short in my opinion, and sometimes the....lighting i guess shifts from one part of the day to the next, rather than being a gradual (but faster) change might just be me but felt darker at nights than usual and some buildings (the red brick bar is only one i remember) no longer make footsteps as you walk? like eerily quiet can hear random zombie sounds all the time, as well as random eating, drinking, combining, reloading but not so frequently overall a great update, 1 change to the engine (guaranteed messages) and have managed to double the server population, showing the potential dayz has, and the new physics will be fun to play with once get more practice (gonna try throwing something to my friend and see if he can "catch" it)

The one problem I have with NIGHT...

i admit i turn my brightness up a little bit, simply because all I can see is the dot, even though im outside and should be able to see something, rather than pitch black, so i turn it up just so i can have.....different shades of black, and can do basic navigation in the dark, but for going through buildings, and for looting areas inside and outside, i have my flashlight ready I really dont like the full brightness/gamma thing, it looks like a horrible blotchy mess. I hope they can find a happy medium between stopping exploiters, and allowing people to adjust suitably for different monitors

The one problem I have with NIGHT...

yeah my reasoning is for concealment, I felt like such a noob running around the east coast with my flashlight on, surprisingly didnt attract any attention

The one problem I have with NIGHT...

could do with more lighting, but my problem is not being able to quick switch the torch on and off, used to just be L in the mod, then it was scroll and select in standalone, but last night when i tried i could only right click in inventory also in experimental last night it seemed darker than usual...just me?

    New server mode : Survival

a dayz server without zombies....pretty sure thats most servers after about an hour now on the other hand, if you had a server without loot, but lots more zombies (i believe it was said they could more than double the amount of zombies, if there was no loot spawned in) people would play that. It would be somewhere to bring your already geared player, and have fun killing small hordes. would be better than going around killing fresh spawns

Zombies - The Make or Break of DayZ?

I think they need a good blend of fight or flight, where 1 or 2 zombies wouldnt be too much of a threat that you can be taken out easily, but their strength is in numbers, with more and more zombies causing more panic and things can quickly get out of a players control should they attract too many. I think a game that does zombies well is state of decay, although it does share a great resemblance to dayz, they have managed to get zombies right, imo

    Roleplay in DayZ?

yeah the potential for standalone and RP together is great, communicating by radio, story time with books (lol), outfits to suit characters (military, civilian, medical, industrial, bikers), plus people being able to run around abit safer killing the horde of zombies we hope to see someday
  9. So me and my brother both play on the same PC, we each have purchased DayZ on our steam accounts. Since the beginning I was always set as arma 2 preset controls, plus my own tweaks and changes, while he uses dayz preset controls, with his own tweaks and changes. But lately, we seem to be sharing settings, he hasn't played for a while but when he went on, he had all my controls, which he changed, then when i go on, I have to do the same any reason why this could be? Seemed to never be an issue before. only thing i can think is I edited my config files for scene complexity, object view distance etc and marked it as read only. But since the issue I have made his config files the same. So thinking its not that....
  10. monolith1985

2 licenses - one PC - yet shared settings?

yeah we have the same windows account, however in the documents folder there is 2 user configs for me (standard and .vars) and 2 for him. plus it didnt seem to be an issue at the start, and we have always used the 1 windows account, but different presets
  11. monolith1985

    Roleplay in DayZ?

yeah im sure dayzrp will do a private hive on standalone, they already have a server for standalone, but due to limitations it can be open to exploits, like someone going in and KOSing everyone just to troll. once the server population increases and private hives are brought in, it will be fun to run into giant groups of people

    DayZ civilian airport

i agree a civilian airport makes more sense, and wouldn't be bad if its near the coast, as it is civilian its not gonna be full of military weapons, maybe just pistols, and tasers if they ever get added in I wouldnt be against replacing a military airfield with a civilian one either

    Useful books

with the new life thing, although it is less realistic that we would of read the book in a previous life, its the same as we automatically know where we are and where to go, like oh i spawned in 3 valleys i should go north and loot the town. think its a tough balance personally, if there was books that had stuff like recipes or medical advice, i would keep them in my stash so I could go back and consult them in when needed, and would sooner do that then tab out and check the internet. (and the internet already has stuff like blood transfusion guides etc, so having it in game wouldnt hurt)
  14. dayz civilian had great potential, just the mod wasn't greatly made, buildings tend to be out of place, or poorly placed in the map editor, your frames will take a much bigger hit, and if anyone changes clothing, the server crashes. also loads of random stuff put in that just didnt fit with dayz. i managed to kill psisyndicate with a formula 1 car....yeah, that happened lol though the weapon attachment system was good, but i think other mods use it aswell. as for epoch it used to my favorite, then they added in the modular base building and every vehicle and gun from arma, so now starting out on a server is impossible as you will probably get sniped from stone skyscraper while travelling,

Poll: Are you happy with update news/management?

although not the ideal solution, I see this as a good step in the right direction. good work to the forum mods for listening to feedback (even if some people were overly harsh) and working on putting this together :) thanks :) and a dev here? all in one day, we are having our cake AND eating it today :D

Walking stick, fancy pants and cigs?

wow that description is hilarious lol

    R.I.P Elektro

i doubt walking from west of elektro to balota is no shorter than walking from any of the new east coast spawns to NEAF maybe they should take out one of the firehouses in elektro, so its not that much of a high loot place, should make it more or less even with berezino and cherno. at the minute its a unecessarily harder to get off the coast, as its usually full of fresh spawn fistfights, or towns picked clean, not so much a problem if you pick any server on stable, but on experimental, or just 1 stable server you call home, you spend half the playtime getting nothing done

    Magazine Spawns

i actually managed to find the 1911 and fnx mags in the fire station and police station, respectively. naturally i didnt find the guns anywhere, but did find a different gun that takes none of the ammo i have. good old dayz lol
  19. monolith1985

    Useful books

i dont agree with "skill" books like skyrim. where you just open the cover and are magically granted the ability to blacksmith some steel into weapons. It should be more like you actually have to read the book to get the information relevant to the game, such as a journal of medicine, which for example 1 page could tell you what blood types are compatible with what. Or books with crafting receipes, such as medicine could have how to make a splint (99% of people know you combine a stick with a bandage, but using it as an example) or a survivalists guide that tells you how to create the courier backpack, aswell as future things like how to make an animal snare trap (id assume rope, sticks and food?)

    R.I.P Elektro

really disappointed with this, while i dont think people should spawn in cities, i do think spawns should be more spread out over the map, including some south coast areas like prigorodki or just west of elektro, dont see how that sort of spawn distance is any different then spawning beside berezino

Poll: Are you happy with update news/management?

to those that say there has been no updates to report in the past month or so, last time i checked there had been a server side update for buildings to spawn loot that didnt before, at least one lag/desync fix and lastly i may be wrong on this one but im not sure faster zombies was in the last changelog that was posted here. all relevant information to a player or a tester. as for ease of access to social media sites...I took this from the devtracker: one of the developers posting a picture of some sort, click the link and you are greeted with: @iantomasik's tweets are protected. Only confirmed followers have access to @iantomasik's Tweets and complete profile. Click the "Follow" button to send a follow request. so what could it be? a picture of a future addition to the game? something completely irrelevant? click the follow button and you are asked to register to twitter, so guess we will never know.
  22. i imagine it being exactly like that, especially with all the tools already in game, though i think the toolbox would be bigger than the medkit or protector case, probably taking up 8 slots, while allowing maybe 10 slots....though then again you would imagine the ammo box to be bigger yet it's still 4

Poll: Are you happy with update news/management?

Im sure a majority of people posting here are actually posting about information and the way its handled, not about the state of the game, the lack of vehicles or any other "anti-alpha" stuff. If the odd exception in this thread of 1 or 2 people saying "too long too late, h1z1 is gonna steal the throne" nonsense, most of us are discussing the fact that most information is given out on a range of other sites, and you pretty much have to visit all to get a clear picture of whats happening in development of the game. as for those who say read the devtracker, i do, and while some of the information on there is good, alot of it is out of context sentences like "rocket2guns @bob i agree with you" or "rocket2guns @bill we are working on it" and you dont know what they are talking about. or theres links to a picture or video and you click it and its broken sorry but if i had a website dedicated to something I created, I would stop by more often even just to reply to something random or post something i was passionate about, rather than share that info with a small portion of the community through social networking

Change the M4A1 sound when shooting.

i thought a placeholder would be using an old sound, such as the m4 sound from the mod. that i would of been happy with, the current sound just seems quiet and weak, especially compared to the mod/arma 2 sound
  25. monolith1985

Poll: Are you happy with update news/management?

i answered no. im happy with the amount of information thats coming out, even though they could explain changes made to experimental etc. what im not happy about is that info being spread across several different social media, that not everyone uses, or wants to use. Especially joining one just for dayz, when there is a perfectly good, official, populated forum that gets completely ignored. They need a community manager, someone the team leaders pass on info to put on the official site, even the small things like new screenshots, planned features etc. I'm sure people would return to the game more often if they knew about things as they are added
