Thanks for the picture but wrong logic can be proofen wrong otherwise. ;) As long as you can't, the logic and argumentation is what it is: waterproof. So yeah, some have decided talking rubbish. Not sure when it started, but this clearly is nothing new. -

You obviously confuse terms like "harcore" with "realistic". To be "realistic" is an approach a "simulation" tries to be. What this has to do with 1st person and "hardcore" (what do you think that means?) really is your secret. Or other way round: "Call of Duty" is first person right? So do you think this is realistic and hardcore? So please don't get me wrong, but you are obviously talking nonsense. No wonder if we don't get to a solution. This also explains your 1st person fanatics. -

So "hardcore game" for you means 1st person? This dear sir is plain bullshit. -

Benefits roleplaywise. Pease just try to understand that the whole thing of DayZ goes beyond a first person shooter. Really, try it! I know, you dont. Wont probably ever, so ... Why not playing another game dude? Like Sniper Elite or Battlefield or whatever? That's cool, probably no "exploits" with the 3rd person. -

To be honest, I see you made a valid point. Can't really say so because I don't know about how the SA is build. If there are sniper nests all over the place or sth. I wouldn't feel very comfortable if it would be a sniper fest. -

You also can make the distance blury, making it difficult to see sharp in certain situations. -

Well they could disable the 3rd person if is someone is sitting in a heli. I'm not saying "cool" but it would be no too big letdown. -

Yep, absolutely agree. I have the suspicion that they sabotage or handicap the third person in a way that it also loses its legit benefits. And some in this thread are either blind or just don't want to see how mutch 3rd person adds to the game and how much it would lose if you turn it into a shooter. -

Flying around with a helicopter is supposed to provide a better overview. If you turn your head to the side window you can see pretty good. Just give a try at home and move your head close to the window. Mabe got to a higher floor. You can see pretty good, I suppose. At least making you half blind is not really the way to go imho. Doesn't really help any further. I could have used the word "dangerous" insead of "unknown". What then? -

Y Just as you do and allow me to add that you have a strange sense of crap. Bcause 3rd person does not remove "some of the tension". It actually adds to the unknown, like fraggle said btw here: -

And yet you are pointing out that main "issue" or "exploit" for you is that you can't hide behind a wall. Which leads me to the conclusion that because of the 3rd person view there are less saver places. Also there's a chance that someone is hiding behind a wall you can't see. And this points lead you to "it feels saver"? How could this be? There is a bit more danger after all. A kind of danger which already exists: An enemy you can't see. Those can not only be behind walls or on roofs utilizing the 3rd person view. They'd rather could lie everywhere in a bush or a tree. So you can counter it by moving around, being a hard target. I for myself came to the conclusion that the reason behind the empty 1st person server is that the 1st person view is fundamentaly flawed. 1st person is in its nature not able to address all the games needs in its complexity. You keep claiming that 3rd person would be easier and broken or what not. I see the 1st person view way more broken. 3rd person just works dandy. Now to that what you call an exploit: I can't really see how you can improve the 3rd person in a way without actually breaking or handicapping it. Shall we have two broken perspectives? -

If you read tomorrow in the newspaper that the player count on 1st person server increased by nearly infinite percent (from 0 to 1), that was me. I just played two hours. Conclusion: One can get used to, but the movement just unbelievable dorky in closed rooms. Almost died in the barrack with the bank in the door at NW Airfield fighting with the controls and zeds. Plus it lacks a bit fun, feels way more unfree. Besides of the dorkyness in regards of controlls (I surprisingly try to switch to 3rd person in combats quite often and doors seems to be more tricky to open), I came quite a bit around. Found 3 heli crash sites with not so awesome stuff. Was on NW Airfield, looted Vybor, Pustoshka and Stary. Everything by food, is a bit more boring. But I have the feeling that it is not that much more difficult than on 3rd person server. Hardest thing is, that you can lose orientation easier just by looking around a bit fast in certain situations and I somehow didn't really got my controlls (maybe practice will ease that), feels a bit more blind. Finding loot piles at heli crash sites is in dense gras clearly is a pain and can take forever even if you almost know where they are. Don't really see what all the fuss is about. But also didn't have a player encounter. So of cause I cant say if there's something different, even more since I dont focus on pvp anyway. -

So you are not able to populate a server? I tell you what. The 3rd person view is not broken and I have no issues with. But if I were the guy, who set up the server, and if I'd read this thread here, I would feel pranked. So why can't you let me my freedom? How about you fucking off? Seriously dude. As long as you can't populate a server you kind of proof that 1) third person is awesome 2) noone cares 1st person only server 3) this whole discussion with all the insults of folks which likes third person just is a vendetta or sth -

Someone mentioned there would be no 1st person server in europe, there's a nice one. DE 128 IP 80.242.152.220:2322 Played today 10 minutes alone untill two guys jouned the server. I'd suggest if you want to play 1st person, go there, play a bit, wait, be patience. People will join as it is not entirely empty and if you stay there, more people will follow. -

:D I knew you would like it. But this also means a lot of atmosphere for me. Sometimes I move to towns like this. http://1.1.1.1/bmi/www.loaditup.de/files/783915_95a65zks54.jpg It might be not be very sneaky or exploiting anything but feels just cool. Just looked at some screenshots and I'm fighting and moving more in 3rd person than I thought. So you are the camper around Berezino killing me from time to time? -

1st person shooter basically dont need a third person because the player don't do interresting things. Even though some switch into a kill cam because the only interesting thing the character is doing is having a cool finishing move. Most shooter perfectly come along with showing a weapon and the enemy, making weapon sounds, that's the basic story. 3rd person view comes into play as soon as your char does stuff, wears things which have a meaning, short: doing role play. If you remove the 3rd person, you basically turn the game into a 1st person shooter with all its drawbacks. Yes, 1st person shooter are popular, but its not everything DayZ intended to be. qft! -

So lets nail it: You 1st person only guys actually never switch to third person? You always run around in super immersive 1st person mode even through the most boring landscape ever in default plains? You earned a hero or bandit skin and never switched to third person to see how it looks like? You guys never switched to third person after you found a ghillie to see what effect it has? You are completely uninterested how a backpack looks on your char? You found an NVG and never felt the desire to see how that thing looks like as you wear it? You never went prone into a bush and took a look if you are covered? You never drove a car and took a peek how cool you guys are looking? ... never made a fire and switched to 3rd person to see what your char actually is doing? ... never raised your hands to surrender and wanted to know what your char is doing? ... never run around with flares or chemlights in 3rd person? I don't think so. -

This somehow doesn't fit together. People sometimes play the hard guys. It is not unrealistic that on a forum someone defends 1st person view while playing on 3rd person server. You have seen the poll posted here claiming that 60 % or so would favour 1st person. Well obviously this is not the case. Something like this already has been suggested e.g. by SausageKing. Has advantages and disadvantages. Looking around a corner still might work with this angle. -

Maybe the community server thing is the root of all evil. Twisted, isn't it? You can't rely on the community in regards of server infrastructure and taking away all their freedom the same time. A solution for you 1st person only guys would be to set up your own server. Well then, as I understand it right, many things can't be changed in the SA by server admins. Loot tables and aggro level are pretty much core elements of the game and I appreciate if they are fixed in general. But in regards of 1st and 3rd person, you hardliner really need to rethink your position. Calling 3rd person an exploit only is your fixated viewpoint. All that has been said in regards of unfair or whatever is not true. Objectively sth which applies for everyone the same on a server can't be unfair. -

Maybe I just don't get it. But is there a game out there which has that many variations of the core game like DayZ? I sometimes have serious difficulties finding a DayZ version which is vanilla. And I most of the time want to play as vanilla as possible. But there obviously is a big userbase which enjoys custom rules and custom experiences. You could either wash them all away (also meaning losing loads of variety and maybe player types) resulting in remaining only the one version which has been released by the devs. Or build in some small room to customize certain rules. Don't overdo things, even small changes can make a huge difference. Mind, that one of the main motivations for someone to set up a server is to set own rules and to customize certain things. That 3rd person sucks balls is your opinion. Why are there so few server admins who seems to share your opinion? Their opinion is different from yours. Or maybe 1st person player are too lazy, selfish and egomaniacal in general to set up a server and they only demand others to change instead. ;D -

Ken Bean replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
For half a million years, when Battlefield 1942 was not too old, I used to play on an Australian server. Since I'm from Europe, my ping was beyond good and evil but I just plain loved these guys on that server. The admins were great and they sometimes set some rules to make the game more interestingn and spicey. From time to time they wrote in chat sth like "Zookaparty" (they had a word I don't remember) and restarted the map. From that point on your only were allowed to kill each other with bazookas only, which kind of is very tricky since those projectiles are quite slow and you also had a long time frame between triggering the shot and actually shooting. If you used a gun, you were kicked untill you got the rule. It was not per se easier, it was different. On the one hand it was more difficult to hit somebody but in return, you were way harder to hit as well, resulting in very long lives and very long and dense rounds. This somehow reminds me a bit of the situation here, since you had utilities (guns and soldier classes etc) the game by default offered, but were temporary not allowed to use. Similar to that some of you here decided that the 3rd person view is the feature which should not be allowed to use. Difference is, that some don't see it as game rule which could be apllied or not. As long as a rule applies to everyone, no one is in an advantage. And the "first person only" supporter make their mistake right here. They defined their handicap (not to use 3rd p) as the only one appropriated. Therefore they made a bunch of theories to "proof" their opinion that everything beyond 1st person is not the "normal way" to play. That evolution of mankind would demand 1st person view. That 3rd person player would play in "easy mode" and so on. This is not true, this only are justifications. If you take a closer look, these argumentations are not even consistent. You guys say "its harder and easier the same time". In fact it's neither easier nor harder, but different. It's like the Zookaparty a custom rule. The core problem you have is the way to enforce this custom rule is to define it with the server settings and that most server are not configurated being 1st person only. I know, you may don't want to hear it but in fact your way out would be the ability to chose. Devs: Build in a poll function which allows to change that rule on the fly based on what the player want or - the other way round, even way better - build in a function what allows admins to define rules on the fly. Because changeing the server config might be not the most convenient way to handle things. That's why you don't have enough variation in the server situation. They set the decission once and that's it. Player on the other hand do love variety. See that what worked for Battlefield back in those days (that the admin said "now other rules") doesn't work for DayZ. Noone would give a shit what he wrote in chat. So give them the tools to define them on the fly. -

There's no way for me to run once across the map in *totaly immersed 1st person mode only* without getting very annoyed by it. Maybe it's cool in certain situations but brevity is the soul of wit. In the long run, when I try to imagine that it would never be possible to switch into 3rd person again, the game would lose half of its sexyness. -

Maybe because I wouldn't like that. I like the 3rd person view and seeing my char in the world - not the ability to camp the whole day without being seen with a mirror in the hand in 1st person perspective. -

Nope, thats not correct, third person view is third person view. It's built in by purpose and intention. If you guys refuse to use it, it's one and only your problem. Stop calling it an exploit. This is bs.
