All servers are 'official' servers in that they must use the rules laid out by DayZ team. There are currently no private servers.

People cant be bothered with social engineering these days, they want everything they can get and they want it yesterday, putting a bullet through your head is the quickest and easiest way to achieve this. It sucks and isn't the way a lot of people play but it does seem to be the norm these days :-(

Session lost usually means your connection to the server has been lost, either from your end or the servers, cant help on the other question unless its the debug plains

Everyone currently spawns on the East coast of the map so you are very likely to come across other people in those towns. Head inland and you stand less chance of running in to people (I dont think they've changed the east coast spawns recently)

In your interface settings, play around with the options in there

ahhh, I guess I had missed it then, didn't realise that.

can't say i've noticed any differences myself, but then it's usually 420 when i'm playing so I may not notice differences like that

do you have speakers connected to the pc as well as your headset, and are the game sounds coming out of your speakers instead?

don't get attached to gear, the game is in alpha, resets can happen.

Books have to be put into your hand, then readied (spacebar) be warned, the book of job has been linked to character wipes

the only time your character data isn't saved is if you switch to a hardcore server. Hardcore and normal servers operate from different databases so you can have a regular character and a hardcore character.

I dont know for definite but I would guess deleting your dayz.cfg file would do it?

As for people shooting first, there currently isn't a whole lot you can do once geared up except for shoot people

Currently, loot doesn't respawn unless the server is restarted so it has probably already been looted :-) Welcome to Chernarus! Be careful out there
