    Afraid to go on

Learning how to survive in the wild by hunting and camp fires is a very neat task to do. I'd also recommend to look for gas and a camping cooker. There you can attach a cooking pot and heat some meat. There's loads of stuff to figure out, evem more down the developement road. :-)

What Do You Want to See When you die?

A simple black screen witht the words "you are dead" to me seems just a bit meningless. If death has no value, why should have life? Still, I'd like to see a scene and hear some final words. Not for the sake of realism, but for the atmosphere. If getting the cause of death is too difficult, just keep it general.

What Do You Want to See When you die?

I'd like to see a mixture of death slides showing a painted scenery generally reflecting the cause of death, for example if a survivor is killed by another player using a sniper rifle, one should see a painted dark and scary scenery where a nasty bandit shots down a survivor from afar behind. If you die of suffering, bloodloss, broken legs, zeds knocking you out ... you should see a death screen that shows the situation. This also should give you a hint what happened if you just died right away without hearing any shot - like it happens from time to time if you got shot by a sniper from a huge distance. Peronally I'd like to read or hear a nice (maybe spoken) sentence in the scene (some final words) as well, so yeah, quite similar to the death scenes of Fallout 1 and 2. True classics, adds so much to the atmosphere. Hope this is the right link, I'm on phone. edit, added another video

    Afraid to go on

@MatchboxChick I'd suggest you to go under a tree and drop some gear. Try to keep as less things as possible, only stuff you absolutely need. Then go on some tourist tripps around the map. Watch your back, keep moving, don't focus on gear but surviving. The more you survive the more you might get attached to your character. And I personally think that's the way the game is being played best.

    Very is everyone at?

Has been a while since you played the mod last time, right? The mod atm is pretty hard with patch 1.8.1. And in regards of the stand alone, don't know what your longest survival time is but last time my character got killed it was because of a very lucky zed, who just killed me with one hit while I was prone trying to switch to the hatchet. (Yep, should have worn a helmet, still was kick-ass unexpected). If you become too recless, you'll certainly die.

Yep, would love to see this.

    Snakes - some thoughts

How about adding snakes? They only should be found in woods on sunny places while being slow and very rare in the twilight. A snake can bite a player, but the bit wont kill him, it would just cause a poisoning, with serious side effects, maybe blacking out, vomiting and loosing orientation. Snakes could be hunted and besides of leather a player could collect poison to treat throwing knifes or bolts and arrows with. Zeds could react on poison as well, maybe by getting blind or losing orientation or something like that. It also would be a nice addition to have an abilitity to catch snakes e.g. in a burlap sack (which should be quite a bit dangerous and difficult). A player could collect poison multiple times from snakes that were cought instead of once in case of being dead. What do you think? It could be a way to provide a range of non-leathal weapons. The poisoning effect should not be lethal, but could look like this: The poison is pretty fast, lets say you have between two or five minutes untill you black out for a while. In this two minutes, your vision is slowly is fading, your ability to hear is being reduced, your character starts breathing heavily, is slowing down more and more... ---> it should not be an instant black out. You still should have a limited time to react and to try to get away, to hide a bit or maybe fight. The player should feel a struggle and should have a chance to fall blacked out in a "save place". Maybe Zeds even ignore poisoned player for the time the poisoning is in effect. Edit Sorry for bad English and a very similar suggestion already has been made. His suggestion focuses on deadly poisoning and that's why I suggested this slightely different version.

    Dayz and SteamOS when?

Ahm, sorry for double post, but atm its not necessary nor recommended to use steamos at this stage. However, there's a steam client version for linux and games which actually do support linux can be downloaded and played just like you would do under windows. There even is Big Picture support. I'd suggest Linux Mint with codecs, since it already supports media functionalities without having to know anything in advance (There even is the adobe flash player packed in). It's a live dvd, ready to use and runs completely out of the ram, no install needed (iso image downloading, burning, starting, testing...). However, since it relies on dvd drive, it of cause is quite slow compared to an actual installation. (btw, the terminal command to install steam just is "apt-get install steam", without quotes, you should have root rights and an installed linux - then there it goes.)

    Dayz and SteamOS when?

I'd love to see Linux support. I use Linux Mint Debian myself and it currently is my fafourite client os (is awesome, 100% freedom, not to mention that it is 1000 times more secure than Windows, there are no viruses, say goodbye to malware scanner ^^). So please dear devs, make this happen - and 2014 is the year of the linux distros. B)

Will DayZ become a horror game?

Nightime is the perfect horror time in DayZ. Atm the night gameplay is not really polished yet. So my guess is that it will take a while until we have enough working tools too play with at night.

DayZ moving to new engine - ENFUSION

Well, I looked it up here but maybe that's misleading too? (Could be a troll article) Anyway, Dean spoke of quite a lot engine changes. I think I do like them. =)

DayZ moving to new engine - ENFUSION

Which is absolutely awesome! Great news! Thanks to the Dev-Team and Dean, I absolutely love that move. Happy Bean :beans: :beans: :beans: :beans: :beans: I don't mind to wait longer. However, folks will complain anyway.

    Fleeing birds

Wild animals should flee if there's a player shooting nearby. I think it would greately add to the atmosphere and realism if we would have some birds populating certain trees. They don't need to be visible in dense leafage - but a few could be heard and seen fleeing if a player is breaking the scenery by shooting a gun. This would enhance the impression of a vital environment - which atm seems to be a little bit static, as you can hear birds almost everywhere, but they don't seem to react like they would. Thanks for reading.

    Fleeing birds

I searched and found one topic having included something like this among lots of other suggestions. I'm also not insisting in hunting them, it's just for the atmosphere, because I recently recognised that this is really missing as I played with friends one or twoo weeks ago. So since that other thread had another focus and since his suggestions was more like hunting, I decided to make it an own topic. If that's unacceptable, I apologize. Also having sitting birds >in< the Tree probably is a huge problem programwhise, since those trees use to be full of leafage. I do think it's best to treat them as unvisible, unrendered, but singing entities as long as they don't flee and still populate a tree. So hunting in the form of "shooting a bird sitting in a tree" wouldn't be very practical imho anyway.

    Better Servermanagement

Hi, I'd like to suggest a server management system that can be accessed during a gaming session (while being ingame). If you are ingame and hit "p" you already see some server information regarding player and pings and such. There could be a button added called "Add Server to Favourites". -> This would enable you to add the server you are currently playing on to your favourite server list. If that would not be possible, then please at least add some server information at this particular screen, like the server's name and IP. If sth like this already exists, please point me to. Thanks for reading, KB
  16. Given that he didn't do or say anything what could be called hostile (trying to get away hardly is a hostile action), he was in fact not hostile. I don't know how you make up that thing that he potentially could be a threat and therefore killing him would be justified. If you really think like that, then everyone is guilty because potentially he could ... That's unreasonable and implies a kind of a fear driven arbitrary. In my understanding, he did the only thing what could have let him a chance, in question. The op however clearly showed that he was very hostile and in the moment the cornered tried to escape from his plight, the op pretty much proved that. Well and then, talking to the hand cuffed like "this is all your fault" and punishing for "essential combat logging" also questiones the ops power of judgement in that situation.
  17. @op At the end of the day, you and your team effectively killed a survivor who was not the slightes a threat to you only because he tried to run away. Therefore you trapped, threaten, wounded him and stole all his gear (as punishment for combat logging, what he didn't do). Because of what? I see that in your opening post and over all interactions you try to make a reasonable impression. You even used this phrase quite often in your opening post to underline that, but at the end of the day .... --- Bottom line: You absolutely dominated the scene and abused your power heavily. One peaceful survivor dead, who refused communication and who logged out after he were absolutely blacked out and even hand cuffed while you talked to him, good knows what. Good question is, why anyone should consider you a friendly guy who one could trust? And I really would know why you consider this combat logging. Didn't you won? Is dominating an enemy physically not enough for you? If you had some respect against your enemy, you would have said "Good, wasn't nice from me. You don't want to talk, I respect that.", but no, this is not your bussines. Imho, whatever why he exactly logged out or didn't talk - be it instinct - I bet he was right.
  18. That still would be human after all. It's something one has to take into account if you corner somebody. I know, you probably thought you are in perfect controll. He didn't comply. Maybe it were his instincts to not to give you even more than that? But I don't see what he did wrong. I would have done similar in that situation, since I know that some things in this game are just there because it feeds certain egos. Not giving them what they want sometimes can be healthy. Also what you did, holding someone up and do whatever, is not so unique in this game you may think. You don't know how many of such encounter he already had and how pleasent they were. Maybe he also learned from former experiences. And as said, it's a game, it's based on voluntairiness. That means he would have needed to interact voluntary with you. Obviously he didn't want that. In regards of combat logging, he didn't really do that. There was a combat, he lost.
  19. Open hostilely is one very good reason not to trust someone. At least open hostilely without any real cause is very serious in this regards. Trust is nothing you get donated. One can have a sub, but this immediately is gone as one opens a hostilely. Trust also is a feeling and therefore it gives a sh*t on logic.
  20. I have to say I can understand that he didn't answer. I mean, this is just a game and we play it for fun, right? Sometimes things may twitch the mood a bit too much. One main difference between real life and games is that the latter is played voluntary and can be quit every time without having real disadvantages to fear. Maybe he chose to quit because the fun was over? This is completely legit, under every circumstances.
  21. Yeah, I absolutely believe this. I just think you decide so and sometimes so. The whole situation was just forced by you. Then, maybe you decide to let people life. Fine. Where the heck someone else should know what your mind is being in? Mindreading? Just believing anything you say? But this is academic. Maybe he just went into kitchen, took a coffe while you were persuading him, came back, maybe got a shock because of that crazy voice over his headphones and shot down his PC? ;D Nah, really, I don't know. One guess would be he thought that if an operation like this begins with hostilety, it probabyl doesn't end any good, only gets worse.
  22. Maybe. I don't really know what and why he did sth. But one thing in DayZ is clear: You put your weapon away, get shot. You put your weapon not away, get shot. Well in question, better dying with a weapon in hand. These situations are basically unpredictable. It even starts by holding someone up. For that, you have not been entitled to. You probably think you just can do it, because you have a weapon. Right of the stronger or whatever. In my opinion most actions in the ghame are not based on comprehensibility. They also lack any real purpose.
  23. Well, In real life he probably would have said at least something, but this is DayZ. What happened is you trapped, threaten, shot and handcuffed him for absolutely no apparent reason. This talks fort itself, I wouldn't expect anything reasonable from you. Kind of a mad man like situation. What would you have done? The whole situation was unpredictable for him from the start. He probably just knew he didn't do anything to you. The only ones who could have solved the situation peacefully were you. You controlled the situation. You almost killed your victim. He couldn't have really done anything. Maybe he did exactly right. Now you wonder.
  24. Uhm, whatever your intentions were, they became meaningless due to your hostile operation. I don't really know what you expect. Wasn't looting out his gear not hostile act number 4? Say as punishment for not complying?
