Hello fellow survivors, I m behind a firewall and it doesn't let traffic out to everywhere, so I'm having trouble to reach official servers. They are not shown in the server list because ping is not allowed to ping the whole internet and as well as the Ports needed to play Dayz are also not allowed in general. In order to reach them, a list of IP or networks would be required to open the connections. Is there a list of IPs or IP-Ranges of official DayZ-Servers somewhere? Thanks and best regards Ken
-
Solved it by allowing the port range of 10000 - 12000 UDP to the outside world. Was probably an old documentation I was using. Ports 2302 - 2305 UDP and 27016 - 27017UDP were not enough.

Now I get plenty community servers, but stil not a single one of the official.
-
Maybe I didn't describe it correctly. Using the Server browser, I can reach Community Server, they get listed. Presumably not all, but at least some. Screenshot: However at the Official Servers tab I get not a single server listed. It says something like: "The server list could not be retrieved. Please check your internet connection." (Hopefully correctly translated from German) Screenshot: Is there a list, the launcher usually loads but the connection might be not allowed by the firewall? What could be the cause?

Awesome Update, big thanks to the whole team!

Yes, I see, now it's working using proton. I think in November it didn't.

Linux support from client side is the only thing I'm missing. This truly would be amazing.
-
It probably has been asked a trillion times, but will there be Linux-Support for the game (client-site)? I moved from Windows to Linux and the only thing I am missing is running DayZ on it. I wouldn't be sad if you guys implement Linux support in the far future after all versions settled, as long as if it is going to get Linux support. If its solely about Battleye, I've read that they added BattleEye support for proton. ("Valve says supporting the Steam Deck with BattlEye anti-cheat is as easy as an email") Is there some information about linux support? What do you think?

Yep, under the bottom line there seems to be a death counter atm. So no chance to survive, the game is kind of rigged from the start. I for myself stopped playing the time being. I think it wouldn't make any sense to play a survival game like this right now. The Zeds just will get, hit and kill you sooner or later, no way around.

Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)

Thanks, this explains a lot. At the moment I think it's almost impossible to make a long surviving because of that. -

So and despite of the effect being slightly different in rl (at the end of the day the outcome is the same), you think, they still should have no effect in the game? (To be clear, a zed finds you with 100% precision. You're a fan of it?) -

If they lessen the radius a player can hear a shot, don't you think it should have at least the same effect on a zed? I just said, it doesn't feel right how it works now. Or does the infection enhance senses? I'm not very interested in having a realism debate, but if supressors doesn't seem to do anything, why having them? And btw, in reality, it probably highly depends on the weapon. (Means, there are weapons there they actually do lessen noise. Not a pro, but a Makarov might be such one.) -
I think people should relax a bit. The new central loot system, zed movement, AI and stuff are very early implementations. Expect a lot of changes here. Imho they did a really nice job rolling it out on stable. Game runs smooth, Zeds are a bit more dangerous (not perfect though, but didn't expect this), I finally find stuff that I have never seen before, cool. Awesome that they decided to go for DirectX11 and hopefully DirectX 12 support. Sorry for the few WinXP user, but seriously, get an up-to-date pc with a current OS. The ressourses spared are better spent in DirectX 12.

Imo it would better if Zeds couldn't hear silenced weapons. Shooting a Zed with a silenced Makarov and getting banged by 3 Zeds in return just doesn't feel right. -
So, there is a right one? Which would it be?

Maybe we should turn on them rather than playing the game how we like? Maybe we should try to point out how wrong they are? Maybe we should try to "fix" their servers or issues? Nah, just kidding, too boring, there are still other things to care about. :-P

Ah, okay, maybe I misread sth or interpreted to much into it. However I think BI has a long stance in the industries by now and assume that they know what they are doing. From a developers side you sure want to nail a program down but that's not a thing that can be precisely timed in advance. Many things are new lands in almost every new game that wants to be developed. Things may take longer than thought. Basically you have two or three options: Taking that time you need, cutting the feature out or abandon the entire development. This basically is the potential future outcome of every game or software project. (You wont believe how much software goes the abandon road.) http://calleam.com/WTPF/?page_id=1445 So marketing certainly is sth important, but at least well known territory. I cant see how stressing the time topic, how voicing concerns about server population and so on can help development.

No worries. There probably would be at least one server and there's a limit of player you can play with anyway, even right at the moment. So if the server has a limit of 50 player, you wont be able to play with more either way. I also don't really see that coming. And if so, fine, why should I care about the population of servers I don't play on? Don't get me wrong, maybe your concerns are valid and maybe it strangely does something good if you voice them. So everyone now is aware. Does this make development faster? Maybe. (More likely not) Or do you think they shoulkd think about marketing and just call it finished right now? Instead they have some goals set, which they want to reach, in the near or long future. In my eyes thats a good thing. Isn't it? I would be concerned, if they start to abandon their goals because of marketing and getting the game just finished. In case you are not aware, you are just requesting to abandon goals. Just imagine you would need to write an elaborated article which would take two weeks and someone comes and demands the article to be done now and gives you half an hour to accomplish. The article is just halfway done by now --- so what are you doing? Making a quick research? Just writing faster? Hiring 500 writers for quicker typeing? Or maybe just abandon some content?

Well, I used to do this a lot in the mod. There sometimes we even used to fly people around in a heli. We also tried to make sure that everyone has a nvg while playing at night. In the stand alone I use to share almost everything, eg. food, water, ammo, clothes ... also have a look for stuff they could need. I can't carry everything anyway. Simple maths: The better the group is equipped, the better the chances. Therefore of cause you need to trust each other. You wont arm a potential enemy. Also simple logic. But if I play alone, I always get shot first or be the one who does so (did it only 6 or 7 times by now, got killed more often - just because of not having made that decission in advance). The KOS people somehow ruined that whole playing together thing and I wonder if it comes back when we have infected hordes and stuff. Most of the time I try to avoid people, but after I got shot, I try to pay back.
-
As a player I wouldn't make this to my concern. Do I want a decent game or do I care about marketing? Not hart to answer, if you'd asked me. However, I'm certain that a decent game will attract people and financially the game already should be a succsess (despite of not being my concern, still feel happy for them). ;-)
-
I'm quite certain that they still are working on both.
-
Loads of awesome stuff to wait for. If gloves and respirator masks reduce the chance to infect yourself, it would be realistic. Maybe there should even be an area which is somewhat contaminated, could be a high loot location, which gives gas masks a use. Maybe one needs to treat items with disinfectant in order to safely use them? One should be able to identify them though, or one should be quite a bit hard to come by. Otherwhise it could get pretty annoying by time.

I see, works now, thanks a lot. :)

I just was about to ask, because Steam and DayZCommander installed version 1.8.3 an I only found 5 server, two are playable. Is 1.8.3 considered stable and 1.8.4 development branch? Should I update? Cheers ps Played 1.8.3 for a few hours after a long break and very much like it. Nice work!

Written Notes Need a Different Graphic, now more than ever
Ken Bean replied to Bororm's topic in Suggestions
I think calling an empty sheet of paper "empty sheet of paper" and a written note "note" would already do the trick. We probably would need two items in that case. (Down know it the engine provides a function that is able to rename an item because of its state.)
