Why? I enjoy both perspectives. When I'm idleing I like to be in 3rd person. When I need to focus, im going to first. I love switching around perspectives. Gives me more of the game. Hey, at least there is an option to see the game from two perspectives - wich doubles fun. One perspective alone is rather boring and less appealing. I enjoy the free look, I'm even missing it on other games.

The only solution for DayZ: Simulation.
Ken Bean replied to SalamanderAnder (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
@op I like the simulaion idea very much but to me it collides with the current popular play stile which seems just to be killing everything. Leading to that a survivor will have way more to do, maybe repairing a car over days and weeks only to get everything wasted in a blink of the eye of an on sight killer or otherwhise. He will enjoy your stuff, hard work and will take a refreshing and powering bath in your anger. Nope, as much as I like the idea, I'm not going through this, just to enjoy it 5 minutes until it got stolen or damaged otherwhise. Repaired way too much helis only to lose them. You can't hide shit in this game. -
Good news, hope it lasts a bit. I realy would be confused if the 1st person folks again just starts to hang around 3rd person server. (while strangely still considering themselfes uber hardcore pro as they play on 3rd p server, because, well, they wished to be on 1st p servers or sth ^^)Anyway 1st p only to times indeed is fun. Good luck with that.

How to authentically strike the right balance of PvP in DayZ SA.
Ken Bean replied to Zeds_Undead_baby's topic in General Discussion
Voted #2, since #3 wouldn't make a difference and I'd personaly enjoy a sanity system. Give em some paranoia, bad sleep, self talking and a Zed 1000 hunting them through the nights. -
How to authentically strike the right balance of PvP in DayZ SA.
Ken Bean replied to Zeds_Undead_baby's topic in General Discussion
Theres no natural environment with no punishment for your lifestile. ;-) -
Mankind used to work together against the environment since its beginning. I dont see why the existence of Zeds (who just are quivalent to dangerous animals like crocodiles or lions) should be something entirely different. Yes, there are predators in nature, they dont primary hunt themselfes. There is a difference between quality and quantity. Why? Because it definately HAS drawbacks. Thats why a penalty can be justified. It isnt that hard to understand.

So am I right that you overtake every discussion which questiones mindless KoS because you think you and your group are awesome and you feel that everyone should know it?Okay, let me start again. Since this is ought to be a survival game and since KoS in real life has not been proven to be a valuable survival technic (there is no species that hunts itself down for bare enjoyment), some think, because that playstile is overly rewarding, without having drawbacks (which would be realistic, mind there's a reason why people actually can life together) - a penalty for deathmatcher can be justified.
-
Lolz, read Tristran Shandy and learn how life really is.
-
Hey, this is a survival game. It has to be realistic somewhere. A survival where people act like morons, actually meaning that if humanity would be like this in real life it would have been extincted ages ago, contradicts the survival aspect. In other words, if people think they should play it as being a death match, dont call it survival game, just call it death match.
-
Yeah, I've seen the movie The Road but sorry, this is a dystopia (basically about how it should not be, like a filmed nihtmare or horror film), not realism. Don't confuse dystopia with realism or with a desired behavior. I personally am fed with people who mistake a dystopic movie for being realistic. This is a cheap excuse to behave like morons, nothing else.

Ever watched a Zombi movie? Do the survivors try to kill each other on sight or do they try to team up to increase the chances to survive together?Or do they just shoot everyone because they got bored with still being alive? So I think you are on the wrong way here. Folks which sarts a death match because of being bored exactly behave like being in a game and take all the immersion away.
-
Problem is, it is a game and therefore most people bahave like shooting other would be a game. The pvp aspect is not very realistic. Who would start hunting unarmed people with a dmr in real life while having a backpack full of beans, simply because of being bored and because they enjoy it? So to counter that behaviour in my opinion penalties could be justified.

So what's with you? If 3rd person is such a big deal, would you play on fist person server? Well the mod has shown that the 3rd person doesn't stopp the 1st person lover from playing on 3rd person enabled server. --> So it can't be that bad after all. ;-)
-
The last topic for me has proven that you cant really discuss the matter with 1st person lover. In the very first place, they are not willing to accept any point that 3rd person player brought in. Something like "looks more appealing" is not accepted as being any kind of reason why someone would favour 3rd person. And hey, who on earth ever favoured something because it looks better? Cars, jeans, boots, Jackets ... no one cares how things look. Never. Then arguments like "I favour to see my character doing survival things, totally enhances the immersion, since this is a survival game." Just is being loughed at, since like already said, no one ever cares to look at things. This is unrealistic etc pp. There has been lots of arguments, even "Hey, why you 1st person guys are hanging around 3rd person server all day and complaining the same time?". I even tried to convince them to play on 1st person server without any luck. They dont play on 1st p server because ... they are empty... -.- Actually you cant help them. The only way to get the 1st person lover onto 1st person server is to force them. Im having no problem with the 3rd person because as said, looks better, doesnt feel as being trapped or limited, I can watch my character doing survival things ... all that stuff which never was a valid point for anyone on earth since the very beginning. Edit typing one a phone is a pain

Night time In Dayz SA and your thoughts?
Ken Bean replied to BlackDalia's topic in General Discussion
I loved the night time in the mod, the darker the better. It creates a very nice tension if it is pitch black and if there are 2 or 3 other peeps on the server. So you have to use light sources which not only looks beautiful but also puts you at risk. Sometimes I sneaked around a town like Vybor and made it shine by throwing lots of flares around. Then staying in in the shadows. Once we had a group and tried to fuel a Mi almost in the middle of Vybor. It was pitch black and only a few had NVGs. So we used chemlights to mark a trail from the fuel tank to the heli. They run back and forth the trail without seeing anything to the left and right. Two of us which had NVGs and silenced M4s guided the man which were refueling by taking loads of Zeds down. Good times.^^ Im also pretty exited of how the SA will be. Bought it yesterday but can't play it atm, due to not having my gaming rig atm. So I have to wait to next year, almost two way too long days. I also loved to fly at night. Then I sometimes flew over bigger towns like Cherno or Electro, very high of cause. Enjoyed to find a survivor because he/she throw around some flares. Not intending to be a threat, but to scare them a bit and to feel super pro.^^ NVGs are needed though. Flying a heli at night while only having a torch won't work too well, I suppose. -
Where is everyone? NW Airfield not a hotspot anymore?

Imho this is a good sign, cause it probably means they made tge rest of the map considerably more interesting. -
Kill on sight... my group is doing it now
Ken Bean replied to Nariquo (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Well in my opinion we have two main groups of people. Some consider it a survival game with Zeds, for others it is a pvp fest. Well even though, combat logging isnt nice for the pvp folks, disconnecting while faceing a group of ten player hunters with big guns just is completely logical in terms of surviving. Maybe they should stopp advertising it as being a survival game? -
Wouldn't it be possible to remove the damage / kill effect from the nukes? Maybe even giving a server wide health boost? >:-)
-
Why are people so unpatient? Don't we have the Mod to play with the time being? Too much thrill of anticipation? ;-) Looks like Santa Clause is getting into real trouble if he comes with bare hands.
-
Yes, that's correct. I didn't answer this question but the other one you asked earlier, that one I quoted, you know?Am I obligated to answer your questions? Also in a certain order? Well to the other one, maybe they thought you are referring to a debugger in particular? Or did you just mean *all* debugger anyway? (Then ASM might be included, if it is one.) You may try asking more precisely. ;-)

Dean - Sort it out man. Losing your way
Ken Bean replied to Thegoon84's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Dude, there probably work more than 3 people on it and it certainly is not the coding guy who makes the 3d models for items. So why not being thankful that the artist who are not involved with the code just do some more items which enrich the game? What do you expect? That the texture artists have to do coding stuff or sth? Hence, the more items there are to find, the more realistic will be looting. -
Why does Dean always play SA with shit graphics?
Ken Bean replied to scaramoosh's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Then you most likely are turning the volume knob on your monitor or you mistake the ammo count for being fps. -
Why does Dean always play SA with shit graphics?
Ken Bean replied to scaramoosh's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'd bet, it's just because of compression loss of the video. Only watched it on phone, though. -
Because there is no Debugger that magicaly finds and fixes all bugs. Mind, that the source code syntax can be completely legit but there still are bugs in wich happen to be there because of the context. Imagine that a writing program also doesn't correct your wrong statements, contentwise.Writing with the correct grammar and spelling does not mean that a statement is 100% correct by any means. E.g., you are planning to code a program that multiplies Number1 with Number2. So in code you write: ... result = Number1 + Number2; printf("result is: %f",result); ... Yeah result is wrong, + is not *. As easy as it seems to be, but no debugger will ever find such a bug, telling you that he read your mind and that you used the wrong operator. Well, this just was an easy example. Things can be way more complex. If it comes to thousands of lines of code... Well, you get the idea that it's not necessarily done in 30 minutes.

Nope, thats strawberry or sth. Being a modder myself I get aggro if someone says vanilla and then you see the edits. It's like saying Paris Hilton is a virgin.
