How to make death actually matter more
Ken Bean replied to Ziliphade's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I like the idea. So if you die in or near a town your body attracts some Zeds. What I don't like is the part with making the body unlootable. If there are Zeds around your body, you need to free in the very first place anyway. So you need at least a basic equipment, like a hatchet. -

How about writing a diary with screenshots for the char? And if he/she dies, it can be used for a slide show with some sad music. Nah, just kidding. :D But how do you want to make death actually matter more? I mean, more the emotional way or do you want to punish the player a bit? Just imagine, you spawn somewhere and get shot a few minutes later by a sniper with his AS50 lurking all day long near spawn points. Then you have to wait 30 minutes until this repeats. I think the sniper may have some fun, you probably not. -

I really do play video games for a long time now and this time out is sth I do not understand. I don't see how you get better immersed into the game by not being in it. -
Would this help me to get more fps in dayz?
Ken Bean replied to xnokiax8's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Frankly, I'm not very up-to-date in regards of AMD-Chips. The Athlon series is quite old, but still is/was pretty good, I believe. If I were you, I would buy better RAM - as if I would update my processor - in the very first place. Then try it out, look what happens. If that's not enough gain, consider to upgrade to a newer processor as well. Then you'd need to decide if you want to take a cpu which fits your sockel or if you want to upgrate the board as well. There still are loads of backround programs and the OS itself taking away RAM. -

I see. I thought he may want to achieve sth reasonable with this. ^^ Anyway, it doesn't add much to the realism level if you just make your cadaver unlootable for you. Maybe a perma death would come closer then. But you can make finding stuff way harder, removing tents and automatically losing items, survival skills you need to learn again and such things. -

Worst thing that handicaps team play are the communication system and that you cant make up teams. I know, most of the pros here are already using team speak channels, but you play in teams anyway. Others don't. One thing that really really kills most team action is that on many servers the direct and global chat functions are just plain disabled. This actually plays out like they would have forbidden to form a team for lots of player. Remember, most other user are not forum folks in the vast majority and they also hardly start using team speak stuff. Boils down to: - Group management system is needed - Communication system is needed - Ziliphade needs to learn better insults, since he sucks big stile at this. Then you still can add optional time outs for different difficulties or for being defined sever wise. -

Maybe. I wouldn't enjoy it. Maybe they add an option to define a time out, e.g. on veteran servers or whatever. Generally it's not a good idea in my book. Would have a better one. -

The game progress a player made would be a better catalyser. Edit It really would emphasise the team play a bit more. This would be a great thing. But the team mate would need to wait the time as well, ingame, maybe alone. 30 minutes time out? I don't know, maybe I'm just to new for the game for that. -
How to make death actually matter more
Ken Bean replied to Ziliphade's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Yeah I know. But trust me, your ideas are awful. Think about new people. It's quite frustrating enough without time outs. And not only for the new people. Forced time outs are not best fun times for everyone. A game should not be about frustrating people. Not only. ;D See the game has lots of other challanges. The late game for example is very week. You ran out of interesting tasks quite soon. This maybe even is a reason why so many people are cheating. 1. because its frustrating 2. because they dont know what to do else There also are still a lot of bugs. Zeds glitching through walls and stuff. Additional, you have loads of cheater and the server situation is not best. So I don't know what one would do to make this situation even worse by adding additional fun killer. The game can be played in very different ways. It's up to the player to create the challenges. If you always run to Cherno and die there, then again spawn in Cherno and so on, the death really does not matter much. I see. But this depends on how you play. Most thing that matters if you actually made a progress before you died. This hurts. I think your ideas might be good for a sm version, rally hardcore stuff, finding empty tin cans 99% of the time and so on. But I figure I wouldn't enjoy it very long. -

How to make death actually matter more
Ken Bean replied to Ziliphade's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Dude, know what I have to do to find my dead could body? I usually, have to travel almost once accross the whole map. And every time I just hope that there's still sth left and the cadaver is not hidden. Why should I even bother to find it if I couldn't loot it anyway? Coolest thing you can do to make death matter more? Survive until you get killed by a hacker on day 3. -
Does anyone actually cares about boiling water?
Ken Bean replied to Leto (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
One just needs to decrease the amount of filled soda cans you find ingame. It's easily boiled while cooking bacon. Almost one ride. -

Ken Bean replied to Leto (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I do. Usually carry a can of beens with me. In case I need to boil water, I just eat it and have an empty can. There are usually 1 or 2 canteens with mwe as well. I figure you don't need anti if you boil your water before drinking. Adds a little to the survival bee-eater feeling. -
Would this help me to get more fps in dayz?
Ken Bean replied to xnokiax8's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
In my experience, increasing RAM helps a lot. But since it seems to be DDR2 RAM, it should be better to go for a better CPU, new board and DDR3 RAM. Depends on how long you want to use your current rig. If you still want to use it for a while, go for 4 GB of RAM if the Bios supports that. (Should though). -
Hey folks, would someone please be so kind to test whether this server is joinable or not? 94.242.227.210:2362 There's an error popping up, I don't understand. Whenever I proceede to load clicking okay, I never get into the game: Is the problem on my side or is it the server? Thanks in advance, KB
-
Okay, so now I read a little at the wiki at bistudio.com. I still do not understand everything of that message but it seems to me that these are some variables for getting the position and to spawn a vehicle there. But I still don't understand what this has to do with me. Why am I getting this messege? I didn't try to cheat anything. Then it says "No entry 'bin\config.bin/CfgMarkerBrushes..." what config bin file does it mean? Is it a file on my computer that has a missing entry? Since there's no config.bin file in my Arma2 installation, I'd guess that is either somewhere else or packed in an archive. Do I need to worry about this file? Is there a problem with? Maybe a settings or security issue? I have some scenarios in my head that this file on my PC might be compared to the file on the server and they may not match or sth. Which may cause issues, I don't know. How is this working for DayZ? Does everyone such a message get? Is it a server problem or a client problem? Are these questions too easy or too complicated? :D Well, at least since there no one seems to be able to join the server, I may just forget anything about that from now on. Anyway, thanks.

Didn't anyone try to join a game on that server?

I'm not kicked as far as I can tell. It proceeds to load the character but fails, the screen stays black. As soon as I hit escape, I'm in an empty cell. I can make a screenshot of this. Edit This are all the stages that happen after clicking continue on that script message: Normal start, it counts to 40 http://www.loaditup....7xv5cd5zrf.html Then two messages are overblended: ("Sth went wrong, try again" and "charakter is being created" or sth like that) http://www.loaditup....ac2xtyd62k.html This one would stay forever: http://www.loaditup....e4zm5tupsr.html Until I hit escape, then I'm there: http://www.loaditup....5hq9qe3hmk.html The images are pretty smal, just a few kb. Note that the last image, is an empty cell, there should be a forest at the position I was last. Also note that I can't move or look around. The only thing working is the chat function. Do I get directed to somewhere else? Does the server not load the cell? I don't know what happened.

Nope, it's a legit Steam copy. Bough Arma X on their latest sales. Might be a hacking attempt. Such messages are pretty usual around though. Can they execute code on my pc or does that mean they hacked the server?

No entry 'bin\config.bin/CfgMarkerBrushes. local_publishObj = { _charID = _this select 0; _object = _this select 1; _worldspace = _this select 2; _className = _this select 3; _id = 0; and so on. Do you need the other 6 lines as well? It's just all rubish if you don't know the scripting language. I'm just experienced in modding Fallout games, this is an entirely different scripting language. I don't understand a single word. Maybe if someone just give me a hint, I'm entirely new to DayZ. I click continue, It loads, then it says it went something wrong I should try again, but then it says create character, like it would finally proceede, but nothing happens, only black screen. If I press Escape, I'm in an empty world space and can't move. The point is I already played there for a few days and have a Char and a tent there, enjoyed the server. We had a small team of 3 surviver and did a fairly good job taking out the monsters, big emotions and stuff. :-D Now, since maybe 5 days, I'm unable to connect to that server. Others work dandy. I have no idea why, just want to know is it the server or me what's bugging around. As said, I'm new to this, I dont know how it looks like if I'm banned (there would be no reason for anyway). maybe I configured my firewall wrong? So since I managed to install that mod, even with this steam install, and got high rez textures working of that PMC dlc, I thought before I start trying to install everything again, before I reconfigure my firewall and so on, I just ask someone, who already has DayZ (that's why I'm here): Hey, does that server work for you? Is it on me or ist it the server? Is there sth to do about? I figure, it might be the server. Probably just something went wrong and all the time no admin didn't notice anything.
