Another way of playing (SURVIVAL VS SHOOTER)

You also may need medical supplies. Forever just doesn't work without breaking bones and stuff.
  2. Absolutely support this. The game got pretty damn hard for fresh spawns. I mean, I have a ghillie, a NVG, a helicopter, a good share of tents quite spread. I found 5 heli crash sites today (nice new Mi-17 models btw), looted Vybor, Pustoshka and one Airfield. I had no problem finding food, even found medical supplies and a ammo crate at heli crash sites, but after all, the loot is a little low end. I found one Mk48 + ammo, 1 camo clothing, 1 engine parts, loads of soda and bandages, maybe 4 painkiller, 3 morphine, 1 Antibiotics. I shot 80 bullets with the Mk 48 and maybe 5 mags with the G17 and found none in return except one M9 mag and loads of DMR and SVD ammo in an ammo box at one of the heli crash sites, which makes me think, I'm outa ammo soon, at least for my secondary. I got infected once, got layed several times in Vybor (the town almost killed me ^^) and had to recover loads of blood, since sneaking after Zeds not really works well, if you are not going to prone, even at night. So yeah, have to say that the update changed the focus of many things. I believe there only is just one loot pile per heli, since I wasn't able to find more than one/heli crash site. The baracks and other known loot places deliver significant less loot, so most of the time I had the feeling that it wasn't worth the risk and time. Aggroed Zeds now are way harder to get rid off without violence. Atm I'm a little clueless what to do, I just take most ammo with me I can find, regardless of the type. This leads to the need to deposit it somewhere. Im out of tents and I didn't find any yet, so it's hard time to tell whats less important, since basically everything you need became much more rare. Bottom line, basically I like the shift of the focus which the update brought in, but you may either think about increasing at least some of the survivors needs which should be found more often or you decrease the infection rate and the Zed-Aggroing. Ammo for secondary weapons might be needed to be found more often. It hasn't a huge impact on pvp anyway.
  3. I found a heli crash site and searched it for 15 minutes before the server restarted. There was no loot where it used to be, I only found 1 MK 48 Mod and 1 mag for it (which is awesome) maybe 10 m behind. Furtheremore I found 1 Antibiotics on a pilot zed and something to eat on another one. It's interesting to see how zeds roam around the crash site, they no longer just walk away, they stick closer, which is good, effectively forces you to deal with them. But it's pretty difficult to find something if the area is covered with dense grass. So can you say a word what the maximum distance is in which the loot can spawn at heli crash sites? I think I read somewhere that one found stuff kind of like 80 m away. Maybe he exaggerated, but it would take ages to find a NVG under this circumstances. If you are looking for one, you'd probably never find it.
  4. There are other examples. You probably need 3 meals a day, right? How often you need to eat in DayZ? Maybe almost every 6 km? (guessing). That's there "make it harder" will lead to. Not necessarily to more realism. So yeah, some things can be "fixed" or changed, but most of the time, folks always say "make it harder". No one seems to bother what it means. Edit On the other hand you just need some game elements. You just can't make it real, or whatever you think of it is real. Yeah, getting food in the wild is a very hard job. Nope, getting food in a civilisation is not too hard. The civilasation in DayZ struggled. But you have the remains. What is so hard to accept the between? There must be a balance. It is a game which plays between both worlds, between the wilderness and a just fallen civilisation.
  5. The realism argument has its issues. It is a game and it just wont be very realistic in every detail. Just to pick out some things. Okay, you are driving a bicycle around, run into a Zed, it is destroyed. You drive into a lake, it is lost. You drive against some trees, it is broken. So in real life, how often you lost a bike in a lake? How often you destroyed it driving it against a Zed? Another point, broken bones. How often you broke something in real life? How often you fell from a dears stand because you had issues with trying to crouch? ... A game is a game, it has gameplay elements. Those make it more realistic, you actually can break your bones. The point is, would you make it realistic? Would you make it in a way that you almost never (hopefully, never say never) actually have a broken bone? Why would you? Its like implementing features for never using them. This leads to a chain. If you don't ever break it, why would you carry a cure around? Do you, in real life? Do you always have sth against broken bones in you pocket? Just in case ...? So the game in certain ways already is a bit harder as reality. Folks still demand to make it harder. This can be done, but the realism argument is one which not always works. In reality, there would be no Zeds at all. You only can ask: "Is this a cool feature we WANT to have?", because it might be an enrichment for the gameplay. Just to make the point clear, a feature should be measured of how it plays out gameplaywhise, not neccessaily in regards of the difficulty or realism only.
  6. Yep, had the same concerns regarding this. I thought KoS will raise the rarer the loot gets. But we can't foresee everything. Having concerns doesn't mean that they are valid in all detail. So it has been tried. And if it works in a way to reduce KoS, also in the long run, we have proof and the method worked out well. Edit Tweaking English I found two Anti at an airfield, I think. You have to be aware of the new infectous zed type. Don't let them come too close. Edit Found two windshields, several toolboxes (already have one), maybe 10 can of beans, an alice pack in a super market, AKM and ammo, 1 Ghilie, 1 tent in an ATV, 2 Anti, 1 Makarov, M240 rounds for my main weapon on a Zed, bandages, chemlights, flares ... although not anything for my secondaries, which would be M9SD or G17. The patch made me differentiate between Zeds. Those dirty ones are high priority targets. They are infectous and seems to have a better chance of loot. Also, just go north after you spawned. There seems to be nothing to be found in Cherno but death. ^^

    It's "an" not "a' RAZ0R

@OP I would definitely have written a M4 due to my rushed English to times. And regarding the title: it's still called "a RAZ0R", not "an RAZ0R". Or you missed a comma. Period.
  8. If theres a lot more friendly player interaction, then the update worked. The disappearing stuff bug is a bit older and probably has nothing to do with v1.7.7, at least I know it since 1.7.6.1. This may have to do with the beta patch version, dunno.

    Lootable Journals

Hey peeps, is there an insight to other players journals in planning? Lets say, if you find a surviver dead, will you be able to read what he did? If not, I'd suggest it. Might be interesting. Always loved to read other peoples diaries. >:D What do you think about?
  10. Ken Bean

    Heli crashes broken?

Yep, didn't happen to me with 1.7.7 yet, but with 1.7.6.1. So I try not to lay anything out of hand.
  11. Ken Bean

    Heli crashes broken?

I know, I was just kidding a bit. It probably is a bug which somehow doesn't render the item for you, others may still see it.
  12. Ken Bean

    Heli crashes broken?

Yeah, kick-ass camo. You put it on the ground and it has never been seen again. This also happened to me quite a lot. As I played in a group and I dropped a backpack which disapperad, we figured out that the backpack only was invisible for me. So chances are good that a team mate may save the things that vanished for ya.

    Lootable Journals

Then I'd agree. If he personally somehow marks the base, then, well, sh*t happens. Having a group management system which gives you an option to have a shared map with the group, would make things easier as well. So you could plan the next mischief without having everyone lurking.

    Lootable Journals

Jep, this would be used as base finder #1. ^^ So I'm not a fan of a detailed line tracker.

    Lootable Journals

Hmm, this actually would make the game stand out. Not certain if a mod could achieve somehing like this. Not having a clue about the engine but you'd probably need to code it into the exe. It also has its demands on traffic / data. Given that only a few have such tables, it wouldn't be used by anyone anyway. It would be avery nice to have, but the benefit probably would not justify the cost.

    Lootable Journals

Nice idea. Could be used to pass messages.^^ Didn't think about it, but sounds really cool. Maybe a personal version of the map should be added and the possability to make personal map markers, which only can be seen by others, if they get hands on your journal.

    Lootable Journals

According to the mockup here, it has some data. If you read it, you'll know if the player drunk a mountin dew, you'll know if he was a good guy or a bad guy. The number of player kills will tell you how bad he was, you'll know how long he lived, the name, maybe places he came along... Its a lot, makes things more personal. Maybe there even could be room for making notes. The second image strongly suggests it.
  18. The update is good. It made a lot of very nice improvements. I love the item numbers which are shown at tents, so you always know, what fits in. Combining magazines is another feature I fell in love with. The new journal is just beyond awesome. It ads so much to the game. If you have other opinions on certain elements, fine, try to voice them kindly without just questioning everything. This is really hard and tough work. There went a lot of work, love, knowledge, time and probably a bit of pain in. Modding games just somehow uses to faces you with problems everywhere. **Suggestion** How about making journals lootable? What if you could read other peoples journales. If you find a dead survivor, you could read it and learn who he/she was.
  19. Point. I accidentaly discovered a Makarov which was invisible. I couldn't see it but I had it on the crosshair. Maybe some people who don't find anything usefull have a BETA patch problem? Awesome catch, if this is true. Edit My patch version is 105785 and I have an invisible Makarov to confirm and on video. I can load it up to youtube if needed, would just need a bit of time. Edit Nope, nonsense, watched the video more closely and the Makarov was there, just almost impossible to see with the NVG. Edit There is a screenshot: http://www.loaditup....kzr2hnengr.html
  20. I may add that I'm not complaining about patch 1.7.7. I played maybe 2 or 3 hours on a public and a private server. One session wide in the north NE Airfield, one just in Cherno. I'm fine with the changes the patch made and I really consider it very good work. One thing that might should be tweaked is to lower the chance of getting kickt off your feet a bit. Unarmed survivor have little fun, maybe. If you have a weapon, you can avoid it. I'm fine with the loot, can't make up a final opinion, since I haven't played that much. I decided to give it some time. What strange is, are some posts in the thread here. If someone wonders, why a constructive discussion is a bit difficult, there's a reason for. I just imagine that the reason they changed the loot in cherno or electro (two towns I most of the time completely avoided) is, to get the folks out of that town and to spread it a bit over the rest of the game world. But if you ask me: Should the loot in the entire world be as useles as in cherno, I'd say please don't. I need a reason to go into a town. I want to find sth useful. That's the reward for the risc you take. I don't want to constantly take high riscs without a payout. Edit Sorry for bad English. :-/ Edit So the point is, in real life, what would you do? Would you go into a zombie crowded town? Would you risc your life (mind, you only have one) because you just need sth very important, lets say Antibiotics, which you expect to find in a hospital. So if the town is just "almost empty", why should you risc your life? You go in, get infected, almost killed, you shot 2 magazines, found 1 in return, no food and don't even find Antibiotics? This point might be a little frustrating. So at least some useful stuff should be there. If you learn that you find anything you need elsewhere, you probably just don't go into a town any longer. Then you life in the woods all day...
  21. This might be right in certain cases, but just believe me, there are points there things get ridiculous. "Things" (items) in the game is a part of the game. This are the tools you play with. I just want to say, the less tools you have to play with, the more boring it gets. Its like theres just a chair in your room and someone constantly says: "The less, the better." If you want to be looking for sth the whole day, go play Diablo 3. If you want to play in an "empty" world, there already ist one: the editor. I'm not saying "you guys are entirely wrong. I'm just saying: Try to stay reasonable.
  22. Why must you guys always exaggerate? How about removing the loot entirely? What are you going to do then? Slowly starving to death? The first who moves dies first? Such statements don't do any good. The game needs at least some useful loot. Believe it.
  23. Okay, thanks. I just wondered because Insert all the time worked for me and now nothing was showing up. So going to controllst and binding "Action 20" fixed it for me. @DayZ Team You should mention the Action 20 thing somewhere. I think I read through the whole changelog and dont recall something mentioned there.
  24. Besides of the fun part in bold, I'd agree. Every game intents to be fun. This is the nature of games. Well, if you can't win a game, one should at least have some satisfaction, or "reward", aka loot. If DayZ wouldn't be fun for you, you wouldn't play it. But the changes the patch made are not bad. I haven't played much enough to give an opinion but my first impression is positive. It changes a lot, first time I run through cherno and didn't find anything usefull before I died bleeding and ill, I was a little disappointed. I found a gun but way too less ammo, got trapped in a room and have been knocket out a lot. My concern is, that I run out of supplies sooner or later. So I probably need to switch weapons a lot. Only can use the weapon I may find ammo for. With my public hive char I have a M9 SD, can I use it or should I just throw it away? Edit Uh, and very important: Is there the journal I was looking for most? If so, how can I open it?
  25. In my experience "being friendly at all costs" just leads to nowhere. You should know that theres a third faction of players, which is pretty strong in Dayz, which are neither Bandits nor Survivor, they come really close to Trolls. So the game somehow is a Troll's game. (This also is sth most of the hacker/cheater are doing, trolling the hell out of the game. They troll the forums, the devs, the player, probably everything they come accross). So if you are friendly at all cost, you'll sooner or later make an idiot out of yourself. And I also constantly meet people who confuse friendliness with idioty. To be frank, I never meet such a huge pile of strange, shady, twisted minds like in DayZ. Some even seem to demand to be shot. I had several people, who seems to be friendly at first, who gave me no choice not to shot them later. I even already got "accidentaly" shot by mindfucking bandit-friends (trolls) who kind of "optained permission to be an ass" in advance. (As if it would make a difference to be allowed to be an ass. Totally weird. Like: "What do you think of bandidits?" - "Well, somehow have their justification" - 5 minutes later you get rob-shot from the same guy who claimed to be friendly since days... I really asked myself why some do such weird things? I think they are just enjoying trolling. They enjoy to frustrate your trust. They want to earn it first before they betray you. For them even the loot is subordinated, betraying you is reward enough. And the game allows that and gives them a vent.)
