  1. Okay, let me go into this. For you. I have the experience that 1st or 3rd person view can be equaly difficult. The problem is that the 1st person view is flawed in DayZ. If it would be more Battlefield-alike, the 1st person view would be easier than the 3rd person, because Zeds wouldn't be able to be a threat. They'd just die as soon as they pop up. Basically there's not much 1st person shooter skill needed to plain survive. After you found a sea, a tin can, matches, a knife, a hatchet and some medical supplies you can life without risking mutch. I mean it's not a game which focuses on 1st person shooter skills in the very first place. What does statistics tell us? Plain numbers. What a statistic means is a matter of interpretation. Your interpretation seems to be fixed in advance. If 1st person player have a lower chance to survive then maybe because the 1st person view is a bit broken? First let me say that third person shooter can be very tactical. Maybe shooter use to be not very tactical at all compared to simulations or games like chess, but this is not because of the perspective. The 3rd person view actually gives player more room for being tactical all the way. If your tactics only is to observe and wait, then this doesn't mean that this is the only tactic a third person game can have. Not the perspective is relevant for how long you survive, but the tactics. As said in previous posts, "Observe and wait" is a typical 1st person shooter multiplayer tactics which also can bee seen in games like Battlefield, its also known as camping. Camper apparently do so in 1st and 3rd person. Actually I respectful disagree. The playstile is much more variable than playing in 1st or 3rd person. Most people constantly switch the person and their playstile could better categorised in lone wolfes, bandits, heros ... to name the obvious. There are threads which suggest such categories. All of them use to play in 1st and 3rd person, even camper. I actually don't know what to say here. The 3rd person view is something anyone can have, it's not a win button like you suggest. A huuuuge majority is playing on 3rd person enabled servers and the death toll is very high. Those AS50 weren't that easy to find either. Almost every hacker spawned with one, yes, but that's another story.
  2. I see and it would be nice but maybe I misread some posts which were made or there's a constant 3rd person player bashing going on. It's no namecalling I'd point out, just the stile. Here there's an example to illustrate what I mean I'm not offended, I don't take things like this personel, it wasnt pointet at anyone directly and I completely ignore what it may imply or not. It's just a discussion stile like with a 3 years old. How can you discuss with this?
  3. I said "it's like", taking this as an example. And I didn't mean you personel. I tried to describe the situation of the discussion currently which in my opinion fits exactly the coffee / tee problematic. "And coffee is bad they say... Tee way more healthy... " (while drinking coffee) Would be easier if some may practise a bit more what they preach.
  4. The problem I have is not that you say 1st person > 3rd person. It's your opinion and that's fine. The problem I is following: I would just play 1st person if I had that opinion and oppurtunity. It's like favouring tee over coffe. Then you have tee and coffee on the table. Now you are drinking coffee and try to confince everyone else to drink tee. No, not only convince them, you try to ban coffee.
  5. Not only desperate. If you are convinced that 1st person is the shit (which isn't) and if you have to see that almost no one plays on or offers 1st person server, then you probably think you are the only savvy one. ^^ Anyway, we've seen many of their arguments which most of the time are just claims or desturbing wrong wordings, as if they would use every chance to make a point. And they have a lot excuses not to play on 1st person server. They give the 3rd person view all the blame. Even though, 1st person atm just is brocken. It might be another valuable experience, but is not. It's a pain to be bound to 1st person only. The game loses too much depth. The world is too big and nice to play half a blind ant which cant see shit or what the character itself is doing. Really, why should I play such an awesome open world if I'm bound to a tunnel vision? sad tunnel vision |= immersion Not to mention that horses wear blinders for other reason than increasing the immersion level. ;)
  6. 1st person is not more difficult. It's just broken and weird. If you are a bit skilled, you easily can survive 20 hours. But the point is not how long they are surviving, the point is WHY. Why is this the point? Because 1st person player just might be tactical not that keen? Because they permanently lose orientation in buildings? Because they die more often killed by doors and falling from a roof? Because they dont see when they are bleeding? Because their attention span goes downhill after running around 1 hour in super immersive mode? Because 3rd person is not the only game feature they are not able to master? :D This data says not much on the issue. I think the playstile can not so easy categorised in 1st or 3rd person. They are actually not that meaningful as you 1st person dudes may think. ;) It also doesn't say 3rd person player are all fat, btw. Its just one preference under many, no definetive faith or whatnot. You made a big story of it, way too big. And whats, btw, with the data "numbers of 1st person and 3rd person server"? Clearly says "3rd person rocks", doesn't it?
  7. First I gave thumbs up, then I rethought. Although it might be nice to have actual data, most of this stats in this game are inherently meaningless. At least for the player. I don't know what average data says. You have a very wide spread behavior. From running through towns to going prone all the way through woods. There also are power looter and dudes who dont do anything but looking for tents at the borders of the map. Not to forget camper with a backpack full of rabbit meat. And most of the time, all are switching the view. Even those 1st person purists do it, all the time. (A fact which has been figured out in this thread here)
  8. Wrong game dude, play Battlefield. And as said a thousand times, the fight system is fair. Everyone has equal chances. You just dont want to understand, right? If you have a problem then actually name it. It doesnt help if you call a fair fighting system unfair because you cant properly point out your issue otherwise.
  9. I play DayZ when I want to play a survival game. If I want to play player versus player, I play Battlefield. Know why? It actually has way better 1st person combat than DayZ. And the other players also know why we are there. But keep your elitism aside, have a closer look what you just wrote. Did you try to insult me or the game? YOU are wrong here. YOU don't like the game as it is. YOU are the one who shlould have a look for another game. Maybe you are happy then?
  10. I have another idea. Release two DayZ stand alone versions. One we could call "DayZ - the survival game" (which provides 1st and 3rd person) and the other we call "DayZ Deathmatch - most hardcore realistic super immersive hardcore game" (which only provides 1st person). Okay, I admit, was a bit kidding right now.
  11. Yet another invinciple 3rd person exploiter who excessively uses it for pvp. Well I could tell you sth about my current char, but maybe it's pointless. So I'm playing a survival game and I'm quite good in surviving (not in pvp). My char is 91 days old and I played some hours on a 1st person server without dying. (But I died very often almost in these 91 days.) I think I'm totally qualified to say what I like and what not. I consider myself a survival gamer. That's why I chose this game. Thats why I wouldn't join a server with 60 (?) player. You seems to be a 1st person pvp fan. Tell you what? I don't care what you like. There are 1st person server out there. Go play there. Keep your complains and excuses for you. Leave me alone, I'm playing the game how I think I play it. I read a lot of excuses why you can't play on 1st person server. Strange thing is: Joining such a server is totally easy. There always is a friend who prevents folks like you from playing on 1st person server. Now they are litteraly empty. If you ask me, this sounds a bit fishy. "Hey, 1st person is the holy grail. I just don't play on those server. But I glady call you whimp and do everything I can to destroy the gameplay you like." Dude, there are so many 1st person titles out there... Grab one and be happy! @the other post from you: Well that's the marketing information... (Usualy made by people who have no clue for people who have no clue)
  12. I'm certain they buff the zeds somewhat to patch 1.7.7 again. (The version were Zeds basically are on sterioids, faster than you and almost impossible to fight in the open.) Wait, did you play lately?
  13. It's quite an engine which supports both views very good. The main aspect or features of the engine are: open world, simulating, looking natural and also multiplayer. But open world and simulation are the key elements, I'd say. Both views go very well.
  14. Approximately human or very close I suppose. Excuse me but if you have the feeling, 3rd person is comfort, then fine. (might be even luxus?) I for myself have to say that I never chose 3rd person server because I considered it easier. Edit I have the feeling you didn't understand the looting system of the mod or at least confuse sth. But anyway, Zeds slow down the player, of cause. They slow you down in 1st and in 3rd person. They are roaming around anyway.
  15. To the red: Correct me if I'm wrong, but loot spawns in a defined circle around the player. If the player comes near the loot pile, loot spawns. Zeds btw also spawn around the player. To the rest: Good, its not dangerous, then whats the matter with the 3rd person "exploit"? Doesn't it make other player more dangourous? Because they constantly snipe you from invinciple positions?
  16. We get to the point. And you wonder about the kill on sight problematic... -.- But no, I don't really think so. At least it's not the main focus. I didn't (re)read every of the 1205 posts here carefully, maybe the last 300, but I think I'm qualified enough to state my opinion.
  17. Well you need extremely luck to find something usefull. Even more after 1.7. So you feel like your life span is too long and not in danger?
  18. I figure we have a bunch of thirst person shooter fans who deny to be 1st person shooter fans. Should DayZ be a 1st person shooter? What I not get is, why do they not play on 1st person server? Such server are out there. Nuff said?
  19. To the red part. You know that the last situation was that loads of player complained that they got infected? Getting infected usually only happens if you eat raw flesh, drink unboiled water, getting in contact with another survivor who is infected and, last but not least, getting hit by an infective zed. So yeah, Zeds are not "no match", at least currently. Wich is good, but not the 1st or 3rd persons fault. Another doubtful theory. I think the view has no impact on the loot piles. And of cause, you may have a longer life, if you can mange to control your character better in 3rd person. Tats not the 3rd persons fault. Believe it: 1st person is flawed. I tried myself and can confirm 1st person handles very strange. I see. And I somertimes get sth wrong. No problem. :)
  20. You explained your logic well but under bottom line I cant imagine how a first person shooter like view could reduce the KoS problem. Even more since fighting in 1st person is way more accurate. I guess the KoS problem is either caused by the 1st person shooter like nature of the game (attrackts those player) or by some inherit game mechanics, like too rare loot. Maybe its a mixture or other things that add to the problem, like being bored and lack of other tasks to do. The theory that 3rd person causes or motivates / encourages kills on sight I'd call very hazy and not really backed up or grounded.
  21. You also could take me serious. Point is, if you see someone by this "exploit", you don't need to engage. I very often met people which I didn't engage. What I was talking about that a survivor who uses the "exploit" could give away his position. To get a bit what I mean, have a look at this video. Yes, right, he uses the direct communication to play the sounds. So the other survivor cant detect his position. But sth similar could also be possible / managed by the sound engine. Just forget the nature of the sounds he uses. Arma 3 btw has a function which goes very in that direction. A soldier starts to couch while moving, making certain sounds. The key point is that in a certain radius, if the 1st person line of view is blocked and someone gets a line of sight, in 3rd person, the player who gets the 3rd-person-los, will reveal his presence. Which allerts the other player and in the effect will reduce the abusive nature of the "exploit". I really thought in regards of the SA, where eating human flash is confirmed, a cannibal skin could be introduced, with even - maybe based on sanity - soliloquises. Why the heck not? This could be a more elegant solution than just plain removing or sabotaging a key element of the game. In my eyes this is a valid proposal which can be at least discussed. But I'm afraid that most 1st person fanatics wont even dare to try sth else than making 3rd person unplayable.
  22. Meanwhile I found a solution so awesome that it just should satisfy everyone. Instead of breaking the 3rd person, we let it as it is now. But The one who is in 3rd person (Dude A) gives away his position as soon as another player comes close enough (a distance which can be discussed) in the moment, the dude in 3rd person (Dude A) gets a line of sight. Dude B will be warned and gets an Idea of where he is. ... Whoa, awesome! But how he reveals his position? Dud A makes a sound, can be everything from farting loud an noisey to talking rubbish to him self. ... Example: A psycho bandit cannibal (pbc) is hiding in the bush using 3rd person view. A survivor comes near and will be seen by the pbc. Now the pbc starts talking: - There you are! - Come a little closer! - I'll eat your liver! --- People sometimes get issues and start talking to himself without noticing it itself. Btw, we also need a cannibal skin.
  23. I use 1st person sometimes and prefer 3rd person while playing. 1st person is good for sniping, scouting and fighting. Tell me: Why must I be turned?
  24. While I agree with that the 1st person view (and with it the shooter part of the game) is very flawed, I want to add that 3rd person is a base element of the roleplay part of the game which goes beyond those shooter elements. Survival also is roleplaying. Are you a hunter, a scravenger, a bandit and so on? Also if it comes to carmouflage, you absolutely depend on figuring out how something looks like from afar. In real life, if you are a lone survivor, you probably would make or find a Ghillie. To figure out what effect it has, you probably would use some strow to make a human shape, throw the Ghillie over and go some metres away before you lose it and never find it again. This are things you cant realize in the game. So beyond the "seeing and "sensing" your character in the sourounding world, making it believable, helping the role" you depend on 3rd person to solve such simple practical problems, like: are my feet in the bush or not? DayZ also focuses on litteraly 'doing things', like 'doing survival'. Therefore seeing your character 'doing survival things' for me is the key element of playing a survival game.
  25. I'm afraid that some of this "hardcore" gamer are not pleased untill they reached a situation in which they no longer enjoy it. Now removing 3rd person cam is their agenda, since it makes so much sense that threy can't help but using it. Meanwhile 1st person server are empty.
