To Everyone Complaining About 1.7.7
Ken Bean replied to NovaDose's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
What is so difficult to understand that they have a bug in and that they try to find the right balance? Well, go on on "carebears and crybabies won" but reality is that there will be another update anyway. Do you really think, that the mod as it is now, stays so forever? They call it alpha for a reason. There have been plenty of updates. I didn't hear someone saying "It's final now.". Did you? -
Why do people store gear?
Ken Bean replied to Composite Armour's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Took me a while to get there.^^ Relying on tent just is a waste of time. I now destroyed all my tents on other server and it feels right. -
Why do people store gear?
Ken Bean replied to Composite Armour's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Just took my hatchet and destroyed the tents. The gear in there sadly wasn't that wothy, they almost left nothing, maybe 60 items of middle-low value, I'd guess. I wish I could have destroyed everything before. But some meat, ammo and vehicle parts were still there. I also dropped my M4A1 SD. Now, who ever that was, has to fuc'ing find it himself. Was quite satisfying, should have done it earlier. -
Why do people store gear?
Ken Bean replied to Composite Armour's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Since all of my wide spread tents on a server have been robbed within a day (How did they do it? They are hidden as heck. They must have had a vegetation hack or sth. They took all the precious. Antibiotics, rare guns and ammo and left their shitty SVDs.) I really don't know. Basically it's just like stashing up for other people. Also repairing helicopters is just like doing it for others. All of this gets stolen anyway, so really, storing items has no point. Since I play there's literally nothing I would have kept, but the worthles loot. Have been robbed a thousand times or lost it due to bugs. Everything gets stolen. There are folks which does no other. I'd really appreciate if the Stand Alone would offer an unrobbable, save base. Otherwhise I don't really know any longer why on earth I would search for loot and store it. Considering the new tent placement system, I see no light. It's probably even way easier. I often hear the folks which claims that they don't care about loot. Well, I do. It's what most of the time I'm doing: searching for loot. So of cause I care about it. I wouldn't KoS only because of that, but the majority does. So in fact, almost everyone cares about the loot. Those who are seeking for (and actually play the game as intented, trying to make their way through towns etc hour for hours) and those who are robbing or killing for. I'm at apoint where I'm feed up with. I learned that the survival game doesn't want you to survive. It only wants you trying. There's nothing to win. There's nothing to keep. It's an endless new beginning. And all what you do, at the end of the day, there's a troll is enjoying it. So after all, if you don't have anything, you can't lose it. -
Did I just hear base building? =)
-
I basically like the loot and also think it has been increased with the patch(?). The problem I have is the infection / cure thing, which somehow was/is a bit weird. Thanks though. :)
-
As a side note, contrary to the KoS thing because "I don't want to loose my gear" many player claim that they couldn't care less about their gear. Two things which don't fit very well together, one may figure. ^^ But yes, a charackter development system could help.

Why don't people leave the coast?
Ken Bean replied to victusmortuus's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't know, but I don't see it as disadvantage. The more that stay in Cherno, the better for those who travel north. -
Not sure if this already have been reported but the machete is bugged. - The first time you are taking it directly into your main weapon slot from where you found it, you need to hit G to make it usable. - If I put it into the backpack, it uses 6 slots, as being a secondary weapon. - You can't put it intp your toolbelt directly, it only works indirectly; e.g. if you remove your hatchet from the toolbelt, the machete is added to it.

I think they set the chance to find antibiotics to 0.01 almost everywhere (including hospitals, med spawns in general, etc). To get healed by resting in a tent also should now be at 0.01. However, they decreased the infection rate. Edit Giving tents a chance of 1 percent each 5 minutes to cure infections indeed is close to pointless. Can't imagine that one really counts with that. How about setting the antibiotics spawn chance to 0.03?

It has been said that this is a bug and that finding the correct balance will take some time. Don't say that you expected 1.7.7.1 to be final. ^^
-
There seems to be at least one bug - I got unconscious several times but didn't fall over, the character just stood there, until the timers was gone. Then I run a bit and fall down. - Another bug which happened to me with 1.7.7 was that the infection was cured by resting in a tent, until I logged out. After I logged back in, the infection was back. (happened on a private hive two times)

Yeah, Zeds now are fast and persistent. It's possible to lose them though. Easiest way to get rid of them is in buildings. A barn will do the job. The other way is to run into a dense tree line and to crouch as soon as you enter. You also can make sharp turns. I lost aggroed Zeds by using two trees and running from one to the other, switching to crouch mode and back, but you may need to try longer. Those infective monkey Zeds seems to be more difficult to get rid of. I once had two of them chasing me for 10 minutes. Upright Zeds are a bit easier to lose and also have the habit to die falling from time to time, a good slope can be enough. Quite funny actually. I'd suggest you not to switch back but to try survive. I know, its frustrating but after I died maybe 10 times and starting from scratch, I feel like getting the trick. With my current char I now played almost 4 hours and basically have everything I need, which is knife, hatchet, tool box, matches, binoculars, 1 water bottle, a makarov and some ammo, a map, an alice pack, camo clothing ^^ and last but not least, a tent, which I found just in time before I got infected. If you rest at a tent, there's a chance to get rid of the infection, which worked after a dozen trials. Now I was a bit hunting with my trusty hatchet, since I was quite low on blood, and have maybe 10 pieces of meat. So now I'm gona find a nice place to stay and to stock some food. If I have the tent full, I'm going to seek my fortune. in a radius around the tent which allows me to go back and maybe treat an infection. I need some medical supplies anyway, I don't have anything to cure a broken bone. Yes, it is very difficult with those zeds. If they nailed you in a house with only one entry, you are lucky if you have a hatchet. They constantly spawn new and follow the noise if you are shooting. Also don't face them in the open, they are faster than you, just run from one side to the other, leaving low chances to hit them. But it is fun, really feels like a survival game. One needs to think more, rashed playing no longer works, better think twice, better don't take unneccessary riscs, gearing up now is a major part of the game - which is more fun after all. -
What you guys think about the new update?

And I have no problem with yours, since actually, I don't see a difference between yours and mine. As I read an earlier post of yours you as well seems to have the feeling that atm, it is a tad too much. Besides of that, I love the patch and changes should be minimal. Anyway, every discussion here seems to evolve into some kind of contest. There are some extreme positions being made which sometimes just let me wonder if we all really are playing the same game. Some even seem to find more loot than with version 1.7.6.1. Again, the loot is not my concern, but as said, sometimes I just wonder. I'm not going to make any post in this thread any more. Made my points and leave it be. -

Meanwhile folks seems to change loot tables and stuff. Just played on certain "vanilla" server where it was no issue to find gear and zombies were as aggro as on 1.7.6.1. How can I tell if it is one? The mission file downloaded varies from 41 kb to 166. It's strange if you got used to T1000 Zeds and get those softer versions instead. ^^ -

You didn't say that, but where's the whole pointless casual discussion coming from, if nobody means it? I see that Zeds are a bit Terminator like, do things which are a little akward, actually forcing player to melee fight indoor only. It even can be fun trying to outsneack an aggroed Zed for 10 minutes, but as soon you are infected, fun is over. -

Zeds also kick me of my feed while running. While the player not even can switch weapons without standing still. Every player action takes ages. You can't stand up fast, can't switch weapons fast, if you accidentaly hit V or B, you lose lots of time... On the other hand they run and hit with ease. Imho, they are clearly overpowered. Would be okay without the hight infection rate. It feels not really balanced well. Zeds are way too fast. Not just running, also with their attacks. They clitch through ladders and do anything to be an unpredictable target. A machete is a nice weapon and at least indoors very helpfull. If it wouldn't miss that much... -

Now you are calling me a troll? Wow, excuse me my friend, but maybe next time try to make a post without personal insults, thanks. -

I clearly said that what I want and you tried to pull me into the "CoD" corner. Maybe a little self criticism, before you go on another time on me, would be not bad in my opinion. Have you even read my post? Tried to understand what I was saying? Yeah, this exaggeration thing going on gets really out of hand. When did I say anything nearly into that direction??? -

Ken Bean replied to grimsonfart's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No, I already said what I want. I want the Zeds to be nerfed a bit especially the infective ones. Just stop playing the ultra hard dude. We all already know that some of us survived 20 days with empty tin cans only, since the patch is out. -

Yeah, the only working way to fight melee is in a house. (Still think this is kind of wrong, isn't it?) Last time I got infected it was at a dears stand. Yes, thank you for your proposal, I'll throw all my loot away and from now on only carry empty tin cans in my whole inventory. Who needs food, morphine, painkillers, soda cans and ammo anyway? Ill just take tin cans instead. You are stumbling so often over morphine that I just throw it away as I find it to make room for empty tin cans... It's a multi tool weapon. Does everything you need. Everyone knows that empty tin cans is everything you need to survive a zombie apocalypse. You can even make mobile phones out of it. -

That's true, but with 1.7.7 it shifted to another death match, now the infecting Zeds are the true killer. A survival game should give you a chance to survive. People will lose interest in a survival game which doesn't let you survive. In my opinion Zeds should be nerfed a bit down, since they are too many and in certain points better than you. The melee system now is pretty much on a point where you don't stand a chance in the long run. 3 hits can be enough to sign your death sentence. Zeds are faster than you, can walk through walls and certain fances and they seem to be able to look through walls as well. The only thing that might save you is to prone. (Time you don't have if infected.) And last but not least, they are many and they roam around loot. So after all, you'll have to face them. Given said chances to be infected, you are practically dead starting playing. -

Ken Bean replied to grimsonfart's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
True, but get go on a private hive which is rather vanilla and where you not own a base, just try to survive. You'll find loot, but I had 6 trials until I got the basic equipment for surviving (hatchet, matches, knive) and was still missing a water bottle. Then I got infected and what ever you do, if you don't find Antibiotics (very likely), you'll just die soon, as I did 5 times before. If you are playing a character which is "settled", it is still a threat, but it can be dealt with, since you dont need to let them close. In melee fights, you have no chance without getting infected. Zeds are too fast, they run around you as you try to hit. It's like they are faster than you and can better hit. The same time, you can be infected within 3 hits. Taken this together, you not really have a chance. Maybe you can outsneak them, but who has the patience? They are everywhere. -

Hey, tell you what? I found yesterday 2 NVGs. Not on a heli crash (searched really a lot), but on a survivor I found dead in a town. Since I know how easily they can be lost and since I know how hard they are to come by, even worse with 1.7.7, I would never go into the forum and demand "The loot should be much rarer." only because I had a lucky day. What do you guys want? That noone ever will find NVG again? Are you then happy?
