    Rocket working full-time?

Rocket has really "taken off" since he released this mod. He must feel "over the moon" at the moment.

I am an avid "Total War" gamer. On our forums, we have an After Action Report thread section where we can write novels, diaries, letters and the likes of our exploits from a first or third person perspective, usually in role. I contribute enthusiastically there, but I always adored a writer called "Skantarios" who could weave a majestic tale and evoke such wonder. You, Courier, have enraptured me quite the same. Excellent storytelling.

    Your stupidest death

"Stupid death, stupid death; they're funny 'cos they're true!" Horrible Histories? No? Just me that watches it with the daughter then? Right.

Chernarus is becoming stale. New map?

If we could eventually add/entrench new 'havens' or 'settlements' around the map, as has been proposed by myself and a raft of other members, it would surely breathe life into Chernarus?
  9. So, we all know that team play needs to be more actively encouraged and rewarded in Day Z to combat the increasing banditry within the game. Whilst consequences for banditry would be difficult to justify in a world of desperation and deceit, rewards for group play and active collaboration with fellow players would be inviting and the potential in such a regard is vast. I have some possible suggestions but I would be very intrigued to know what others consider to be effective ways to promote more team play within this wonderful mod. Could gestures of "goodwill" be registered and promoted by a point system that rewards players with larger pack inventories or better equipment? Could collaboration with strangers be rewarded by a rank system? Call it collaboration or even leadership. The higher your rank, you eventually earn equipment that allows you to entrench and even construct a team base of operations. Maybe items in trading posts would be discounted as a gesture of trust and promotion of collaboration within the wider world. Could "heroes" be actively celebrated in the community by medals or the attachment if a moniker to players who specialise in some aspect of the game? I do not wish this to be a thread that encourages punishments for bandits - this is about rewarding team play and collaboration. Bandits will remain and are essential to gameplay. But so is this. I am only making suggestions also. There will be holes to pick in my suggestions as there will in the comments of others. Can we keep our comments civil, constructive an continually working towards a real solution to this? I wish to be a valued and progressive contributor to this community and I only hope this thread engenders that. Over to you.

  12. Fantastically simple and effective guide. Did me proud. http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=3&ved=0CFQQtwIwAg&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DVRklY-sYRwI&ei=mkXWT4TaDYTF0QX3gqywBA&usg=AFQjCNG-0LLU9myd89QggX74SlDk0W_Oag
  13. What if players chose designated roles before spawning? Or were given roles? A player might be a medically trained character who can surgeries/bandaging much faster. Another player might be an engineer and be skilled in weapon modification or mechanics. Another player might be a pathfinder and be equipped with greater visibility or binoculars. It would behoove players to assemble a squad that would complement their skills and thus extend their facets and chances of survival. Just like the real world, individuals would bring something unique to a group. Again, it's a suggestion. I know not everybody seems a fan. I don't want a CoD on our hands either, but I believe we need some balance here. No facet or style should be preferable or possess greater emphasis than another; but we need equilibrium. Mr Two, far more eloquently, made my point as I was typing it. Agree wholeheartedly.
  14. Who mentioned superpowers? I suggested reputation degrees. Which is prevalent in our world now.
  15. Phenomenal suggestions vanilladragon - you really have given this much more thought than myself. I have little knowledge of how these processes could be implemented as I am not a programmer, but I do want to keep this experience as organic and realistic as possible. The suggestions thus far could well be implemented with some subtle changes in order to maintain that equilibrium. Very impressed and hopeful.
  16. The survivalist in you just cannabilised to thrive. It's Day Z all over!
  17. Had ARMA2 for two years so overjoyed by DayZ expansion.
  18. The potential is phenomenal. The sheer scope is vast here. I am truly excited by this and wish to be a positive and active contributor in any way I can.
  19. Entrenching and protecting a town would be beautiful... Really excited by that!
  20. There are core princiPals that can be maintained and the ones you mentioned above are simply frivolous and intended to provoke a reaction. You know that would inhibit, grossly, the playability of a game. The suggestions I have made would not.
  21. Indeed I agree and hope that our optimism is well invested. The beauty of this game, the sheer excitement it invokes, is a result of it being so thoroughly entrenched in the community. We can take very, very little credit for it's conception and design, but the more time we invest in it, we feel very protective and loyal to the process. That, in no way, should engender an opposition to creativity or change - quite the opposite. But we should also be careful to maintain the core principals that attracted us to this game in the first place. I believe this is much more than a game. It has the potential to be a phenomena.
  22. Like it or not, the crux of this games appeal has been its penchant for realism and survival. I wouldn't dress as a terrorist just because I had shot someone in self defence. I would be able to shout 8 miles away to my buddy in the city.
  23. I'd happily pay for a standalone game if, without exception, it maintained its community based roots and survivalist ethos. I don't want a game to have to lose its soul in order to appeal to the masses. The masses are often catered for all to eagerly these days.

  25. New to Day Z..bout a weeks worth of gaming thus far. Looking for a clan that will be tight-knit, committed and the like. I'm an easy going but consistent player who will log in most evenings/nights (especially weekends) as I work as a University Lecturer on Reformation - Regency History during the day. I enjoy a few laughs and hope that any members I meet up with are easy going but enthusiastic about this mod. My Steam account is: esaciar So add me if you want to join up... Cheers.
