Absolutely approve Yandere Also I'd love to see this one: Name: Tired Joe Requirement: Dying in a heli, bike or car crash at least 20 times. Appearance: Helmet, fancy hero dress with cape. Additional Super Powers: Can jump out of driving vehicles without getting hurt. How it could look like: http://www.examiner....vel_Knievel.jpg

^^ But this one is serious: Name: Drughi Mo Requirement: Killing anyone, heros and bandits without a difference. Never killed an animal since for some reason it is against his believes. Holding cows for milk produktion. Appearance: White trousers, white shirt, black shoes, black hat, suspenders Additional Bonus: being sharp; needs no camo, wants to be noticed How it could look like: Rumors say, that you could hear the clockwork orange ticking in their presence. But no one is alife and stayed sane enough to tell.

Yep, happens frequently. It's not that you'd need to chop 10 thousand times, it can happen after 40 or 50 times. Might be a bug or feature, to make the hatchet more challengeing. Putting it to the belt and back, fixes it as well.

More sandbox Pvp then survival?
Ken Bean replied to Evilsausage's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The reason why I love veteran server btw: no name tags shown. Yes, should be tweaked, because it currently is too easy and has almost no drawbacks. In real life of cause it would have its drawbacks to shoot just the survivors of the apocalypse, out of all things. If it's not an attempt to extinct human kind, I would call it highly ineffective in order to survive. Bandits also have their place in this game, but they shouldn't be rewarded more than others. And sitting next an exit point of an airfield, throwing a grenade to that group that is leaving, would be very rewarding, if he wouldn't be able to loot the airfield alone instead. I also want to defend my play stile, which is being a lone wolf currently. I have no plans to team up just to raid the airfields and I probably won't do so. I like the idea better to team up for the sake of teaming up, not being forced to because of looting. Seems to be more frank and spontaneous. Another point is, that military bases are not unwalkable. What it makes it difficult is that these areas are guarded quite well. But these guards probably just turned into Zeds, making them less effective. The issue should not be getting in, but getting the gear in general. Weapons usually just don't use to lie in the open. Most of the time it's locked away or carried. We need a challenge for the PvP-player though. It's not changeing everything to just challenge everyone harder, because this doesn't turns the fact that PvP or banditry still does have its advantages over the other play stiles. -
More sandbox Pvp then survival?
Ken Bean replied to Evilsausage's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The problem I see here is that not every group of people is as keen as the other. Also, with superior tactics a survivor should be able to outsmart Zed solely on his own. Maybe there are youtube videos where a group of people is outsmarted by the zeds, though. But I wouldn't force people to team up just because of being able to loot the airfield. Playing a lone wolf is not bad and should be possible. In return lone wolfes already face a higher risk to get wounded deadly. -
Thanks. This happened literally exactly this way during the Battle of Thermopylae, if I remember correctly. After one dude slaughtered 300 Spartans, he wrote this to a stone. "Stranger, announce to the Spartans... " This was the true story. They just changed the numbers a bit. Not funny? Meh, thought so. ^^ Note to myself: Stop weird jockes.
-
If I ever read in chat: "Here is Darryl Dixon, survivor. Lost myself in a tough fight against 300 weird looking basterds. I have broken bones, no food, even lost my teeth and my Coyote Backpack. I'm out of blood, just dying slowly. But I beat all of them. Please tell my story, stranger. Tell them that here I lie, having fulfilled my orders." Then I may pack my backpack with a backpack. No one should die wouthout a backpack.
-
Yep, I'm all for this. Always bothered me that you couldn't take one with you. But you only should be able to pack them into a bp if they are empty and they should need some adequate space of cause.

Players should develop Mental illness
Ken Bean replied to TacticalTuna's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The thing is you decided to turn into a murderer because there is not much to fear besides of the bandit camo. Getting a mental illness is nothing you decide and you also don't decide how. If you don't want to be changed, don't do it. I also read a lot that the game is just boring and there's no challenge left once you geared up. Why not giving you a challenge? Why not being hunted down by your fears? Edit The problem is to implement it in a decent way. As said, I'm for using instanced encounter. Maybe the strange zed is hunting you, who's looking like the player you killed weeks ago? A heli is clearly flying over you, you try to hide, maybe firing back. No one else sees the heli, so for other eyes, you are behaving very strange. The night could be worse. DayZ is supposed to cause some fear, right? Maybe wolfe packs hunting bandits would give them occational reasons not to camp on sniper position for too long? Or on other days a very hard zombi horde is chasing you, which somehow can't be tricked around corners? Which somehow finds you everywhere? You'll need some meds to counter the effects. Meds which are only supplied by (certain ?) hospitals. Maybe we'll get a dedicated clinic? What we'd need is to have a nice variety of instanced encounter and they should be challengeing, but not rewarding. So after all no extra gear is being dropped. The bandit will lose some supplies, like ammo and maybe food and meds, to patch him up. The encounter itself should be made by the sick mind and therefore not being visible for other eyes, but still, it could look very legit for the bandit (and even may cause injuries?). If you join a team, it should be more difficult to play the friendly guy for a long time without showing some shadows. Yeah, this may sound good in theorie but I wonder how it would work in the game. ^^ -
Players should develop Mental illness
Ken Bean replied to TacticalTuna's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Lets say everyone has a basic chance to develop a mental illness and every time he shots someone (a survivor or a hero) he has a chance of 3% that it might break out. The effects could drastically increase depending on how often the chance was taken. To handle the effects (e.g. imagined shots, steps, flys as an indicator of a dead player, cars, helis, ... seeing things like other player, crashed helis ... generally hearing and spotting things that are not there, shaking, panicing, ...) the player needs to medicate himself. So he would need to carry way more meds aound. And there should be no indicator which says, you need your pills now. You just start hearing and seeing things. Way later shaking and panicing returns. The player could get fouled into strange situations. It should appear legit to him. Which also is interesting for group dynamics. If a bandit joins a group, maybe he's a killer and betrays them anyway, he could act strange and so he may reveal himself. "Lets head to the crashed heli." - "What heli??" If he really is in bad condition, should he even start to talk to himself? Making strange noises? Freaking out? But this would be pretty clear signs for the rest of the party. Keep in mind, medication temporary helps, just not 100%. Edit What about even really having crashed heli sights solely for him? Kind of instanced locations, even with Zeds - just without loot. Nicely done, mental illness could be the additional challlenge for PvP we were looking for. Edit I'd say instanced encounter are the way to go. Wouldn't it be cool to see a player running from a horde of Zeds which exists only in his mind? Shooting to nowhere, trying to sneak up the only for him existing heli crash, which doesn't have any loot? We'd need a bunch of encounter types, which player usually happen to encounter, for mental ill player instanced, but without loot chances. Maybe we could have side effects, like whisper in the night, shaking and so on, but that would be the obvious symptoms. To really kick in, we'd need some symptoms which are not obvious the the mental ill player. They need the thrill PvP brings? Give em more thrill. We need to bring them into more situations they need to deal with. E.g. "Phantom Killer Zeds" chasing them should be persistent and doing real harm. Wolfes hunting them, scaring the shit out of them at night. . We need a way how they get rid of their ammo. ;) -
Driving against them?
-
Not to forget the unholy hand granade (which kills absolutely no one but the guy who threw that thing) and of cause the insidious dear stands. I can hear them whisper: "Come up here, climb the ladder. And then crouch and prone." they say. And then you fall through handrails, which somehow didn't stop ya.

Maps or countries you would like to play in
Ken Bean replied to ThaFatBuddha's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Myanmar, sth tropic or mediteran could be a nice setting. What about Afrika or Australia? -
Can it be that most of you guys who suggest to make weapons way more rare just use to play a lot on private hives? Btw, I never found an AS50 in barracks. And if you make it to hard to get into those military bases, lets say you just have 2 or 3 entries, gues where all the AS50 dudes are waiting... Besides of that, there are some very sexy ideas.

More sandbox Pvp then survival?
Ken Bean replied to Evilsausage's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Jep, NVGs are very rare. But really dark nights are quite fun. If the server is empty and the pvp dudes are gone, flares can be found in almost every corner. They do make a nice light which can be seen extremely far though. So running around with flares on growded server may not be advised. ^^ Edit I'm for a mixture, like having bright nights and dark nights available. We shouldn't go and remove the dark nights just for ending up having everyone playing at night like it would be day. I'm more a night person, I wouldn't enjoy it. -

Yep, night is fun. I love to play with flares and chemlights. Those bright nights destroy the nighttime and flares, chem lights, flash lights and NVGs get rather useless. -
Death lurks around every corner in DayZ. Keep an eye on those horrific killer tents or they'll hunt you down.

I still think instanced bases is the worst thing you could do to Dayz.
Ken Bean replied to scaramoosh's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm certain, you are a little exaggerating the impact it may have. Instancing player hideouts is in my opinion the best way to go and I'm very glad that the devs made this decission. How many player are you expecting? One million, two, more? Okay, they'll not play one server only, but the space is limited. It's a huge map but not as huge to prevent crowding. I mean I've been almost everywhere on the map in a relatively short time. The world really could be larger. Such a structure would just scream "raid me" all day long. It would take 3 hours or so and the whole area around that structure would be covered by snipers. Player would spend their days lookin for/after them. Nope, I wouldn't build a base which is not kick ass hidden. At least I wouldn't place anything of value in. Maybe using it as trap, but not as stash. -
If player A shot player B, starting the fight and as long as B wasn't a bandit, player A has a logout timer of 10 minutes. In other words, a player is unable to logout for 10 minutes if he killed another survivor. This may help to reduce kill on sights as well as spawn camper. It also adds an additional challenge to PvP. --> If you attack a group, you may get tracked down by the them. --> They have a better chance to take revenge. --> Sniper will be forced to change their position. --> Since bandits are excluded, they have a disadvantage. --> It's harder to kill, one would need at least a plan of how to get away. Opinions?

Come on folks, don't be too hard, the game wants to be taken serious. It's advertised as survival game, it has some stats on iths website, which are supposed to mean sth. For most of us here it's just old news that cheater basically screw up the whole game. So after the 3rd time killed this way, we probably accepted it to a certain extent. But this doesn't change the fact, that other, maybe new player may still be very pissed. @OP There's nothing you can really do about, it certainly is not the last time this happens. But you could try signing up for a white listed server. The very friendly reaction here is just because it really doesn't surprise anyone.
-
I can understand the OPs point. Since DayZ is ought to be a survival game, it's quite odd to realize that you won't survive, doesn't matter how good you are. If this is the accepted way of the game, then don't call it survival game, call it a looting game.
