First vs Third Person Discussion (Dslyecxi video)
Ken Bean replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
And I completely don't get why you 1st person folks just cant seem to see anything else in 3rd person but exploits. I absolutely don't get your views. I think I played DayZ long enough to know that if you want to shoot sth, to use 1st person. Because this is WAAAYY easier to aim and to hit sth. Exploit? -

Both views have advantages and disadvantages. Using the right view at the right moment just is another challenge. ;-) -

Not really unrealistic. But if Im not mislead I think you cant land that fast in Dayz without damaging sth. You also can drive a car if you blind two third of your windshield. It's just meh. Thats why they dont do it. -

Dude, I flew countless times. To really land a heli in a nice spot, you need 3rd p since you absolutely cant tell where you really are without. Maybe the altitute you'll get from the armatures. That not really is a problem. But I landed a hue on the roof of a castle several times and believe me, in 1st person only, you'll not feel like knowing where you are. In real life, you clearly have other problems to face than just not being able to figure out your position in a room. This may sound a little strange, but just knowing where you are is sth which really is build in to humans. Maybe it's a remnand from our ape-like ancestors but we just have an awesome self awarenes in almost every situation in almost every enviroment. Not because of the zeds, but maybe because of natural enemies. If there's a dude somewhere in a radius which can be overseen, you'll spot him. (We for the moment just ignore those awesome abilities to hide and cover - which zeds most of the time dont even try.) -

Yeah, you almost can't tell where you are in 1st person. In real life you can easily say so. That's why the 3rd person view gives you a little back in regards of self awareness. In return it almost makes you completely unable to fight. Yeah, I tried so as well and I clearly have to say that not to have a 3rd person view annoys me in almost every game. Maybe I'm too old but I play games since more than 20 years and I can tell: I love 3rd person. Old games most of the time didn't even have a 1st person view. It's like every analog game from monopoly to chess: There's no 1st person and they are immersive as well and thats good and no issue. -

The game is not easier in 3rd p. Zeds are as same as hard as in 1st person. Everything is identical to 1st person. Its clearly not a different game. One thing which is different is, you have a better self awarenes of your char and better oversight. You don't feel so cut off, like in 1st person, which actually realy a let down in regards of awareness. And no, 1st person is not realistic. Its like only having one eye instead of two. As said and pointed out. Everyone has the same opportunity to switch from 1st to 3rd person and the other way round. No one has an advantage. Everyone has the same abilities. So under the bottom line, being able to switch two 3rd p is fair for everyone since everyone on such a server can do it. And yes, in real life you actually can "quickly and easily scan for zombies". Its not like they could sneak behind you if you actually use you ability to look through your eyes and turn the head a bit, using ears and stuff. Ever played foodball or soccer? Yes, you know where they are. You have a better oversight but on the other hand you cant figh't properly in 3rdp. You'll not hit if you stand more than 3 m away and maybe move a bit. With the same right you could say "It's just and only the 1st persons view fault! If there were no 1st person, every fight would be equal." (We all have two views, so what? Result is the same.) So yes! I say its all the 1st persons fault. Remove it and we have a perfectly balanced game with equal chances. Prove me wrong if you can. :P -

That's scientifically questionable if we presume that most obese specimens don't even have a third person mode. (In rl for most people the 3rd person view already is disabled by default.) -

Nope, I go to a less populated with 3rd person view and without the nameplates being shown. I do this because I don't like server which doesn't let me switch the person and because nameplates feel a bit like a cheat. (I know that folks just always turns the mousewheel, which makes it impossible to hide things.) So here you are wrong, player don't always go to the full servers where the heat is pvp whise. Some of them, like me, love to play on almost empty servers at night with loads of flares and stuff. You just can't do that on full servers without frequently being killed. Edit So I think people may like those servers which offer the 3rd person view better. If it would be a disadvantage, they'd go back to 1st-p-only. -

Truth is, no one would complain about 3rd person if it wouldn't mean an advantage in certain corner camper situations. -

But I do switch from 3rd person to 1st person even in single player games like hell. And if someone would remove the 3rd person from Fallout New Vegas, I would extremely disappointed. Being bound to 1st person only is just rubbish in my feel. Cuts off half of the fun. I know, you guys think its unfair but netheretheless all the immersion argument is pointless. Because it's simply not true. That was my point. The 3rd-p-issue is just a side effect of the pvp thing going on. -

I'm pretty certain that the 1st person vs 3rd person discussion is a pvp thing. I do no pvp at all and I dont have anny issues with 3rd person. I just love it all the way. Traveling long distances in 1st person is an incedible pita to me. (Even with turned off head bob.) Edit Would agree. Btw, altering the FOV in 1st person only modes would be no advantage? -
Edit I accidentally posted here, no grave digging intended. But this happens with all the vehicles. Best thing is to park it at least 250m out of town.

To Everyone Complaining About 1.7.7
Ken Bean replied to NovaDose's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
What is so difficult to understand that they have a bug in and that they try to find the right balance? Well, go on on "carebears and crybabies won" but reality is that there will be another update anyway. Do you really think, that the mod as it is now, stays so forever? They call it alpha for a reason. There have been plenty of updates. I didn't hear someone saying "It's final now.". Did you? -
Why do people store gear?
Ken Bean replied to Composite Armour's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Took me a while to get there.^^ Relying on tent just is a waste of time. I now destroyed all my tents on other server and it feels right. -
Why do people store gear?
Ken Bean replied to Composite Armour's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Just took my hatchet and destroyed the tents. The gear in there sadly wasn't that wothy, they almost left nothing, maybe 60 items of middle-low value, I'd guess. I wish I could have destroyed everything before. But some meat, ammo and vehicle parts were still there. I also dropped my M4A1 SD. Now, who ever that was, has to fuc'ing find it himself. Was quite satisfying, should have done it earlier. -
Why do people store gear?
Ken Bean replied to Composite Armour's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Since all of my wide spread tents on a server have been robbed within a day (How did they do it? They are hidden as heck. They must have had a vegetation hack or sth. They took all the precious. Antibiotics, rare guns and ammo and left their shitty SVDs.) I really don't know. Basically it's just like stashing up for other people. Also repairing helicopters is just like doing it for others. All of this gets stolen anyway, so really, storing items has no point. Since I play there's literally nothing I would have kept, but the worthles loot. Have been robbed a thousand times or lost it due to bugs. Everything gets stolen. There are folks which does no other. I'd really appreciate if the Stand Alone would offer an unrobbable, save base. Otherwhise I don't really know any longer why on earth I would search for loot and store it. Considering the new tent placement system, I see no light. It's probably even way easier. I often hear the folks which claims that they don't care about loot. Well, I do. It's what most of the time I'm doing: searching for loot. So of cause I care about it. I wouldn't KoS only because of that, but the majority does. So in fact, almost everyone cares about the loot. Those who are seeking for (and actually play the game as intented, trying to make their way through towns etc hour for hours) and those who are robbing or killing for. I'm at apoint where I'm feed up with. I learned that the survival game doesn't want you to survive. It only wants you trying. There's nothing to win. There's nothing to keep. It's an endless new beginning. And all what you do, at the end of the day, there's a troll is enjoying it. So after all, if you don't have anything, you can't lose it. -
Did I just hear base building? =)
-
I basically like the loot and also think it has been increased with the patch(?). The problem I have is the infection / cure thing, which somehow was/is a bit weird. Thanks though. :)
-
As a side note, contrary to the KoS thing because "I don't want to loose my gear" many player claim that they couldn't care less about their gear. Two things which don't fit very well together, one may figure. ^^ But yes, a charackter development system could help.

Why don't people leave the coast?
Ken Bean replied to victusmortuus's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't know, but I don't see it as disadvantage. The more that stay in Cherno, the better for those who travel north. -
Not sure if this already have been reported but the machete is bugged. - The first time you are taking it directly into your main weapon slot from where you found it, you need to hit G to make it usable. - If I put it into the backpack, it uses 6 slots, as being a secondary weapon. - You can't put it intp your toolbelt directly, it only works indirectly; e.g. if you remove your hatchet from the toolbelt, the machete is added to it.

I think they set the chance to find antibiotics to 0.01 almost everywhere (including hospitals, med spawns in general, etc). To get healed by resting in a tent also should now be at 0.01. However, they decreased the infection rate. Edit Giving tents a chance of 1 percent each 5 minutes to cure infections indeed is close to pointless. Can't imagine that one really counts with that. How about setting the antibiotics spawn chance to 0.03?

It has been said that this is a bug and that finding the correct balance will take some time. Don't say that you expected 1.7.7.1 to be final. ^^
