    Lootable Journals

Hmm, this actually would make the game stand out. Not certain if a mod could achieve somehing like this. Not having a clue about the engine but you'd probably need to code it into the exe. It also has its demands on traffic / data. Given that only a few have such tables, it wouldn't be used by anyone anyway. It would be avery nice to have, but the benefit probably would not justify the cost.

    Lootable Journals

Nice idea. Could be used to pass messages.^^ Didn't think about it, but sounds really cool. Maybe a personal version of the map should be added and the possability to make personal map markers, which only can be seen by others, if they get hands on your journal.

    Lootable Journals

According to the mockup here, it has some data. If you read it, you'll know if the player drunk a mountin dew, you'll know if he was a good guy or a bad guy. The number of player kills will tell you how bad he was, you'll know how long he lived, the name, maybe places he came along... Its a lot, makes things more personal. Maybe there even could be room for making notes. The second image strongly suggests it.
  4. The update is good. It made a lot of very nice improvements. I love the item numbers which are shown at tents, so you always know, what fits in. Combining magazines is another feature I fell in love with. The new journal is just beyond awesome. It ads so much to the game. If you have other opinions on certain elements, fine, try to voice them kindly without just questioning everything. This is really hard and tough work. There went a lot of work, love, knowledge, time and probably a bit of pain in. Modding games just somehow uses to faces you with problems everywhere. **Suggestion** How about making journals lootable? What if you could read other peoples journales. If you find a dead survivor, you could read it and learn who he/she was.
  5. Point. I accidentaly discovered a Makarov which was invisible. I couldn't see it but I had it on the crosshair. Maybe some people who don't find anything usefull have a BETA patch problem? Awesome catch, if this is true. Edit My patch version is 105785 and I have an invisible Makarov to confirm and on video. I can load it up to youtube if needed, would just need a bit of time. Edit Nope, nonsense, watched the video more closely and the Makarov was there, just almost impossible to see with the NVG. Edit There is a screenshot: http://www.loaditup....kzr2hnengr.html
  6. I may add that I'm not complaining about patch 1.7.7. I played maybe 2 or 3 hours on a public and a private server. One session wide in the north NE Airfield, one just in Cherno. I'm fine with the changes the patch made and I really consider it very good work. One thing that might should be tweaked is to lower the chance of getting kickt off your feet a bit. Unarmed survivor have little fun, maybe. If you have a weapon, you can avoid it. I'm fine with the loot, can't make up a final opinion, since I haven't played that much. I decided to give it some time. What strange is, are some posts in the thread here. If someone wonders, why a constructive discussion is a bit difficult, there's a reason for. I just imagine that the reason they changed the loot in cherno or electro (two towns I most of the time completely avoided) is, to get the folks out of that town and to spread it a bit over the rest of the game world. But if you ask me: Should the loot in the entire world be as useles as in cherno, I'd say please don't. I need a reason to go into a town. I want to find sth useful. That's the reward for the risc you take. I don't want to constantly take high riscs without a payout. Edit Sorry for bad English. :-/ Edit So the point is, in real life, what would you do? Would you go into a zombie crowded town? Would you risc your life (mind, you only have one) because you just need sth very important, lets say Antibiotics, which you expect to find in a hospital. So if the town is just "almost empty", why should you risc your life? You go in, get infected, almost killed, you shot 2 magazines, found 1 in return, no food and don't even find Antibiotics? This point might be a little frustrating. So at least some useful stuff should be there. If you learn that you find anything you need elsewhere, you probably just don't go into a town any longer. Then you life in the woods all day...
  7. This might be right in certain cases, but just believe me, there are points there things get ridiculous. "Things" (items) in the game is a part of the game. This are the tools you play with. I just want to say, the less tools you have to play with, the more boring it gets. Its like theres just a chair in your room and someone constantly says: "The less, the better." If you want to be looking for sth the whole day, go play Diablo 3. If you want to play in an "empty" world, there already ist one: the editor. I'm not saying "you guys are entirely wrong. I'm just saying: Try to stay reasonable.
  8. Why must you guys always exaggerate? How about removing the loot entirely? What are you going to do then? Slowly starving to death? The first who moves dies first? Such statements don't do any good. The game needs at least some useful loot. Believe it.
  9. Okay, thanks. I just wondered because Insert all the time worked for me and now nothing was showing up. So going to controllst and binding "Action 20" fixed it for me. @DayZ Team You should mention the Action 20 thing somewhere. I think I read through the whole changelog and dont recall something mentioned there.
  10. Besides of the fun part in bold, I'd agree. Every game intents to be fun. This is the nature of games. Well, if you can't win a game, one should at least have some satisfaction, or "reward", aka loot. If DayZ wouldn't be fun for you, you wouldn't play it. But the changes the patch made are not bad. I haven't played much enough to give an opinion but my first impression is positive. It changes a lot, first time I run through cherno and didn't find anything usefull before I died bleeding and ill, I was a little disappointed. I found a gun but way too less ammo, got trapped in a room and have been knocket out a lot. My concern is, that I run out of supplies sooner or later. So I probably need to switch weapons a lot. Only can use the weapon I may find ammo for. With my public hive char I have a M9 SD, can I use it or should I just throw it away? Edit Uh, and very important: Is there the journal I was looking for most? If so, how can I open it?
  11. In my experience "being friendly at all costs" just leads to nowhere. You should know that theres a third faction of players, which is pretty strong in Dayz, which are neither Bandits nor Survivor, they come really close to Trolls. So the game somehow is a Troll's game. (This also is sth most of the hacker/cheater are doing, trolling the hell out of the game. They troll the forums, the devs, the player, probably everything they come accross). So if you are friendly at all cost, you'll sooner or later make an idiot out of yourself. And I also constantly meet people who confuse friendliness with idioty. To be frank, I never meet such a huge pile of strange, shady, twisted minds like in DayZ. Some even seem to demand to be shot. I had several people, who seems to be friendly at first, who gave me no choice not to shot them later. I even already got "accidentaly" shot by mindfucking bandit-friends (trolls) who kind of "optained permission to be an ass" in advance. (As if it would make a difference to be allowed to be an ass. Totally weird. Like: "What do you think of bandidits?" - "Well, somehow have their justification" - 5 minutes later you get rob-shot from the same guy who claimed to be friendly since days... I really asked myself why some do such weird things? I think they are just enjoying trolling. They enjoy to frustrate your trust. They want to earn it first before they betray you. For them even the loot is subordinated, betraying you is reward enough. And the game allows that and gives them a vent.)

New patch coming soon to dayz

I think you are getting it wrong. The game does not allow or disallow things based on ethics, it just reflects your way. So if you murder 1000 people, people may get an idea of you. So they can judge you better based on their ethics. If they think they are cool with, then they still just can leave you alone. I think it's also absolutely okay to reflect the way a player went through. If you chose to be an ass or angel, then you have the right that it somehow makes a difference, even if it's just cosmetic in nature. Ethics just doesn't disappear with a zombi apocalypse. It's still there, even in your own head. => If you chose to be an ass, you probably know best. ;-) Edit Btw, I love the new mockup! Such things really enrich the game. Giving a diary, which is more believable (a surviver would try to document his way) and adds more depth and immersion to the game, even enhances role play after all.

    Earning Persistent Gear in SA

What's the point in kicking and banning when a friend can save the gear? Just for handicaping lone wolfes? You know that it is not nice in everyones eyes to be set in disadvantages against other player who play in teams/clans...

    Earning Persistent Gear in SA

Earning persistent skins or tatoos could also be seen different. It's all about the views people have. E.g., if you think, that keeping tatoos or skins is unlogical, why do you think it is more logical that every survivor starts having the same few skins? Why do you think, it might be more immersive, that noone ever starts with a tatoo? Because everyone just starts tatooing himself a few months after a zombi apocalypse happened? You see, such things always have two sides and a huge problem can be made up out of nothing. It's just the peoples view they developed. Some think, it is not right, to have tents which survive the owners death. Others may think, why should a tent die with you? Why should items be destroyed? This is not logical as well.

    Earning Persistent Gear in SA

The problem really is that you get used to the game world and that you'll have after life knowledge which may help the new char quite a great deal. But on the other hand, this afterlife knowledge is sth every player will have. So it's not really an unfair advantage. A huge random generated world would be interesting, but it should be quite hard to develop for a title like DayZ. Would be easier with worlds which would be not persistent at all.

    Earning Persistent Gear in SA

Well, you cant have a persistent world if you reset just anything you did. So yeah, certain items might still be there and will not be destroyed. Since the items are not yours and basically everyone can use them, it would be strange to destroy all the items you may have touched. Your last character will leave some marks, so to speak. But besides of the fact that these maks and items don't die with you, you actually die when you die. There is nothing that could be done to make your last character more than permanently dead. And this is how death in DayZ already works. Yes it is permanent, you start an entirely new character, you are not reincarnated or sth. The game already has perma death. The only issue some people have is that each character leaves some traces in a persistent world. So what, why not? If that's your concern, you should request items and tents to not to be persistent (or not for you or sth like that). But this already has been discussed. -> If you destroy all your stuff, then the bandit who hunted you down will not be amused, since he feels betrayed for his loot. -> If you make your stuff from your last char inacessible only for you, then there still would be the ability to recover your gear if you play in a team, so another player could save the gear for you. Either way, some folks will either get around the item restrictions anyway or they player who tracked you down will lose his reward. Another option would be to kick the player from the server and guide him to another random one, but this would make teamplay impossible. Skill systems can be done in very different ways. I wouldn't say that every skill system will break immersion. That's either nonsense or your understanding of the term immersion is very different from mine. It even can increase the immersion, this depends how it would be implemented.

    Earning Persistent Gear in SA

How does a skill system break immersion? May I ask you what do you think what perma death means? Player died ---> global ban?
  19. Sorry to say so, but your weird assumption couldn't be more wrong. The real reason is that 1st person is annoying as hell for the most time. If they would improve the aiming in 3rd person, many would favour it over 1st person. Btw Many games today sadly do not deliver a ability to switch into 3rd or 1st person mode, which is an awesome feature of Arma 2. So why taking away a feature that makes the game outstanding? Because everyone loves the average trash and hates cool features? Na, comeon, there are loads of people who love to run around in 3rd person, there's no reason to take it away, except that peeking around corners thing. Just imagine how aweful limited your perception is in the 1st person compared to your perception in real life.
  20. I don't think it would be too complicated to implement a function which gets the LOS from the head's position while you are in 3rd person. The head already turns around if you freelook left or right, so if you stand in front of a wall, the npc/player behind it would not be in the line of sight of the head and could be hidden for 3rd person view. Difficult might be things which could be seen not entirely, but lets say half. -> Should they be rendered full or half? Wouldn't it look strange? :-/

New patch coming soon to dayz

Since I actually managed to find my first AS50 at a heli crash site today, after playing almost 4 months btw, I see this point critical. :D
  22. I would be okay with hiding player or npcs which are not in the line of sight of the first person view. Would at least be a solution.

    DayZ Standalone, Freelook, Third Person

Yep, some freedom and variety of game play offers way more fun. I also don't get why some consider the first person view as being so much more immersive. Immersion goes way beyond the first or third person view discussion. A game is immersive as long as the whole gameplay, world feedback, NPCs, graphics, sounds, physics, game logic, atmosphere etc truely deliver a very believable universe. The game universe can be entirely different from ours but it must be compelling and convincing. I played many 1st person titles which where not immersive at all. First person in DayZ to me allways feels like wearing blinkers. Not fun at all, but good in combat while you are closely focusing on your target anyway. But running from Cherno to the airfilds just would be a pita.

    Earning Persistent Gear in SA

The loot is supposed to be the reward. If you walk into a town, what's the reason for? Yep, finding loot. It's a very important part of the game. That's why I don't understand the folks that constantly request the loot to be reduced. If you'd remove or drasticaly lower the loot spawns, the only remaining reward would be player kills. (Other pvp online shooter have no loot at all. Guess what they are doing the whole day. ;)) Regarding the achievements of earned start gear like a map or compas, it would just give you a reason less to go into a town. So my suggestion would be to increase the overall ammount of valuable items which can be found. We would have a longer gearing up time and more items to play with. Technicaly you are not looting "yourself". You just start fresh being a new survivor. If you are not familar with the game and if you died far away from your starting point, you most likely won't ever try to find the old char, since running straight from south to north can take 45 minutes. Without knowledge of the map and good skills in navigating, it even may take way longer. Also, you don't know if the body is still there and unlooted.

    Weather effects which

Hi peeps, recently I thought about weather effects which temporary change the environment and might be an additional threat for your fellow survivor. So what do you think about dynamic weather effects like tornados that could be able to make a swath of destruction through a wood area and may also destroy tents and light buildings on their way? What about rain periods which lead to flooded areas and swelling rivers which also could destroy tents and bildings nearby? Are there other weather effects you want to see as well? Feel free to discuss.
